Build Area Question

I'm ready to purchase a printer, but the only thing holding me back is the size of the build area. The height and width (left/right) is perfect, but I would like to modify the printer with a longer (depth) bed. Is this possible? Has anyone already done it? Is there a step by step guide to do so?

I imagine it's possible but haven't seen anyone do it. Generally increasing X and Y on a cartesian is a bad idea. It's usually better to increase along the Z, such as the Robo Beast: http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?threads/the-makings-of-a-beast.6141/
