So I have been trying to print a 3dlabprint airplane wing this weekend. I have two instances where I set it to run overnight and when I check in the morning the printer ran all night and stopped extruding partway or almost at the end of the print. It appears the filament is getting stuck somewhere some how and it gets ground down so it does not extrude.

So I looked at S3D quality guide ---

    1. Aggressive Retraction Settings - Mine for this print is set to 30mm/s

    2. Increase Extruder Temp - I was printing at 228c which has been just fine for all of my other prints.

    3. Printing too fast - My print is set at 60mm/s

So I think I can slow my print speed down as a last resort but its always happening at roughly the high end of the Z. I have a filament filter on top of the hood that snaps into place but it does not move. so I am wondering if the Z is really high then the stress on the filament as the outer most parts of X then maybe that is causing the issue...

Just curious to know if this is a common issue and perhaps I should not be using this style of filament filter.

I should also ask... what is the best way to clean/clear the teeth on the extruder shaft after a filament grind out ?

1st thing we need to know is what type of filament?

I use a small wire brush to clean the hobbed bolt when needed

No sooner after I started this post I restarted the print and it didn't get past like layer 8 and the same thing happened.

Maybe its too brittle... not sure.. the humidity is about 37% and the roll has been out all week.

    EVOO?
    Is that vegetable oil?

I have some truly wet PLA (brittle as heck) that still prints acceptably (not pretty to look at, but structurally fine).

so maybe I am trying to print too hot... this stuff is rated to 220 as I understand. the wing parts that print only have one layer so the layer adhesion is very important... I thought by getting to the higher end it would help but seems maybe its counter productive...give the filament issues I am having.

I was going to comment on that temperature, but decided to leave it be :)
We never print PLA anywhere near that hot. Go for thicker layers and a larger nozzle if you are seeing it be a little too weak.

    PLA 210 extruder 50 bed

I'm having a similar problem. Yesterday I changed the wire to the hotend because it had broken at the connector. Hotend worked fine and i did a 13 hour print last night.

Today I started another print and it ran fine unto it got a couple if hours into it and filament stopped coming out. So took the hotend put several 6 inch filament coated with vegetable oil manually through it. Got good stream and began again with a nine hour print. Good adhesion and great layers but stopped again about 2 hours in.

I am wondering if this could be fan related. The extruder fan (1 on side of stock R1) isn't working ask the time but does work because I can disconnect and connect and it starts spinning. Unsure of print fan

    Thanks for the help.

If the fan attached to the side of the extruder stops or does not move enough air your hotend will clog and jam due to heat creep

The parts fan (blows on the parts you print) does not impact the extruder working.

So the extruder fan should always be on? It does work and works mostly through the print. Does it mean I possibly have a short in the wire? Or can I adjust setting for it to rin (MC)??

The fan that is on the side of the extruder must always be on. There is no setting for that one. If it is not working then it need to be replaced.

The parts fan may or may not run the slicer handles that
