About 8 hours into a print with PLA, my Y-axis motor began to make a stripping noise and began moving in random direction (switching between +y and-Y at random). I removed the magnetic plate and did not see any debris, and the belt is tight. When powered off, the y axis moves smoothly.

    Video of issue:

Is this an indication of a Y axis motor problem? Do I need a replacement, or is there a fix?

    Thank you,
    Matt

Check to see if the drive cog is loose on the motor shaft.

Your Y belt looks a little loose, but that may not be the ultimate problem. That would more likely be a weak stepper driver.

Sounds liek a little bit of both, weak stepper driver and I'd for sure tighten up that belt. (should not shake like that)

The issue was a single loose wire in one of the 4-wire connectors from the Y-axis motor to the main board. For now I've re-seated that wire and it works again. THANK YOU to the Robo3D team for healing out with the issue.

I will take a look at tightening the belt in the future. For now I'm looking into finding the best 4-wire replacement cable.
