I have a R1 with a Hex hot end. Is it possible to upgrade to the new quick release system by just printing out the plate, removing the top of the extruder from the X axis plate and then reassemble it with the plate in the middle. If not, what part am I missing or do I need o print as well as the quick release plate. Also, I found the plate for the E3D, will it work for the Hex? If not, can you point me to the Hex parts. Thanks

Yes you can, You just have to measure the Hexagon groove and make sure you use the correct thickness plate. I believe the Hex is 4.5 or 4.6 mm, I know the E3Dv6 is 6 mm.

Worked like a charm. Printed the E3D plate a 4.2mm thickness and it fit like a glove. The only thing that has to change are the two mounting screws. They need to be a tad bit longer, other than that it is an easy swap. Thanks again.
