Jul 6, 2015 4:58 PM - Mike Kelly: Once I get the lead screw upgrade
Jul 6, 2015 4:59 PM - jbigler1986: Ha. Yeah Harry keeps trying to get me to buy a refurb still
Jul 6, 2015 4:59 PM - jbigler1986: Not happening anymore with how long they took to give me a straight answer
Jul 6, 2015 4:59 PM - Stephen Capistron: Pid control the vapor?
Jul 6, 2015 5:00 PM - Stephen Capistron: Look into the "meal" knob on kickstarter
Jul 6, 2015 5:02 PM - jbigler1986: Im pissed about how many extruder designs i trashed bc of the damn first layer issue. I thought it was the extruders.
Jul 6, 2015 5:03 PM - Stephen Capistron: That sucks
Jul 6, 2015 5:03 PM - Stephen Capistron: If you just power cycle the printer does the auto level work again?
Jul 6, 2015 5:04 PM - jbigler1986: Nope. Have to twist that rod everytime
Jul 6, 2015 5:04 PM - Stephen Capistron: Try adding something to your end g code to turn the z steppers back on?
Jul 6, 2015 5:05 PM - Stephen Capistron: So they are pretty much always energized
Jul 6, 2015 5:07 PM - jbigler1986: I can paper level then start a print. After autolevel the left side is always to low
Jul 6, 2015 5:09 PM - Stephen Capistron: So it happens almost instantly
Jul 6, 2015 5:19 PM - Stephen Capistron: Paper level with the steppers energized and then never turn them off with your end gcode?
    Jul 6, 2015 5:20 PM - Mike Kelly: that's a good idea
Jul 6, 2015 5:20 PM - Mike Kelly: could be a drooping effect caused by the weight in the box
Jul 6, 2015 5:23 PM - jbigler1986: Tried. Hard to get a good paper level with these rods while enabled
Jul 6, 2015 5:24 PM - jbigler1986: I removed half of the weight in the box. Got the same result
Jul 6, 2015 5:24 PM - jbigler1986: Its an easy temp for prints. Just mind boggling
    Jul 6, 2015 5:24 PM - jbigler1986: Easy temp fix*
Jul 6, 2015 5:25 PM - Mike Kelly: what happens if you remove the box entirely
Jul 6, 2015 5:26 PM - jbigler1986: Good question. Will try after this carriage is done
Jul 6, 2015 5:26 PM - jbigler1986: Starting to really like bowden though.
    Jul 6, 2015 5:27 PM - jbigler1986: Default print speed now is 110
    Jul 6, 2015 5:27 PM - donhuevo: you're cruisin'
    Jul 6, 2015 5:27 PM - jbigler1986: One day i will be at 150
    Jul 6, 2015 5:28 PM - donhuevo: one day soon I think
    Jul 6, 2015 5:51 PM - jbigler1986: Not with dual
Jul 6, 2015 5:56 PM - donhuevo: why not with a lightweight dual?
Jul 6, 2015 6:10 PM - jbigler1986: Thats true. Doesnt add that much weight
Jul 6, 2015 6:12 PM - donhuevo: you just have to watch when you start throwing bags of nuts and bolts into the mix
Jul 6, 2015 6:14 PM - Stephen Capistron: Once you go bowden the bed has to weigh more than the carriage
    Jul 6, 2015 6:14 PM - donhuevo: easily
Jul 6, 2015 6:15 PM - jbigler1986: Never. My hotends are made of gold.
    Jul 6, 2015 6:15 PM - donhuevo: haha
Jul 6, 2015 6:16 PM - Stephen Capistron: So isn't that the limiting factor on speed with regards to the belts
Jul 6, 2015 6:24 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah 150 is probably pushing the y to the max. Get a lighter bed?
Jul 6, 2015 6:26 PM - donhuevo: maybe double up the belt?
    Jul 6, 2015 6:30 PM - Stephen Capistron: Or switch to gt3
Jul 6, 2015 6:31 PM - Stephen Capistron: Sdp-si also sells a ton of different timing belt sizes
    Jul 6, 2015 6:31 PM - Stephen Capistron: Gt3 was a great game
Jul 6, 2015 6:33 PM - Stephen Capistron: So just as a random oh let's see how this goes kind of thing. I have a 75 watt bulb on inside my enclosure. It is a balmy 60+ in there
    Jul 6, 2015 6:36 PM - jbigler1986: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/jbigler1986
Jul 6, 2015 7:10 PM - Mike Kelly: i considered using a lightbulb in my enclosure
    Jul 6, 2015 7:12 PM - donhuevo: maybe something like this... http://www.amazon.com/ECG-HG-300D-M...=UTF8&qid=1436235208&sr=1-5&keywords=heat+gun
Jul 6, 2015 7:17 PM - Mike Kelly: apparently circulation is bad
Jul 6, 2015 7:18 PM - Stephen Capistron: I don't think you want air moving. You want the plastic to cool down as slow and uniformly as possible
Jul 6, 2015 7:19 PM - Mike Kelly: kinda want to get a heat lamp or something
Jul 6, 2015 7:19 PM - Stephen Capistron: The bulb initially melted a hole in my foam so I fashioned a quick aluminum foil shield
Jul 6, 2015 7:19 PM - donhuevo: those heat guns are way more heat and way less air movement than a hair dryer
Jul 6, 2015 7:19 PM - Stephen Capistron: I think a heat lamp is overkill
    Jul 6, 2015 7:21 PM - Stephen Capistron: I'm getting a solid 10 - 15 degree bump with just 75 watts
Jul 6, 2015 7:22 PM - Stephen Capistron: This is based on measuring the temp of the x idler with an ir gun
    Jul 6, 2015 7:36 PM - jbigler1986: stream is back up . fyi
    Jul 6, 2015 7:41 PM - jbigler1986: https://www.dropbox.com/s/a5aj3wnhf21bllb/mysettings.fff?dl=0 my S3D settings if anyone was interested
    Jul 6, 2015 8:20 PM - Harry: OOO Thanks
    Jul 6, 2015 8:20 PM - Harry: I actually just downlaoded s3d today
Jul 6, 2015 8:20 PM - Harry: those for anything special JB or just normal printing?

    Jul 7, 2015 6:40 AM - jbigler1986: nah. not sure
Jul 7, 2015 6:44 AM - jbigler1986: so gregs wade grinds filament when it retracts a lot
Jul 7, 2015 6:45 AM - jbigler1986: so geared stepper is back on since that wasn't the issue
    Jul 7, 2015 7:11 AM - Mike Kelly: morning
Jul 7, 2015 7:15 AM - Mike Glass: jb does have time..lol he lives here. morning MK
Jul 7, 2015 7:15 AM - jbigler1986: On the chat yeah. But not browsing the forum

