Hi, my printer had a clog after printing too close for too long. I tried unclogging it with guitar string, but was unable to since the clog went all the way up into the heatsink, where the plastic is no longer melted. I tried one suggestion of using a heatgun on the heatsink to melt the plastic and try to push it out, but no matter how many times I do this and feed a wire/string through, it never gets all the plastic out. I also tried feeding a thicker guitar string through the top end of it to push the filament towards the extruder end, but since it's not as thick as the opening is, there will still be a tiny amount of plastic left lining the inner walls. I found this out after letting it cool, and only having the extruder head heating, and then trying to feed filament through the top (it barely went in far). Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to get all the plastic out?

I usually end up taking the hotend apart and off, taking the nozzle and heatblock off. and getting my welding gloves on and nailing it with a blowtorch lol :) then jamming a wire through.

The is certainly heat creep since the melted plastic should not be above the heat break. Your extruder fan might not be working correctly either, but certainly printing too close will potentially cause that as well.

Soak it in acetone for several days after getting as much as you can out. You can then take a compressor and blow into one end - with the nozzle off of course - and it will get most of it out. Also, you can heat it and use a 1/16" allen wrench to get almost all of the plastic out. It is very close to a perfect fit. I've done this a few times.

I'm with @KTMDirtFace . Take the nozzle off, small butane torch to burn out the filament, put back togather (final torque of the nozzle when hot, then season the hotend and check your cold end fan as @mark tomlinson said.

    Works perfect every time.

Got it unclogged! What do you mean by "season" the hotend?
