Mar 5, 2016 10:26 AM - kevin wilson: nope just cursa to robo straight from laptop
Mar 5, 2016 10:26 AM - WheresWaldo: Turvy, you can thank me later
Mar 5, 2016 10:27 AM - WheresWaldo: Kevin then there might have been a communication glitch, if you are doing a long print, you are better served using the SD card reader supplied or one on an LCD controller if you added one.
Mar 5, 2016 10:28 AM - kevin wilson: i never printed from the card, do i just dropped the code onto it, and plug it in?
Mar 5, 2016 10:28 AM - WheresWaldo: You can use the laptop to start the print from SD card, then disconnect the laptop yo will get much more reliable printing that way on long print jobs.
Mar 5, 2016 10:30 AM - WheresWaldo: Yes the gcode file is copied to the root directory of the SD card, it is then inserted into the Robo (which comes with an SD card slot) and you can use a front end to select and print the file direct from SD. I am pretty sure Pronterface built into Cura can do this.
Mar 5, 2016 10:32 AM - WheresWaldo: I stopped printing directly from my PC less than a month after I bought my R1. First printing directly from the Robo, then from the LCD controller, now from OctoPrint.
Mar 5, 2016 10:33 AM - jbigler1986: Lcd is the way to go
Mar 5, 2016 10:33 AM - WheresWaldo: If you don't have an LCD controller on your Robo I will tell you now it is the absolute best upgrade you could ever do.
Mar 5, 2016 10:34 AM - WheresWaldo: Hey JB, hows it hangin?
Mar 5, 2016 10:35 AM - kevin wilson: yeah i saw a lot of raspberry things
Mar 5, 2016 10:35 AM - WheresWaldo: The controller is cheaper than the raspberry stuff
Mar 5, 2016 10:36 AM - Bill Monroe: one spoke short of a wheel
    Mar 5, 2016 10:36 AM - WheresWaldo: Here is the one I bought http://www.banggood.com/RAMPS1_4-12864-LCD-Display-Controller-Kit-For-3D-Printer-p-958122.html
Mar 5, 2016 10:37 AM - WheresWaldo: Billy, your home!!!!
Mar 5, 2016 10:37 AM - Bill Monroe: why yes, yes I am
Mar 5, 2016 10:37 AM - AutopsyTurvy: That looks remarkably simple
Mar 5, 2016 10:38 AM - WheresWaldo: It is and they just work. For that one it does require two edits to Configuration.h but after that it is pure gold
Mar 5, 2016 10:39 AM - Bill Monroe: my XXL required zero edits
Mar 5, 2016 10:39 AM - Bill Monroe: and I can see it from outer space
Mar 5, 2016 10:39 AM - WheresWaldo: This one requires no edits, the XXL is just a larger version of it. http://www.banggood.com/3D-Printer-...Smart-Controller-Dispaly-Adapter-p-88825.html
Mar 5, 2016 10:39 AM - Bill Monroe: well, from across the room anyway
Mar 5, 2016 10:40 AM - kevin wilson: so waldo you bought that, installed it on to your machine and then you were good to go?
Mar 5, 2016 10:40 AM - WheresWaldo: But it's not as pretty since it is restricted to text only.
    Mar 5, 2016 10:40 AM - WheresWaldo: Yep
Mar 5, 2016 10:40 AM - Bill Monroe: and it comes in a really cute case you can repurpose to hold makeup brushes
Mar 5, 2016 10:41 AM - WheresWaldo: Well I did have to cut a small notch in the bottom cover of the robo to allow the cables to poke through.
Mar 5, 2016 10:42 AM - AutopsyTurvy: I was gonna print some claw feet to lift it up a bit anyway
Mar 5, 2016 10:42 AM - WheresWaldo: Just an FYI, it is identical to the stuff sold on Amazon since most of Amazon's stuff comes from China anyway.
Mar 5, 2016 10:43 AM - WheresWaldo: Oooh, bear claw feet on a Robo, how Victorian of you.
Mar 5, 2016 10:44 AM - Bill Monroe: she should replicate Viking feet.. complete with sandals
Mar 5, 2016 10:44 AM - Bill Monroe: ooo! wooden shoes!
Mar 5, 2016 10:44 AM - kevin wilson: ok, for now, i just dropped the gcode from cura onto the card, but then i have to kick start it somehow?
Mar 5, 2016 10:44 AM - AutopsyTurvy: ... ok yeah I gotta do that. Clogs for my printer. :D
Mar 5, 2016 10:45 AM - WheresWaldo: Kevin, my thoughts on electronics like this is do I make Jeff Besos richer or do I wait the extra week or two and cut him out of the equation.
    Mar 5, 2016 10:46 AM - Bill Monroe: <hi5>
Mar 5, 2016 10:46 AM - WheresWaldo: I haven't used Cura in a while but I though the Pronterface screen will let you kick it off, or you could install repetier-host and control it from there, I know it can do it.
Mar 5, 2016 10:46 AM - kevin wilson: i'm patient, and dont mind basic stuff, ease of use is good, don't want to have to sodder stuff together
Mar 5, 2016 10:47 AM - WheresWaldo: No solder, it just plugs in.
Mar 5, 2016 10:48 AM - WheresWaldo: Thought I had an image of my printer in the cloud but can't find it now.
Mar 5, 2016 10:50 AM - kevin wilson: yeah saw that which is good
Mar 5, 2016 10:57 AM - WheresWaldo: A post with the XXL version is here http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?threads/reprapdiscount-lcd-display.902/#post-4706 The standard 2004 is the same display just physically smaller.
Mar 5, 2016 11:00 AM - WheresWaldo: Here is one with the Full Graphics LCD controller http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?threads/reprapdiscount-lcd-display.902/page-17#post-57411
    Mar 5, 2016 11:00 AM - WheresWaldo: Much prettier...
    Mar 5, 2016 11:01 AM - Bill Monroe: :p
Mar 5, 2016 11:02 AM - WheresWaldo: Billy, of all people you should be more supportive of prettier .... ;)
    Mar 5, 2016 11:05 AM - Bill Monroe: I am, but it's not
Mar 5, 2016 11:05 AM - Bill Monroe: calling that abomination pretty is like calling Obama a good president
Mar 5, 2016 11:06 AM - Bill Monroe: now, if it would display HD videos, then you could call it full graphic
Mar 5, 2016 11:06 AM - AutopsyTurvy: I'll both agree with Bill on the first point while giving him the side-eye on the second.
Mar 5, 2016 11:06 AM - WheresWaldo: Compared to the 2004, which is utilitarian by very definition defaults the graphics one to prettier.
Mar 5, 2016 11:06 AM - Bill Monroe: but as it is, the goodyear blimp is more graphic
Mar 5, 2016 11:07 AM - Bill Monroe: but for the moment, I must seek out a 2-56 tap
Mar 5, 2016 11:08 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Good to know my printed pauldrons are durable. Which I accidentally tested by throwing a huge full roll of duct tape into the bag with 'em without thinking.
Mar 5, 2016 11:08 AM - WheresWaldo: That is why I use this on occasion [IMG]
Mar 5, 2016 11:09 AM - WheresWaldo: Oops, that was in response to little billy...
Mar 5, 2016 11:11 AM - WheresWaldo: Decided not to paint anything on my glass bed, so now I am left with the choice of putting an XT60 plug and socket on the wiring or just going straight to the RAMPS.
Mar 5, 2016 11:11 AM - WheresWaldo: I guess I could always do that later.
Mar 5, 2016 11:17 AM - WheresWaldo: I am off to reassemble my Robo, see you guys later.
    Mar 5, 2016 12:42 PM - Bill Monroe: back
Mar 5, 2016 1:47 PM - kevin wilson: so annoyed, one i ordered the lcd
Mar 5, 2016 1:49 PM - kevin wilson: then my com port went puff so couldn't connect to my printer, so not sure if i wasn't getting setting right or if that so now back to using repetier
Mar 5, 2016 1:50 PM - kevin wilson: so there is host, server and firmware, anyone know which i should start with for the plus
Mar 5, 2016 2:01 PM - kevin wilson: well finnaly got repetier to connect,
    Mar 5, 2016 2:20 PM - jbigler1986: Yep repetier host is great
    Mar 5, 2016 2:21 PM - jbigler1986: Probably the best free one
Mar 5, 2016 2:39 PM - kevin wilson: so i exported my stl from fusion, opened it in rep, used the cura slicer, played with the settings, uploading the gcode to the card now
Mar 5, 2016 2:39 PM - kevin wilson: some reason i'm missing two missles from my boat, but that is prob how i made the thing and this is just a test anyhow
Mar 5, 2016 2:39 PM - kevin wilson: rep is at least connected to my machine now
Mar 5, 2016 2:50 PM - kevin wilson: not sure if i should just cut in cura and drop it on the card then just use rep to start it
Mar 5, 2016 3:10 PM - kevin wilson: sigh now i'm getting a open file fail, and its putting a ~ in the file name. I exported right from cura onto SD< put it in, but getting the failed error
    Mar 5, 2016 3:27 PM - kevin wilson: pens http://www.bourbonandboots.com/collections/pens-and-writing
Mar 5, 2016 4:27 PM - Captain McGillacutty: anyone know hoe deep the x axis rod hole is
    Mar 5, 2016 4:27 PM - Captain McGillacutty: hole*
    Mar 5, 2016 4:36 PM - jbigler1986: Not sure why
    Mar 5, 2016 4:41 PM - Captain McGillacutty: making a wider carriage
Mar 5, 2016 4:41 PM - Captain McGillacutty: i cannot stand the clutter and airflow
Mar 5, 2016 4:46 PM - jbigler1986: So are you widening the the x brackets too? On the base
Mar 5, 2016 4:46 PM - Captain McGillacutty: the brackets on the z axis
Mar 5, 2016 4:47 PM - Captain McGillacutty: adding 18 mm to each side
    Mar 5, 2016 4:50 PM - Bill Monroe: bueno
Mar 5, 2016 4:50 PM - Captain McGillacutty: dang we need a tvss on the extruder fan, when you move the bed you get surge
Mar 5, 2016 4:51 PM - kevin wilson: print stopped in the same spot twice does fusion run somekind of check when it makes a stl file to see if there is any loopholes about printing
    Mar 5, 2016 4:52 PM - Captain McGillacutty: i havent had a problem
Mar 5, 2016 4:52 PM - Captain McGillacutty: what mods have you done
Mar 5, 2016 4:53 PM - jbigler1986: Kevin is your ramps fan working?
Mar 5, 2016 4:54 PM - Captain McGillacutty: same spot could be extruder temp fault if you have a shitty duct
Mar 5, 2016 4:55 PM - Captain McGillacutty: or too much fan
Mar 5, 2016 4:56 PM - kevin wilson: yeah the fan that came with it is, the print was fine until this point
Mar 5, 2016 4:57 PM - kevin wilson: spent most of the day trying to print for the sd card, got some error from repetier
Mar 5, 2016 4:57 PM - Captain McGillacutty: did you install a new print fan duct
Mar 5, 2016 4:57 PM - kevin wilson: so tried again from cura, same spot. my glass doesn't quite line up the corner points are off by an inch
Mar 5, 2016 4:57 PM - Captain McGillacutty: i never could get the installed sd reader to work
Mar 5, 2016 4:57 PM - kevin wilson: no everything is orginal from the plus
Mar 5, 2016 4:58 PM - Captain McGillacutty: did you use the preset in cura
Mar 5, 2016 4:58 PM - kevin wilson: made the model in fusion and exported right to cura
Mar 5, 2016 4:58 PM - Bill Monroe: kevin, do you have dropbox?
Mar 5, 2016 4:58 PM - kevin wilson: all blocks that were connected
    Mar 5, 2016 4:58 PM - kevin wilson: yeah
Mar 5, 2016 4:58 PM - Captain McGillacutty: no no, did you use the setup wizard or did you manually set it up

Mar 5, 2016 4:58 PM - Bill Monroe: ok.. could you put your stl ther and share it? i'll take a look at it
Mar 5, 2016 4:59 PM - kevin wilson: setup wizard for what, cura, fusion, repetier?
    Mar 5, 2016 4:59 PM - Captain McGillacutty: cura
    Mar 5, 2016 5:01 PM - jbigler1986: Latees
Mar 5, 2016 5:02 PM - jbigler1986: Latest curator is for ultimaker only unless you modify it
    Mar 5, 2016 5:02 PM - Bill Monroe: Justin
    Mar 5, 2016 5:02 PM - Captain McGillacutty: later
    Mar 5, 2016 5:02 PM - jbigler1986: Damnit. Cura*
    Mar 5, 2016 5:02 PM - jbigler1986: Hola Bill
Mar 5, 2016 5:02 PM - Bill Monroe: did you ever get a laser cutter?
Mar 5, 2016 5:03 PM - jbigler1986: Not yet. Still deciding on one. Really thinking about spending the extra for a 50 watt one because the cut area is a lot bigger
    Mar 5, 2016 5:03 PM - Captain McGillacutty: be a size queen!
    Mar 5, 2016 5:03 PM - jbigler1986: Yep
    Mar 5, 2016 5:03 PM - Bill Monroe: there's one smaller than 50? I ws looking at the 60
    Mar 5, 2016 5:04 PM - kevin wilson: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7n5obsp4t33hm45/boatstl.stl?dl=0
Mar 5, 2016 5:04 PM - kevin wilson: think that is the one i used
    Mar 5, 2016 5:04 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah. Lots of 40w ones with a cut area of 12x8
Mar 5, 2016 5:04 PM - kevin wilson: cura i used the lowest setting because it was a prototype, i have printed with it last week and it was fne
Mar 5, 2016 5:04 PM - Bill Monroe: ok kev stand by
    Mar 5, 2016 5:05 PM - Bill Monroe: 12x8 wont do
    Mar 5, 2016 5:05 PM - kevin wilson: https://gallery.autodesk.com/fusion360/projects/battleshots?popupSNS=true thats the fusion
Mar 5, 2016 5:05 PM - Bill Monroe: stl has no faulty faces...
Mar 5, 2016 5:06 PM - Bill Monroe: how big is it?
    Mar 5, 2016 5:06 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah that's why I think I am going to go with the 50
    Mar 5, 2016 5:06 PM - Bill Monroe: whats the 50 size?
    Mar 5, 2016 5:07 PM - Bill Monroe: wow look 8 or 9 inches...
Mar 5, 2016 5:08 PM - Bill Monroe: that will be a challenging print... supports-wise
    Mar 5, 2016 5:08 PM - Bill Monroe: looks like a cup holder :)
    Mar 5, 2016 5:09 PM - kevin wilson: it is a cup holder, 3 3oz cup holders
    Mar 5, 2016 5:09 PM - Bill Monroe: <-- hi-5's himself
    Mar 5, 2016 5:09 PM - jbigler1986: 16x16
Mar 5, 2016 5:09 PM - Bill Monroe: where does it fail?
Mar 5, 2016 5:10 PM - kevin wilson: that you fill with beer type stuff, part of a game
Mar 5, 2016 5:10 PM - kevin wilson: second run of the first layer
Mar 5, 2016 5:10 PM - Bill Monroe: i think the 60W was in the 20-24 square range
Mar 5, 2016 5:10 PM - kevin wilson: half way through it
Mar 5, 2016 5:10 PM - Captain McGillacutty: watch your extruder temp
Mar 5, 2016 5:10 PM - kevin wilson: right at the edge both times, wonder if its just a hair tooo big
Mar 5, 2016 5:10 PM - jbigler1986: When the parts fan turns on?
Mar 5, 2016 5:11 PM - Captain McGillacutty: does your print fan start right away
Mar 5, 2016 5:11 PM - Bill Monroe: not too big.. and if it was there'd be grinding/clunking sounds.. it wouldnt stop
Mar 5, 2016 5:11 PM - kevin wilson: fan set to go on at .1 height and 100%
    Mar 5, 2016 5:11 PM - jbigler1986: The 60w is probably like 5k though
Mar 5, 2016 5:11 PM - Captain McGillacutty: check your clearance on the x carriage and witch screw
    Mar 5, 2016 5:11 PM - Bill Monroe: 2K-ish.. shipping varies
Mar 5, 2016 5:12 PM - Captain McGillacutty: also check the auto level switches
    Mar 5, 2016 5:12 PM - jbigler1986: That's not to bad
Mar 5, 2016 5:12 PM - Bill Monroe: no.. what was the 50?
Mar 5, 2016 5:12 PM - kevin wilson: at least it stops at the begining
Mar 5, 2016 5:12 PM - Captain McGillacutty: may be un swaure and it jacks eveything up
    Mar 5, 2016 5:12 PM - jbigler1986: 1200
Mar 5, 2016 5:12 PM - Bill Monroe: yow.. 800 bux for more space
    Mar 5, 2016 5:13 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah
Mar 5, 2016 5:13 PM - Captain McGillacutty: which cutter is this!
Mar 5, 2016 5:13 PM - Bill Monroe: i want to cut thin plywoods and balsa
    Mar 5, 2016 5:13 PM - Bill Monroe: more-watts
Mar 5, 2016 5:14 PM - Bill Monroe: the stl slices OK Kev.. 11 hours on my machine settings
Mar 5, 2016 5:16 PM - Captain McGillacutty: the could be in slicer settings if you are off square as well. you can make a new profile in cura and use the wizard if there is no physical limitation
Mar 5, 2016 5:20 PM - kevin wilson: i set it for low with supports
Mar 5, 2016 5:20 PM - kevin wilson: just for the guns on the side sticking out
    Mar 5, 2016 5:20 PM - kevin wilson: got about 9.5 hours

