I fixed it by removing the shroud.
    Easier to work on too

Keeping the shroud and using the rod caps increases stability of the Z rods significantly

I added the rod caps. :) Silent as a super ninja walking on air. Now if I can just find some very very quite fans I could hear my wife yelling at me to do something useful.

Just forewarning that quieter fans have reduced CFM. They might be sufficient but it could also result in the heatsink getting too hot and cause more jamming

Not always.. but you pay for quiet and high volume and they will likely be a different form factor. I squirrel cage fan whenever I can. I haven't researched it.. but i bet its 10X the air per decibel.. well to a point.

the loudest fan on mine is the extruder fan. I just bought a direct drive extruder though.. so that particular fan will be going in the parts drawer.. More options for the direct drive extruder fan.

Direct drive assembly with extruder and stepper was cheaper than a hex head, i thought I'd give it a try.
