Hi all, first post at this forum.

I am reasonably experienced with CNC, but this is my first 3D printer.
My problem is that the Y axis scale is off. I have made sure belts are tight, plate is aligned etc. Also listening to the motors, I can detect no problem with miss-stepping.

Even so, the prints become asymmetrical in the Y axis.
Here is a picture showing the error on the 1st layer of a gear outline.

1st_layer_gear.JPG Should I start trying to calibrate the system by changing the Y axis step scale? My understanding is that the X and Y scale should be the same on this system?

Never mind. I just inspected the Y drive train, and the motor pulley was completely loose. Kinda impressed it printed as well as it did.

Not very impressed by the QA, especially considered they are marketed as "ready to print" for first time users.

Not sure where you read ready to print but there's almost always some tuning that needs to be done after shipping

Tuning for PLA characteristics and making sure everything is aligned after shipping I have no problem with. But having to dismantle the printer because parts are not assembled correctly, not so much.

That's part of buying any printer at this point in time. Even makerbots are riddled with issues.

You pretty much have to do the 'acceptance' test and Q/A the printer when you get it :)
Seems to always be a loose/broken dohicky (or several) somewhere.
