I am able to get the auto level working in my ROBO 3d printer using custom code in Matter Control but I don't see a way to save the changes. I don't want to have to tell the software what the Z offset is on every print. How do I make this permanent?

Don't use Matter Control. Lol. Change the settings to advanced and see if you get the option to save.

Right. If you are set on using MatterControl when you make a change in the settings you have to click save before moving off that window. The button will only appear if you make a change and press "enter" or move to another setting within that same window.

Also do not use the autolevel function built into MatterControl that has you use a piece of paper and checks the bed in three places.

Ah-ha, the old "Save button doesn't show up until the enter button is pressed trick"... Thank you, that took care of the problem.

I ended up making the change in matter control... I went to the Printer options and changed the z Offset directly there.

It is possible to permanently define a Z offset value using the firmware however.

I'm sure it is Mike, but programming isn't exactly my thing.

It is a near certainty that at some point you are going to need to update it.
    With something custom :)

Changing one variable isn't exactly programming :)

You asked how to make it permanent, not how to make this only work in MatterControl ;)

Permanent in matter control is good enough for now. If I do modify the firmware in the future, will I need to maintain my own unique stream and wouldn't it be difficult to incorporate changes made in the main stream into mine?

I would suggest moving away from Matter Control in general. Not nearly as good as other free software. Pretty sure you can offset it with gcode. Which is pretty easy once you find out where and what to enter. Plenty of people on here will help you out.

Not really. Just keep your modified files separate and merge them. It is probably only configuration.h normally...

jbigler1986, you are the second person to suggest I move off Matter Control. Although it seems to work for me, I admit I have only been 3D printing for a couple weeks.

Can you point me to a few slicers that might be better options?

BTW: I did look at slick3r but when I went to install it, there was no config selection for my Robo 3D printer.

    Lol "Changes"

Cura is my favorite. Though Repetier-Host is a more advanced version of MatterControl
