Would PLA work as an extruder material (Greg's)?

I naively reduced the structural integrity of my hotend/extruder connection while printing XT-CF20 CF stuff

Currently printing a replacement with PLA, I'm wondering whether it would melt from the small amount of heat that builds up on the cooler

Side-question: Is it possible to strengthen the existing 2 screwed connection somehow?

 

PLA is fine for the extruder. I even print carriages in PLA and have had 0 issues.