Jul 7, 2015 7:16 AM - Mike Glass: Sorry here about the boy
Jul 7, 2015 7:17 AM - Mike Glass: puking kids is no fun
Jul 7, 2015 7:17 AM - Mike Kelly: isn't that like 90% of what they do?
Jul 7, 2015 7:18 AM - Mike Glass: mine has only puked once, now the girls, thats another story
Jul 7, 2015 7:19 AM - jbigler1986: My oldest never gets sick. My youngest does. He eats horrible though. So picky. Have to give him vitamins daily to help
    Jul 7, 2015 7:19 AM - Mike Kelly: that's too bad
Jul 7, 2015 7:21 AM - jbigler1986: He will literally just not eat dinner if he doesnt like what we eat.
Jul 7, 2015 7:21 AM - jbigler1986: Use to make him his own dinner. Not anymore.
Jul 7, 2015 7:22 AM - Mike Glass: our youngest is like that, doesnt like anything, except brocolli..lol
Jul 7, 2015 7:24 AM - Mike Kelly: i don't understand why picky eaters is such a thing
Jul 7, 2015 7:30 AM - jbigler1986: Me either. He loves bread and crackers
Jul 7, 2015 7:30 AM - Mike Kelly: my cousin was really picky, he'd only eat chicken or hot dogs
Jul 7, 2015 7:31 AM - Mike Kelly: no buns
    Jul 7, 2015 7:41 AM - Stephen Capistron: Who doesn't love buns
Jul 7, 2015 7:42 AM - Mike Glass: im at home today as well JB, trying to come up with something to cnc.
Jul 7, 2015 7:43 AM - Mike Glass: buns of steel:)
Jul 7, 2015 7:54 AM - Mike Kelly: i'm not really sure what to work on today
    Jul 7, 2015 7:57 AM - daniel871: Test Waldo's firmware?
Jul 7, 2015 8:00 AM - Stephen Capistron: Start organizing your electronics so you can get them out from underneath to make warming the build space a bit more feasible
Jul 7, 2015 8:05 AM - jbigler1986: Did you get running again daniel?
Jul 7, 2015 8:21 AM - Mike Kelly: i'm doing some cleanup of my model
Jul 7, 2015 8:21 AM - Mike Kelly: gotta make it pretty!
Jul 7, 2015 8:26 AM - Stephen Capistron: What model?
Jul 7, 2015 8:27 AM - Mike Kelly: our flare gas recovery
Jul 7, 2015 8:31 AM - Stephen Capistron: Because that needs to be pretty?
    Jul 7, 2015 8:32 AM - donhuevo: morning
Jul 7, 2015 8:34 AM - Mike Kelly: mornin don
Jul 7, 2015 8:34 AM - Mike Kelly: doesn't "need" to be pretty, just bugs me when stuff is incorrect
Jul 7, 2015 8:34 AM - Mike Kelly: and i'm kinda stumped on what to work on
    Jul 7, 2015 8:35 AM - donhuevo: hey Mike
    Jul 7, 2015 8:41 AM - donhuevo: dual z smooth rod bracket... http://www.ustream.tv/channel/donhuevo-s-robo3d
    Jul 7, 2015 8:43 AM - jbigler1986: Are you running a v5 don?
Jul 7, 2015 8:43 AM - Mike Kelly: he is
    Jul 7, 2015 8:43 AM - Mike Kelly: he's old school
Jul 7, 2015 8:44 AM - donhuevo: yep. I'm thinking I'm gonna do some carriage work before I reprint that and set it up for the v6
Jul 7, 2015 8:44 AM - donhuevo: yep, just call me Frank the Tank
Jul 7, 2015 8:45 AM - jbigler1986: Lol. Thought the heat block looked larger
    Jul 7, 2015 8:45 AM - Mike Kelly: it's actually smaller
Jul 7, 2015 8:45 AM - donhuevo: maybe an optical illusion will all the kapton tape
Jul 7, 2015 8:45 AM - jbigler1986: Is it. Hmmm. Maybe its the angle
Jul 7, 2015 8:46 AM - Stephen Capistron: Don is an expert in maximizing camera angles
Jul 7, 2015 8:47 AM - donhuevo: it's the one place I was able to mount the camera to the case
Jul 7, 2015 8:48 AM - donhuevo: this is the last piece of bracketry though... As soon as I come up with another carriage I'll print that
    Jul 7, 2015 8:48 AM - donhuevo: it's past time for a new grill
    Jul 7, 2015 8:49 AM - Mike Kelly: i guess the v6 heater block is .5mm shorter
    Jul 7, 2015 8:49 AM - Mike Kelly: http://wiki.e3d-online.com/images/7/7b/DRAWING-V6-BLOCK.png vs http://wiki.e3d-online.com/images/1/1b/DRAWING-V5-BLOCK_rev3.jpg
    Jul 7, 2015 8:50 AM - jbigler1986: What do i win
Jul 7, 2015 8:50 AM - donhuevo: Mike, tell jb what he's won...
    Jul 7, 2015 8:50 AM - Mike Kelly: nothing!
    Jul 7, 2015 8:51 AM - jbigler1986: Damnit
Jul 7, 2015 8:55 AM - Mike Kelly: "Sr. Mechanical Engineer"
Jul 7, 2015 8:55 AM - Mike Kelly: Requirements: 3 years of experience
    Jul 7, 2015 8:55 AM - donhuevo: Senor
    Jul 7, 2015 8:55 AM - Mike Kelly: uhhmmmmm
Jul 7, 2015 8:56 AM - donhuevo: I'm feeling I need to be a little cross at you for not putting in this kind of effort for the lulzbot job
Jul 7, 2015 8:56 AM - Mike Kelly: i'm a little cross at myself for that too
Jul 7, 2015 8:57 AM - donhuevo: in my mind it was like 'peanut butter, meet chocolate... chocolate, say hello to peanut butter'
Jul 7, 2015 8:57 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah i was just not prepared to apply to a job
Jul 7, 2015 8:58 AM - donhuevo: or weed munchies meet convenient store microwaveable red hot burrito
Jul 7, 2015 8:58 AM - Mike Kelly: i'm still not quite there yet
Jul 7, 2015 8:58 AM - Mike Kelly: i've been working like every night trying to build my portfolio
    Jul 7, 2015 8:58 AM - Mike Kelly: it's insanely time consuming
Jul 7, 2015 8:58 AM - daniel871: Sorry JB, was distracted by work.
Jul 7, 2015 8:59 AM - Stephen Capistron: Mark, that is why I just up and quit
Jul 7, 2015 8:59 AM - daniel871: No, not running yet. Stepper driver delivery was "delayed" over the weekend so that the parts are supposedly being delivered today.
Jul 7, 2015 9:00 AM - Stephen Capistron: Damn you auto correct . Matt = MK
    Jul 7, 2015 9:00 AM - daniel871: Mark?
    Jul 7, 2015 9:00 AM - Stephen Capistron: Ok I give up
    Jul 7, 2015 9:00 AM - daniel871: :p
    Jul 7, 2015 9:00 AM - donhuevo: Matt?
    Jul 7, 2015 9:00 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah i can't afford to quit
Jul 7, 2015 9:00 AM - Mike Kelly: i'd need to be let go
    Jul 7, 2015 9:01 AM - daniel871: Take a dump in the boss's office.
    Jul 7, 2015 9:01 AM - daniel871: Unless they're into that, in which case don't.
Jul 7, 2015 9:01 AM - Mike Kelly: i'd prefer not to burn bridges :)
Jul 7, 2015 9:02 AM - daniel871: Kind of hard to get let go without burning bridges.

