High acceleration numbers cause the axis to jerk into place. If you remember anything from high school physics you should remember that nothing can instantly accelerate and that objects in motion want to stay in motion. That is the waves you see when the printer tries to jerk itself up to speed. Slowing the acceleration numbers allow Marlin to slowly bring the axis movement up to speed, alleviating the ringing. The trick is to find the right number that lowers the ringing but yet doesn't slow the axis to a crawl, extending print times.
