i've recently acquired one of the original kickstarter Robo R1 machines.

When I plug it into my computer, the lights on the motherboard turn on, and my computer can read the temperature information from the bed and nozzle. However wh en I plug it on and power it on the machine is non-responsive, none of the lights or fans turn on, and I can't move anything using software.

I got on the phone with Robo 3D, who told me to check the fuse in the power supply, and also told me to try this forum.

So I've pryed the power supply out and opened it up, but the fuse is intact. Here's a photo of what the inside of my power supply looks like:

does anything look out of the ordinary?

I just lost the power supply recently on one of my beta units and while it is a pain to pry it out of the case, it is a snap to actually rewire it in :)

In mine it was the transformer that leaked all the magic white smoke out from inside so ... I trashed it. New one is not that expensive

Also, the electronics can power themselves from the USB port you plug your computer into. The stepper motors will not. So without the power supply your computer can talk to the printer, but it will not print.

Also, make sure that Power supply is getting AC... there is a fuse before it gets to the power supply (where the power cord plugs in)

Ok! So I took a multimeter to the machine, and it seems the switch is bad.
So now I need to find where I can buy a replacement switch

So we just noticed there is a fuse in the switch, that connects the two wires that are not working. We've been having trouble accessing this switch however

We got the fuse out after carving at a lot of plastic, it was indeed blown
the design for where this fuse is kept is very dumb

I'd check to make sure the Power supply is set on the right voltage (110 in the US, 220 in other places ;) ) and make sure thats not what blew the fuse. Once you narrow down the cause you can get her rolling. May want to pick up a handfull of fuses just in case

Sadly it is a standard, dumb design :) You can buy replacements at Amazon (that is how standard it is). Hopefully that is all that is wrong, if the power supply itself is bad you have a link to a replacement as well.

So I just replaced the broken fuse and switched my printer on
it turned on for 2 beautiful seconds and then the new fuse blew too.
I have my printer switched to 115V not 230V
any ideas what else it could be?

I really do appreciate how standard the parts are, we just had a very difficult time getting the fuse out of the switch, wound up carving away at some of the plastic

Bad power supply would be my first guess. It is the only thing attached to the A/C.
They are cheap (see the link I posted earlier in the thread)

that would be my guess as well, a bad powersupply if the fuses if you bought were an exact match for what was in there.