Jul 7, 2015 9:02 AM - Mike Kelly: not when the company goes under
Jul 7, 2015 9:03 AM - daniel871: Not really a burned bridge if the company no longer exists, then.
Jul 7, 2015 9:03 AM - daniel871: More like "the place that bridge goes to went the way of Atlantis".
Jul 7, 2015 9:03 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah which is why i'm in a tough position
Jul 7, 2015 9:04 AM - Mike Kelly: i can't afford to quit and i'd need the company to go under to have time to apply to jobs
Jul 7, 2015 9:04 AM - donhuevo: is making hi-res renders what's so time consuming?
Jul 7, 2015 9:04 AM - Mike Kelly: well that's what i did all last night
    Jul 7, 2015 9:04 AM - daniel871: Make a very costly mistake?
Jul 7, 2015 9:04 AM - Mike Kelly: go through my images to find stuff i made then generate more renders
Jul 7, 2015 9:05 AM - daniel871: "That mistake just cost the company it's ability to stay in business!"
Jul 7, 2015 9:05 AM - Mike Kelly: lol yeah right
    Jul 7, 2015 9:05 AM - Mike Kelly: i'm too good at what I do ;)
Jul 7, 2015 9:05 AM - donhuevo: which is why you'll be the last to be let go
Jul 7, 2015 9:06 AM - daniel871: Accidentally send designs to competitor clients, have convincing "Oh shit!" moment and get fired?
Jul 7, 2015 9:06 AM - Mike Kelly: still burning bridges
Jul 7, 2015 9:06 AM - daniel871: Assuming you're in a business where you have two competitors using you for designs.
    Jul 7, 2015 9:06 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah i know don
Jul 7, 2015 9:07 AM - Mike Kelly: even if we're not building we can still be designing
Jul 7, 2015 9:07 AM - Mike Kelly: and i'm the only one qualified to do what I do
Jul 7, 2015 9:08 AM - donhuevo: my dad is a fitter at a mill that makes very large hangar doors. Even when the work dried up, the engineers kept drawing
Jul 7, 2015 9:08 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah that's what the president told us
    Jul 7, 2015 9:09 AM - Mike Kelly: so i dunno
Jul 7, 2015 9:09 AM - Mike Kelly: i'd like a better job i just hate to jump ship and leave them stranded
Jul 7, 2015 9:10 AM - daniel871: Uh-oh, Emily Kinney from the Walking Dead is going to be on a show called "Masters of Sex".
Jul 7, 2015 9:10 AM - donhuevo: only the captain is supposed to go down with the ship. It's some sort of maritime law
Jul 7, 2015 9:10 AM - daniel871: Queue a bunch of jokes about headshots and bad singing.
Jul 7, 2015 9:10 AM - Mike Kelly: the other design engineer might be capable of taking over my role, but he's still learning
Jul 7, 2015 9:11 AM - Mike Kelly: i just get really bad blocks when i try and work on stuff
Jul 7, 2015 9:12 AM - donhuevo: stupid question... is there anything you can do like maybe apply the technology you've already come up with to something else that may give them a chance at staying viable?
Jul 7, 2015 9:13 AM - Mike Kelly: i mean in some ways yes
Jul 7, 2015 9:13 AM - Mike Kelly: our main technology is the refrigeration system we developed
Jul 7, 2015 9:13 AM - Mike Kelly: which originally was intended for CO2 liquification
Jul 7, 2015 9:13 AM - donhuevo: could this technology be applied to sewage processing plants to maybe make them self-sufficient? turn farts into electricity... that sort of thing
Jul 7, 2015 9:14 AM - jbigler1986: I need to cool this stepper. Its tranfering heat to the drive gear softening the filament just enough to have it grind after about 2 hours of use
    Jul 7, 2015 9:14 AM - jbigler1986: Slut
Jul 7, 2015 9:14 AM - daniel871: Or just make them not stink as bad when located in urban neighborhoods?
Jul 7, 2015 9:14 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah it could be but cost vs benefit is such a bitch
Jul 7, 2015 9:14 AM - daniel871: Cost vs. Benefit of not having people driven insane by their neighborhood smelling like shit all the time and committing crimes of frustration.
Jul 7, 2015 9:15 AM - Mike Kelly: good luck convincing a municipality of that
Jul 7, 2015 9:16 AM - daniel871: Atlanta would probably consider it. They throw money at all kinds of projects like that.
    Jul 7, 2015 9:16 AM - jbigler1986: 40mm fan should do it
    Jul 7, 2015 9:16 AM - donhuevo: a 40 is perfect for that
Jul 7, 2015 9:16 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah JB i ran into that issue a lot
Jul 7, 2015 9:16 AM - Mike Kelly: kinda pressed in the filament so it deformed
Jul 7, 2015 9:16 AM - Mike Kelly: really annoying
Jul 7, 2015 9:17 AM - jbigler1986: Gonna power it externally for now
Jul 7, 2015 9:17 AM - daniel871: Is that on a Wade setup, JB? Because now I'm worried about my printer doing the same thing once I get going again.
Jul 7, 2015 9:17 AM - Mike Kelly: is this bowden still
Jul 7, 2015 9:17 AM - Mike Kelly: wade is fine since the motor is isolated from the hobb
Jul 7, 2015 9:17 AM - jbigler1986: Yeah. Geared stepper. Working beautiful until then
Jul 7, 2015 9:18 AM - jbigler1986: Gonna put a bunch of thermal paste on it too
Jul 7, 2015 9:18 AM - jbigler1986: Suck the heat away from that bitch
Jul 7, 2015 9:19 AM - Mike Kelly: i really need to place a robotdigg order and get some stepper heatsinks
Jul 7, 2015 9:19 AM - daniel871: Well, I'm going to eat lunch and give this game a try: http://worldofwarships.com/
Jul 7, 2015 9:19 AM - donhuevo: I have a 40 mounted to the underside of the box the stepper sits in [IMG]
    Jul 7, 2015 9:19 AM - jbigler1986: I need to buy a bunch of stuff feom there
    Jul 7, 2015 9:19 AM - jbigler1986: Need = want
    Jul 7, 2015 9:19 AM - Mike Kelly: heh
Jul 7, 2015 9:20 AM - Mike Kelly: maybe we can bundle our order to save on shipping
    Jul 7, 2015 9:20 AM - jbigler1986: Not a bad idea. I just want a few things
Jul 7, 2015 9:21 AM - Mike Kelly: i'd been holding off till i found out more on the linear steppers

Jul 7, 2015 9:22 AM - Mike Kelly: i can't say for sure, but he was mentioning giving active forum members them for cost
Jul 7, 2015 9:22 AM - Mike Kelly: which the number i heard was way better than robotdigg even before shipping
    Jul 7, 2015 9:22 AM - jbigler1986: Interesting

Jul 7, 2015 9:52 AM - Mike Kelly: lol yeah if you like wobbly printers
Jul 7, 2015 9:52 AM - Mike Glass: no way to stabilize though
    Jul 7, 2015 9:52 AM - jbigler1986: there is always a way
Jul 7, 2015 9:53 AM - donhuevo: he said he printed stabilizers that made him lose 3 inches off his build height. from 17 inches down to 14
    Jul 7, 2015 9:55 AM - Mike Kelly: that's a lot
    Jul 7, 2015 9:56 AM - donhuevo: agreed

Jul 7, 2015 10:22 AM - donhuevo: he saw jb was running around topless and that was enough
Jul 7, 2015 10:24 AM - donhuevo: my poor dogs are still upset with me about making them listen to Na Na butcher Rollin' in the Deep
Jul 7, 2015 10:25 AM - jbigler1986: Haha. That would be ridiculous if that was the case. Not like im pissed off at him or anything. Was just annoyed
    Jul 7, 2015 10:26 AM - jbigler1986: I didnt listen to that don. Thankfully
    Jul 7, 2015 10:26 AM - donhuevo: yep. leaves a scar
Jul 7, 2015 10:27 AM - jbigler1986: My eyes are scarred from the pic you posted
    Jul 7, 2015 10:28 AM - donhuevo: I can't even remember why I posted that.
Jul 7, 2015 10:29 AM - Mike Kelly: to scar us for life