    Mar 6, 2016 at 5:55 AM - danzca6: 3D Printed violin playing U2...kid did a nice job...thought it was cool...
Mar 6, 2016 at 5:58 AM - danzca6: check out his other videos of it. Impressive talent
Mar 6, 2016 at 6:37 AM - kevin wilson: morning
Mar 6, 2016 at 6:40 AM - kevin wilson: found out some fun things yesterday, 1)if your printer is in use for some reason turn it of, delete is from device manager and then turn it back on. Comm prob changed so have to update settings.
Mar 6, 2016 at 6:40 AM - kevin wilson: 2) if your fusion thing seems to stop at the same point in a print, and it has a lot of parts, copy and paste it all into a new file it cleans it up
Mar 6, 2016 at 8:19 AM - Mike Kelly: welp 2 offers after 1 day of showing
Mar 6, 2016 at 8:24 AM - danzca6: they all want to pay you in cash and twice what you are asking
    Mar 6, 2016 at 8:24 AM - danzca6: haha...congrats on the interest...it will go quick from here
Mar 6, 2016 at 8:24 AM - Mike Kelly: haha
    Mar 6, 2016 at 8:25 AM - danzca6: well...off to church...bbl...congrats again
    Mar 6, 2016 at 8:27 AM - AutopsyTurvy: http://i.imgur.com/yyTssW5.jpg ... lol, that's a lot of support.
Mar 6, 2016 at 8:46 AM - jbigler1986: Mcgregor lost. Hahaha. Love it when shit talkers like that lose. Probably the only time I have ever rooted for a Diaz brother
Mar 6, 2016 at 8:46 AM - jbigler1986: Finally making a dust boot for the cnc
Mar 6, 2016 at 9:24 AM - kevin wilson: yeah turvy, why wouldn't you print it upside down less support,
Mar 6, 2016 at 9:25 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Because then the rough part would be on top and more visible.
Mar 6, 2016 at 9:25 AM - kevin wilson: not sure of the angle, might even get away with 0, athough its long, can you just print say one square inch of support say half way down the arms, can the software do that
Mar 6, 2016 at 9:26 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Can't tell from the picture but the top of the arms has these detailed groove things. The bottom is just smooth.
Mar 6, 2016 at 9:26 AM - AutopsyTurvy: I probably could get away with less but ehhhh, filament's cheap.
Mar 6, 2016 at 9:27 AM - kevin wilson: gotcha yeah if you want the detail then thats the right way, but is there software that you can select how much support you want?
Mar 6, 2016 at 9:27 AM - kevin wilson: other then, everywhere, and touching only
    Mar 6, 2016 at 9:27 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Of course. I'm using Simplify3D - I can put supports whereever I want.
Mar 6, 2016 at 9:28 AM - AutopsyTurvy: But I had it auto-add support for all areas over a 65 degree overhang, which I know is about the limit of this pla and my cooling to not sag so
Mar 6, 2016 at 9:29 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Probably could've split it in half and done no support at all, but then it'd have been weaker and it needs to at least be strong enough to hold its own weight and the rest of the sword without breaking.
Mar 6, 2016 at 9:30 AM - kevin wilson: yeah weaker is for the ...ummm weak...yeah
Mar 6, 2016 at 9:30 AM - kevin wilson: naw you want something to stand up to time and some use
Mar 6, 2016 at 9:31 AM - AutopsyTurvy: It's gotta survive two convention days, and then it's gonna get hung up on the wall. I don't intend to hit anything with it but I want to be able to hold it up for pics without it snapping under its own weight
Mar 6, 2016 at 9:33 AM - kevin wilson: dunno, con's can get crazy you may have to hit some guys with it
Mar 6, 2016 at 9:35 AM - AutopsyTurvy: I think a kick in the crotch would be more effective than breaking my sword on some douchebag.
Mar 6, 2016 at 9:35 AM - AutopsyTurvy: 'Sides, my costume's more appealing to lesbians than neckbeards. :p
Mar 6, 2016 at 9:55 AM - Bill Monroe: rain.. why did there have to be rain....
Mar 6, 2016 at 9:57 AM - kevin wilson: wait, how can a custume be more appealing to lesbians then men, just because your playing more of a male character?
    Mar 6, 2016 at 10:00 AM - Bill Monroe: <-- Lesbian
Mar 6, 2016 at 10:09 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Not a male character. A butch woman.
Mar 6, 2016 at 10:10 AM - AutopsyTurvy: But... covered except for my head, and no boob armor, nothing sexy at all about it, just a badass warrior lady.
Mar 6, 2016 at 10:10 AM - Bill Monroe: oh *yawn*
    Mar 6, 2016 at 10:10 AM - Bill Monroe: :)
    Mar 6, 2016 at 10:10 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Clearly not a lesbian, then, m8. :p
Mar 6, 2016 at 11:48 AM - jbigler1986: What the hell did I walk into
Mar 6, 2016 at 12:05 PM - kevin wilson: lol, i'm all for bad ass warrior ladies, see xman? that shaved head girl kicked some ass, she was cute
    Mar 6, 2016 at 12:55 PM - jbigler1986: [IMG] dust boot installed
Mar 6, 2016 at 1:27 PM - Robb: Does anyone have a copy of the R1+ firmware? They don't offer a link online to download and i need to mod it a little for my new R1+
Mar 6, 2016 at 1:46 PM - kevin wilson: ummm not sure how to get it off the machine.....i don't think it came with the sd card..
Mar 6, 2016 at 1:46 PM - kevin wilson: very nice on the dust collector
Mar 6, 2016 at 2:27 PM - jbigler1986: It's the leads crew upgrade firmware on their site
Mar 6, 2016 at 2:51 PM - jbigler1986: Thanks. Yeah needed dust collection for a while. Got tired of sweeping all of the time
Mar 6, 2016 at 2:53 PM - danzca6: What's louder? The CNC or the shopvac
Mar 6, 2016 at 2:54 PM - danzca6: Been looking for a quiet shop vac to use on my cnc when finished
Mar 6, 2016 at 2:54 PM - jbigler1986: Router. Need to get a VFD for my actual spindle so I can stop using a normal router
    Mar 6, 2016 at 2:55 PM - jbigler1986: I have a water-cooled spindle for it
Mar 6, 2016 at 2:56 PM - danzca6: did you make the grooved plate for table
    Mar 6, 2016 at 2:57 PM - jbigler1986: Yep
    Mar 6, 2016 at 2:57 PM - jbigler1986: Just used a keyhole bit
Mar 6, 2016 at 2:57 PM - danzca6: nice..how thick is it? Holding up well it looks like
Mar 6, 2016 at 2:59 PM - jbigler1986: 3/4 inch. Holds up really well actually. Should have used mdf instead of particle board but this been holding well
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:00 PM - danzca6: ever think to do a vacuum table? Seen some, but just not sure how well the hold parts
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:01 PM - jbigler1986: I'm leveling the surface right now. It's 0.4mm higher on the right side and been annoying me when engraving
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:01 PM - jbigler1986: Have thought about a vacuum table. Will do it someday
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:02 PM - jbigler1986: They hold parts good. Although you can just leave a few tabs to keep the part from completely cutting free if needed
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:03 PM - danzca6: So who won laser tag yesterday
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:05 PM - jbigler1986: My team won both team matches. Came in 2nd in the free for all. We had a blast. Most fun I have had in a long time. Kids said the same thing. It was awesome
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:06 PM - jbigler1986: Brought back lots of memories as I use to play paintball alot and was in a few leagues
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:08 PM - danzca6: never done paintball. Looks like fun. Glad you had a good day with the kids. Hopefully more of that coming soon
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:13 PM - jbigler1986: Oh it is. Hopefully tons of it. Going for full custody on April 4th.
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:14 PM - jbigler1986: How far along are you on the MPCNC
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:19 PM - danzca6: all the non printed components are here...printer ran into an issue the other day. Bearing went bad. So that has slowed the printed parts. Waiting on new bearings to come in this week.
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:19 PM - danzca6: we are heading for vacation a week from today, so it might not get assembled by Easter like I had hoped.
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:20 PM - danzca6: Man, the 4th is just around the corner it feels like...I wish you the best of luck
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:21 PM - danzca6: I'm sure it feels far away for you
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:22 PM - jbigler1986: Not really. It has been nothing but awesome stuff for the past month.
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:23 PM - jbigler1986: My cnc I found at a local pawn shop. Had everything except the electronics
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:23 PM - jbigler1986: They were asking 499 or 599 don't remember but I got it for 250 since I told them it need electronics and wouldn't work at all without them
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:29 PM - danzca6: not bad...I hope to only be about $300 into this one
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:29 PM - danzca6: Might install a laser diode as well for etching and light cutting
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:29 PM - danzca6: Still want one of the CO2 lasers though
    Mar 6, 2016 at 3:31 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah same
    Mar 6, 2016 at 3:31 PM - danzca6: any luck finding a deal?
    Mar 6, 2016 at 3:31 PM - jbigler1986: Not yet
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:34 PM - danzca6: well, just more time to save I guess
    Mar 6, 2016 at 3:34 PM - danzca6: That's what I keep telling myself at least
    Mar 6, 2016 at 3:34 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:37 PM - danzca6: I saw your rewiring job the other day. looks good. That has to feel better not looking at the rat nest
Mar 6, 2016 at 3:54 PM - jbigler1986: Yew. Took 2 days. It was a total nightmare before. Should have taken a before picture but was to embarrassed

