Anyone know the specs for the fan with the hexagon hot-end?

    I know it's a 25mm x 10mm, but what about voltage, CFM, and noise?

There aren't a lot of choices in 25 mm fans, but it is 12v. Almost all Chinese fans of this size will have similar CFM ratings and noise levels. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of alternatives on the low noise end, and you would have to go thicker and louder for more CFM.

    I found the specs...

    It's a "snowfan yy2510h12s"... 12 volt, 25mm x 10mm, 0.10A, 1.08W, 12000RPM, 2.38CFM, 26dB-A

That's what I'm thinking about... replacing it with something the same size (so no mods) but a little less jet-engine like.

As waldo said al of those fans will be loud the only real way to have a quiet fan would be at least a 40mm fan. Noctua as an amazing one (a bit pricy tho)

So the common belief seems to be true... there don't seem to be any non-annoying 25mm fans. I purchased a couple cheap but promising fans off EBay & it didn't work out. The output was no where near what they claimed in CFM and another one had a short from day one.

That said, I have reduced the noise a lot without a lot of work.

I printed out WheresWaldo's dual fan adapter (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:871343) and then bought/attached this fan (http://www.evercoolusa.com/?p=607). I had to adapt the fan to a 2-wire version and the dual-fan adapter pushes the rubber cover on the hot-end down 1-2mm (but not enough to cause problems). The noise is much more tolerable now.

Small DC fans that are non-annoying are tough to find.
I just did a project where I needed a 20mmx20mmx10mm 5vdc and the ones I could get were just annoying (the whine...ugh).
Amazing that such a small fan had such a big sound footprint.

I am still looking around various suppliers for better ones, but at that size the sources are limited.

If anyone is still interested, I just printed the 30mm hex adapter and then took a 30 to 40mm adapter and reduced the z height to 5mm when I printed it. This was glued to the front of the HEX adapter and a spare bottom 40mm fan is installed. The bottom is only 9mm lower than the 25mm fan. the cfm went up from 2.38 to 6.2. Noise level is minimal as far as I am concerned. Also, if any one is interested, I made a 60mm adapter to partially suspend a fan through the bottom of the case below the ramps. Email me direct at john@huggins1.com and I will send you the stl .

@John Huggins Why not just post it on that evil website Thingiverse? As much as we might love/hate Makerbot, that is one thing they did add to the community that is helpful. Be sure to post at least one version of the 3D source file so someone else might be able to modify it depending on their specific needs.

You can add your Thing to the group RoBo 3D to make it easier to find.