Jul 7, 2015 10:44 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: anything you guys want to talk about?
Jul 7, 2015 10:46 AM - Mike Kelly: can we discuss the upcoming change to the extruder?
Jul 7, 2015 10:46 AM - Mike Kelly: i'd like to see a picture of it
    Jul 7, 2015 10:46 AM - jim3Dbot: Not try'in to suck-up, but luv myR1 :)
    Jul 7, 2015 10:47 AM - daniel871: I'm actually mildly disappointed in my R1.
Jul 7, 2015 10:47 AM - Mike Glass: thats what happens when you mess with it too much. Im all stock and love mine.
Jul 7, 2015 10:47 AM - daniel871: My issues are more about finding so many things not tightened down properly in the bottom of the case and not so much anything else.
Jul 7, 2015 10:48 AM - Mike Glass: yea first thing I did when I got mine, everyting was loose, but lets you learn more about your printer when you do all that.
Jul 7, 2015 10:48 AM - Mike Glass: My case was not even put on properly
Jul 7, 2015 10:48 AM - Mike Kelly: jerry's in china making sure the new batch of printers is th best yet
Jul 7, 2015 10:49 AM - daniel871: That would only be a plus if you were warned about it ahead of time.
Jul 7, 2015 10:49 AM - Mike Glass: yea jerry was not happy when I showed him.
Jul 7, 2015 10:50 AM - daniel871: I know I keep asking this, but Jerry = Barnacules or am I getting people confused?
Jul 7, 2015 10:50 AM - Mike Glass: haha no
Jul 7, 2015 10:50 AM - Mike Kelly: I actually can't recall Jerry's last name but no, he works at robo
    Jul 7, 2015 10:50 AM - donhuevo: Robo3DJerry<>Barnacules Jerry
Jul 7, 2015 10:51 AM - Mike Glass: no no
Jul 7, 2015 10:51 AM - daniel871: I was going to say a trip to China would probably do that guy some good after his video not too long ago about being all depressed/etc.
    Jul 7, 2015 10:52 AM - daniel871: Also I'm jealous of that Beast build.
Jul 7, 2015 10:52 AM - jim3Dbot: OK, Jared, Subway spokesmen raided by FBI & State today...child porn...surprised face
Jul 7, 2015 10:52 AM - daniel871: Yeah, anyone that's been on the internet longer than 5 years knows that guy was a pedophile.
    Jul 7, 2015 10:53 AM - Mike Kelly: bahahaha
Jul 7, 2015 10:53 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: Jerry is in China yes
Jul 7, 2015 10:54 AM - daniel871: Jokes about him running sketchy porn websites before, during and after his Subway spokeman stuff.
Jul 7, 2015 10:54 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: along with a professional quality control company
Jul 7, 2015 10:54 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: he said these 3D printers are the best he has seen yet by a long shot
Jul 7, 2015 10:54 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: only issues on 2 out of 180 in the first batch of testing
Jul 7, 2015 10:56 AM - donhuevo: are the linear steppers being used yet?
    Jul 7, 2015 10:56 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: yes
Jul 7, 2015 10:57 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: every one of these machines being produced in this batch have linear steppers
Jul 7, 2015 10:57 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: increased the BOM by $20 but it is a must
    Jul 7, 2015 10:57 AM - donhuevo: that'll make everyone's lives better
    Jul 7, 2015 10:57 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: oh ye
    Jul 7, 2015 10:57 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: yes8
Jul 7, 2015 10:58 AM - Mike Kelly: did the shipment arrive today?
Jul 7, 2015 10:58 AM - daniel871: Any thoughts on the work Waldo is doing trying to incorporate the Robo firmware into the newer releases of Marlin?
    Jul 7, 2015 10:59 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: not today
Jul 7, 2015 10:59 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: they are shipping from china in a week
Jul 7, 2015 11:00 AM - Mike Kelly: i meant the linear steppers, harry was saying they're arriving today
Jul 7, 2015 11:00 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: oh yes they should be
Jul 7, 2015 11:01 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: I do not know who waldo is
Jul 7, 2015 11:01 AM - Harry: They arrived Mike
Jul 7, 2015 11:01 AM - Mike Kelly: sweet, really looking forward to those
Jul 7, 2015 11:01 AM - Mike Kelly: ribbing is my bane
Jul 7, 2015 11:02 AM - donhuevo: not having to pay omc's shipping is huge too
Jul 7, 2015 11:02 AM - Mike Kelly: and i can go back to my stock idlers
Jul 7, 2015 11:04 AM - donhuevo: you could always move to my idlers
Jul 7, 2015 11:04 AM - Mike Kelly: the new linear steppers use the stock 13mm hex nut style
    Jul 7, 2015 11:05 AM - daniel871: For reference: http://community.robo3d.com/index.p...are-upgrade-1-0-3-use-at-your-own-peril.5806/
Jul 7, 2015 11:06 AM - donhuevo: is the hex nut POM or some other low friction material?
Jul 7, 2015 11:07 AM - Stephen Capistron: What are your plans for nozzle sizes?
    Jul 7, 2015 11:09 AM - Mike Kelly: that's a good question don
Jul 7, 2015 11:10 AM - Harry: Stephen are you asking us or Mike?
    Jul 7, 2015 11:22 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: it is brass?
Jul 7, 2015 11:22 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: cancel out the question mark
Jul 7, 2015 11:22 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: it is a brass hex nut
    Jul 7, 2015 11:23 AM - Mike Kelly: what's the pitch?
Jul 7, 2015 11:23 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: not sure exactly on the specifics of that with the lead screw
    Jul 7, 2015 11:23 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: 2mm
    Jul 7, 2015 11:23 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: I believe
Jul 7, 2015 11:24 AM - Mike Kelly: that's kinda what i expected, need a new firmware then

