I cannot get the printer to print at the correct height. Every time, it pushes itself against the bed allowing no filament to come out.

What is you Z offset configured for and precisely which printer version are you using?

I've tried a few different z offsets from -1 to 1 and there doesn't seem to be a difference. Right now it's 1. My printer is an R1 Plus that was purchased new last december.

Post what your startup gcode block looks like. I suspect you are just entering the M565 command incorrectly.

I've gotten it to work correctly multiple times now with this gcode.

Awesome. While that is a rather large Z offset compared to others ... there is no normal, only what works :)
