Has anyone tried to add the Precision Piezo sensor to an R1 or R1+? Was thinking that would be a whole log easier to probe for mesh leveling.

Read up some more on it, and very intrigued; especially combined with UBL in 1.1.8. I ordered it today, so hopefully will have it in a couple of weeks and get get it installed and tested. More to come...

Did you end up just ordering the full kit?

Yes, I went ahead and ordered this one. I had trouble completing the order at first, as it said things were out of stock. I emailed them yesterday, and they answered within 10 minutes and got it straightened out.

Any updates on the trial? Not sure how fast their shipping ended up being.

Funny, I was just prepping an update... The shipping time wasn't too bad. I've been working on it, although a bit slowly due to work commitments.

The kit provided is pretty good, although the wiring wasn't long enough to go from carriage to board, so I solder in additional wire. It does require a long M3 and a micro torch to heat up and seat the M3 brass inserts. I found a M3x50mm at Ace hardware to use for mine.

    Here's a few teasers:

Looking good. Do you think it would still work with the stock hotend setup?

The R1's mount for hexagon hotend with part fan will definitely need a different adapter. I took off the part fan and mount when I originally switched to the E3D V6. I will take a look at that and see, but where there's a will...

I had it all together and struggled a bit, but the folks that sell this helped me realize the polarity was reversed, so a quick switch and it was fixed. Now it probes quite nicely. Just need to get my z-offset set and I should be good to go.

Here's a video of testing with bad vs. good polarity

How have your numbers been comparing the probing with and without? Looks like it isn't even making contact with the bed so is it that precise?

    Here's my latest bed map:

    Bed Topography Report for CSV:
    -0.300,-0.277,-0.244,-0.202,-0.182,-0.137,-0.207
    -0.393,-0.382,-0.372,-0.335,-0.308,-0.340,-0.455
    -0.469,-0.449,-0.431,-0.390,-0.391,-0.475,-0.623
    -0.499,-0.470,-0.473,-0.467,-0.465,-0.498,-0.635
    -0.435,-0.412,-0.390,-0.399,-0.442,-0.445,-0.595
    -0.331,-0.320,-0.310,-0.315,-0.315,-0.316,-0.474
    -0.125,-0.145,-0.127,-0.126,-0.109,-0.090,-0.220

You can just barely hear it as it makes contact. I have PEI, so you'd probably hear it a little better touching bare glass. It's quite sensitive.

How has repeatability been? I know whenever I tried to use UBL the numbers would wildly change every single time even if doing it consecutively.

Two probes simultaneous gives this deviation:

Just thought I'd add that my new z-offset with the piezo is 0.04. :)
