I periodically get this pop up just after the bed has leveled. The printer just stops and I get this pop up. I have to power cycle the printer, restart MatterControl and enter M999 into the console. Sometimes I have to do it 2-3 times before the printer prints again.

    I have an R1 that's about 1.5 years old.

    Any ideas?

In your g code terminal or.log.is the actual error. We will need to see that. My blind guess would be a temp fall. Check your rhermistor and connections. Just a shot in the dark without the actual error

The temp always holds solid at 210/50. Next time it craps out, I'll post the log.

Yea, visually the temperature will not normally show the spikes that the firmware thinks are happening.

So it just did it again. Here's the log....."Extruder switched off. Temperature fell too much during print".

However, it's not even printing. I just pressed Preheat to get things warmed up while I load my file, etc.

    So what does this mean?

Check your thermistor and connections. Also try preheating with cooling fans off and see if it works. Could be a failing heater.

How do you check the thermistor? Where is it? And what does a "bad" one look like?

It's an R1. All original stock. No modifications. About 1.5 years old.

There is a black rubber boot around your hotend that holds your thermistor in place. Does that look intact ? Your thermistor will be two small wires going to the heat block (the two bigger wires are your heater. There is a quick connector by the hotend and another on the ramps board under the printer, I have an r1+ so I can't help with photos

I took that rubber boot off. Man, what a mess it was under there. I guess 1.5 years worth of crumbly bits. So I found the heater and the thermistor. Does that look OK? Does the thermistor just pull out? I'm afraid to tug on those wires incase I snap them off.

It's an R1. All original stock. Weird, where did my picture go? ....I'll attach again....looks like it says "hexagon" on the extruder.

Yes, the only way to get the rubber boot off was to disconnect the wires at the disconnects and move them out the way.

Ok if you have a multimeter read the ohms. Should be 100k.

Oh, wow, just plugged the thermistor back in. It sparked, wires got red hot and melted the insulation instantly. Ok, so where does one get a new thermistor?

My r1+ wont work with anything under 92 (tempfall error). But thats not real scientific. Lets hook it all back up make sure the connection on the ramps board isnt loose and see if we can mimick the issue by preheating and moving the hotend around bt hand.

Too late. The thermistor just had a meltdown. Look at the picture. It even melted the insulation. I heard it crackle and saw a spark when I plugged it back in.
