We just for our R1+ and the thermistor wire broke almost immediately. We just got the warranty replacement, but we want to avoid the same thing happening again.

When we try to print, the wires from the hot end hang low enough that they scrape across the top of the print repeatedly the entire time. Is there a good way to secure the wires up so they don't hang as low?

You could use a wire tie or a twist tie. On Thingiverse, there are several different parts that you could print to keep the wires on the side of the carriage assembly.

Sorry, I didn't see this. We just made sure to tuck the thermistor wire out of the way.
