What do you guys think? What ABS do you use?
An open chamber printer (with no heated chamber) can print ABS, but it is hard to do well. Certain styles of models will be troublesome (larger,flatter ones)
You have to evaluate why you think you need ABS. There are a lot of alternatives these days (most with superior qualities to ABS) that are easier to print. ABS is not the strongest or best at anything, the only real advantage ABS has over alternatives is that it is often cheaper.
I use ABS, pretty good prints, on my robo, when it not broken.
You look at that chart and find any one material property where ABS rules...
Price is the only real reason to consider it for FDM printing.
I have printed a lot of ABS on the Robo, but none in the past year and likely none ever again. There are always better choices.
So is nylon better?
That is like asking if snow tires are better than summer radials....
If you are going to drive in the snow they certainly are.
Materials are different. Each one is best suited for a specific range of uses. YOU know what you intend to use a part for and so need to decide which filament features best fit that use.
Okay. But is the trouble of nylon less than ABS?
Every filament has its own headaches... Abs is probably the most headaches.
Different. Most nylon blends are a lot easier to print that ABS, a few can be problematic (look at the charts I pointed you to).
Issue is that most nylons are not as HARD as ABS, polycarbonate is easily tougher and harder than ABS (stronger too) BluPrint has better heat resistance properties and is equally as strong.
You need to learn a bit of material science if you want to be able to make intelligent choices about what filaments are best suited for a particular use.Like I said, YOU know how it will be used and what it needs to do. Look at the charts and find a filament that best suits that. People use to use ABS because it was less brittle than PLA and had a higher glass transition temp. Lots of others do those things even better now.
I meant like adhesion and print temp/cloggs. But anyways.
Not sure what you mean. Look at the charts I pointed you to, they answer all of the other questions except clogs and that is never an issue with any decent filament other than PLA (and an oiler solves that)
Don't get stuck in a rut thinking that PLA and ABS are your choices.

3d printing materials are one of my favorite subjects. Mark is definitely right. They is a world of difference between the materials and you have to pair it with you project. Do you know what you want to build and we can discuss options?
