I've upgraded our R1 to an E3D V6 hot end and everything looks good other than the hot end fan.

The hot end fan is directly wired to the Ramps board like this and turns on with master power switch.

It stays on with extruder preheated to 210 but once the bed hits 60 on its preheat the fan turns off.

I've checked the wiring for shorts back to the Ramps board. Any thoughts?

If it is wired where you indicated that is right off of the Power supply.
Make sure you didn't wire it to D8 by accident.
And we are talking about the HOTEND fan, not the parts cooling fan, yes?

I plugged it in with the red and black on the PSU as in the photo. It is the hot end fan that turns off as soon as the print bed hits 60c

I'll open it up and trace the wiring back to the board to make sure the two fans dont have swapped wiring.

The hot end fan does trace back to the PSU connection directly.

Even with the extruder not preheating, the hot end fan kicks off as soon as the bed hits the 60c preheat mark.

Check the comm log. Make sure nothing else is tossing an error.
I assume the hotend is staying hot? Not cooling down? Just the fan goes off?

Correct. Hot end stays on. Heated bed stays on. Only the hot end fan turns off. It does randomly come back on later.

I appreciate your help. Will check comm log next.

Well, if all else fails it might be a flaky fan :)

You could check to see if the power is actually cutting off which would be... weird. Almost certainly a P/S issue if just one 12v rail is turning off.

Sounds like you have it wired into the bed heater terminal and not the power input terminal.

    Picture of your wiring?

Photo attached. The hot end fan wires are going in the top right corner in the bottom two flat head slots.

After leaving it on longer, it doesn't not cut out exactly at 60 on the heat bed preheat but sometimes in the 50s and it always comes back on and off every 30-60 seconds or so.

FYI, the disconnected wires with electrical tape here in the photo are the stock heater wiring. It currently has the V6 wired straight to the board until connectors arrive in the mail to patch into the stock wiring.

Ran a test where I connected a spare fan to exactly the same spots as the questionable hot end fan and it stays on even when the hot end fan shuts off.

Will look further into the hot end fan and its wiring. Thanks for the help

Yeah sounds like the hot end fan is faulty. I'd submit a replacement part request and pick up a spare 30mm fan

Have you tried wiring the fan to the original hotend fan wiring to see if it's the fan or the wiring itself? I mean if it's wired correctly to where you say it is, it should be on always when the robo power is on. It should never shut off until the power is turned off on the robo. When you connected your spare fan to the same place it stayed on?

Yes the spare fan stayed on and the E3D 30 mm fan turned off when both plugged into same spot.

Will try replacing wiring before buying another fan.

Sounds like it a fan issue. I would order a replacement. You can try to go through e3d but you probably want it sooner.

Replacement fan is installed and the fan now stays on.

Also wired it to the fuse protected side of the RAMPS board instead of direct to PSU option this time. Thanks