Jul 7, 2015 11:24 AM - donhuevo: are we calling this version the 1.7?
    Jul 7, 2015 11:25 AM - Mike Kelly: that's a versioning i came up with
    Jul 7, 2015 11:26 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: It has a new firmware
Jul 7, 2015 11:26 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: all of this will be in the instructions if we sell the leadscrews
Jul 7, 2015 11:26 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: for new users, it is already on there and all they do is choose R1 plus when setting up their printer
Jul 7, 2015 11:27 AM - Mike Kelly: will you be discontinuing the "regular" R1 or will it sell alongside the R1+?
Jul 7, 2015 11:29 AM - Stephen Capistron: Mike alluded to a new extruder design. I was just wondering what nozzles sizes you were going with
Jul 7, 2015 11:30 AM - Mike Kelly: oh no same hot end
    Jul 7, 2015 11:30 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: regular R1 will be discontinued
    Jul 7, 2015 11:30 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: R1 plus will take over
Jul 7, 2015 11:30 AM - Stephen Capistron: Ah. Nevermind
Jul 7, 2015 11:30 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: at the same price point
Jul 7, 2015 11:30 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: well the extruder is changing not the hot end
Jul 7, 2015 11:30 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: the extruder is changing in that there is a quick release latch for the hot end
Jul 7, 2015 11:31 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: same hot end and nozzle sizes
Jul 7, 2015 11:31 AM - Mike Kelly: got a picture? really curious how it'll work
Jul 7, 2015 11:31 AM - donhuevo: it'll be nice to melt down the excess helical couplers and turn them into something useful
    Jul 7, 2015 11:32 AM - Mike Kelly: like a paper weight
Jul 7, 2015 11:32 AM - donhuevo: lots of Yodas maybe
Jul 7, 2015 11:32 AM - Stephen Capistron: Don's favorite hand paper weight
    Jul 7, 2015 11:32 AM - donhuevo: oooh
    Jul 7, 2015 11:32 AM - donhuevo: that'd be perfect
Jul 7, 2015 11:34 AM - daniel871: Does the carriage itself change, or is this just a modified Wade extruder mounted on the carriage?
Jul 7, 2015 11:34 AM - Harry: One second Mike
Jul 7, 2015 11:34 AM - Harry: Getting pictures for you
Jul 7, 2015 11:35 AM - Harry: Daniel, the gregs wade is a little different but otherwise nothign else is changed
Jul 7, 2015 11:36 AM - daniel871: I'd be interested in the STL for that so I could print and upgrade my own. I hate those two screws that are currently used.
    Jul 7, 2015 11:36 AM - Harry: download.robo3d.com/pictures/WadeLatch3.jpeg
    Jul 7, 2015 11:36 AM - Harry: download.robo3d.com/pictures/WadeLatch2.jpeg
    Jul 7, 2015 11:36 AM - Harry: download.robo3d.com/pictures/WadeLatch1.jpeg
Jul 7, 2015 11:36 AM - donhuevo: I always thought of that setup as trying to write with a pencil you're holding by the eraser with a pair of chopsticks
Jul 7, 2015 11:37 AM - Harry: We are going to release the STL for the new gregs wade as soon as the guide is up
Jul 7, 2015 11:38 AM - donhuevo: nicely done guys
    Jul 7, 2015 11:39 AM - Harry: Thanks donhuevo!
Jul 7, 2015 11:40 AM - Mike Glass: thats sweet
Jul 7, 2015 11:42 AM - donhuevo: future feature request: make the x idler pulley adjustable so you can add tension to the x belt
Jul 7, 2015 11:42 AM - donhuevo: or is it already?
Jul 7, 2015 11:42 AM - Harry: Hmm dont think so yet
    Jul 7, 2015 11:43 AM - Mike Kelly: that's pretty slick
Jul 7, 2015 11:44 AM - Mike Kelly: and it fits under the big gear?
    Jul 7, 2015 11:44 AM - donhuevo: elegant even
Jul 7, 2015 11:46 AM - Mike Kelly: i wish i knew why the shoutbox sometimes randomly decides to stop updating
Jul 7, 2015 11:48 AM - WheresWaldo: I was lurking, but I must ask, when you say "It has a new firmware" do you mean the latest version of Marlin, or just the same 1.0.0 with an updates Configuration.h or some other firmware?
Jul 7, 2015 11:48 AM - Mike Kelly: they most likely just changed the Z steps
    Jul 7, 2015 11:48 AM - donhuevo: ^
Jul 7, 2015 11:49 AM - Harry: Yea perfectly under
Jul 7, 2015 11:49 AM - Mike Kelly: very cool
Jul 7, 2015 11:50 AM - WheresWaldo: So no to new firmware, and I am not wasting time trying to get 1.0.3 working on the Robo, especially since we are at the last hurdle.
Jul 7, 2015 11:50 AM - Mike Kelly: it's not clear what upgrades have been implemented in marlin to bother upgrading
Jul 7, 2015 11:51 AM - WheresWaldo: It mostly has to do with thermal protection and some updates to the way auto-tramming work.
Jul 7, 2015 11:52 AM - donhuevo: imagine how much room there could be for better look-ahead and other features if they took out all the 'one-size-fits-all' code
Jul 7, 2015 11:52 AM - WheresWaldo: The Marlin devs are very bad at writing documentation.
Jul 7, 2015 11:52 AM - donhuevo: have a delta marlin, a cartesian marlin and a core xy marlin
Jul 7, 2015 11:53 AM - WheresWaldo: @don, yeah but all the other firmwares are trying to do the same thing, "one size fits all" seems to be the way they all want to go
Jul 7, 2015 11:54 AM - donhuevo: these little arduinos are already mostly full. to be more feature-rich, it's time to fork
Jul 7, 2015 11:54 AM - Mike Kelly: robo added a custom thermal runaway check
Jul 7, 2015 11:54 AM - Mike Kelly: i think ziggy made it for them
Jul 7, 2015 11:54 AM - daniel871: The way I understand it, Waldo, your work will still be good for everyone else not buying new Robos.
Jul 7, 2015 11:54 AM - WheresWaldo: @don, a lot of the improvements are directed at Delta and coreXY
Jul 7, 2015 11:54 AM - Mike Kelly: that's been in the firmware since june-14
    Jul 7, 2015 11:57 AM - donhuevo: I still say fork it
Jul 7, 2015 11:57 AM - WheresWaldo: MK, here is my problem with one offs, if the code isn't maintained by the same person would modified it, or its not completely documented, it can be nearly impossible to fit it into new code that might be of benefit. I don't see Ziggy around much here, and I have only seen an occasional post in the Marlin GITHUB by him.
Jul 7, 2015 11:58 AM - WheresWaldo: Althoug the stuff he did on Babysteps is much better documented than the Marlin code in general.
Jul 7, 2015 12:01 PM - donhuevo: Harry, you haven't forgotten about the Dark Theme CSS have you?
    Jul 7, 2015 12:06 PM - Mike Glass: Apparently
    Jul 7, 2015 12:11 PM - jbigler1986: Should i push or pull the on the nema 17
    Jul 7, 2015 12:12 PM - donhuevo: don't think it matters. I push
    Jul 7, 2015 12:13 PM - jbigler1986: Got 40 x40x20. Should do thr trick
    Jul 7, 2015 12:14 PM - donhuevo: definitely
Jul 7, 2015 12:14 PM - Mike Kelly: nothing exceeds like excess
Jul 7, 2015 12:14 PM - donhuevo: an excessful statement
Jul 7, 2015 12:15 PM - Mike Kelly: don when do you get your smoothieboard
    Jul 7, 2015 12:16 PM - donhuevo: wish I knew
Jul 7, 2015 12:16 PM - Mike Kelly: waldo we just need a compelling argument to convince robo to upgrade their marlin
Jul 7, 2015 12:16 PM - Mike Kelly: i didn't know enough to explain why they should
    Jul 7, 2015 12:17 PM - Harry: Hey
Jul 7, 2015 12:17 PM - Harry: Donhuevo, its on my to-dolist but unfortunately not a priority at the moment
    Jul 7, 2015 12:18 PM - donhuevo: understood.
Jul 7, 2015 12:23 PM - donhuevo: if you wanted to send me that particular css file, I can tweak it and return it to you
    Jul 7, 2015 12:24 PM - donhuevo: just sayin'
Jul 7, 2015 12:24 PM - donhuevo: I seem to be the only one irritated by it so it probably should be my responsibility
    Jul 7, 2015 12:29 PM - jbigler1986: Lol. I haven't even looked at it
Jul 7, 2015 12:30 PM - donhuevo: it goes a little something like this... [IMG]
Jul 7, 2015 12:33 PM - daniel871: I'm using the regular default color scheme. Probably be easier to just remove the option.
    Jul 7, 2015 12:34 PM - donhuevo: oh it's soooo fn bright
Jul 7, 2015 12:36 PM - donhuevo: photoshop cs6's interface is even darker. much easier on the eyes
    Jul 7, 2015 12:39 PM - daniel871: Do you use Chrome?
    Jul 7, 2015 12:39 PM - daniel871: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/deluminate/iebboopaeangfpceklajfohhbpkkfiaa?hl=en-US
Jul 7, 2015 12:39 PM - daniel871: Extension that darkens bright website color schemes.
Jul 7, 2015 12:39 PM - toy: 3 more days left of teaching woohoo
    Jul 7, 2015 12:40 PM - donhuevo: that's interesting daniel. I'll check that out
Jul 7, 2015 12:41 PM - daniel871: There are several others that do similar things in different ways (basically different approaches to the same goal) that you can try if that one doesn't work just right.
Jul 7, 2015 12:42 PM - daniel871: Hacker Vision is another extension that people try, but it mainly comes down to perception when running each one.
Jul 7, 2015 12:42 PM - daniel871: Hey Toy, did you see that Beast robo thread?
    Jul 7, 2015 12:42 PM - daniel871: http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?threads/the-makings-of-a-beast.6141/
Jul 7, 2015 12:45 PM - donhuevo: deluminate is working for me
    Jul 7, 2015 12:45 PM - toy: not bad... i like metalrobo better =)
    Jul 7, 2015 12:45 PM - toy: and ui think i found my new y-axis http://www.ebay.com/itm/THK-LM-Guid...418?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2edc19c2da
Jul 7, 2015 12:46 PM - toy: i think the 10mm pitch is to slow.... 20mm pitch with 1/32 stepper drivers might be the way to go
Jul 7, 2015 12:47 PM - toy: which makes me wonder why the smoothie board doesnt come with 1/32 stepper drivers

