I have printed off the 40mm fan holder, attached the fan sent to me from Robo3D (thanks), mounted it however there is a lot of noise from it (caused by vibration). anyone else having that problem?

I am looking to print another of the mounts such that it will connect to the board at four points rather that the 2 currently. Might have to make some mods to the fan bracket.

If that does not work, sub in a larger, slower fan - one that is quieter.

Yeah my printer came with a fan there and it drives me crazy. I am thinking about maybe printing some thin strips with Ninjaflex and adding it to the contact points, or maybe replacing the fan with a really nice one.

Mine did that too. I just slide it to one side a bit and it stopped buzzing.

Really? That is the one thing about the R1 that I find incredibly irritating. Without that buzz I would be able to print while I sleep (printer is in my bedroom).

My printer came with a fan and mount, but the fan was incredibly noisy so I bought a new fan from QuitePC. My printer is blissfully quiet now.

Same here, I have a spare fan that is really quiet I am thinking about swapping out. It is just frustratingly loud.

Kam, did you buy a 40mm or something larger?

40mm so that it would be a straightforward swap with the supplied one.

Mine buzzed like crazy for about 10 minutes then quieted down. My concern is the clearances to the bottom of the case. Not much at all - especially if you're trying to keep a nice amount of air flow. I'll revisit later - at least I'm not sleeping in the same room.

Mine was extremely loud so i shoved a pencil under the USB port to apply some pressure and reduce vibrations. Prints Quite now

A little bit of superglue and that pencil will stay up there just fine. :)

FYI - here are a bunch of RAMPS fan brackets for various sized fans. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:166045 I think I used a 50mm one with a fan I had laying around. You may need to mount on the outside of the bracket to clear the board heat sinks.
