Trying to print and the R1 Plus seems to have forgotten where the print bed is. It's about 8" above it and won't drop down to print. I've tried removing the printer and then adding it again. Doesn't help. And it will also go too high and unplug, jamming itself in the rafters.

    Any ideas what happened?

    Watch the video.
One or more of you Z home switches is not working correctly.

This is a very common issue. A quick search on printing in the air or something similar should get you tons of info.
But what usually is the case is one of the two switches that tell the print head where to find the bed is not working right. Usually it's an adjustment or just a bad switch.

With the printer off or disconnected from software turn the vertical screws by hand until the nozzle is just above the bed.
Then take a sheet of paper and lower the nozzle until you can drag the paper under it and feel pressure. Move the print head far left and repeat and far right and repeat. Do this over and over until you get the same or close to the same pressure when you tug on the paper.

Try printing again and report back.

LOL, Mark beat me to it. Mark is "The Man". If what I conflicts with what he says, listen to him.

if both switches appear good home all axis through your slicer of choice. (only if both switches look good). someone else had a similar problem and that was the fix.

That's correct. But the video is of no help. He's saying things I do not understand.

Probably at about 1:46 in the video, after a bit of explaining how it all works, he gets to what causes most issues. One or more of the switches is out of position. Most people find it easier to understand watching the video than just telling them to check the Z home switches :) Once a switch is mis-positioned the printer will only raise the Z since it thinks it is always "on the bed"

Post some pictures of the Z home switches for us and we can go from there.

The names of the parts can be confusing in the beginning. There should be a stickie where all the parts are defined, lol.

On the carriage where the print head and nozzle are mounted at each end you'll find a vertical threaded rod. On those ends you should find a switch on each end. Take a clear close up photo of each one.

I figured it out. I straightened the switches and it works fine now. Thanks guys!
