    Hi guys,

I feel guilty to just show up without any knowledge and ask you so many things..please forgive me..

I have installed E3D hotend on my Robo just now and am having trouble with firmware thing..
I have been searching around but still dont get it...

All I know now is that I need to use Matter Control software to change some settings.
so I downloaded matter control software (MatterControl1.2) and the zip file (Auto_Level_6_10) which Mr Mike Kelly posted in this forum, but I dont know what to do with it as I have never used it before..
and it looks like some kinda slicer software, is it a slicer?? and I dont know why it cannot connect to my Robo...

Now my questions are as below:
1, what is Arduino? am I supposed to use it?
2, are these Arduino and MatterControl completely different stuff??
3, is there any way to do this firmware stuff very easily?
4, cant I use E3D without changing anything in firmware?

All I want to do is just to set my Robo to use E3D..
That would be greatly appreciated if you guys can give me some step-by-step instruction...
    Thanks in advance.

PS, sorry about my English if you cannot understand.:(

Arduino is the "computer" that's what I will call it that is underneath your Robo. It is what communicates with your Robo telling it what movements to make. You need to download the Arduino software from here http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Software . Mattercontrol is the software that comes with the Robo. It can do everything for you if you want to use it. In order to "flash" install a new firmware to the Robo you will need to do it with the Arduino program. Here are instructions on how to "flash" new firmware to your Robo http://help.robo3dprinter.com/Wiki/RoBo_3D_Firmware . Make sure you select the correct firmware for your printer.

    jbigler1986,
    Thanks heaps for your help.

    I guess I have a correct firmware(Mr. Kelly's) for my Robo.
so that means I dont actually need to use MatterControl software at all to setup my Robo to use E3D hotend?

I don't think there is anything else that needs to be setup after you install the hotend. I'm not 100% on that though. Just make sure you have your new offset set because it's probably different than you had before. You don't have to use Mattercontrol if you are using a different slicer that is working for you.

    Oh is it really?
Thats good to know as I am using Cura and its working great on my Robo.:)
    Thanks a lot mate.:)

I am going to do firmware thing now then.
Just to make sure, what if I select wrong firmware for my Robo? I can just replace it with a correct one later yea?

Yep. Just reflash it with the correct one. Just do a small test print to make sure everything is good.

    Quest,
    Thanks for your suggestion.:)
Actually that thread is what I looked at at the begining, and I got one of the zip files Mr. Kelly posted.
My Robo came to my hand in Jan last year, so it doesnt have auto-leveling system or a bottom cover thing.
so I got the bottom one (Mechanical screw that hits the Z min endstop) but am not sure if mine is that one as its file name is "Auto_Level_Series_6_10_E3D". I have been confusing because of my poor English.:(

    jbigler1986,
    Thanks. I will try then.:)

I did flashing the firmware last night.
I set max temperature 300 in Arduino for sealing the E3D hotend nozzle and done uploading, but what I get is max temperature 285 degrees...
    What did I miss?

    When you say

"I set the max temperature 300 in Arduino for sealing the E3D hotend nozzle and done uploading"

What exactly did you change in CONFIGURATION.H?

    Hi Mark,
    sorry I kinda mislead you.
I meant that I downloaded the zip file (Auto_Level_Series_6_10_E3D) which Mr Mike Kelly posted in this forum and uploaded to my Robo.
According to CONFIGURATION.H section, max temperature is set 300.
but my robo still only goes up to 285.
    Thats whats happening now.

What lines in CONFIGURATION.H are you referring to?
I have not downloaded that version so I want to sanity check what you actually uploaded.

Are you getting any warnings/errors/messages in the console/terminal window when you are trying to drive the hotend to 300?

I just restarted my Robo and now it goes up to 300.:)
    sorry about the trouble, Mark.

I smelled something so burning once it reached 300, so I turned it off straight as I was scared.
Is it normally happening?super burning smell?

The burning smell might just be the hotend nozzle burning in.
I am not sure what you are trying to do at 300 degrees (most filament will not want it to be that hot).

If all you were doing is seating it, you are probably good.
