New to 3 D printing and the used Robo R1 I inherited keeps glopping up and catching on previous layers. I got it to stick to the bed finally, but after about 3 or 4 layers the filament doesn't stick and the extruder catches on previous layers. ANy beginner-type fixes?

So probably over extrusion and you should start by calibrating the extruder.

However, if that doesn't sort it then reload the correct firmware because while the original beta, the R1 and the R1+ all look the same -- they have different firmware (and the Z steps are different). So if someone loaded the wrong firmware into the printer it could do what you see as well.

If you do not know which model it is post a picture of the one of the threaded rods where it goes under the bed from the top and let us know if the machine has a bottom cover.
