I love mattercontrol and my Robo3. It has been 1 year of non stop printing. Recently I have been having issues with the prints. It seem the problem is in Z axis. Print starts good and somewhere after 20 min into the print I start to lose steps. Basically the print comes out shorter in size and clearly missing some parts of the print. I have cleaned and lubricated the shafts, changed the print speeds, changed .stl file, and still got the same problem, did a full un-install software and re-install and the problem persisted. As a last resort I decided to change the software to CURA... and the problem went away... I prefer mattercontrol ability to preheat the machine.... Is there a way to do this in CURA? What could be wrong with mattercontrol? Is this a common issue?

Update on the issue. Currently I am having the same trouble with CURA. I think the problem may be hardware related.

And you can confirm it does it with both cura and matter control?

If so id think the stepper driver is failing or out of adjustment

Yes it does it both on Cura and Matter Control. Actually now it starting to make a clunky sound coming from the stepper motor.

When you refer to the stepper driver are you talking about the motor or something else?

Stepper driver is on the ramps board.

As @mark tomlinson mentioned above have you done any firmware updates or work ?

The steppers can make odd noise if:

    -the stepper driver is mis-set
    -the stepper motor is dying

    :)

Make sure the firmware is right since those steppers are often just noisy anyway.

Ok I was not able to communicate with the Arduino Mega 2560this to see the current settings. So opted to upload a new firmware to the arduino with these values {80,80,2560,723.38} for DEFAULT_AXIS_STEPS_PER_UNIT I ran a print and I am still having issues.

You do have the r1 woth couplers ?

That would lead me to believe the driver. One driver drives both steppers on the r1.

Yes they have the aluminum couplers.

So you think it has to do with the ARDUINO + RAMPS SHEILD 1.4 FULL ELECTRONICS CONTROL BOARD?

Ok I am guessing that they can be replaced. Where could I get such a replacement?