Jul 7, 2015 12:47 PM - Mike Kelly: if you do that i think you should remove the extruder carriage and put on an end mill
    Jul 7, 2015 12:49 PM - daniel871: Man. http://www.robobeast.co.za/robobeast.html
Jul 7, 2015 12:49 PM - daniel871: Look at the options on that and the "standard" machine.
Jul 7, 2015 12:49 PM - daniel871: Built-in backup battery that can support 20 hours of print time.
Jul 7, 2015 12:52 PM - daniel871: Not sure how realistic that is, but man that would be nice.
Jul 7, 2015 1:00 PM - toy: i offered dy-global 150$ for the acuator... lets see if he accepts
Jul 7, 2015 1:01 PM - jbigler1986: anyone know the wiring for the nema 17 with 6 pin connector? gonna wire the fan into the stepper wiring
    Jul 7, 2015 1:02 PM - toy: 2 pins are the center tap's
    Jul 7, 2015 1:02 PM - toy: really just a 4 wire stepper with 2 center taps
Jul 7, 2015 1:02 PM - toy: u dont need the center taps
    Jul 7, 2015 1:03 PM - jbigler1986: it only uses 4 of the pins
Jul 7, 2015 1:03 PM - toy: i would avoid that jb, might to much noise on the lines
    Jul 7, 2015 1:04 PM - toy: yup only 4 pins
Jul 7, 2015 1:05 PM - jbigler1986: you think adding a 12v to the lines would be an issue?
    Jul 7, 2015 1:06 PM - toy: i clipped my 6 wire steppers down to 4 wires
Jul 7, 2015 1:06 PM - toy: why not just run the fan seperate
Jul 7, 2015 1:06 PM - Aaron Mitchell: jb...do hyou have a model number on the motor?
    Jul 7, 2015 1:06 PM - toy: still be a total of 6 wires
Jul 7, 2015 1:08 PM - jbigler1986: bc i don't want another long ass wire going from my geared stepper to the robo
    Jul 7, 2015 1:08 PM - toy: still be a total of 6 wires
Jul 7, 2015 1:09 PM - jbigler1986: still only 4 would be going to the robo
Jul 7, 2015 1:10 PM - toy: 4 wires to the driver... trim the center tap wires ( u will never need them longest your using a bipolar stepper driver)
Jul 7, 2015 1:11 PM - toy: i would not power the fan off the stepper motor 4 wires
    Jul 7, 2015 1:12 PM - jbigler1986: i have a molex external power supply but it's being a slut for some reason
    Jul 7, 2015 1:13 PM - jbigler1986: i can use a phone charger but then it's only 5v
Jul 7, 2015 1:13 PM - toy: whats the fan for?
    Jul 7, 2015 1:13 PM - jbigler1986: to cool the geared stepper
    Jul 7, 2015 1:13 PM - toy: hmm
    Jul 7, 2015 1:14 PM - jbigler1986: 40x40x20
Jul 7, 2015 1:14 PM - toy: is that thew motor size?
    Jul 7, 2015 1:14 PM - Mike Kelly: https://buildyourcnc.com/Item/elect...-motors-stepping_motor-62_ozin#prettyPhoto/1/ yellow and white don't matter
    Jul 7, 2015 1:14 PM - Mike Kelly: [IMG]
Jul 7, 2015 1:15 PM - toy: find the yellow and white and cut them off about an inch from the motor
Jul 7, 2015 1:16 PM - toy: my geared stepper never gets hot enough that i would need a fan on it
Jul 7, 2015 1:16 PM - jbigler1986: sorry. forgot the geared stepper only has 4 wires
Jul 7, 2015 1:16 PM - toy: check your pot
    Jul 7, 2015 1:16 PM - jbigler1986: red, green, black, blue
Jul 7, 2015 1:17 PM - Mike Kelly: the two pairs are black and green then Red and blue
Jul 7, 2015 1:17 PM - jbigler1986: i would rather just add the fan. seems as the geared steppers run hot
Jul 7, 2015 1:17 PM - Mike Kelly: white and yellow are only used on bipolar steppers
Jul 7, 2015 1:17 PM - toy: check your pot
Jul 7, 2015 1:17 PM - toy: turn it down just a hair... and your motor wont be as hot
Jul 7, 2015 1:18 PM - Mike Kelly: toy do you have a picure of your bowden tubes
Jul 7, 2015 1:18 PM - toy: yes, they are very short now
Jul 7, 2015 1:18 PM - toy: donbt laugh at the pic... give me a sec
Jul 7, 2015 1:20 PM - toy: i taped the extruder to the back of the robo with blue painters tape lol....... super ghetto robo
    Jul 7, 2015 1:21 PM - Mike Kelly: you're an odd duck
Jul 7, 2015 1:22 PM - toy: i was having jamming problems so i was experiment with what works
Jul 7, 2015 1:22 PM - Mike Kelly: i'm still struggling with that
Jul 7, 2015 1:23 PM - toy: when i get some downtime i will make a permanent mount
    Jul 7, 2015 1:23 PM - toy: http://imgur.com/sMy2lVk
Jul 7, 2015 1:23 PM - Mike Kelly: i wish i could do it like that delta that kinda dangles the extruder above the carriage
Jul 7, 2015 1:24 PM - Mike Kelly: and that's working well for you?
Jul 7, 2015 1:25 PM - toy: yup.... ive been thinking on how to mount the extruder so it slaves off the z-axis pulses to keep the distance the same as the carriage rises
    Jul 7, 2015 1:25 PM - toy: yup
Jul 7, 2015 1:25 PM - toy: working pretty good
    Jul 7, 2015 1:26 PM - toy: are u having jamming issues?
Jul 7, 2015 1:27 PM - Mike Kelly: i get under extrusion after retractions
Jul 7, 2015 1:28 PM - toy: hmm... my problem ( or at least i think it is ) was too much friction on the loner bowden tube run and the extra set of teeth mark in the filament was too much for press fit connector to hold
Jul 7, 2015 1:29 PM - toy: and the tube would get shredded by the press fit as it popped out under the pressure
Jul 7, 2015 1:29 PM - Mike Kelly: my theory is there's too much constriction upon leaving the extruder and when it enters into the hot end
    Jul 7, 2015 1:30 PM - Mike Kelly: http://imgur.com/a/COOLD#R6Pq4S4
Jul 7, 2015 1:33 PM - toy: when u say constriction... is the filament being smashed?
    Jul 7, 2015 1:33 PM - Mike Kelly: no i think it's just a little sticky
Jul 7, 2015 1:33 PM - Mike Kelly: like it rubs against the ptfe too much
Jul 7, 2015 1:33 PM - toy: my filament look really round just has teeth marks on both sides
    Jul 7, 2015 1:33 PM - toy: yup
    Jul 7, 2015 1:34 PM - toy: excatly what i was having
Jul 7, 2015 1:34 PM - Mike Kelly: so i'm thinking of doing something closer to a U shape
Jul 7, 2015 1:34 PM - toy: i shortened the bowden tube length to bare minamal as u can see
Jul 7, 2015 1:34 PM - toy: and jamming went away
Jul 7, 2015 1:35 PM - toy: i have yet to contact dondtech
Jul 7, 2015 1:35 PM - Mike Kelly: i think length is less critical than curvature
    Jul 7, 2015 1:35 PM - toy: bondtech
Jul 7, 2015 1:35 PM - Mike Kelly: like don's tube is 1m and he has no issues
Jul 7, 2015 1:35 PM - Mike Kelly: at least for rigid filaments
Jul 7, 2015 1:35 PM - Mike Kelly: for more flexible stuff you'd want a shorter tube to minimize the required supplied pressure
Jul 7, 2015 1:35 PM - toy: i know, my fix isnt the correct one, but it works and gets prints out to the kids
    Jul 7, 2015 1:35 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah
Jul 7, 2015 1:36 PM - Mike Kelly: i tried using some CA glue on my thermistor connections. I hope that means no more connection issues
Jul 7, 2015 1:36 PM - toy: on a strict printing schedule and cant have any downtime... or else the kids get all mad at me lol
Jul 7, 2015 1:37 PM - toy: what is don running for an extruder?
Jul 7, 2015 1:37 PM - Mike Kelly: his own design
Jul 7, 2015 1:38 PM - Mike Kelly: he uses a geared stepper with a 8mm drive shaft and basically a mk8 hobbed gear
Jul 7, 2015 1:39 PM - toy: once i get some down time i will reattacxh my old ezstruder and see if i still get jams withg a longer bowden tube run
Jul 7, 2015 1:40 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah, looks like i'll be getting some geared linear steppers in a few days which'll give me just enough time to get printing then tear down again
Jul 7, 2015 1:40 PM - toy: i still think it has to do with the teeth marks left in the filament causing friction problem and how it enters the hotend
    Jul 7, 2015 1:40 PM - toy: nice
Jul 7, 2015 1:40 PM - toy: i got screwed on my linear stepper purchase
    Jul 7, 2015 1:40 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah that's a bummer
    Jul 7, 2015 1:40 PM - Mike Glass: I hate screeding
Jul 7, 2015 1:41 PM - Mike Glass: they gonna actual ship those out then MK
Jul 7, 2015 1:41 PM - Mike Kelly: never done it before
Jul 7, 2015 1:41 PM - Mike Kelly: also just learned a word
    Jul 7, 2015 1:41 PM - Mike Kelly: that's the rumor
    Jul 7, 2015 1:42 PM - Mike Kelly: [IMG]
Jul 7, 2015 1:43 PM - Mike Glass: so obviously jerry is gone to china, who is the contact?
    Jul 7, 2015 1:43 PM - Mike Kelly: harry
Jul 7, 2015 1:43 PM - Mike Glass: He looks pissed
Jul 7, 2015 1:43 PM - Mike Kelly: upset beagle is sick of your shit