    Mar 7, 2016 12:11 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Morning folks
Mar 7, 2016 1:30 AM - Bill Monroe: good morning
    Mar 7, 2016 4:57 AM - Schlomo: Morning Gents
    Mar 7, 2016 4:58 AM - Schlomo: and Ladies
    Mar 7, 2016 5:22 AM - JeffTheMess: morning roboneers
    Mar 7, 2016 6:04 AM - kevin wilson: morning
    Mar 7, 2016 6:19 AM - JeffTheMess: howdy
    Mar 7, 2016 6:19 AM - Bill Monroe: yo
Mar 7, 2016 6:21 AM - JeffTheMess: hows it going Bill
Mar 7, 2016 6:21 AM - Bill Monroe: pretty good, you?
Mar 7, 2016 6:22 AM - JeffTheMess: not too bad
Mar 7, 2016 6:25 AM - Bill Monroe: mesa cards should be here today
    Mar 7, 2016 6:26 AM - JeffTheMess: nice
Mar 7, 2016 6:32 AM - WheresWaldo: Hey, hey, hey.....
    Mar 7, 2016 6:32 AM - Bill Monroe: waldo
    Mar 7, 2016 6:33 AM - WheresWaldo: Bill
Mar 7, 2016 6:34 AM - WheresWaldo: Anything interesting going on today?
Mar 7, 2016 6:35 AM - kevin wilson: working on my 2x battleshot ship
Mar 7, 2016 6:36 AM - WheresWaldo: Kev, I am sure we will see photos along the way????
Mar 7, 2016 6:36 AM - Bill Monroe: continuing my education about Linux and LinuxCNC
Mar 7, 2016 6:37 AM - WheresWaldo: Bill, more Linux or more LinuxCNC?
Mar 7, 2016 6:39 AM - Bill Monroe: both I guess... mostly the CNC software but the OS is still new to me too
Mar 7, 2016 6:39 AM - WheresWaldo: I'm working on a couple of things, getting the cutting edge Marlin source to work on the Robo (almost done), testing a couple of new filaments (just starting), finishing up season 4 of House of Cards.
Mar 7, 2016 6:39 AM - Bill Monroe: right now trying to grok the HAL
Mar 7, 2016 6:40 AM - WheresWaldo: I know a bit (not very much) of Linux having set up numerous XBMC/Kodi boxes, FreeNAS as well as a couple of rPi's
Mar 7, 2016 6:40 AM - WheresWaldo: Just enough to be dangerous.
Mar 7, 2016 6:42 AM - WheresWaldo: Only thing left on my network are the rPi's as now I am using the much less capable PLEX and Stopped using FreeNAS years ago.
Mar 7, 2016 6:42 AM - Bill Monroe: sounded like it would be interesting.. the mesa cards basically bring the PCI right out to a breakout board, much like what I'm used to when building testing machines, but with no windoze overhead
Mar 7, 2016 6:46 AM - Bill Monroe: but the HAL (hardware abstract layer) file uses so much specific terminology that's unfamiliar to me that it's been tough to understand how to configure it
Mar 7, 2016 6:47 AM - WheresWaldo: Abstraction layers are very difficult to write also. There is just so much very specific hardware that needs to be supported.
Mar 7, 2016 6:47 AM - Bill Monroe: yes indeed
Mar 7, 2016 6:47 AM - kevin wilson: yeah printed the 3x sized one, and painted it silver
Mar 7, 2016 6:47 AM - WheresWaldo: Of course that is why we need abstraction layers in the first place.
Mar 7, 2016 6:48 AM - kevin wilson: so yeah its been done before except i have a solution for score keeping, and the wall
Mar 7, 2016 6:48 AM - Bill Monroe: basically I'm working towards understanding how LinuxCNC communicates a tool change event so I can get it to talk to a PLC
    Mar 7, 2016 6:48 AM - kevin wilson: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10207995652883263&set=rpd.1656368731&type=3&theater
Mar 7, 2016 6:50 AM - WheresWaldo: Kev, what are you using to print this with, PLA or something else?
Mar 7, 2016 6:50 AM - Bill Monroe: so what was the problem with the printer stopping?
Mar 7, 2016 6:52 AM - kevin wilson: pla, i took the file and just took the finished ship part of it, copied and pasted it to a blank new file, that worked
Mar 7, 2016 6:53 AM - kevin wilson: it may have been a hookup on how fusion handled how i put it together command wise
Mar 7, 2016 7:19 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Let's see how primer looks on the sword pieces I have done. :D
    Mar 7, 2016 7:22 AM - kevin wilson: :)
    Mar 7, 2016 7:34 AM - danzca6: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:163048
    Mar 7, 2016 7:34 AM - danzca6: an alternate battleshot thing
Mar 7, 2016 7:35 AM - danzca6: be fun just to have for the bar
Mar 7, 2016 7:35 AM - danzca6: I might have to make some for my bother in law who has a bar in IA
    Mar 7, 2016 7:40 AM - danzca6: Here's another...I like the multi color...http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1089810
Mar 7, 2016 7:42 AM - kevin wilson: the top one looks good, but the overhang of the ships prevents placement close on the board, overall i like the design though
    Mar 7, 2016 7:43 AM - danzca6: looks like a fun game
Mar 7, 2016 7:44 AM - kevin wilson: the bottom one i saw and is similar to mine, yeah its great played it a few times i have a wooden version
Mar 7, 2016 7:45 AM - kevin wilson: but the board was too big so it took too long even with partners, too man squares, game was 10 x 10. also no one wanted to do one with all shots too much for most
Mar 7, 2016 7:45 AM - danzca6: can even make it kid friendly if you really wanted. I just like the large ships. That puts the robo build area to good use
    Mar 7, 2016 7:45 AM - danzca6: yeah, I saw one with beer cans
Mar 7, 2016 7:45 AM - kevin wilson: so this version is for 3oz cups, fit to a 7 x 7 square board, so about a 1 in 3 chance of a hit so quicker player, and i have the wall and score card figured out
Mar 7, 2016 7:46 AM - kevin wilson: trick is getting the cups to fit, while staying inside a 3in x 3 inch square and get some details in like the rockets or helipad or whatever
    Mar 7, 2016 7:47 AM - danzca6: Morning Schlomo...how's the beast?
Mar 7, 2016 7:47 AM - danzca6: now if you had a laser, you could make some custom etched shot glasses
Mar 7, 2016 7:47 AM - Schlomo: beast is down until the mmail comes
Mar 7, 2016 7:48 AM - Schlomo: broke my heater core and sheared off my nozzle from the volcano
Mar 7, 2016 7:48 AM - Schlomo: because im too beast for the beast i guess lol
Mar 7, 2016 7:48 AM - kevin wilson: that would be cool, i figured the 3 oz cups can be found at any store, and is perfect for jello shots, or just jello
    Mar 7, 2016 7:48 AM - Schlomo: moving back to the v6
Mar 7, 2016 7:48 AM - danzca6: you have another printer though right
Mar 7, 2016 7:49 AM - Schlomo: v6 with a 0.6mm nozzle on it. THink im going to put a parts cooling fan on also for ABS as i believe the chamber heat with a fan should work well
Mar 7, 2016 7:49 AM - Schlomo: just my little 100mm guy which works awesome
Mar 7, 2016 7:50 AM - danzca6: mine had a bearing on the y axis go bad. So I had to order some new ones. Hopefully will be back online later this week to print some more MPCNC parts
Mar 7, 2016 7:51 AM - kevin wilson: i like using the top of the sub as a ship thats cool
Mar 7, 2016 7:51 AM - Schlomo: i think i need to up the heater size on the beast
Mar 7, 2016 7:51 AM - Schlomo: highest i can keep the temp in the enclosure is about 35c right now, its not as air tight either
Mar 7, 2016 7:52 AM - Schlomo: its starting to warm up outside though so that should help
    Mar 7, 2016 7:52 AM - danzca6: yeah, 60's all week here
Mar 7, 2016 8:03 AM - daniel871: Get a couple cans of that FlexSeal stuff and seal your Beast up on the outside.
    Mar 7, 2016 8:03 AM - daniel871: :p
Mar 7, 2016 8:08 AM - Schlomo: its mainly just the hole for the bowden tube and the seam where the case meets the enclosure
Mar 7, 2016 8:19 AM - daniel871: Some simple weather seal will solve the case/enclosure leak.
Mar 7, 2016 8:20 AM - daniel871: The spongy stuff that has adhesive on one side. Maybe 1/4 thick x 3/4 wide and just put it around the opening on both sides of the Robo so that the enclosure rests on it when closed.
Mar 7, 2016 8:20 AM - Schlomo: good idea. i might have some laying around
Mar 7, 2016 8:20 AM - Schlomo: still not sure 200w heater is enough for the larger case, however.
Mar 7, 2016 8:22 AM - daniel871: Should be enough to heat the larger case, it just may take a while longer.
Mar 7, 2016 8:24 AM - daniel871: Something similar could probably be done for the slot at the top, but I'm thinking something more along the lines of the sliding shower door seals like you see on those rounded corner showers.
Mar 7, 2016 8:25 AM - daniel871: Like, two plastic/rubber flaps that will allow the filament to be pushed/pulled thru, but which very nearly close the opening up when the filament isn't going between said flaps.
Mar 7, 2016 8:26 AM - Schlomo: i did that with reflectix insullation
Mar 7, 2016 8:26 AM - Schlomo: small slit which allows the tube to slide back and forth as the carriage gets closer to the top
Mar 7, 2016 8:29 AM - daniel871: I'm thinking something with a little more resistance to it. Something arranged like the product pictured here. http://www.amazon.com/M-D-Building-...TF8&qid=1457368132&sr=8-10&keywords=door+seal
Mar 7, 2016 8:29 AM - daniel871: But with the two seals pushed up against each other with some actual tension between them.
    Mar 7, 2016 8:54 AM - Mike Kelly: howdy
    Mar 7, 2016 8:55 AM - danzca6: Hey short timer
Mar 7, 2016 9:13 AM - Schlomo: woot the beast is back up and running
    Mar 7, 2016 9:19 AM - danzca6: v6 transplant was a success then
    Mar 7, 2016 9:22 AM - Schlomo: yessir
    Mar 7, 2016 9:22 AM - Schlomo: 0.6mm nozzle
    Mar 7, 2016 9:22 AM - Schlomo: new heatbreak
Mar 7, 2016 9:22 AM - Schlomo: nice and shiny
    Mar 7, 2016 9:22 AM - Schlomo: http://schlomorific.ddns.net:8080/stream_simple.html
Mar 7, 2016 9:22 AM - Schlomo: printing a Go-pro ram ball mount for my kayak
Mar 7, 2016 9:25 AM - Schlomo: oops forgot to prime the new heat break and nozzle
    Mar 7, 2016 9:37 AM - danzca6: small things
Mar 7, 2016 9:37 AM - danzca6: glad to hear you are back printing again
Mar 7, 2016 10:06 AM - Mike Kelly: neat print
Mar 7, 2016 10:18 AM - Schlomo: didnt turn out as well as I wanted, but its not bad

Mar 7, 2016 10:18 AM - Mike Kelly: 3 offers on the home already, probably get #4 today
Mar 7, 2016 10:19 AM - Mike Kelly: though i think one of them is already backing out
Mar 7, 2016 11:03 AM - Schlomo: sitting in a meeting on Skype with 150 people and also webex with 100 some people and the presenter is trying to use both her pc microphone for skype and phone for webex and its going to shit
    Mar 7, 2016 11:06 AM - Schlomo: i just left
    Mar 7, 2016 11:14 AM - danzca6: e3d titan extruder...wonder if that is the mystery e3d project
    Mar 7, 2016 11:55 AM - daniel871: Got a link?
Mar 7, 2016 11:57 AM - danzca6: Marquis Johnson mentioned it in his video of stuff he got from E3D and had a couple bags of parts that he said was the e3d titan extruder currently under development
    Mar 7, 2016 12:01 PM - danzca6:
Mar 7, 2016 12:02 PM - danzca6: looks like he is going to dual extrusion as well
    Mar 7, 2016 12:04 PM - danzca6: I wonder if this will be a bondtech competitor
    Mar 7, 2016 12:16 PM - BryZad: What's up all
Mar 7, 2016 12:18 PM - daniel871: I know there is an existing Titan extruder for 3d printers already, so I'm a bit confused as to what e3d would do.
Mar 7, 2016 12:18 PM - daniel871: basically an all-aluminum construction that looks like a blend of the MK* and hercustruders.
Mar 7, 2016 12:19 PM - daniel871: Unless e3d is doing a licensing/contracting bundle thing with the existing company that will be a v6/etc. variant.
Mar 7, 2016 12:20 PM - danzca6: yeah, and it was just a guess that this might be what MK was hinting towards being announced at the rep rap expo in a couple weeks
    Mar 7, 2016 12:20 PM - danzca6: Afternoon Bry
Mar 7, 2016 12:22 PM - BryZad: Good news Dan my printer didn't get smashed after the 20+ hour print and the 5 lb spool on top
    Mar 7, 2016 12:23 PM - danzca6: haha...that print prob didn't even make a dent in that spool
Mar 7, 2016 12:25 PM - BryZad: Nope ha ha can't tell off it
Mar 7, 2016 12:26 PM - BryZad: Was suppose to be 1lb of fillament too
Mar 7, 2016 12:27 PM - danzca6: with all you are printing for the BB-8, I bet you will chew through it pretty quickly
Mar 7, 2016 12:28 PM - BryZad: Yea got a bunch of panels to finish printing up now
Mar 7, 2016 12:28 PM - danzca6: any new progress picks since the frame was done?
Mar 7, 2016 12:30 PM - BryZad: Did you see the one with all the panels on the ground ?
    Mar 7, 2016 12:34 PM - BryZad: [IMG]
Mar 7, 2016 12:35 PM - BryZad: I got a few more triangel panels to make and the inner orange rings also
    Mar 7, 2016 12:36 PM - danzca6: yep, that's the last one I saw. Not a small project.
Mar 7, 2016 12:43 PM - BryZad: No it's not to bad and I have other projects that have been working on haven't dumped 100% into bb-8
Mar 7, 2016 12:44 PM - BryZad: But when the printer is idle it is working on BB-8
Mar 7, 2016 12:46 PM - Schlomo: What do you all think about a parts fan for ABS with a heated enclosure?
    Mar 7, 2016 12:48 PM - BryZad: [IMG]
Mar 7, 2016 12:48 PM - danzca6: I only use PLA...not sure if a parts fan is a benefit for ABS or not
Mar 7, 2016 12:49 PM - BryZad: I think parts fan on abs I haven't used it cause of making sure layers bond
    Mar 7, 2016 12:49 PM - danzca6: is that a masterchief helmet?
Mar 7, 2016 12:50 PM - Mike Kelly: does look like a mkV
Mar 7, 2016 12:50 PM - BryZad: No is a concept commando helmet from halo Each
Mar 7, 2016 12:50 PM - Mike Kelly: makes sense
Mar 7, 2016 12:50 PM - BryZad: I like how Mike has a grasp on the halo universe
Mar 7, 2016 12:51 PM - danzca6: hey mike...does the new e3d thing have anything to do with a titan extruder?
Mar 7, 2016 12:51 PM - BryZad: I have been modeling a frew new helmets from halo 5 also
Mar 7, 2016 12:52 PM - Schlomo: Imm not sure myself on the parts fan, but my prints are a little droopy with the enclosure without a fan.
    Mar 7, 2016 12:53 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah i'm a huge halo nerd
Mar 7, 2016 12:53 PM - Mike Kelly: dan link?
Mar 7, 2016 12:54 PM - danzca6: it was a youtube video marquis just posted and he mentioned it as under development
Mar 7, 2016 12:54 PM - danzca6: I put the link above to his video
    Mar 7, 2016 12:55 PM - danzca6:
Mar 7, 2016 12:55 PM - danzca6: looks like he is going dual extrusion as well
    Mar 7, 2016 12:55 PM - Mike Kelly: time?
Mar 7, 2016 12:55 PM - danzca6: I like that he got rid of the mohawk as well...too much like Mr T
    Mar 7, 2016 12:56 PM - danzca6: it's in the beginning
    Mar 7, 2016 12:56 PM - Mike Kelly: ah i see
    Mar 7, 2016 12:56 PM - daniel871: Good grief.
Mar 7, 2016 12:56 PM - Mike Kelly: i wonder if they told him that was ok
Mar 7, 2016 12:57 PM - danzca6: well, they may have not told him either way
    Mar 7, 2016 12:57 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah
    Mar 7, 2016 12:57 PM - danzca6: just sent him a box of goodies
Mar 7, 2016 12:57 PM - daniel871: Someone on one of the FB groups I'm in posts asking what the issue is with his bridge nylon print having holes in it. I asked "how humid is it where you print/how much moisture has the filament absorbed? You may have to bake it dry."
Mar 7, 2016 12:57 PM - Mike Kelly: if it looks like swiss cheese they're printing too fast
Mar 7, 2016 12:57 PM - daniel871: They said "I just opened it and it's very dry where I print, I don't want to resort to baking it yet and want to know my other options."
Mar 7, 2016 12:58 PM - daniel871: The picture they posted showed something that did fine on the base layers and started breaking up during finer details on the top of the print.
Mar 7, 2016 12:58 PM - daniel871: They claim they were printing at 15mm/s as well.
Mar 7, 2016 12:58 PM - Mike Kelly: i dunno what humidity looks like in nylon, i think it mostly looks like steam explosions
    Mar 7, 2016 12:58 PM - Mike Kelly: so print at 10
Mar 7, 2016 12:58 PM - Mike Kelly: when in doubt, print slower
    Mar 7, 2016 12:59 PM - daniel871: It does.
Mar 7, 2016 12:59 PM - Mike Kelly: so holes like swiss cheese is speed
Mar 7, 2016 1:00 PM - Mike Kelly: especially the transition from big features to fine detail, that change in back pressure does weird things to flexibles
Mar 7, 2016 1:00 PM - daniel871: It looks to me what a basic PLA print would look like if the retraction settings were wrong.
    Mar 7, 2016 1:01 PM - daniel871: Plus a partial nozzle clog
Mar 7, 2016 1:04 PM - danzca6: oh, in his comments of the vid he even mentions he made the vid private because he had to make sure he could talk about the new extruder
Mar 7, 2016 1:05 PM - danzca6: I guess since he made it public that E3D said it was ok
Mar 7, 2016 1:06 PM - danzca6: he only mentions it with a bag o parts, so not a lot given away
Mar 7, 2016 1:07 PM - daniel871: Hey, here's an unrelated question. What would be a good parts source to seal up the slot on the top of the robo similar to how some CD players seal the slot where you load a disc?
Mar 7, 2016 1:08 PM - danzca6: like two ends of a mini broom facing each other
Mar 7, 2016 1:08 PM - daniel871: Was talking to Schlomo earlier about sealing up his "Beast" build so that heat doesn't escape so quickly thru that slot while still allowing the filament to pass thru.
Mar 7, 2016 1:08 PM - daniel871: And also allowing it to slide along the X-axis as the carriage moves about.
Mar 7, 2016 1:09 PM - daniel871: More like the rubber blade on a squeegee or windshield wiper, but actually blocking the opening to really minimize the amount of air that gets out.
    Mar 7, 2016 1:14 PM - danzca6: not sure...tried searching a bit but coming up blanks
    Mar 7, 2016 1:14 PM - danzca6: that would be a good solution though
Mar 7, 2016 1:17 PM - danzca6: I find that 60% of that slot isn't even used on mine. Could just totally cover 30% on each side or more. Should still give it enough travel...the upper limit would be the only ticky place to make sure it travels as needed.
Mar 7, 2016 1:18 PM - danzca6: the new robos even have a filament guide placed in the slot...not sure if that even slides
Mar 7, 2016 1:18 PM - daniel871: I can confirm that it does, at least on mine.
    Mar 7, 2016 1:19 PM - danzca6: oh right...you have the new one
Mar 7, 2016 1:19 PM - daniel871: I pushed it to the middle and straight up sealed the slot with my favorite HVAC tape and figured I'd just be satisfied with not running filament until the carriage is literally about to scrape the ceiling.
    Mar 7, 2016 1:20 PM - Schlomo: i have a bowden anyway
Mar 7, 2016 1:21 PM - danzca6: and yours is just regular height..so schlomo has twice that to play with. I guess it is worth a try and see if it helps with interior temps
Mar 7, 2016 1:21 PM - daniel871: I didn't test it, but i think the guide piece on the plus might have enough material to allow drilling it out to let PTFE tubing slide thru it.
Mar 7, 2016 1:23 PM - Schlomo: mine actually fits the tube without any modifications
Mar 7, 2016 1:24 PM - danzca6: the black filament guide insert that came with the plus?
    Mar 7, 2016 1:25 PM - Schlomo: yes
    Mar 7, 2016 1:26 PM - danzca6: well there you go...good to know
    Mar 7, 2016 1:26 PM - Schlomo: its snug
Mar 7, 2016 1:26 PM - Schlomo: to prevent pinching you might want to widen it a bit
Mar 7, 2016 1:26 PM - Schlomo: but it does work
Mar 7, 2016 1:27 PM - Schlomo: with where my bondtech is, though, it puts an angled pressure on the black clip so it wont slide anymore, so i removed it
    Mar 7, 2016 2:00 PM - AutopsyTurvy: Sword's almost done printing: https://36.media.tumblr.com/2419686c52bdf86871466f13b4332f12/tumblr_o3ovnkWIGj1udnxozo3_1280.jpg
Mar 7, 2016 2:00 PM - AutopsyTurvy: And my pauldrons are coming along too: https://40.media.tumblr.com/16bf93c461c0e7ee2d1a2a992d9a1cca/tumblr_o3ovnkWIGj1udnxozo1_1280.jpg
    Mar 7, 2016 2:03 PM - danzca6: looking good
Mar 7, 2016 2:03 PM - danzca6: did you already paint the pauldrons
Mar 7, 2016 2:04 PM - AutopsyTurvy: Yep. A coat of black first and then a coat of silver, all spongey so it helps cover the layer lines and gives it texture.

