Solved Strange behavior halfway through prints

I've been working with my printer for a few days now and I've gotten a few decent prints, but recently the printer will stop, extrude while moving up the Z axis, move off the print, extrude about 3mm of filament on the bed, move back to the print, move back off the print, repeat extrusion, then carry on its way. It prints fine until this point, but usually this is where a print gets sloppy or the filament actually breaks off during the print. Is this normal behavior?

I'm using Cura with a beta version of the printer.

 

I figured out what was going wrong, turns out there were some default plugins active that forced the program to pause at 5mm height.
