I have a small item with three short legs, so I just want support for the first 4 layers (there are some overhangs further up but they are printing fine, so want to limit it to the first few layers).

In Slic3r Configuration I have the following settings under Support Material
    Overhang threshold 89*
Enforce support for the first 6 Layers
    Raft Layers 0
    Pattern Rectilinear
    Pattern Spacing 1mm

Slic3r isn't creating any support material. Are any of these settings wrong or am I missing something else? I did save them and am using the Print Settings with the support settings.

    Thanks.

I'm not sure on that overhang threshold.

Also be sure you run the file through Netfabb

Thanks, what should the overhang be?

I've printed this item a few times and (without the 'legs' so it didn't need support), so I'm assuming the file is fine.

Doesn't hurt to send it through netfabb. It's good practice to do it.

I've never fully understood overhang tolerances. But if I had to guess what you're telling it is to not add support for anything less than 89 degrees.

Okay, got it working. Print was a bit messy where it met the support but it worked out.
