I use Mobile 1 synthetic motor oil on smooth and threaded rods.
I wipe them off about once a week, then put a drop or two on each side of the bearing ends and slowly move the carriages back and forth. Do this slowly, the steppers can generate a spike if you move them to fast. Boards don't like spikes! Frank

I use non-conductive lithium grease. If you have a local microcenter or frys. they actually have some in a syringe and it says that it has been formulated for 3d Prints (high viscosity low density) if that's true or not i don't know but i like it. (no more squeaky)

When you lube the bearings and rods make sure you don't print right away. After lubricating wait about 30 min (if lithium grease) and then slide the bearings along the rods for like 10 min. Then you should be golden