Mar 7, 2016 2:05 PM - AutopsyTurvy: I'll probably do one more coat of silver and then start adding a bit of detailing/weathering/whatever.
    Mar 7, 2016 2:07 PM - danzca6: when is the event?
    Mar 7, 2016 2:07 PM - AutopsyTurvy: 26th and 27th of this month. :\
Mar 7, 2016 2:08 PM - AutopsyTurvy: Really hoping I have time to finish it all.
Mar 7, 2016 2:09 PM - danzca6: you seem close...did you ever get your yarnmail done?
Mar 7, 2016 2:09 PM - AutopsyTurvy: I've got the swatch almost done, but I still gotta knit a whole skirt out of it.
Mar 7, 2016 2:09 PM - danzca6: that sounds like the painful part to me
Mar 7, 2016 2:10 PM - AutopsyTurvy: It's... not ideal, no. I -could- just do like... trim, rather than a full skirt, just the parts that will show, but I kinda wanted to make it something I could wear separately.
Mar 7, 2016 2:13 PM - danzca6: I still can't believe how well your prints are coming out on your KS edition
Mar 7, 2016 2:13 PM - Mike Kelly: man i need a personal assistant or something
Mar 7, 2016 2:14 PM - Mike Kelly: so frazzled right now
Mar 7, 2016 2:14 PM - Mike Kelly: also Dan one sec i have an idea on the brush idea
Mar 7, 2016 2:14 PM - AutopsyTurvy: They always have. It's weird - I even had the damn thing sitting in my shed for the better part of a year, plugged it in, turned it on, did nothing but switch filament and it still prints beautifully.
Mar 7, 2016 2:15 PM - danzca6: thank goodness you don't move accross the country for a new job often
    Mar 7, 2016 2:15 PM - Mike Kelly: right?
Mar 7, 2016 2:15 PM - Mike Kelly: http://www.mcmaster.com/#7900t1/=11fuyw9 dan this is what i bought to make a dust boot for my CNC
Mar 7, 2016 2:15 PM - danzca6: well AT, you have gotten a good one then
Mar 7, 2016 2:15 PM - AutopsyTurvy: Which is why i don't want to mess with anything. :D
Mar 7, 2016 2:15 PM - Mike Kelly: you could double that up to get a good seal
Mar 7, 2016 2:16 PM - Mike Kelly: Topsy is the one who taught all us kickstarter backers that you COULD get good prints with that machine
Mar 7, 2016 2:17 PM - AutopsyTurvy: I still have to twiddle the threaded rods at the beginning of every print to get the z-height right, and it reaaallly likes to climb the filament and print spaghetti sometimes, but when it's not flailing confusedly, it does pretty things.
Mar 7, 2016 2:19 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah you could get an optical endstop, upgrade your firmware to Marlin 1.1.0 and have an LCD, then you could use the Mesh bed leveling
Mar 7, 2016 2:19 PM - Mike Kelly: no more twiddling the rods and besides changing the endstop shouldn't affect print quality in the slightest
Mar 7, 2016 2:20 PM - AutopsyTurvy: Yes, but then I would have to fiddle with things, and I would probably break something else.
    Mar 7, 2016 2:20 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah :)
Mar 7, 2016 2:21 PM - Mike Kelly: do you use an LCD yet?
Mar 7, 2016 2:21 PM - Mike Kelly: http://www.amazon.com/SainSmart-Optical-Endstop-Printer-MEGA2560/dp/B00EVOKHPO this is what the endstop looks like
Mar 7, 2016 2:22 PM - AutopsyTurvy: Nope. Laptop, mostly. I have a raspberry pi and octoprint and had them working happily but I need to replace an internet doodad before it'll work again.
    Mar 7, 2016 2:22 PM - Mike Kelly: ah
Mar 7, 2016 2:24 PM - AutopsyTurvy: Next time something breaks I'm gonna get a new hotend and LCD and I guess some endstops too. Till then I'm just not gonna even breathe on the thing too hard.
Mar 7, 2016 2:25 PM - AutopsyTurvy: If I was feeling particularly adventurous I'd do away with the drawer rails and wood bed and remarkably bowl-shaped glass, too.
    Mar 7, 2016 2:26 PM - Mike Kelly: geez
Mar 7, 2016 2:26 PM - Mike Kelly: well the mesh leveling will help with your bowl
Mar 7, 2016 2:26 PM - Mike Kelly: but might be time for a R1+ upgrade...
    Mar 7, 2016 2:26 PM - Mike Kelly: or a BigBox 3d ;)
Mar 7, 2016 2:32 PM - AutopsyTurvy: Heh, yeah, maybe at some point.
    Mar 7, 2016 2:33 PM - danzca6: hmmm, optical endstops...intriguing
Mar 7, 2016 2:34 PM - Mike Kelly: simple way to do mesh leveling with higher repeatability than the current Z "probe" robo uses
Mar 7, 2016 2:34 PM - Mike Kelly: i can help with the conversion as well
Mar 7, 2016 2:38 PM - jbigler1986: Damn. Why are trim router carbon brushes so damn expensive
Mar 7, 2016 2:39 PM - jbigler1986: Might as well just buy another cheap router
    Mar 7, 2016 2:39 PM - jbigler1986: Harborfreight here I come
Mar 7, 2016 2:42 PM - Mike Kelly: whats that jb
    Mar 7, 2016 2:45 PM - jbigler1986: What?
Mar 7, 2016 2:48 PM - Mike Kelly: trim router carbon brushes
Mar 7, 2016 2:48 PM - Mike Kelly: i'm guessing you mean it's not a brushless motor then
    Mar 7, 2016 2:48 PM - Mike Kelly: @danzca, http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/122/1310/=11fuyoh
Mar 7, 2016 2:53 PM - jbigler1986: Nope. It was the cheap like 30 dollar one from menards. Instead of paying 20 bucks for new brushes just going to buy another router for 30 with a spare set of brushes
Mar 7, 2016 2:53 PM - jbigler1986: Did you see the dust boot I made?
    Mar 7, 2016 3:16 PM - Mike Kelly: nope
Mar 7, 2016 3:18 PM - Mike Kelly: people who make their thread title in all caps makes me want no part in helping thewm
    Mar 7, 2016 3:18 PM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Mar 7, 2016 3:18 PM - Mike Kelly: slick man, nice work
Mar 7, 2016 3:18 PM - Mike Kelly: download that model or make it yourself?
    Mar 7, 2016 3:19 PM - jbigler1986: Download. Had to modify it a little
Mar 7, 2016 3:19 PM - jbigler1986: Works really well. Got tired of sweeping and vacuuming saw dust
Mar 7, 2016 3:19 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah man
Mar 7, 2016 3:19 PM - Mike Kelly: mine works well even without a shroud
Mar 7, 2016 3:20 PM - Mike Kelly: i bought so brush for it, like i linked earlier
Mar 7, 2016 3:20 PM - Mike Kelly: need to design a boot for it
Mar 7, 2016 3:20 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah I thought about that but wanted to see as it was cutting
Mar 7, 2016 3:21 PM - Mike Kelly: where'd you get the vinyl material?
    Mar 7, 2016 3:21 PM - jbigler1986: Hardware store. It's like some flooring rubber
Mar 7, 2016 3:22 PM - jbigler1986: Go back by where the carpet and hardwood flooring is and they have it on the big rolls. Was like 2 bucks a foot
Mar 7, 2016 3:22 PM - Schlomo: First mildly successful print on the Beast. Printed in Hatchbox Wood at 0.3mm layer height, 0.6mm nozzle, 2 perimeters, 3 top and bottom layers at 50mm/s

    Mar 7, 2016 3:23 PM - jbigler1986: Nice
Mar 7, 2016 3:24 PM - Schlomo: still have excess pressure in the nozzle when the layer starts
Mar 7, 2016 3:24 PM - Schlomo: have tried negative extra restart distance but i lose layers on small details
Mar 7, 2016 3:24 PM - Schlomo: im wondering if it could be due to my spring style z axis couplers?
    Mar 7, 2016 3:24 PM - danzca6: MK, how about something like this http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1243484
    Mar 7, 2016 3:24 PM - danzca6: not the MPCNC, but close
Mar 7, 2016 3:24 PM - Schlomo: the layers actually are very smooth, the camera shadows make them more prominent
Mar 7, 2016 3:25 PM - Schlomo: but at the start of every layer you can see for about 5-10mm a little extra bulge of plastic coming out then it smooths out
    Mar 7, 2016 3:25 PM - Schlomo: hmm
    Mar 7, 2016 3:25 PM - danzca6: looks nice schlomo
Mar 7, 2016 3:25 PM - Mike Kelly: dan i already have one designed
Mar 7, 2016 3:25 PM - Mike Kelly: my first version the fingers were too long
    Mar 7, 2016 3:26 PM - danzca6: ...go figure...hha
Mar 7, 2016 3:26 PM - Mike Kelly: that ones neat though
Mar 7, 2016 3:27 PM - danzca6: schlomo, did you see the link mike put above for helping seal your top slot on the beast?
    Mar 7, 2016 3:27 PM - danzca6: http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/122/1310/=11fuyoh
    Mar 7, 2016 3:27 PM - Schlomo: i see
Mar 7, 2016 3:27 PM - Schlomo: i have some of that stuff at work i may nab a bit of it
    Mar 7, 2016 3:28 PM - danzca6: I saw nothing...nothing
    Mar 7, 2016 3:28 PM - danzca6: thanks mike for the link
    Mar 7, 2016 3:34 PM - danzca6: dang...left my phone at work...screw it...not driving back again today
    Mar 7, 2016 3:34 PM - danzca6: hate it when that happens
Mar 7, 2016 3:43 PM - Mike Kelly: never done that but i tend to check my phone constantly
Mar 7, 2016 3:45 PM - Mike Kelly: finally made it out of the M's and into S
    Mar 7, 2016 3:45 PM - Mike Kelly: err P
Mar 7, 2016 3:49 PM - Mike Kelly: lol i wish we could reply to feedback on our home showings
Mar 7, 2016 3:49 PM - Mike Kelly: they said we need to get a storage unit to take things out of the house and it will "show soooooo much better"
    Mar 7, 2016 3:49 PM - Mike Kelly: uhm, we have 4, almost 5 offers, I think it's fine
Mar 7, 2016 3:50 PM - Mike Kelly: who knew people lived in homes they were trying to sell ?!?!?!
Mar 7, 2016 4:02 PM - jbigler1986: Lol. Some people don't live in the real world
Mar 7, 2016 4:26 PM - danzca6: Man, I didn't know mcmaster-carr is so close to me...I need to do a field trip one weekend
Mar 7, 2016 5:38 PM - Mike Kelly: Dude so jealous if you can do pickups omg

Mar 7, 2016 5:48 PM - jbigler1986: Wonder if they have a store front or you just order then pickup
Mar 7, 2016 6:15 PM - Mike Kelly: Looks like we have an offer we're accepting
Mar 7, 2016 6:15 PM - Mike Kelly: Jb if it's like the grainger here they have a front office area that you can place orders at. Then people pull items from the warehouse
    Mar 7, 2016 6:46 PM - jbigler1986: Makes sense

