Nothing like feeling like a little kid on Christmas morning only to find out that there were no batteries in the new toy. :\

@Steve_kc. If possible can you use a multimeter to ohm out the connections to the extruder head? If you have a newer printer it has a connector near the head that you can unplug and measure the resistance between the heater wires. It should be around 3.5 or 5 ohms like Jerry says above. If the crimps are intermittent just unplugging and plugging it in again or jiggling it around may make it work (temporally).

I don't have a multimeter to ohm out the connections. I spend all day drawing and designing stuff.

I have noticed there is a red light under the unit... is that normal?

Yes. Red light usually indicates a circuit is active. Buy a multimeter, they're essential for the home.
