Laser addon

I have a R1+ and want to add a 5 or 10 watt diode laser to it. I read a comment from a while back that to get the system to function I could set the hot end min temp to 0C and hook the laser power to the fan so it can be turn on and off. Are there any gotchas that I should know about? Also, can anyone who has done this provide info on the laser (model, source etc.)?

I've turned my R1+ to laser engraver. I only have a 500mw laser from creality attach to it. but it woks fine, I wont be cutting anything thicker then a sheet of paper.