Mar 8, 2016 5:17 AM - danzca6: yes, they do have will call hours during the week and on saturday. I wish I knew about this sooner, but now I guess I have a good source for parts for my next project.
    Mar 8, 2016 5:31 AM - JeffTheMess: morning robonauts
    Mar 8, 2016 5:42 AM - danzca6: morning jeff
    Mar 8, 2016 5:46 AM - Bill Monroe: morning
    Mar 8, 2016 5:47 AM - danzca6: hola bill
    Mar 8, 2016 5:48 AM - danzca6: how is linuxcnc treating you
Mar 8, 2016 5:48 AM - Bill Monroe: danny.. how they hangin?
Mar 8, 2016 5:48 AM - Bill Monroe: eh it's a struggle.. cards came yesterday, PCI instead of PCIe... if it's not one thing it's another...
    Mar 8, 2016 5:49 AM - danzca6: gotta love it
    Mar 8, 2016 5:50 AM - danzca6: well, heading out for a morning of meetings...joy
Mar 8, 2016 5:51 AM - Bill Monroe: Hey! just found one of my machines on the local 80/20 website :)
Mar 8, 2016 5:51 AM - Bill Monroe: have fun Dan
Mar 8, 2016 8:18 AM - Mike Kelly: hi everyone
    Mar 8, 2016 9:01 AM - Schlomo: Hey
Mar 8, 2016 9:01 AM - Mike Kelly: quiet morning
    Mar 8, 2016 9:02 AM - Schlomo: Guess so
Mar 8, 2016 9:02 AM - Schlomo: hey i have a suggestion for your robo modular carriage
    Mar 8, 2016 9:02 AM - Schlomo: a modification
    Mar 8, 2016 9:02 AM - Mike Kelly: sure
Mar 8, 2016 9:03 AM - Schlomo: so it appears the belts slip out when printing in a heated chamber
Mar 8, 2016 9:03 AM - Schlomo: might be able to fix with ABS print, but haven't tried that yet
Mar 8, 2016 9:03 AM - Mike Kelly: ABS carriage?
    Mar 8, 2016 9:03 AM - Schlomo: no PETg
Mar 8, 2016 9:03 AM - Mike Kelly: welp there ya go
Mar 8, 2016 9:03 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah print it in ABS
Mar 8, 2016 9:04 AM - Mike Kelly: especially in your chamber
Mar 8, 2016 9:04 AM - Schlomo: the chamber is only at 40c though
Mar 8, 2016 9:04 AM - Schlomo: i was thinking about printing it in PC
Mar 8, 2016 9:04 AM - Mike Kelly: never happened to me when my chamber is at 40C+ and ABS
Mar 8, 2016 9:04 AM - Mike Kelly: PC is ideal tbh
Mar 8, 2016 9:04 AM - Schlomo: but i haven't gotten to that yet, still tackling issues with my 0.6mm nozzle on the v6
Mar 8, 2016 9:05 AM - Schlomo: im wondering if my non solid z couplers are what are causing me most my issues
Mar 8, 2016 9:05 AM - Schlomo: but im going to put a parts fan on today and see if that helps overall
Mar 8, 2016 9:08 AM - Schlomo: its wierd i can print overhangs really well but i get bad drooping on perimeters
    Mar 8, 2016 9:08 AM - Schlomo: i think a fan will help
Mar 8, 2016 9:21 AM - Mike Kelly: i typically need to see a picture to know
    Mar 8, 2016 9:21 AM - toymaker: howdy
Mar 8, 2016 9:22 AM - Schlomo: yeah i have some stuff i printed yesterday i'll put up when I get home
Mar 8, 2016 9:22 AM - Schlomo: generally just get little blobs on the outer perimeter when the nozzle starts, the end of the layer is good
Mar 8, 2016 9:23 AM - Schlomo: its like there is extra pressure in the nozzle when starting the layer
Mar 8, 2016 9:23 AM - Schlomo: for example if i extrude 10mm, it continues to ooze quickly for a good 1 second after the extrusion stops
    Mar 8, 2016 9:23 AM - Schlomo: i'll take a video
Mar 8, 2016 9:27 AM - toymaker: lol try kentucky windage....
    Mar 8, 2016 9:30 AM - Schlomo: what now?
Mar 8, 2016 9:30 AM - toymaker: i always wondered about the flowrate setting in repetier host.... shouldnt manual extrude be the same as extruding from the code
Mar 8, 2016 9:33 AM - Schlomo: it seems like it is
Mar 8, 2016 9:33 AM - WheresWaldo: Schlo, you are forgetting about retraction. You build up pressure in the nozzle by extruding and expect it to stop instantly when you stop pushing filament into that very same nozzle. It just doesn't work like that.
Mar 8, 2016 9:34 AM - Schlomo: I've tested Retraction from 2mm all the way up to 9mm with 1mm steps and the results are all about the same
Mar 8, 2016 9:34 AM - Schlomo: the sweet spot is right around 4mm of diminishing returns
Mar 8, 2016 9:34 AM - Schlomo: i have a bucket of calibration cubes lol
Mar 8, 2016 9:34 AM - WheresWaldo: This is the whole reason for having retraction settings in the first place.
    Mar 8, 2016 9:35 AM - Schlomo: Edit to correct my miss-type
Mar 8, 2016 9:36 AM - WheresWaldo: Some filaments require different amounts than others. Every filament needs testing and you do not want to retract more than the entire depth of the brass nozzle.
Mar 8, 2016 9:36 AM - WheresWaldo: E3D, IIRC says to limit retraction to 3mm or less.
Mar 8, 2016 9:37 AM - Schlomo: So the hysteresis i've found in my bowden tube was 2mm. 4mm retraction seemed to do the best to reduce the size of the blobbing but they're still prominent
Mar 8, 2016 9:37 AM - WheresWaldo: Also extruding at the cooler end of the flow temperature range will help with oozing, and can be done with most filaments.
Mar 8, 2016 9:37 AM - Mike Kelly: would be cool to make a retraction test tower or something
    Mar 8, 2016 9:38 AM - Schlomo: i can do that
Mar 8, 2016 9:38 AM - Mike Kelly: with different profiles
Mar 8, 2016 9:38 AM - WheresWaldo: With Bowden setups you will need more retraction than direct drive.
    Mar 8, 2016 9:39 AM - Schlomo: Yes i know that
Mar 8, 2016 9:39 AM - WheresWaldo: I figured you already did, but it didn't hurt to repeat it.
Mar 8, 2016 9:40 AM - Schlomo: so im contemplating going back to 0.4mm nozzle and getting that working well again
Mar 8, 2016 9:40 AM - Schlomo: and moving forward from there with those calibrations
Mar 8, 2016 9:40 AM - Mike Kelly: good plan
Mar 8, 2016 9:40 AM - Schlomo: i wanted the 0.6 for laywood, as my 0.4 has clogged many times
    Mar 8, 2016 9:40 AM - Mike Kelly: http://i.imgur.com/KZf5kWZ.gifv
    Mar 8, 2016 9:40 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah don't print laywood with a 0.4
Mar 8, 2016 9:40 AM - Schlomo: cant view imgur at work..
    Mar 8, 2016 9:41 AM - Mike Kelly: sux2bu
    Mar 8, 2016 9:41 AM - Schlomo: iknowm8
Mar 8, 2016 9:46 AM - Mike Kelly: did you see we accepted an offer?
Mar 8, 2016 9:47 AM - Schlomo: i did but you had gone offline. Congrats man! Bet its becoming more and more real
Mar 8, 2016 9:48 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah that kinda is like "oh, i guess we're moving now huh?"
Mar 8, 2016 9:48 AM - Mike Kelly: they're accepting the house as-is and won't object to anything on an inspection
Mar 8, 2016 9:48 AM - Mike Kelly: and they're paying our title insurance, so that saves us like 1k
Mar 8, 2016 9:56 AM - Schlomo: Nice. If you need help moving your printers I can pick them up in my truck.
Mar 8, 2016 9:57 AM - Schlomo: Can't guarantee they'll make it to your new place though.
Mar 8, 2016 9:57 AM - daniel871: I've had zero trouble printing Laywood with the .4mm on my i3 clone. Wonder what is different.
Mar 8, 2016 9:58 AM - daniel871: Maybe you just need to let the laywood sit in a medium-moisture environment for about a year and then print it hot.
Mar 8, 2016 9:58 AM - daniel871: 'bout the only thing special about my particular spools.
Mar 8, 2016 10:05 AM - Mike Kelly: i'll be passing through your neck of the woods schlomo
Mar 8, 2016 10:05 AM - Mike Kelly: gonna visit my family in dearborn on the way
Mar 8, 2016 10:06 AM - Schlomo: Oh yeah you'll be pretty close
Mar 8, 2016 10:06 AM - Schlomo: Im near Ann Arbor
    Mar 8, 2016 10:07 AM - Mike Kelly: yup
Mar 8, 2016 10:09 AM - Mike Kelly: going through canada we think
Mar 8, 2016 10:14 AM - Schlomo: how many breweries are you going to hit on your trip?
    Mar 8, 2016 10:15 AM - Mike Kelly: haha
Mar 8, 2016 10:20 AM - jbigler1986: Won't object to anything after an inspection? They are fucking crazy. Good for you though
Mar 8, 2016 10:20 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah i mean i don't think anythings wrong with the home but wow
Mar 8, 2016 10:21 AM - Mike Kelly: jb google is saying the distance from columbia, MO to detroit is the same time if i go below chicago, or cut through indianopolis
Mar 8, 2016 10:21 AM - Mike Kelly: any opinion on which would be better
Mar 8, 2016 10:30 AM - Mike Kelly: http://www.zillow.com/homes/14-VILLA-STREET-waltham,-ma_rb/ i like this home but OMG the wall paper
    Mar 8, 2016 10:30 AM - Mike Kelly: who wallpapers a ceiling?!
Mar 8, 2016 10:42 AM - Quest: maybe it seemed like a good idea at the time, but after it was done they where like what have we done....
Mar 8, 2016 11:05 AM - WheresWaldo: MK, so you are looking in Waltham. I spent a lot of time in Waltham since we had an office there. It is a nice suburb still very close to Boston.
Mar 8, 2016 12:02 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah walthams high on the list
Mar 8, 2016 12:02 PM - Mike Kelly: we like wakefield a lot
Mar 8, 2016 12:02 PM - Mike Kelly: and are considering outer subburbs like reading, burlington, and wilmington

    Mar 8, 2016 12:26 PM - XEMA: Anyone looking for a friend? ;)
    Mar 8, 2016 1:05 PM - XEMA: Anyone want $50?
Mar 8, 2016 1:23 PM - Reverend Ron: can anyone PLEASE tell me what the settings, in MatterControl, for PETG please? I need the offset, the temp, ect. I follwed someones advice on some forum and its printing worse than it was before. Thank you
    Mar 8, 2016 1:31 PM - daniel871: Step 1: Uninstall Matter Control
    Mar 8, 2016 1:31 PM - daniel871: Step 2: Install Cura or Slic3r or buy Simplify3d
Mar 8, 2016 1:31 PM - daniel871: Step 3: Google the settings recommended by the filament manufacturer and use them.
    Mar 8, 2016 1:34 PM - daniel871: More info: http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?threads/petg-suggestions.7821/
    Mar 8, 2016 1:36 PM - Reverend Ron: i'll try. ty
Mar 8, 2016 1:46 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah we don't like matter control and they don't seem to GAF
Mar 8, 2016 2:39 PM - jbigler1986: Nope. ROBO does what they want and it's going to end up costing them big time. Watch and see
Mar 8, 2016 3:23 PM - Geof: Matter control worked fine until indict (about6 months). Bought s3d and might havebeenthebest 150 I've ever spent
    Mar 8, 2016 3:24 PM - jbigler1986: S3D is by far the best slicer
Mar 8, 2016 3:25 PM - Geof: I don't knowing it's the best but it is my favorite. Some members do very well with the free slicers but I didn't want to spend the time :)
Mar 8, 2016 3:26 PM - jbigler1986: S3D is the best. Cura and Repetier host are good. Matter Control is the worst
    Mar 8, 2016 4:54 PM - Schlomo: Got a parts fan installed
Mar 8, 2016 4:54 PM - Schlomo: first test with ABS, enclosure and parts fan
    Mar 8, 2016 4:54 PM - Schlomo: set to 60% fan speed
Mar 8, 2016 4:54 PM - Schlomo: also lowered print speed to 33mm/s
Mar 8, 2016 5:47 PM - Schlomo: thats by far the best print
Mar 8, 2016 6:03 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah parts fan with ABS and large nozzle works good
Mar 8, 2016 6:04 PM - daniel871: Join the Bridge Nylon club Schlomo.

Mar 8, 2016 6:20 PM - Schlomo: you guys having issues printing it?
    Mar 8, 2016 6:22 PM - jbigler1986: Haven't tried it
    Mar 8, 2016 6:23 PM - Schlomo: me either
Mar 8, 2016 6:23 PM - daniel871: Yeah. Issues I plan to fix when I frankenstein my Robo back to life this weekend.
Mar 8, 2016 6:23 PM - daniel871: Figured your heated build area should do well with it.
    Mar 8, 2016 6:23 PM - Schlomo: nicee
Mar 8, 2016 6:24 PM - daniel871: The i3 extrudes it beautifully, but it cools too fast and pops off the bed because I have no temp controlled enclosure for it.
Mar 8, 2016 6:25 PM - Schlomo: so.. your putting an enclosure on the robo?
Mar 8, 2016 6:27 PM - daniel871: My robo already has one. Sealed up, too. But the power supply is shit and I'm putting a v6 on it because the stock setup is shit for flexible filaments.
    Mar 8, 2016 6:27 PM - daniel871: v6 +PT100
    Mar 8, 2016 6:29 PM - Schlomo: oh ok
Mar 8, 2016 6:29 PM - Schlomo: didnt know that
Mar 8, 2016 6:37 PM - Schlomo: what kind of parts do you use bridge for?
Mar 8, 2016 6:40 PM - jbigler1986: Daniel so you are modding the new robo or messing with the old one?
Mar 8, 2016 7:08 PM - NFOsec: Who has a source for the E3Dv6 thermistor that was rated for the hotter end, not the basic 260c screw on stud thermistor.,
Mar 8, 2016 7:09 PM - NFOsec: was experiencing variances in temps but noticed I couldn't go over 230 anymore, found it was cracked. need to replace as soon as possible.
    Mar 8, 2016 7:14 PM - toymaker: pt1000?
Mar 8, 2016 7:19 PM - NFOsec: nevermind, looks like PS posted that the newer stud thermistors were temped at 280 max so reaching 250-260 won't be a problem.
Mar 8, 2016 7:19 PM - NFOsec: just need to get ordered and in ASAP.
Mar 8, 2016 7:24 PM - NFOsec: done. *sigh* sucks to be out of commission. I guess I have to "laser". :)

Mar 9, 2016 4:11 AM - daniel871: Yeah, I'm modding the new robo JB. It suffered some immediate power supply issues and jammed the carriage up with t-glase on the very first test print, so I figured since I have to dismantle that to clean it out I might as well put the stuff I want on it after fixing the power supply issue.
    Mar 9, 2016 4:53 AM - JeffTheMess: morning robonauts
    Mar 9, 2016 5:04 AM - Bill Monroe: morning

Mar 9, 2016 5:14 AM - JeffTheMess: hows that going
Mar 9, 2016 5:15 AM - Bill Monroe: eh.. slow at the moment.. i ordred the wrong board for my computer.. got a PCI instead of PCIe
Mar 9, 2016 5:16 AM - Bill Monroe: company said they'd exchange it though
Mar 9, 2016 5:16 AM - Bill Monroe: then, there's the old "using an X4 in an X16 slot" dilemma
    Mar 9, 2016 5:18 AM - JeffTheMess: fun problems
Mar 9, 2016 5:18 AM - Bill Monroe: the machine I'm looking at charges $4300 for an automatic tool changer.. I can easily design my own but the one hurdle is how to get this software to handshake with it so, I'm educating myself
Mar 9, 2016 5:19 AM - JeffTheMess: its always good to diy it and learn
Mar 9, 2016 5:19 AM - Bill Monroe: ya.. part of the fun :)
Mar 9, 2016 5:20 AM - Bill Monroe: i made a tool changer for my router but that runs on Mach3, which has always had issues and they seem to be growing
Mar 9, 2016 5:22 AM - Bill Monroe: what you up to?
Mar 9, 2016 5:24 AM - JeffTheMess: well 3dlp is starting to come together nicely

Mar 9, 2016 5:26 AM - JeffTheMess: hopefully i can produce my tiny parts then see if my projects can start to make some head room to sell
Mar 9, 2016 5:30 AM - Bill Monroe: tiny parts for big $$
Mar 9, 2016 5:32 AM - JeffTheMess: sometimes size does matter
Mar 9, 2016 5:35 AM - Bill Monroe: uto.. 2.0 is going to "the spa" today
Mar 9, 2016 5:37 AM - JeffTheMess: thats not bad

Mar 9, 2016 8:36 AM - Mike Kelly: hi robonauts
    Mar 9, 2016 8:39 AM - daniel871: Hey MK.
Mar 9, 2016 8:40 AM - daniel871: Did anyone else get spammed by XEMA or whoever sending a bunch of links asking you to buy a robo and list him as your referral?
    Mar 9, 2016 8:40 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah
Mar 9, 2016 8:40 AM - Mike Kelly: i'll keep an eye on him
Mar 9, 2016 8:40 AM - Mike Kelly: so daniel whats the latest robo problem
Mar 9, 2016 8:41 AM - daniel871: Time to work on it, really. I keep getting late-evenings at work for rush orders or having to help family with other stuff.
Mar 9, 2016 8:41 AM - daniel871: Hoping to get a chance to work on it this weekend.
Mar 9, 2016 8:41 AM - Mike Kelly: ah yes, i'm well aware of such troubles
Mar 9, 2016 8:42 AM - Mike Kelly: i need to finish up my enclosure build video so i can sell my robo
Mar 9, 2016 8:43 AM - daniel871: The PT100 kit and v6 spare parts I ordered from E3D are currently in New York, so hopefully that means they'll be here by Friday.

