Have you seen this..........

    I was tinker with my printer, no power and no usb cable connected. When I moved the Carriage to the opposite side rather quickly. I noticed the backlight of my xxl screen glow. So I tried it again with both the X & Y it makes the screen glow. Can anyone else try this.

    Seems like they act as a generator to light the screen no text just a soft blue light.

    Yes, stepper motors can work as decent generators. I would avoid moving the carriage that fast just to make sure you are not putting reverse bias current on something on the Arduino enough to damage it.

    Some types of motors work fine as generators if you spin them :)
    You can put electrons in one end and get out motion or -- the other way 'round
