I just bought some MakeShaper PLA. I'm trying to get the settings right in Simplify3D. If anyone has any experience with it, input would be greatly appreciated. Also my hobbed bolt is skipping on the filament, so I'm going to try an oiler.

I have never used that specific brand of PLA, but (IMHO) I have never seen much variation in PLA settings.
Other than the difference in hotends on the two printers (one has a volcano and the other just an E3D v6) they don't change much.

If it is stringing it is too hot, lower the extrusion temp. :)

I assumed the same, that's why I'm going to try an oiler, but I spoke to the manufacturer and they mentioned that compared to other filaments theirs isn't a "high-flow" type, so it can often get stuck in the extruder if not careful.

Hmm, then slowing it down is about you next best step if it continues.
(overall print speed) Oiler may well sort it.

So im switching-off experimenting with 2 different PLAs from them - white and black. I had under-extrusion/skipping issues from both, slowing print speed to 30mm/s seemed to work for the black but not the white. Ideally i'd like to print at 60mm/s for both though (wouldn't we all).

do you have any other pla to use? Wonder if the same happens. I mean standard PLA 1.75 mm should be all pretty close as far as printer settings like Mark mentioned.

then I will ask the question I asked in the shoutbox...any gouges or big teeth marks in the filament when you pull it out? Do you have a caliper that you can use to measure the filament thickness?

Calipers are reading 1.78mm going in. I am seeing large teeth marks when it skips.

Im running a quick print right now. It usually starts skipping within 10 minutes. I can upload a pic of the print failure and hopefully some video of the skipping. If it doesn't fail, i'll just make an oiler and hang my head in shame.

If the size varies any larger then that might well explain some of it.
If it is consistently 1.78 or less... not so much.

My test print failed so I was able to get pictures. Attached is a picture of the bite marks, the failed print, is there a way to upload video?

looks to me that either the tension is too high, or there is some sort of clog happening.

I'll try to get a pic of the hobb bolt. Here's a link to the video - the only thing thats helpful is you can hear the skip sound.

My current theory is that this specific PLA doesn't flow as well as others, so it cloggs and then causes skipping.

yeah use your good PLA to make an oiler and lets see if that ends up helping if it is a clog issue.

After the failed print a lump of PLA oozed out, suggesting there was a backup inside. Also it was clogged when i switched to my good PLA. Attached are 4 pictures of the hobb bolt, with a quarter turn between each picture. IMG_20160817_175550337.jpg IMG_20160817_175611717.jpg IMG_20160817_175601193.jpg IMG_20160817_175525775.jpg

yeah she is stripping alright. The hobb looks ok though. So clogging might be your issue. Try the oiler and let's see where we are at after that. Or pitch that filament ;)