    Mar 9, 2016 8:46 AM - daniel871: Ok.
    Mar 9, 2016 8:47 AM - Mike Kelly: i have many opinions
Mar 9, 2016 8:47 AM - BryZad: Bb-8 frame cage will be a hammered steal color what do you guys thing the internal drive system color would be
    Mar 9, 2016 8:47 AM - Mike Kelly: black
Mar 9, 2016 8:47 AM - daniel871: Is said drive system typically exposed?
Mar 9, 2016 8:48 AM - BryZad: Nope going to be totally closed in the ball
Mar 9, 2016 8:48 AM - daniel871: Then it can be whatever you have available. :p
Mar 9, 2016 8:49 AM - daniel871: Also, I asked because I paid a lot less attention to BB-8 than I did to the fact that C3P0 had Venom Snake's prosthetic arm.
Mar 9, 2016 8:50 AM - BryZad: I know just don't want it to be half assed
    Mar 9, 2016 8:50 AM - BryZad: Lol
Mar 9, 2016 9:02 AM - daniel871: Someone just pointed out to me that The Venture Brothers is a 13 year old show and that there have been people born since it started that are probably old enough to start understanding some of the jokes.
Mar 9, 2016 9:04 AM - Mike Kelly: holy crap
    Mar 9, 2016 9:04 AM - Mike Kelly: i never considered that
Mar 9, 2016 9:05 AM - Mike Kelly: god that show takes so long to make
Mar 9, 2016 9:05 AM - daniel871: The current season has been the best one yet so far.
Mar 9, 2016 9:05 AM - Mike Kelly: i'm not sure VB has a bad episode
    Mar 9, 2016 9:05 AM - Mike Kelly: it's just so quality
Mar 9, 2016 9:06 AM - daniel871: By that I mean I get more of the jokes the first time watching an episode than I did in earlier seasons.
Mar 9, 2016 9:06 AM - daniel871: The whole Brock/Warianna relationship thing is pretty great.
    Mar 9, 2016 9:07 AM - Mike Kelly: i haven't had a chance to watch last 2 episodes
Mar 9, 2016 9:07 AM - Mike Kelly: need to do that tonight i think
Mar 9, 2016 9:07 AM - Mike Kelly: now that we can finally be home
Mar 9, 2016 9:09 AM - daniel871: Oh man, the voice actors for the side characters are amazing in the 2nd to last episode. Haven't seen last weeks yet because it hasn't been posted to my season pass yet.
    Mar 9, 2016 9:09 AM - daniel871: For some dumb reason.
Mar 9, 2016 9:34 AM - daniel871: I see this floating around on FB and all I can think is "Nice try, pal." http://i.imgur.com/pPFB87f.jpg

    Mar 9, 2016 9:38 AM - Mike Kelly: man i wish i didn't lose my PETg settings
Mar 9, 2016 9:43 AM - AutopsyTurvy: ... I really need to catch up on that show.
Mar 9, 2016 9:51 AM - Mike Kelly: damn just broke a freaking fan blade when my filament hit it
    Mar 9, 2016 9:51 AM - Mike Kelly: wtf
    Mar 9, 2016 9:53 AM - daniel871: Which fan?
Mar 9, 2016 9:56 AM - Mike Kelly: on my rep2, the heatsink fan
Mar 9, 2016 9:56 AM - Mike Kelly: it still works so i'll just run it till it dies
Mar 9, 2016 9:56 AM - Mike Kelly: but man, watching 3d printers do lettering is the most hypnotizing thing
Mar 9, 2016 9:58 AM - daniel871: I got a laugh out of my cousin saying that the i3 sounds like a TV show police siren when printing circles.
Mar 9, 2016 10:39 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Psh, the Raspberry Pi 3 has been out like a whole week and I'm not finding enclosures for it yet. *glares at Thingiverse* Buncha slackers.
    Mar 9, 2016 10:42 AM - Bill Monroe: boog-eh-tah
Mar 9, 2016 10:43 AM - Mike Kelly: topsy doesn't the 3 have identical form factor to the 2
Mar 9, 2016 10:45 AM - AutopsyTurvy: I have no idea. There's an official case for the 3 but idk if that means it's different.
    Mar 9, 2016 10:45 AM - AutopsyTurvy: It's definitely different than 1
Mar 9, 2016 10:48 AM - Schlomo: wtf my print just randomly stopped
Mar 9, 2016 11:14 AM - daniel871: The pi3 has the same form factor as the pi2, AT.
Mar 9, 2016 11:16 AM - daniel871: Also, holy LOL this is some amazing schadenfreude. https://twitter.com/Scout_Finch/status/707606621992538112/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc^tfw
Mar 9, 2016 11:48 AM - Mike Kelly: good for the cheese makers at least
Mar 9, 2016 11:49 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Thanks ya'll. When my current bit of armor is done printing I'll print up an enclosure. Mr. Turvy got a Pi3 so I can do the Octoprint thing again. :)
Mar 9, 2016 12:03 PM - daniel871: I'm curious how well the built-in Wifi/Bluetooth works along with the additional processing power (wonder how well the webcam view will run while a program is actively running now).
Mar 9, 2016 12:39 PM - WheresWaldo: Some interesting information direct from the OctoPrint developers regarding the rPi3. Their opinion is if you are using an rPi the 3 is worthwhile, if already using n rPi2 not so much. Python only uses one core and you are still running a 32 bit OS, their estimate is about a 10% performance boost overall. The built in WiFi is good as that eliminates an issue of dongles that don't work.
Mar 9, 2016 12:45 PM - Bill Monroe: I tried it.. yanked it out a few days later
Mar 9, 2016 12:46 PM - Bill Monroe: video is inferior..
    Mar 9, 2016 12:50 PM - daniel871: Anyone else seen this?
    Mar 9, 2016 12:50 PM - daniel871: The fun starts about 3 minutes in.
Mar 9, 2016 12:51 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah that video is classic
Mar 9, 2016 12:51 PM - Mike Kelly: fucking klaus

Mar 9, 2016 5:29 PM - Mike Glass: Yea you caught me, im cutting 1/4 acrylic now for my led bases.
Mar 9, 2016 5:29 PM - Mike Glass: so much funner to build with, 1000 time faster then 3d printing.
Mar 9, 2016 5:31 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah I don't use my printer much. Mostly cnc. Need a laser though
Mar 9, 2016 5:34 PM - Mike Glass: They are super fun, so may things you can use it on, I have been doing limestone for backsplashes.
    Mar 9, 2016 5:34 PM - jbigler1986: Damn
    Mar 9, 2016 5:34 PM - Mike Glass: pay $3 for a 4x12 and sell for $25
Mar 9, 2016 5:35 PM - jbigler1986: Trying to decide if I want to do the cheap $400 8x12 ones to start or just go right in and get a bigger one
Mar 9, 2016 5:35 PM - Mike Glass: Well your crafty, so I would go with the biggest you can afford, I paid for mine in 3 months
    Mar 9, 2016 5:35 PM - jbigler1986: 8x12 just seems way to small
    Mar 9, 2016 5:36 PM - Mike Glass: but x-mas was a big help
    Mar 9, 2016 5:36 PM - jbigler1986: Was that price with shipping?

Mar 9, 2016 5:38 PM - Mike Glass: although the company sucks, I had a bad power supply and they wanted $50 for shipping a new one, I bought one for $20 and told them to eff off.
Mar 9, 2016 5:38 PM - Mike Glass: and it has a 3 year warranty.. wtf oh well im mechanicaly inclined so no biggie
    Mar 9, 2016 5:39 PM - jim3Dbot: Hey MG & JB

Mar 9, 2016 5:48 PM - jim3Dbot: I design & manufacture prototypes... an order from a company in texas that remodels large jets for the wealthy....I supplied him with 150 motorized window shades for the jets windows.
Mar 9, 2016 5:48 PM - Mike Glass: like the plastic shades in jets?
Mar 9, 2016 5:50 PM - jim3Dbot: Yes, push a rocker switch & the blind either goes Up/Dwn...DC motor with steering diodes & limits..motor & elect. slides into alum. extrusion head rail

Mar 9, 2016 5:53 PM - Schlomo: shortening my bowden by 5" did a significant difference
Mar 9, 2016 5:54 PM - jim3Dbot: JB, my son has asked me also, what laser did the floppies.....I told him a fellow from mo. with I think a 40watt cutter......look what nofo & MG started
    Mar 9, 2016 5:55 PM - jim3Dbot: JB, looks like the bigger 50watters are like $1,500.....ebay

Mar 10, 2016 9:27 AM - Mike Kelly: heh yeah
Mar 10, 2016 9:27 AM - Mike Kelly: new and more interesting problems
Mar 10, 2016 9:27 AM - Mike Kelly: tomorrow is my last day
Mar 10, 2016 9:27 AM - Mike Kelly: i'm going to make an appearance here in a bit
Mar 10, 2016 9:28 AM - JeffTheMess: Get a marching band when you leave
    Mar 10, 2016 9:28 AM - Mike Kelly: haha
Mar 10, 2016 9:28 AM - Mike Kelly: i'll probably just pull an irish goodbye
Mar 10, 2016 9:28 AM - Mike Kelly: i'm no good with goodbyes
Mar 10, 2016 9:39 AM - donhuevo: what about their printer? Will you get to keep that in the divorce?
Mar 10, 2016 10:36 AM - daniel871: Okay, so they finally gave me a reason to care about seeing the next Captain America movie.

    Mar 10, 2016 10:52 AM - WheresWaldo: Hey everyone.
    Mar 10, 2016 11:00 AM - Schlomo: Hey waldo
    Mar 10, 2016 11:00 AM - WheresWaldo: Slo. how's it going?
    Mar 10, 2016 11:00 AM - Schlomo: Good
Mar 10, 2016 11:00 AM - Schlomo: Finally got the Beast printing really well
Mar 10, 2016 11:01 AM - Schlomo: had to do 2 things, first was add a parts fan for ABS, second was to shorten my bowden tube by 5"
Mar 10, 2016 11:01 AM - Schlomo: the second of those was the biggest impact
Mar 10, 2016 11:01 AM - WheresWaldo: I'm here scratching my head trying to reconcile a few things in Marlin. Good to hear your printer is up and running.
Mar 10, 2016 11:07 AM - daniel871: Apparently I'm not the only one with concerns about how the Mesh Bed Leveling moves from one point to the next. https://github.com/MarlinFirmware/Marlin/wiki/Manual-bed-leveling---mesh-bed-leveling
    Mar 10, 2016 11:08 AM - daniel871: Very last paragraph.
Mar 10, 2016 11:11 AM - WheresWaldo: I read that, and in the Robo's case the endstop is actually below 0 so a value of 4 makes no sense at all. Besides it seems very arbitrary.
Mar 10, 2016 11:12 AM - WheresWaldo: Besides he is talking about lifting the probe between moves and I think they patched this already.
Mar 10, 2016 11:13 AM - WheresWaldo: I don't care about the lift between moves I care that Marlin thinks that the endstop is at 4mm when in my particular machine with my switches the endstop is actually at -0.6 mm.
Mar 10, 2016 11:14 AM - WheresWaldo: I see his point about the lift between points, but that is just an inconvenience not an issue.
Mar 10, 2016 11:16 AM - WheresWaldo: I'm going to change that line to read 0 and see if I can really fuck up my machine.
Mar 10, 2016 11:29 AM - daniel871: The lift between probes was patched for mesh leveling?
    Mar 10, 2016 11:29 AM - daniel871: Since RC3?
Mar 10, 2016 11:29 AM - daniel871: Sorry, was on the phone with someone at work.
Mar 10, 2016 11:43 AM - WheresWaldo: I believe it is patched in RCBugFix
    Mar 10, 2016 11:44 AM - WheresWaldo: Like I mentioned I don't care about that, I care that Marlin thinks Z4 is physically Z0
Mar 10, 2016 11:48 AM - daniel871: Yeah, that Z value stuff was nonsense to me because it meant you were telling the firmware to allow that much travel below the endstop trigger.
Mar 10, 2016 11:48 AM - daniel871: (so I left it at zero in the firmware I flashed off of RC3)
Mar 10, 2016 11:49 AM - daniel871: Was still allowed to move the nozzle, but it seemed more "correct" or "accurate" to be locating the bed relative to the endstop trigger vs. some random 4mm offset.
Mar 10, 2016 11:49 AM - WheresWaldo: Yeah, their comment on that line makes no sense whatsoever. I was scared and tried it at 0.01 instead of just 0, and it still worked out to about .6 for most of the bed except the the warp I have at the right rear of the glass.
Mar 10, 2016 11:49 AM - daniel871: So I'm thinking that there should really be an M851 still active or something, somehow, and just hope your bed isn't so warped that moving around at the endstop + offset level when touching off won't break the glass.

Mar 10, 2016 11:50 AM - WheresWaldo: I am going to check that on GITHUB
Mar 10, 2016 11:52 AM - WheresWaldo: I do like that you can complete the process from a terminal, So I can actually do it from OctoPrint and not just from the LCD.
Mar 10, 2016 11:52 AM - daniel871: Seems like it shouldn't be too terribly difficult to merge the mesh generating portion of mesh bed leveling into the probing script for the ABL.
Mar 10, 2016 11:53 AM - daniel871: Or some kind of comparison of the scripts so that ABL calls up the mesh generating scripts after probing bed locations and storing the Z locations under the various G29 S0-Swhatever values for it.
Mar 10, 2016 11:59 AM - WheresWaldo: So I checked the commits for RCBugFix and it still doesn't raise the nozzle between probes. I am going to check to see if M851 still works as When I get my MESH numbers they pretty much match what I already had M851 set to (my bed is almost perfectly parallel with the nozzle except for the right rear corner).
Mar 10, 2016 12:00 PM - daniel871: I wonder if the mesh bed leveling script needs to have M851 inserted between the G28 and G29 S0 codes.
Mar 10, 2016 12:08 PM - WheresWaldo: I don't see M851 working. I am up and running but when I issue M851 Z0.6 in terminal, Marlin responds ok. Then I expect to see Z0.6 when I issue M851 all by itself and Marlin just responds ok.
    Mar 10, 2016 12:39 PM - daniel871: Hm.
    Mar 10, 2016 12:39 PM - daniel871: It's listed under the mesh bed leveling section in configuration_store.cpp
    Mar 10, 2016 12:39 PM - daniel871: Line 42.

Mar 11, 2016 3:36 AM - AutopsyTurvy: For once it's actually quiet - nothing to print at the moment, just lots of sewing to do. :D

Mar 11, 2016 5:36 AM - daniel871: Huh. Apparently there is an Arduino glitch in certain Marlin firmwares (might explain why people are having to turn up the power on their steppers after updating firmwares).

Mar 11, 2016 6:31 AM - Bill Monroe: hey Dan
    Mar 11, 2016 6:32 AM - danzca6: Hey Bill...how are things in CA
Mar 11, 2016 6:32 AM - Bill Monroe: pretty OK.. looks like more rain coming.. how about you?
Mar 11, 2016 6:33 AM - danzca6: rain is always good for a state suffering drought. Just getting ready for our trip next week
Mar 11, 2016 6:33 AM - danzca6: heading to the bahamas to get away for awhile
Mar 11, 2016 6:33 AM - Bill Monroe: i think it's safe to say the drought is not a concern anymore
Mar 11, 2016 6:34 AM - Bill Monroe: El Nino is here.. lakes level rising, ski resorts are open...

Mar 11, 2016 6:36 AM - danzca6: his scout troop is looking at doing sailing this summer in FL, but he isn't old enough yet to go with
    Mar 11, 2016 6:37 AM - Bill Monroe: ahh scouts :)

Mar 11, 2016 6:38 AM - Bill Monroe: the scouts have a permanent boat facility in the bay here... sabots to hobie cats to jetskis
Mar 11, 2016 6:38 AM - danzca6: it's an organization that has gotten some bad press lately, but I still see a lot of value for kids to go through it. Learn a lot of life leasons

Mar 11, 2016 6:41 AM - Bill Monroe: here the school system ejected all the boy scouts from using school auditorims for meeting (the school principals are infested with uhhh.. "alternative lifestlye perveyors")
Mar 11, 2016 6:42 AM - Bill Monroe: the rest of the community came to the rescue.. now they're stronger than ever
Mar 11, 2016 6:43 AM - danzca6: Yeah, I'm glad my church still allows them to use our building and property for their meetings and some events. Some frowned on it, but they do so much for the church. It's a nice outreach as well

Mar 11, 2016 6:43 AM - WheresWaldo: Daniel that post is from summer 2015, it should not be an issue in 1.1.0 the code looks like it resets if overrun, but I could be wrong.

