    Well crap. Pretty much got mine all set up today like what Collin is showing, got one good print out of it, started a second print, and whattaya know, the thing jams up again like before (solid-halfway in the heat break).

    Yea, still having problems. Just got home, so I am going to season it some more, guess I didn't enough in the first place. Mostly I have been printing with PLA. According to E3D, they primarily print with ABS plastic which may season the components. So I should really be testing that material before making any claims.

    I just added the oiler and have been jam free ever since.
    I am not sure how often you need to re-season. "periodically" was all I ever say documented.

    What brand of filiment are you using.

    Pla should work 100% as well as abs if not bettrr

    Just oiled it, as of now, 5 hours into a print, and everything is looking good. also using filament from Shaxon ind. I get it from my local FRY's, and I've never had a problem with their filament. ABS and PLA will have different effects in their melted state, mostly because PLA is a biopolymer, composed of starches and sugars, and sugars have a tendency to melt and stick to metal surfaces (think of baking), and like a cookie sheet or something, you should oil it up before cooking.

    Ah, you have a local Frys (now, I am jealous). Short of company HQ in CA, the closest one to me is ... Atlanta. I get there every so often and make my pilgrimage to Frys...

    Where do you work?
    out of curiosity

    Daniel my man, oiled or not pla abs nylon and many many others have been vetted through the e3d v5 and v6 most people i know use it primarily for pla it really really should not be a problem in fact this is the first ive ever heard of anybody oiling the filament. ill defiantly have to try it tho. it worries me that the extruder wheel may slip but ive never even tried it.

    I think you to may be over thinking this. I had very similar looking jams with that ring around the filament when dislodged. Many people use e3d on many machines without oil. oil kind of feals like a patch.

    but because i want to try it, mark what procedure do you use to "season the filament?"

    @Daniel Greenberg
    would you mind posting a picture of your extuder from the top where the bowden tube goes in? When you replaced it did you make sure it was seated well on the heat break firmly?

    Silicon Valley and Florida. :)
    The older I get the less it is the former and the more it is the latter.
