I am setting my printer up for the first time. Using MatterControl I attempted to zero each axis then apply an offset. I discovered the Z axis won't go back up. It appears that the lead screws have some Teflon tape wrapped on the surface that the flexible couplings grip. It is loose on both sides. The screws on the coupling are fully tighten. Guess I'll take it apart and try to shim the screws with something a bit more substantial and less slippery than Teflon tape.

Any tips or cautions would be appreciated.

Not exactly, but that would work as well. It would do the same job.

I wrapped some 22g buss wire around the thread. This seems to hold reasonably well. Now I just have to worry about calibration.