Mar 11, 2016 6:45 AM - danzca6: so WW, was that issue part of the stock Robo version
Mar 11, 2016 6:45 AM - Bill Monroe: any time some jr high kid with enough knowledge to be dangerous can get to come code.. nothing can be taken for granted
Mar 11, 2016 6:46 AM - WheresWaldo: I don't know, I gave up on Stock Robo so long ago that I just never look at it anymore.
Mar 11, 2016 6:46 AM - Bill Monroe: I ended up going through one of the marlin flavors and stripped out/simplified it for my machine
Mar 11, 2016 6:47 AM - WheresWaldo: Bill that is just too much work and besides now you just comment out the defines you don't need/want is easier.
Mar 11, 2016 6:47 AM - Bill Monroe: got rid of the magic numbers, unneeded includes, inefficient routines...
    Mar 11, 2016 6:47 AM - Bill Monroe: i'll bet it's less than 1/3 the size now
Mar 11, 2016 6:48 AM - WheresWaldo: Firmware size is not Marlin's issue, it's RAM usage that is killing it moving forward.
Mar 11, 2016 6:48 AM - Bill Monroe: sorry.. i dont like code that's not needed.. commenting isnt enough. i'll never need it so, it's gone
Mar 11, 2016 6:49 AM - Bill Monroe: 1/3 wasnt meant to express quality, just the signidicance of the changes
Mar 11, 2016 6:49 AM - WheresWaldo: All well and good, and probably a good exercise for someone interested in coding, but still not really Marlin's issue moving forward.
Mar 11, 2016 6:50 AM - Bill Monroe: you should have heard the reaction when the pro firmware writers I used to work with saw it.. priceless
    Mar 11, 2016 6:50 AM - JeffTheMess: morning robonauts...Happy Friday
    Mar 11, 2016 6:50 AM - Bill Monroe: Jeff
    Mar 11, 2016 6:50 AM - danzca6: morning Jeff
Mar 11, 2016 6:50 AM - WheresWaldo: What I really hope Robo does, is abandon RAMPS entirely and go something more towards Smoothie .
Mar 11, 2016 6:50 AM - JeffTheMess: what are we doing today
Mar 11, 2016 6:51 AM - Bill Monroe: they will if it's cheaper.. it not, forget it
Mar 11, 2016 6:51 AM - danzca6: WW, getting my shipment of bronze bushings in tonight...hope to have the Y upgraded when I get back from vacation
Mar 11, 2016 6:51 AM - Bill Monroe: just working jeff.. then a weekend of flying
Mar 11, 2016 6:51 AM - WheresWaldo: Trying to see why I can't get the latest RCBugFix to work on my Robo. Fixing the computer my daughter just put together that won't turn on, Building Cat5 cables then taking my wife to the airport.
Mar 11, 2016 6:52 AM - danzca6: new meaning to the phrase "The weekends just fly by"
Mar 11, 2016 6:52 AM - WheresWaldo: Cool Dan, you will see a marked decrease in the noise level.
    Mar 11, 2016 6:52 AM - JeffTheMess: sounds fun
Mar 11, 2016 6:53 AM - danzca6: I am hoping so. Had a bearing go bad and decided it was time to get-r-done
Mar 11, 2016 6:53 AM - danzca6: of course I won't be far from ultibots Sunday and could have just picked them up to save shipping
Mar 11, 2016 6:54 AM - WheresWaldo: It took a few prints but the bushings are super smooth now and they are just a dB or two quieter than at first. The only bearings I haven't replaced are the Z axis ones.
    Mar 11, 2016 6:55 AM - danzca6: like you said before, the Z doesn't move much compared to the X and Y
Mar 11, 2016 6:57 AM - WheresWaldo: One thing I noticed on the X axis. I don't believe Robo has very good QA or design chops when it comes to injection molding. I will swear that the rail spacing on the right and left idler arms do not match perfectly.
Mar 11, 2016 6:57 AM - WheresWaldo: It does lead to some binding on the extreme left edge of my printer.
Mar 11, 2016 6:57 AM - danzca6: I'll be replacing those as part of an old project I haven't finished yet
Mar 11, 2016 6:58 AM - danzca6: I designed new ones to have two smooth rods on each side...just to see what it would do
Mar 11, 2016 6:59 AM - WheresWaldo: Printed arms will likely be better than the OEM injection molded ones. Just like their very poor quality Y axis tensioner that seem to all break or they Y axis pillow blocks that all eventually crack.
Mar 11, 2016 7:00 AM - danzca6: I heard from AxisLab that they have gone to nylon parts (some) in the +PLUS
Mar 11, 2016 7:00 AM - danzca6: maybe that will help over injection molded ABS
Mar 11, 2016 7:01 AM - Bill Monroe: none of the original parts on my robo have failed or even show signs of failing
Mar 11, 2016 7:02 AM - WheresWaldo: Most people don't realise how hard ABS is to injection mold. You have to introduce "errors" in the mold so parts come out dimensionally correct in normal use.
Mar 11, 2016 7:03 AM - danzca6: seems to be a wave of QC issues with Robo. some are rock solid, some are doa, and then there are others in between
Mar 11, 2016 7:03 AM - WheresWaldo: Bill, you're lucky then. I had broken parts in the box as well as both pillow blocks that cracked. Also the hinge on the Greg's Wade broke at the pivot point.
Mar 11, 2016 7:04 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, I gotta belive a lot of people are basically abusing their machines in the name of making "improvements"
Mar 11, 2016 7:04 AM - Bill Monroe: mine is the same as all others of its era.. nothing special
    Mar 11, 2016 7:04 AM - danzca6: <- guilty
Mar 11, 2016 7:04 AM - Bill Monroe: i dont think lunk has anything to do with it
Mar 11, 2016 7:04 AM - WheresWaldo: What are you trying to say, just spill...
    Mar 11, 2016 7:04 AM - Bill Monroe: or luck either :)
Mar 11, 2016 7:06 AM - WheresWaldo: I will say with the exception of replacing the lead screws, all the other "upgrades" I did came after the original part broke or cracked. Had to find a better replacement.
Mar 11, 2016 7:07 AM - Bill Monroe: i tried a bunch of stuff when I got it.. in the end it's back to the way it was shipped.. although I did give the bearings my usual super-clean and lube tratment
Mar 11, 2016 7:07 AM - Bill Monroe: oh wait, I did put new zscrews in it before robo started doing that
Mar 11, 2016 7:08 AM - WheresWaldo: Why replace something that is marginally designed with the same part that will likely fail in the same manner.
Mar 11, 2016 7:08 AM - danzca6: I think that bit of precautionary treatment helped a lot bill
Mar 11, 2016 7:08 AM - Bill Monroe: I agree.. it long ago became my practice even with new bearings
Mar 11, 2016 7:09 AM - danzca6: I know that MG has had all his plastic bits go the hell recently...I think his is held together with super glue now
    Mar 11, 2016 7:10 AM - danzca6: That's why I printed a lot of new parts just in case
Mar 11, 2016 7:10 AM - danzca6: you should put a video on your blog on how you prep your bearings Bill
Mar 11, 2016 7:11 AM - Bill Monroe: well, time for me to go continue making a cholostomy bag machine :)
Mar 11, 2016 7:11 AM - danzca6: it's a shitty job, but some one has to do it
Mar 11, 2016 7:11 AM - WheresWaldo: So I look at it this way. We can use bearings as an example. The Robo bearings are of questionable quality, that is a generalized but probably very accurate assessment. New super quality bearings, while better, may not provide a measurable increase in precision or performance, so a new design might be advantageous, that is how I approached all the upgrades I have posted here.
    Mar 11, 2016 7:11 AM - danzca6: take it easy Bill

Mar 11, 2016 9:56 AM - Mike Kelly: lol someone signed up with the account name "I need help"
Mar 11, 2016 9:57 AM - JeffTheMess: lol that person will be looking for you
Mar 11, 2016 10:05 AM - Mike Kelly: HR person is now a half hour late for my exit interview
    Mar 11, 2016 10:08 AM - JeffTheMess: just don't hold your breath
Mar 11, 2016 10:15 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah i'm not sure where sheis
Mar 11, 2016 10:27 AM - Mike Kelly: almost an hour late now
Mar 11, 2016 10:28 AM - Schlomo: guess you cant quit
    Mar 11, 2016 10:28 AM - Mike Kelly: haha
Mar 11, 2016 10:49 AM - Mike Kelly: https://plus.google.com/u/1/photos/...6260835518915258722&oid=109171814945141209683 god damn that thing is tiny
Mar 11, 2016 10:52 AM - JeffTheMess: wonder if you can do better jobs with smaller nozzles
Mar 11, 2016 10:53 AM - Mike Kelly: you can but you need to print slower
Mar 11, 2016 10:54 AM - Mike Kelly: so prints take forever
Mar 11, 2016 11:08 AM - daniel871: HR person is going to come in with keylogger reports of all the time you spend on the internet and quitting is going to turn into being fired. :p
    Mar 11, 2016 11:09 AM - Mike Kelly: lmao
    Mar 11, 2016 11:09 AM - daniel871: Also, I'm starting to hate Fridays.
Mar 11, 2016 11:09 AM - Mike Kelly: then i'll show them the log of the hundreds of hours solidworks was frozen
Mar 11, 2016 11:09 AM - daniel871: Every Friday for the last couple months has been last-minute everyone has to stay until 8-9pm working on stuff that has to ship for Saturday morning delivery somewhere.
Mar 11, 2016 11:10 AM - daniel871: "Maybe if you spent less time browsing the internet your computer wouldn't lock up"
Mar 11, 2016 11:10 AM - daniel871: Said by someone that has to get IT to clean the pornsite adware off their computer every other week.
    Mar 11, 2016 12:53 PM - Mike Kelly: haha
Mar 11, 2016 12:59 PM - daniel871: Mesh bed leveling is going to drive Waldo insane.
Mar 11, 2016 1:05 PM - daniel871: It bugs me that there isn't any sort of retraction off of the homing switch for touching the bed, but since you theoretically only have to run it once and send an M500 on the terminal after it's done, it isn't too big of a deal breaker, but I can see it freaking someone out if they think the glass is about to snap.
Mar 11, 2016 3:16 PM - WheresWaldo: Yes because Marlin's implementation is so stupid and incomplete.
Mar 11, 2016 3:18 PM - WheresWaldo: Developed by one guy with only one printer to test in a single mechanical arrangement, they merged into the code as if that was all that was needed.
Mar 11, 2016 3:19 PM - WheresWaldo: That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Mar 11, 2016 3:28 PM - Mike Kelly: marlin's just zis firmware, ya know?
    Mar 11, 2016 3:29 PM - Mike Kelly: there's a quote I like "If it's stupid and it works, it's not stupid"
    Mar 11, 2016 3:29 PM - Mike Kelly: murphy's law apparently
Mar 11, 2016 3:39 PM - WheresWaldo: Works but just barely
Mar 11, 2016 3:40 PM - WheresWaldo: TBH I don't care, I just don't want to answer a bunch of questions about it when I enable it in the next RC for the Robo
Mar 11, 2016 3:40 PM - WheresWaldo: It does work much better than ABL
Mar 11, 2016 3:44 PM - WheresWaldo: Right now my bigger issue is that it seems to ignore M851.
Mar 11, 2016 3:50 PM - Mike Kelly: i mean it's no PLC control system, but it does what we need it to
Mar 11, 2016 3:50 PM - WheresWaldo: Do you happen to have your BigBox set up?
Mar 11, 2016 3:51 PM - Mike Kelly: what do you need M851 for?
Mar 11, 2016 3:52 PM - Mike Kelly: yup bigbox is up
Mar 11, 2016 3:53 PM - WheresWaldo: To set the offset, it is still supposed to work, I want to adjust it layer 1 so it is dimensionally accurate.
Mar 11, 2016 3:53 PM - Mike Kelly: you shouldn't need an offset though?
Mar 11, 2016 3:53 PM - Mike Kelly: that's why you do the probing routine
Mar 11, 2016 3:54 PM - WheresWaldo: Maybe I should just make the paper gauge looser during the Mesh procedure. I assume that would work.
Mar 11, 2016 3:55 PM - WheresWaldo: I must have been too tight, as my .25 mm layer 1 was coming out at .2 mm
    Mar 11, 2016 4:22 PM - Mike Kelly: that's asking a lot from a 3d printer in general
Mar 11, 2016 4:27 PM - WheresWaldo: But actually totally doable even with Robos.
Mar 11, 2016 4:28 PM - WheresWaldo: Before all this Mesh stuff I was down to around 0.02 except for where my warp on the bed is.
Mar 11, 2016 4:29 PM - WheresWaldo: Of course the Mesh eliminates the effect of the warped bed completely.
Mar 11, 2016 4:57 PM - daniel871: Seems like if you want it that tight you screw up your flatness tolerances.
Mar 11, 2016 4:57 PM - daniel871: Or are we not looking at geotolerances yet?
Mar 11, 2016 5:00 PM - WheresWaldo: My bed is so close to parallel to the X axis as is, I don't actually need to level at all. If it weren't for the tiny warp on the back right of the bed I could forgo it completely.
Mar 11, 2016 5:01 PM - WheresWaldo: I usually use the robo to print test pieces so I need as much dimensional accuracy as I can get, most of my stuff goes immediately into the recycle bin after printing.
Mar 11, 2016 5:03 PM - WheresWaldo: The pieces tend to be smaller and I can print them all in the front left corner of the bed, since I upgraded the heater with a more appropriate sized one I don't have temp issues anymore when printing off-center.
Mar 11, 2016 5:05 PM - WheresWaldo: But now with the Mesh stuff I can print the entire bed for those few times I am printing something big. Like this headphone stand http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1225042

    Mar 12, 2016 10:18 AM - daniel871: Well, PT100 didn't arrive so I cleaned the hexagon, updated z-steps to 800, re-ran mesh leveling and running a test ABS print.

Mar 14, 2016 at 4:23 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Well, I can confirm that Glitter Printing thing is A) A bad idea and B) Makes a huge damn mess
Mar 14, 2016 at 4:23 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Especially if you forget that the fan comes on after the first layer and it blows glitter EVERYWHERE
Mar 14, 2016 at 4:23 AM - AutopsyTurvy: On the plus side, my Robo is now EXTREMELY SPARKLY
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:12 AM - Bill Monroe: morning

