So I had to replace the factory hot end, and I swapped it with this one I found on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/RepRapDiscount-Hexagon-Hotend-1-75mm-nozzle/dp/B00W8FL5BS

It's the exact same hot end, so I'm not sure why I'm getting problems. Anyway, after replacing, my prints are under extruding- it seems like it is most noticeable on the first layer. However, I'm thinking that it may not be under extrusion and maybe the nozzle is simply too high off the bed for the first layer? Either way a photo is attached and whoever can help me wins my eternal friendship. uploadfromtaptalk1460077787490.jpg

try changing your offset to 0.8.

I measured the amount extruded and it was shockingly accurate (96 mm extruded instead of 100). I wouldn't think that 4% would cause the issues I'm having... Any other suggestions?

If your printing in pla you may have to season the hot end. Lots of threads on this. What's the nozzle size of your new hotend? The stock robo is .4. If yours is larger or smaller you need to adjust in your slicer

. 4 nozzle. What exactly is seasoning a hot end? Breaking it in?

Short term fix is to bump up the extrusion multiplier to see if it helps

Seasoning the way I do it (found when I got my printer) is to heat the extruded dip pla about 1-3" I to canola oil then run that through the heated hotend. Like seasoning a frying pan.

This is the oiler I use with a small piece of sponge per instructions on the page. I add 3-4 drops of oil....whenever I can remember at least 1x/week. Your picture does look a little like under extrusion so try adjusting that but def add an oiler to save yourself some grief

So I tried lowering the z offset to - 0.1mm and let her run. Interestingly enough, the under extrusion seems to only be an issue with the first layer... What the heck could be causing this?

Getting the initial z offset can be very difficult. To high and you get gaps. To low and it just won't work. I think I moved mine closer to the bed .05 at a time then when it was to low I bumped it up by .2. Also check to make sure the nozzle is tight and the extruded is held in place securely, I'm sure it is but its worth a look.

If your using the r1 or plus with auto level ,How do your end switches look? If your x axis isn't square anymore it will give you grief
