Hello I am new to the 3d printing world and I have a question. Can I leave the pla material in the machine
or do I have to remove it when I am finished printing? forgive my ignorance.

You can leave it in for as long as you'd like. No need to remove it after a print. It will harden up in the extruded once it's cool, then melt again once you hear it up.

As long as you don't leave the extruder at temperature for long periods of time without flow it's fine
