ROBO 3D rubber thermistor cover

    Is this rubber cover necessary for the printer to function optimally or is this simply for safety.

    That rubber cover is the only thing holding the thermistor in place, so yes, it's required.

    However, you can remove the rubber cover and use kapton tape to wrap the thermstor to the hotend.

    But unless you replace it with something, it is as @daniel871 says... required.

    when I took off the rubber my thermistor looked like it had a black adhesive holding it in.

    I gues that could be but it seems right where the wires go in there are circular blotches of what looks like adhesive.

    coincidentally there are no other places where there are blotches
