    Hi Everyone,

If you have windows 8.1 you probably noticed that your computer will not connect to your printer and the driver will not install.

This is because windows 8.1 and the arduino driver do not get along. This is easy to fix. It's a simple setting change in windows.

Watch this quick youtube video to make the change to windows.

Now just re-install the software and you should be able to connect, no problem.

If you still cannot connect please try this setup:

LOL Why in the world driver signing would be in recovery ?
Microsoft needs Bill Gates back in the game. Things don't make sense no more once he left.

Always been a Windows user. But seeing the issues with Win 8, I think Mac is a better choice.

At least window 7 works still.

It does. No way i switch to 8. I bought $1300 laptop. 1st thing i did was go back to win7 x64 :)
Boot time of Win8 was much much faster but only because most of stuff continues to load after you logged in, so your computer is useless unless everything is loaded anyway. Why calling it faster boot time if not everything has yet loaded.

To be honest after using Windows 8 and 8.1 combined for over a year now on all my machines all you need to do to make them work perfectly is put the start menu back on the desktop (classic shell is free and does this perfectly). There is nothing wrong with 8 apart from the touch UI on a non touch machine isn't a little counter intuitive the easy answer there is don't use it you have the choice.

As for installing drivers in Windows 8/8.1 disabling driver signing is very easy to do (and being under troubleshooting makes perfect sense to me as it's not a normal user function). Just hold shift and click restart and you reboot into the recovery options choose troubleshooting > Advanced > start-up and then 7 to disable the driver signing. I have done this with my quadcopter and my telescope which won't work at all on a Mac. People have taken an instant dislike to Windows 8 because of the new UI (to be honest I did) but 30 seconds tweaking and you have a rock solid more secure more stable version of Windows than you have ever had that looks and works JUST LIKE Windows 7 if you want it too.

My Windows 8 machines are on the desktop within 14-15 seconds and that's includes my I3 $600 laptop (mind the SSD I put it in probably helps $100). But that being said once the desktop is up I click on IE and I'm online in 20 seconds from pressing the on button no waiting for anything to load. Not only that but Windows 8 runs programs as fast if not faster than any older version of Windows.

Microsoft misjudged the launch they should of made the start menu available from the get go and they should of made their RT devices with Intel Atoms not ARM CPU's other than that they were trying to move in the right direction.

I already had the Arduino IDE installed and if you ever want to update your printer you will need this anyway so it makes sense to install it from the start. Download 1.0.5 (or the 1.5 beta) from www.arduino.cc and disable your driver signing before running the installer.

    Regards

It doesnt matter how fast you can go online, i can be there in half the time you have. I am pretty sure MS were considering this obvious test, thus making its components to be loaded among the 1st once.
Problem is when you have other services and start up programs. They load the last and by that you can tell how long does windows 8 really take to boot.

Going online was just an example I can run anything instantly when the desktop comes up my PC's have both never worked as fast as they do now. As for things taking a long time to load up both my machines are pretty clean I don't load them up on junk and I've never seen any machine from off boot faster especially not a Mac (considering they're the same inside as any other PC) and I deal with a lot of machines and servers. A solid state hard drive in a pc is insane the same as any other machine and my gaming desktop has a 512GB Samsung 840 pro (which was the fastest drive available when I got it connected to a 6GB Sata port) in it so I'd love to see what you have that twice as fast. Apple don't make a Mac that's as fast as my Windows 8 gaming desktop in any way I have access to the whole range and there's not one that's even close. You might be able to start faster if your machine is hibernating and I'm sure I could match it.

Windows 8 was DOA and will go the way of Vista.
Windows 7 is the most stable of the Win OS's thus far.
I get blazing fast boots as well, but I use Linux/Unix OS's for my personal machines. ;)

Indeed all the OS's have pros and cons I use a lot of different devices and in particular my telescope which is Windows only and Battlefield 4 ofc :D I was merely pointing out that most of the hate against Windows 8 is completely unfounded it is incredibly stable as good if not better than Windows 7. The backlash was people not liking the new UI and I was one of them I have to say. But putting the start menu back on will remedy that.

Windows 7 is Windows Vista 92% the same code base MS just tweaked the UI and re-launched and changed the name to distance themselves from the bad press they sold everyone the same OS and don't be fooled Windows 9 will be Windows 8.2 which is Windows 8.1 with the start menu back for non-touch enabled devices re-badged for exactly the same reason. Whether they call it 8.2 or 9 is yet to be determined but I would expect it will be called 9.

I have also been using Ubuntu since v6 but it just doesn't let me do everything I need to do Telescope/Games/Quadcopter.

Most non computer enthusiasts like Windows 8 it the techie enthusiasts which seem to have the most resistance and all of the changes are easily circumvented should you want to.

    Regards

My mac doesn't boot insanely fast but as soon as I open the lid it's ready to use. I have a gaming desktop runnin win 7 that's a beast of a machine, and even that takes a few seconds to wake up from sleep.

Well, there are a lot more issues with Win 8 besides the UI but I will not get into a full on discussion other than to say that it wasn't the techies that killed it. It's the fact that it's not viable for businesses (which is where M$ makes it's bread and butter) and leave it at that.

    <NEW ISSUE ?>
I use ROBO3D 1st model and I could use it with Win7 there's no problem.
You know time to print is very long, so I purchased brand new note PC (Win8.1) and set them in another room.
I could resolve upper connection issue with
    http://reprap.org/wiki/File:RRD_RUMBA_TAURINO_DriverSetup.zip
Now I can connect to ROBO and move the head to X-Y-Z, preheat head/bed too.

The issue is " I can not print material itself".
After push "Start" button, Matter Control stops the printing just after preparing printing.
It's difficult read characters on M.Control but it seems calculating slice/mesh/etc.. and waiting heat up head/bed.
.... then return to Start mode. The software doesn't start printing !
    - The printing data is from default library.
    - ROBO3D F/W ver is R1 V5(latest).
    - M.Controll Version is 1.1.

    I hope someone's comment.

Hi Yuji, if you have the first printer version you need to select one of the beta options as your printer model. You will then also have to update your firmware. It sounds like you have chosen the incorrect model for the printer and then chose to update your firmware which installed the wrong firmware onto your machine.

    Hi, Jerry. Unfortunately, I couldn't.
    1) I saw here B.9.
    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fryBbKG8rpOCfsWk3UbcJzHEItqHU0iFY7uVRF3sFx0/edit
    written "latest F/W is A.3."
    2) A.3. link is here
    http://forums.robo3dprinter.com/index.php?threads/marlin-firmware-update-2-6-14.1725/
    I got "Marlin_2_4_14.zip" and unzip.
    3) I've never used Arduino, next I saw here melody bliss's post below and do the same way
    http://forums.robo3dprinter.com/index.php?threads/cant-find-home.1434/#post-9865
    4) On Win7, I could burn the F/W to ROBO but now unable to connect with M.Control and written firmware update massege without update button not same as before (2days ago, I updated F/W with this button).
*In the device manager, Win7 knows Arduino mega 2560 as COM port.

    So now, I can't use Win7/8 both :(

    help me

Hi, Mike.Thank you for the answer.
I didn't know new model "R1". I purchased ROBO from Kickstarter. So very eary model.
    Now I recovered "Marlin_2_4_14" on Win7. I don't try win8 yet.
In anyway, my ROBO does not seem R1. Shall I try AUTO_Level_6_10 ?