Jul 7, 2015 1:44 PM - Mike Glass: you really shouldnt do that in the car with the dog
Jul 7, 2015 1:44 PM - Mike Kelly: or in the car in general
Jul 7, 2015 1:45 PM - Mike Glass: im sick of working on this project, and working with this junk cedar.
Jul 7, 2015 1:47 PM - Mike Kelly: i've really got to get around to finishing my table
Jul 7, 2015 1:47 PM - Mike Glass: for you MPCNC?
Jul 7, 2015 1:47 PM - Mike Kelly: no the awning table
    Jul 7, 2015 1:48 PM - Mike Glass: awe
Jul 7, 2015 1:48 PM - Mike Kelly: i have a table for the mpcnc, just need to clean the shit off it
Jul 7, 2015 1:49 PM - Mike Glass: you going to use the new feet?
Jul 7, 2015 1:49 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah probably
Jul 7, 2015 1:50 PM - Mike Glass: I have 4 more to print but want to put a bigger hole for bolts for the bottoms.
Jul 7, 2015 1:50 PM - Mike Glass: I may expand mine to full length also when I put them on.
Jul 7, 2015 1:51 PM - Mike Kelly: [IMG]wouldn't want to actually use this though
Jul 7, 2015 1:52 PM - Mike Glass: would be nice for a bon fire..lol
    Jul 7, 2015 1:54 PM - Mike Kelly:
Jul 7, 2015 1:59 PM - Mike Glass: haha I remember watching that.

    Jul 7, 2015 2:22 PM - jbigler1986: Junkyard wars?
    Jul 7, 2015 2:23 PM - Aaron Mitchell: Here's what I do:
Jul 7, 2015 2:24 PM - Aaron Mitchell: MY students, actually...I just sit and watch :)
    Jul 7, 2015 2:25 PM - Mike Kelly: neat
    Jul 7, 2015 2:25 PM - Aaron Mitchell: ...not quite as fast-action in this year's game :/
    Jul 7, 2015 2:27 PM - Mike Kelly:
Jul 7, 2015 2:29 PM - Aaron Mitchell: Proof that titanium bends :)
Jul 7, 2015 2:33 PM - daniel871: I have Battlebots on my DVR, but haven't watched it yet.
Jul 7, 2015 2:33 PM - daniel871: Heard someone came up with something that defeats the Wedge carts this time around.
Jul 7, 2015 2:34 PM - daniel871: Also Nightmare came back and actually made another bot explode.

Jul 7, 2015 2:38 PM - Mike Kelly: lol holy shit
    Jul 7, 2015 2:38 PM - Mike Kelly: kaboom:
Jul 7, 2015 2:47 PM - Mike Kelly: is counter revolution made of aluminum?!
Jul 7, 2015 2:49 PM - insomniac_lemon: Remember how I said my part fans don't work? Well, it actually works perfectly fine when hooked up to a 9v battery, so I don't think there is a problem with the wiring
Jul 7, 2015 2:50 PM - insomniac_lemon: I tinned the wires, which didn't seem to help either. All I can think of is there is a problem either with the firmware or repetier, or possible the hardware (the board itself)
Jul 7, 2015 2:52 PM - toy: use multimeter, check outputs
Jul 7, 2015 2:53 PM - insomniac_lemon: I did do that, but I wasn't getting anything most of the time, but it could be that repetier wasn't turning the fans on correctly
Jul 7, 2015 2:54 PM - toy: turn the fan on in repetier, then check the outputs
Jul 7, 2015 2:54 PM - insomniac_lemon: Also if I was getting voltage I don't know why the fans wouldn't run considering I have confirmed they work with voltage
    Jul 7, 2015 2:54 PM - insomniac_lemon: That's what I did
Jul 7, 2015 2:58 PM - Mike Kelly: polarity maybe
Jul 7, 2015 2:58 PM - toy: it should run either way
Jul 7, 2015 2:58 PM - donhuevo: not dc fans no
Jul 7, 2015 2:58 PM - jbigler1986: Sounds like the connection at the ramp
    Jul 7, 2015 2:58 PM - Mike Kelly: no they won't
    Jul 7, 2015 2:58 PM - Mike Kelly: they're polarity sensitive
Jul 7, 2015 2:59 PM - toy: i thought the poilarity just reversed the the directrion
    Jul 7, 2015 2:59 PM - Mike Kelly: nope
    Jul 7, 2015 2:59 PM - jbigler1986: Nope
Jul 7, 2015 2:59 PM - jbigler1986: They just wont work at all
    Jul 7, 2015 2:59 PM - donhuevo: ^^
    Jul 7, 2015 3:00 PM - jbigler1986: Wam bam
Jul 7, 2015 3:00 PM - insomniac_lemon: I thought that too, I tried it the wires reversed and it didn't help
Jul 7, 2015 3:01 PM - Mike Kelly: plug something else that runs on 12v into it
Jul 7, 2015 3:01 PM - insomniac_lemon: Plus on the 9v battery red is positive, just like how the Robo arduino video said red should be
    Jul 7, 2015 3:02 PM - jbigler1986: Red is almost always positive
Jul 7, 2015 3:02 PM - insomniac_lemon: Well yeah, just re-affirming that is still the case so it's clear the wiring isn't wrong
Jul 7, 2015 3:03 PM - jbigler1986: Man i need to get motivated and wire up this fan
Jul 7, 2015 3:03 PM - toy: i learn somthing new eveyday =) most fans have polarity protection to protect them from shorting out...hmm interesting
Jul 7, 2015 3:03 PM - jbigler1986: MK im just gonna run it to my pc's molex. To lazy to wire it to the robo psu
Jul 7, 2015 3:04 PM - jbigler1986: Although that will be the way i go
Jul 7, 2015 3:05 PM - jbigler1986: Bought a spool of ABfnS while at frys for emergencies

    Jul 7, 2015 3:12 PM - toy: saved 25% woohoo
Jul 7, 2015 3:13 PM - toy: now i just need to figure out how to mount the bed to it
Jul 7, 2015 3:14 PM - toy: and yes i am addicted to buying linear components for no other reason then they just look pretty awesome
Jul 7, 2015 3:19 PM - toy: but this should also increase my y-axis to 370mm or just about the entire bed.... i am excited
    Jul 7, 2015 3:23 PM - Mike Kelly: that's a nice drive mechanism
Jul 7, 2015 3:23 PM - Mike Kelly: man robotdigg updated their website now all the stuff i had saved in the cart is gone
    Jul 7, 2015 3:26 PM - jbigler1986: Nooooo
Jul 7, 2015 3:26 PM - Mike Kelly: they have a wishlist now though that's nice
    Jul 7, 2015 3:28 PM - toy: thx mk, i took a gamble with the 20mm lead over 10mm
    Jul 7, 2015 3:28 PM - toy: i dont think 10mm is fast enough
    Jul 7, 2015 3:30 PM - toy: 20mm / 3200 steps
    Jul 7, 2015 3:30 PM - toy: .00625mm per step

    Jul 7, 2015 3:35 PM - jbigler1986: I will solder the electronics
Jul 7, 2015 3:36 PM - Mike Glass: always wanted to build one, hey I have tons of batteries. Lithium Ion packs.
Jul 7, 2015 3:37 PM - toy: my idea is to use an ICE and swing a 60 pound hammer around at 200+ mph
Jul 7, 2015 3:38 PM - toy: i dont think anything can survive a hit from that
    Jul 7, 2015 3:48 PM - jbigler1986: mk you around
    Jul 7, 2015 4:02 PM - jbigler1986: Nvm. I figured it out

Jul 7, 2015 4:27 PM - Droid: anyone on here use the TR8*8 lead screws?
Jul 7, 2015 4:27 PM - jbigler1986: Awesome MK. Wish they were in the US
Jul 7, 2015 4:30 PM - jbigler1986: Link to the ones you are looking at?

