So the printer has been great, no problems. Now it starts printing and then just stops and locks up during the print. My computer shows it still moving and building but no action from the printer. Seems to be doing it earlier every time as well, stops after about 5 minutes run time. Any ideas?

    USB communications problem most likely.
    -Examine COMM log for errors.
-Swap for a new/better USB cable
-print directly from SD card (bypass USB altogether)
-Try a USB hub (preferably a powered one) between the computer and printer
    -Try different software

This happend to me early on as well. A couple laps of electrical tape around the machine pushing the usb cable int seems to have done the trick. The slight vibrations of the machine seem to be enough to drop the USB connection.

I suppose one day I should draw a little hold down that could be used to fasten the cable in place.

I'm not near my printer right now so I don't know how much strain relief sticks out or what is to the left or right of the opening, but something like the attached should do the trick. Some number of washers would be needed to stand the holder off the amount the strain relief sticks out and a couple small self tapping screws would be a possible solution.

I also don't know if the cable is 3 or 4mm so I just made STLs of both.

OK all that makes sense, seems like a communication issue, I will try your suggestion, Thanks!

That makes a lot of sense as well, thanks for the quick part drawing!

Well, I bought a new gold USB cable, hooked it up and jammed some paper towel in around the plug to secure it and 5 seconds into the print, it stopped again. So I swapped the USB cable to another port on my laptop.....whalla, prints like a charm again. Thanks for the help again guys, you were spot on with the loss of communication.

    Yay! for the fix.
This is why for larger prints I just print from the SD card these days. I am not risking a long print to the hope that my serial comm won't die :)

FYI the cable is 5mm in diameter.

A couple 1" self tapping screws work well.
