Wow! Those are not cheap. I have an Oreck ionizer with an activated carbon filter. I was planning on reverse engineering the filters for the activated carbon, printing my own, and filling them with carbon from the pet store.

I wonder if you could also make something like those filters using one of those $6 GE whole house water filters.

I'm sure you could make one for yourself cheaper, You could get those activated carbon pieces from a pet store, throw them in some sort of tube and have a fan circulating the air through it.

Google search result, I swear. I prefix a lot of searches with "DIY" to find less expensive ways to achieve goals.

Just throwing it out there as a salt water enthusiast. You could go to the local pet store pickup a filter sock (for $7) some activated carbon ($10-20) and grab a computer fan ($15) and have it good to go. The ebay link looks like the carbon is encased in the walls of a tube, but I don't see why having it concentrated in a bag wouldn't work. Thing to realize though is that activated carbon absorbs ALOT so you'd be swapping it out a lot

This is what I was planning, I'll probably design something to be printed off to hold the fan and carbon.

Who knew that salt water aquarium enthusiasts, indoor marijuana growers, and us would have so much in common?

Activated carbon will take care of the smells so if you decide to make an enclosure on the top just put a fan that shoots into some sort of container of activated carbon, the real question is if it will absorb the dangerous stuff that is also a by product of some 3d printing.

This is what I was wondering, my main concern is the smell, but it would be good to know if it takes care of the potentially dangerous fumes too.