Mar 14, 2016 at 5:24 AM - JeffTheMess: nice, pretty god finished a project for the wife this weekend, and is satisfied
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:24 AM - Bill Monroe: always a good thing
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:26 AM - Bill Monroe: next on my honeydew list is replacing one of the swamp coolers
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:26 AM - JeffTheMess: good ol' honeydews
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:27 AM - Bill Monroe: heh I dont mind it.. she's real good at showing her appreciation
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:28 AM - Bill Monroe: and she's never asked me to do anything that wasnt needing to be done
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:28 AM - JeffTheMess: gotta get to give sometimes
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:28 AM - Bill Monroe: oh, by the way, dont forget to have some PI today
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:29 AM - JeffTheMess: ah yes, the internet will break pi today
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:34 AM - JeffTheMess: are you doing a pi print today
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:45 AM - Bill Monroe: nope.. but I've got some chedder-topped apple pie for lunch :)
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:49 AM - JeffTheMess: close enough
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:56 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Bah, stupid brittle old filament. I can't wait till I use up my old stash of filament and can buy fresh stuff again
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:57 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Keeps snapping.
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:57 AM - JeffTheMess: thats why i buy one or two rolls at a times
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:58 AM - Bill Monroe: ive got some stuff thats well over a year old.. not brittle.
    Mar 14, 2016 at 5:59 AM - JeffTheMess: hatchbox
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:59 AM - Bill Monroe: yup.. kept in a cool place
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:59 AM - Bill Monroe: in a sealed ziplock
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:02 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Mine's been stored in a sealed box with dessicant. Some of it is fine but some... not so much.
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:03 AM - JeffTheMess: i leave it in the box it came in always
    Mar 14, 2016 at 6:04 AM - Bill Monroe: <hi5>
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:07 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Mine just comes shrinkwrapped on rolls and I leave them wrapped till I use them. Just seems to be certain colours. I think I might look for a different supplier next time I go ordering. :\
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:08 AM - JeffTheMess: what brand you use?
    Mar 14, 2016 at 6:09 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Plastic2print
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:10 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Stuff's usually fine when fresh though their Ultimate colours, the PLA actually swells a little when heated slightly, resulting in clogs, so that's fun.
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:10 AM - Bill Monroe: sounds like a third world product
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:10 AM - AutopsyTurvy: No, they're local, in Amsterdam, and I've been to their offices. Just maybe not great with the quality control.
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:11 AM - JeffTheMess: lucky you i wish hatch box was local
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:11 AM - JeffTheMess: or any filament was local
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:11 AM - Bill Monroe: hatchbox is easy with amazon
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:12 AM - JeffTheMess: i know but one day i hope to just go to a store and buy it instead of waiting
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:12 AM - Bill Monroe: no Fry's close by?
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:12 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Plastic2print shares a space with a chocolate company - one side's printers and filament, the other side's chocolate. Smells heavenly, and there's a printer that prints chocolate right in the middle.
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:12 AM - AutopsyTurvy: ... this may have influenced my decision to buy from them on more than one occasion.
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:24 AM - JeffTheMess: nope nothing, i feel lonely in the world of 3dp out here lol
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:25 AM - Bill Monroe: where are you?
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:26 AM - JeffTheMess: North Carolina...back in New york it was a bit easier with makerbot in town selling filament
    Mar 14, 2016 at 6:26 AM - Bill Monroe: i love NC
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:28 AM - AutopsyTurvy: ... in light of the glittersplosion, I have decided to do the unthinkable and remove the glass to clean it.
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:28 AM - JeffTheMess: i guess its ok if you know what to do, if not its kind of boring
    Mar 14, 2016 at 6:28 AM - Bill Monroe: Kittyhawk :)
    Mar 14, 2016 at 6:28 AM - toymaker: fayetteville
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:29 AM - JeffTheMess: im in raleigh
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:29 AM - Bill Monroe: nice, just north of Mayberry :)
    Mar 14, 2016 at 6:30 AM - JeffTheMess: yep
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:30 AM - toymaker: bill, do u know of any high precision, repeat ability homing switches?
    Mar 14, 2016 at 6:30 AM - JeffTheMess: [IMG]
    Mar 14, 2016 at 6:31 AM - Bill Monroe: would a package with a 27" monitor weigh 17 pounds?
    Mar 14, 2016 at 6:34 AM - toymaker: yes
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:35 AM - Bill Monroe: i dunno.. my 23" is only 4.5 pounds by itself.. 10+ pounds of cardboard box seems excessive
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:36 AM - Bill Monroe: that must be it though - a package coming UPS.
    Mar 14, 2016 at 6:37 AM - JeffTheMess: excited for a package
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:37 AM - Bill Monroe: the only other thing I remember ordering is a tool holder for the mill. it's heavier but I dount it would be here that fast
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:38 AM - Bill Monroe: excited? well happy to get it at least. I just wish UPS and USPS would tell you who shipped it on their tracking sites
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:39 AM - JeffTheMess: they want you to be surprised
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:39 AM - Bill Monroe: ok, if you say so :)
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:40 AM - JeffTheMess: (or being lazy)
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:42 AM - Bill Monroe: BAHAhahahaha
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:42 AM - Bill Monroe: i just got home.. 2.0 left me a prescription bottle filled with M&M minis
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:43 AM - JeffTheMess: just don't be an addict
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:43 AM - Bill Monroe: too late
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:44 AM - Bill Monroe: she was teasing me yesterday about not being able to stop eating them and calling me an addict.. i told her the doctor precribed them for me so I'd feel better
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:44 AM - JeffTheMess: well that makes it better
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:46 AM - Bill Monroe: that woman is one-of-a-kind
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:46 AM - JeffTheMess: thats why you put a ring on it
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:46 AM - Bill Monroe: you bet I did
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:47 AM - Bill Monroe: she's doing something new.. working for a company that does corporate presentations
    Mar 14, 2016 at 6:47 AM - JeffTheMess: nice
    Mar 14, 2016 at 6:47 AM - JeffTheMess: a good thing right
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:48 AM - Bill Monroe: should be
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:48 AM - Bill Monroe: she's suppoed to greet people and help them get seated, then be something of a Vanna White type on stage during the presentation
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:50 AM - JeffTheMess: pretty good
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:51 AM - Bill Monroe: they're paying her quite well, good plane tix and a decent hotel.. could work out
    Mar 14, 2016 at 6:52 AM - JeffTheMess: That's always good
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:54 AM - Bill Monroe: think i'll design and print a mount to put my sports cam on my RC plane
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:59 AM - JeffTheMess: I need to go fly my quad weather is finally getting good
Mar 14, 2016 at 8:03 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Really should print some decent clips to hold the glass on so I don't have to keep using masking tape.
Mar 14, 2016 at 8:03 AM - AutopsyTurvy: But my glass is now clean, after *mumblety* years of hairspray buildup
Mar 14, 2016 at 8:04 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Still glitter all over the damn place tho
Mar 14, 2016 at 8:19 AM - Bill Monroe: so you printer looks like it was in a stripper bar?
Mar 14, 2016 at 8:25 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Pretty much, yes.
Mar 14, 2016 at 8:25 AM - AutopsyTurvy: It's printed enough boobs, it ought to. :p
Mar 14, 2016 at 9:29 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Right, that's it, never cleaning the glass again. Haven't had adhesion problems in ages, until now.
    Mar 14, 2016 at 9:32 AM - Mike Kelly: that's why i p much never clean mine
Mar 14, 2016 at 9:32 AM - Mike Kelly: just spray over the last print and go
Mar 14, 2016 at 9:33 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Yeah, if my glass hadn't been covered in glitter, I'd have just left it.
Mar 14, 2016 at 9:33 AM - JeffTheMess: glitter glue
Mar 14, 2016 at 9:36 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Never doin' that again. Shoulda known that "lol just pour glitter on your print" was a stupid idea. Dumb internet telling me to do dumb things, dumb me for going "YAY GLITTER!" and not thinking how dumb it was.

Mar 14, 2016 at 9:43 AM - Quest: That's to funny. Only thing better would be a video of it.
Mar 14, 2016 at 9:50 AM - AutopsyTurvy: Wish I'd had a video camera going when it finished the first layer and the cooling fan turned on and blew glitter EVERYWHERE
Mar 14, 2016 at 9:53 AM - JeffTheMess: new years eve all over again right at your printer
Mar 14, 2016 at 11:25 AM - Mike Kelly: lol topsy
Mar 14, 2016 at 11:37 AM - daniel871: Well, I drilled the carriage to accept 4mm OD/2mmID PTFE and put it between the hexagon and the drive bolt, as well as swapping the stock drive bolt out for e3d drive bolt that wouldn't fit in the original R1, but fits in the R1+ for some reason.
Mar 14, 2016 at 11:38 AM - daniel871: Since the PT100 stuff never showed up and shipping from E3D says it's been sitting in New York since 3/5.
Mar 14, 2016 at 11:39 AM - daniel871: Now I've got to figure out retraction settings for ABS so it won't strip out/finish insulating/closing up the main build area so that Bridge will stick.
Mar 14, 2016 at 11:50 AM - Mike Kelly: did you not buy from printed solid?
Mar 14, 2016 at 11:51 AM - daniel871: Printed Solid didn't have any heat breaks in stock and I needed another one to go with the assorted spare parts I was going to use to build the v6/PT 100 with.
Mar 14, 2016 at 11:51 AM - Mike Kelly: oh
Mar 14, 2016 at 11:52 AM - daniel871: Got the PSU tuned up so that the lights/etc. don't flicker any more, at least.
Mar 14, 2016 at 11:52 AM - Mike Kelly: that's good to hear
Mar 14, 2016 at 11:54 AM - daniel871: Yeah, now I just have to go back to the drawing board on print settings for various materials and start making cubes before doing anything ambitious.
Mar 14, 2016 at 11:55 AM - daniel871: Bridge is still being stubborn about curling/popping off the bed even with UHU glue applied to a cool bed, then heated to 100C. Works fine for a couple hours then just pops off and ruins the print.
Mar 14, 2016 at 11:55 AM - Mike Kelly: cubes are boring and don't tell you much
Mar 14, 2016 at 11:56 AM - Mike Kelly: 100C might be too high
Mar 14, 2016 at 11:56 AM - Mike Kelly: and bridge does warp
Mar 14, 2016 at 11:56 AM - Mike Kelly: just less
Mar 14, 2016 at 11:58 AM - daniel871: Thought about breaking open one of those BluPrint spools I got super cheap on Amazon a while back.
    Mar 14, 2016 at 11:58 AM - daniel871: 3 for $60 or something ridiculous like that.
Mar 14, 2016 at 11:59 AM - daniel871: Actually, I may just put the Bridge away and try that at Taulman's recommended settings for a little while.
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:06 PM - BryZad: Hi all
    Mar 14, 2016 at 12:09 PM - Mike Kelly: i should have tried 910
    Mar 14, 2016 at 12:09 PM - Mike Kelly: i mean i guess i still could
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:09 PM - BryZad: Whoot one pack of bolts suppose to show up today
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:19 PM - daniel871: Huh, they still have that BluPrint for fairly cheap. http://www.amazon.com/Taulman-BluPrint-CoPolymer-Printing-Filament/dp/B00W8JLFOG
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:19 PM - daniel871: Only two for $53 instead of the ridiculous 3 for $60 though.
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:20 PM - Mike Kelly: wanna sell me one :)
    Mar 14, 2016 at 12:20 PM - daniel871: Normally $33/spool on PrintedSolid.
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:21 PM - daniel871: Wait until after I test it and complain/praise it here.
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:26 PM - Mike Kelly: i'm thinking the former is more likely than the latter with you ;)
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:31 PM - daniel871: I don't know, my i3 is in the middle of a ridiculously sliced .05mm layer height Adalinda print with 80% infill and going strong.
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:32 PM - daniel871: Printing stuff with my old spools of PLA and T-glase.
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:32 PM - daniel871: Figured I'd make the Robo be the ABS/Nylon/Etc. filament printer for the really picky stuff that needs an enclosure if I ever get the settings figured out.
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:34 PM - daniel871: And the i3 will just burn through my PLA backlog. I figure anything that the i3 consistently fails to print with is a bad spool because it chewed through that spool of Laywood from April 2015 like it was the best PLA ever.
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:35 PM - daniel871: Didn't like the SST or Bronzefill though.
    Mar 14, 2016 at 12:40 PM - Schlomo: i haven't printed anything in like 72 hours..
    Mar 14, 2016 at 12:41 PM - Schlomo: i purchased a welder though
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:41 PM - Schlomo: Kinda scary, the Computer Engineer owns a welder
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:43 PM - daniel871: Something something joke about using it on computer components.
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:44 PM - Schlomo: Well, i was thinking it would be good for making big traces on PCB's
    Mar 14, 2016 at 12:44 PM - Schlomo: ;D
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:46 PM - daniel871: Well, I'm *almost* in business with the R1+Plus. Just need to clean up the failed print from last night and try a different filament.
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:47 PM - Schlomo: what'd you do to get it running?
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:48 PM - Mike Kelly: gonna be a while till i get my printers again
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:48 PM - Mike Kelly: i've been tearing up the garage, emptying shelves, etc
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:49 PM - daniel871: Turned the PSU pot up as high as it would go, changed the drive bolt out for the E3D drive bolt, drilled the carriage out for 4mm OD x 2mm ID PTFE tubing and put everything back together.
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:50 PM - Mike Kelly: uh dan, you should measure the voltage output from the PSu
    Mar 14, 2016 at 12:50 PM - daniel871: Just shy of 15v, MK.
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:51 PM - Mike Kelly: that's really gonna stress that PSU a lot
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:51 PM - Mike Kelly: you should tune it back down to like 13
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:51 PM - daniel871: Which may mean it will die some time down the road, as that was less than about 15 degrees of turn on the POT.
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:51 PM - Schlomo: oh boy why is it 15v?
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:51 PM - Schlomo: has to be that high to stop the flickering?
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:52 PM - Mike Kelly: you can increase the voltage
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:52 PM - Mike Kelly: he just turned it to 11
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:52 PM - Schlomo: mine flickers a bit while printing, but it doesnt affect the actual print itself
    Mar 14, 2016 at 12:52 PM - Mike Kelly: well, 15
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:52 PM - Mike Kelly: flickering is just noise from the heater circuit
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:52 PM - daniel871: I was also getting stuttering in the stepper motors that stopped after turning it up.
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:52 PM - Mike Kelly: add a capacitor to your ground line from the LED's
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:52 PM - Schlomo: I know but i suggested he check the psu voltage and turn it up if it was under voltage, not to 15v lol
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:52 PM - Mike Kelly: well your steppers will enjoy higher voltage
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:53 PM - Mike Kelly: but you really shouldn't need to run it to 15
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:53 PM - Mike Kelly: since you're watt limited that only gets you 20A
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:53 PM - Mike Kelly: and your bed is pulling more now
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:54 PM - Mike Kelly: just asking for premature failure
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:58 PM - daniel871: That's aggravating, because everything heated up much faster/seemed to run so much better.
Mar 14, 2016 at 12:59 PM - daniel871: (until the print itself lost grip with the bed)
Mar 14, 2016 at 1:09 PM - Mike Kelly: how does it work with PLA or ABS?
Mar 14, 2016 at 1:09 PM - Mike Kelly: you could try 14
Mar 14, 2016 at 1:09 PM - Mike Kelly: 15 is just pushing it
Mar 14, 2016 at 1:31 PM - daniel871: ABS stuck to the bed very well, but the bolt stripped it on retraction even at 2mm retraction/20mm/s retraction speed.
Mar 14, 2016 at 1:31 PM - daniel871: Was trying to print this thing, it was still down around the pedestal. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:105551
Mar 14, 2016 at 1:39 PM - Mike Kelly: what about pla
    Mar 14, 2016 at 1:44 PM - Mike Kelly: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/gif
Mar 14, 2016 at 1:44 PM - Mike Kelly: i love the oatmeal
Mar 14, 2016 at 1:44 PM - Mike Kelly: giraffe for life
Mar 14, 2016 at 3:59 PM - daniel871: I love the quality control that goes into stock Robo parts. [IMG]
Mar 14, 2016 at 4:00 PM - daniel871: I'm less crazy about how my nerve tremors make detailed pictures very difficult to take.
Mar 14, 2016 at 4:44 PM - toymaker: ugh im suppose to teach a class of 12 students and they give me 20 =\
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:20 PM - BryZad: The incerts showed up from China but looking at them I think m3 is going to be to small to attach the outer panels
    Mar 14, 2016 at 5:21 PM - BryZad: On BB-8
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:21 PM - BryZad: Dohhh well guess I might spend another 8 bucks and order a bigger size
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:25 PM - jbigler1986: Daniel what the hell happened there
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:27 PM - daniel871: Best I can tell it leaked out the top of the heater block and ran down/built up from there.
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:29 PM - daniel871: I have the original Hexagon from the R1 I had before this one and have put it in there until Robo responds to the warranty request.
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:38 PM - jbigler1986: Well mine needed tightened when I first got it. They should state that as one of the first steps.
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:42 PM - daniel871: Mine had filament in it that I had to purge/clean so I made the mistake of assuming it was tightened.
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:45 PM - jbigler1986: Well you know robo QC
Mar 14, 2016 at 5:45 PM - jbigler1986: Finest QC you can get
    Mar 14, 2016 at 5:56 PM - daniel871: Well, fingers crossed. [IMG]
    Mar 14, 2016 at 5:57 PM - daniel871: BluPrint test, as well.
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:08 PM - Schlomo: finally printing something on my printer
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:08 PM - Schlomo: shes been idle for a while
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:08 PM - BryZad: Hey question what is a number 10 screw equivalent to in metric ?
    Mar 14, 2016 at 6:09 PM - Schlomo: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=what+is+a+number+10+screw+equivalent+to+in+metric
    Mar 14, 2016 at 6:09 PM - Schlomo: lol
    Mar 14, 2016 at 6:09 PM - BryZad: Lol
Mar 14, 2016 at 6:10 PM - BryZad: But I don't want to have to work I just want the answer
