I am having z axis problems on my Robo R1 Printer. As the nozzle moves about, it periodically hits the print. I have had my printer for over a year now, and I have never seen any problem like this. I am using Simplify3d. Occasionally, the print head lifts up, supporting all of its weight on the part that is being printed, and then, after that layer is done printing, the problem goes away. I am printing with PLA, and I have an AeroTitan extruder/hotend mounted.
If you have any input on this, please let me know.

well, either the print head is moving up less than the slicer expects or the printed material is sticking up further than the slicer expects.
The former could be a bad stepper driver for the Z (there is only one of these for the R1, the R1+ has two).
The latter ... not sure :) Really bad filament maybe...

Is there a way to calibrate the z step distance like there is a way to calibrate the extrusion steps/mm

Yes, it is in the firmware as Z steps, but it is determined by the hardware mechanics so it is correct unless you change the leadscrews or stepper motors to different ones/threads.

Ok, could this be a flow rate issue, I just got done "calibrating" my flow rates, and then I started having this issue. And are stepper drivers something that just stop functioning properly without any real reason?
