I recently got my Robo mid december but I didn't really have time to play with it till lately. I have been printing with abs and have got it to work semi-reliably. Lately I have had some issues with the print bed, to my knowledge the printing bed was heating up reliably but now for some reason it seems to stop. If I turn of the printer and give it a few minutes I can start it up again but then it will stop, cool, and stay off, usually mid print. I am only able to get the bed to start if I switch the printer off then on and once the bed hits its target temp it stops and cools again. This isn’t very helpful for working with ABS… Has anybody run into this issue before? How did you fix it?

P.S. this is my first 3d printer.

Hi. This is a actually a common problem due to the Ramps board not getting proper ventilation. There's a few solutions to it but by far the simplest is to have a fan blowing on the ramps board keeping the board cool.

If you'd like a more in depth solution I can help on that as well. Just depends on your level of confidence in working on this kind of stuff. Most people go with the fan because it works well, is low cost, and it's easy to do.

I went with the fan while I waited for my fuses to come in and it worked fine, the only problem is finding a fan and mount that will fit under the robo.

Strange this wasn't a problem before... Wonder what I did.

Alright then all I have to do is find a way to keep the ramps board cool. I have little experience dealing with things like this at the moment though I am willing to learn.

    What other solutions are there?

Dr. D, you can also either added a solid state relay or replace the polyfuses.

Take a look at section C.1. of the Robo 3D User's FAQ at http://melodybliss.org/robo3d/

Im also having bed heating issues so i went to the links of melody bliss posted. So my ? is i can fix this just by using a solid state relay or do i have to add a fan to keep poly fuses or replace them with higher rated ones plus a fan?

They're now giving out fan's and brackets if you're having heating issues.

A solid state relay will solve the problem without a fan.

A higher rated fuse wi work without a fan.

I suspect a fan will work as long as you have adequate air flow under your machine.

So, any of the three solutions should work. I did the relay before the fuse problem was identified and I've had no problems.

    Good luck!

I did the SSR and it was working good for a while...

But... I think this counts as fused right?

Yep. That's why I switched over to the Automation direct relay. I had no confidence in the quality of the Fotek unit.
