Anyone want to take a shot? When extruding, my main gear or motor, not sure which, is making a buzzing/grinding noise. This causes the gears to reverse direction. it goes back and forth between extrude and retract. it wont just extrude. everything looks straight and I can spin by hand without binding. is the motor shot? is the main gear shot? what gives?

Can you extrude by hand by turning the gear? ( when its hot )

I sure can. I've cleared it thinking it was a jam. I feel no tension when turning by hand either

Sounds like perhaps the stepper driver is going bad for the extruder stepper.
Cheap part so not a big deal to swap and test. Under warranty I would still get them to sort it. of course.

If it isn't the stepper driver then it is the stepper motor itself most likely

Mark is on the right track . Also check the wiring While refurbishing printers for ROBO3D I have found a few with this same issue that were loose wires at the connectors. Pull on the wires and make sure the ends are crimped on tight as well as making sure they are attached to the motor on the extruded and the ramps board

If the motor is bad, can I use the old z lift motors I replaced for the upgraded rods?

yes but you may need to lengthen the wires. All the motors are interchangeable.

Yes, all of the motors in the Robo are interchangeable.

I had a similar issue with mine, and found out that the z-step value within the EEPROM was set too high. If the motor swap doesn't fix it, you might check the EEPROM settings.