Jul 7, 2015 4:31 PM - Droid: already got them 350mm leadscrew stepper from robotdigg
    Jul 7, 2015 4:31 PM - jbigler1986: I use them droid
    Jul 7, 2015 4:33 PM - Droid: im getting ready to flash my arduino o_O , the z steps/mm is 400 correct
    Jul 7, 2015 4:33 PM - jbigler1986: Yep
    Jul 7, 2015 4:33 PM - Droid: http://www.robotdigg.com/product/31/NEMA17+Threaded+Rod,+350mm+length+Tr8*8+Acme+Leadscrew+
Jul 7, 2015 4:34 PM - jbigler1986: That picture sucks. Lol. Looks like a smooth rod
Jul 7, 2015 4:35 PM - Droid: lol thread so fine.......
    Jul 7, 2015 4:36 PM - jbigler1986: Wait. Take a picture of your leadscrew
Jul 7, 2015 4:37 PM - Droid: i used the end caps from the new steppers on the body of the old motor, bearings on new one were bigger, bottom part of the stepper has a "cap" that screws in to get rid of any vertical slop
Jul 7, 2015 4:38 PM - jbigler1986: Vertical play in the stepper isnt a big deal. The force on the z is always pressing down. So its not a big deal
Jul 7, 2015 4:39 PM - jbigler1986: However i want to the the actual lead screws bc 400 steps may he wrong
    Jul 7, 2015 4:41 PM - Droid: o_O
    Jul 7, 2015 4:50 PM - Droid: steps per mm = (motor_steps_per_rev * driver_microstep) / thread_pitch*starts
    Jul 7, 2015 4:50 PM - Droid: Tr8*8 2mm pitch 4 starts, 400 steps per mm, 1 step 0.0025mm, frequency 4, resolution is 0.000625mm
Jul 7, 2015 5:01 PM - donhuevo: if the pitch is 2mm and there's 200 steps per motor revolution then there's 100 steps per mm without using the microstepping. so if you go x16 microstepping then your steps per mm becomes 1600
Jul 7, 2015 5:02 PM - donhuevo: I'm thinking your carried your one upside down
Jul 7, 2015 5:03 PM - Droid: thats not my math
Jul 7, 2015 5:03 PM - donhuevo: no, I was talking to jb. 400 steps is wrong
    Jul 7, 2015 5:04 PM - Droid: 1600 seems way to fast
    Jul 7, 2015 5:04 PM - donhuevo: steps isn't speed
Jul 7, 2015 5:04 PM - donhuevo: just steps per revolution
Jul 7, 2015 5:04 PM - donhuevo: sorry, steps per mm of travel
    Jul 7, 2015 5:05 PM - Droid: you got me o_O
    Jul 7, 2015 5:05 PM - jbigler1986: mine is 400
    Jul 7, 2015 5:05 PM - jbigler1986: yeah thats why i said wait
    Jul 7, 2015 5:05 PM - Droid:
Jul 7, 2015 5:06 PM - donhuevo: while we're hunting for our slide rules... I'm printing my first squinty cup
    Jul 7, 2015 5:06 PM - Droid: [IMG]
    Jul 7, 2015 5:08 PM - Droid: [IMG]
Jul 7, 2015 5:08 PM - donhuevo: my math is for 2mm pitch, 8mm pitch would be 400 after 16x microstepping
    Jul 7, 2015 5:09 PM - Droid: [IMG]
    Jul 7, 2015 5:11 PM - Droid: [IMG]
    Jul 7, 2015 5:13 PM - jbigler1986: don knows more than i do
Jul 7, 2015 5:14 PM - donhuevo: jb, what's the pitch of your screws?
Jul 7, 2015 5:15 PM - Droid: mine are TR8*8 first 8 means theyre 8mm diameter, second 8 means 8mm Lead means when drive by a stepper driver in Full Step mode, it moves 8mm per revolution.
    Jul 7, 2015 5:15 PM - Droid: from what I can gather
    Jul 7, 2015 5:16 PM - jbigler1986: Um. Let me check
Jul 7, 2015 5:18 PM - donhuevo: ok... the steps value you enter into the firmware is steps per mm of travel. so for you droid, 1/8 of a motor rotation moves your z 1mm. If your motors are 200 steps per revolution then 25 steps would get you 1mm of travel. If you use 16x microstepping with all three jumpers under the stepper driver then you're up to 400 steps per mm
Jul 7, 2015 5:19 PM - jbigler1986: Yes, this is a 1.8 degree AKA 200 full step per rev motor coupled to an 8mm per rev leadscrew. The math is simple. Take your microsteping value (full,1/2,1/4,1/8,1/16,1/32, etc) multiply 200 full steps times the denominator to get microstep/rev then divide 8mm by that value. Example is 1/16th microstepping (the most common) so 200x16=3200 steps/rev. Take 8mm/rev divided by 3200steps/rev so revs cancels out and we end at 400steps/mm assuming 1/16t
Jul 7, 2015 5:19 PM - jbigler1986: His look like mine. Mine are 400 steps
Jul 7, 2015 5:19 PM - donhuevo: so you also have 8mm pitch screws
    Jul 7, 2015 5:20 PM - jbigler1986: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00JTSEFQY#Ask
Jul 7, 2015 5:20 PM - Droid: I havent changed any jumpers from their stock position
Jul 7, 2015 5:20 PM - donhuevo: one thing though, I don't think our ramps shipped with any microstepping jumpers installed. I kinda remember having to put them in when I installed my linear steppers
Jul 7, 2015 5:20 PM - donhuevo: well then maybe the z shipped with the jumpers there.
    Jul 7, 2015 5:21 PM - donhuevo: yep, I'm back to shrugging
    Jul 7, 2015 5:21 PM - donhuevo: I'm a shrugger
Jul 7, 2015 5:22 PM - Droid: well I dialed it down to 400 steps/mm with the lcd last night and it seemed about right
Jul 7, 2015 5:22 PM - donhuevo: then they must be there... http://www.reprap.org/wiki/RAMPS_1.4#Stepper_Driver_Boards
    Jul 7, 2015 5:44 PM - jbigler1986: nooooo
    Jul 7, 2015 5:47 PM - donhuevo: whaaaaaaaat?
    Jul 7, 2015 5:47 PM - jbigler1986: nothing. just felt like it.
    Jul 7, 2015 5:47 PM - donhuevo: haha
Jul 7, 2015 5:51 PM - jbigler1986: i could see ur face saying WTF now
Jul 7, 2015 5:52 PM - jbigler1986: gotta print a new bowden mount to mount the fan properly. it's just mounted directly up against the stepper
Jul 7, 2015 5:53 PM - donhuevo: no, I was actually thinking dick
    Jul 7, 2015 5:56 PM - daniel871: I can't get a single reading on the RAMPS board now. WTF>
    Jul 7, 2015 5:56 PM - donhuevo: are it's led's lighting up?
Jul 7, 2015 5:57 PM - daniel871: Yeah. Two green flashes, and I'll get readings for about thirty seconds and then readings go to zero.
Jul 7, 2015 5:57 PM - daniel871: So not long enough to actually check anything.
Jul 7, 2015 5:57 PM - donhuevo: what are you trying to measure?
Jul 7, 2015 5:57 PM - daniel871: Fans and everything keep running though.
Jul 7, 2015 5:58 PM - daniel871: The fn voltage on stepper drivers.
Jul 7, 2015 5:58 PM - daniel871: I'll get .410-.425 on the X-axis for about a second and then everything drops to zero.
Jul 7, 2015 5:59 PM - Mike Kelly: You'd need an oscilloscope to measure stepper motor voltage
Jul 7, 2015 5:59 PM - donhuevo: not even sure what to tell you there. If you use the software to jog the motors, do they move?
    Jul 7, 2015 5:59 PM - daniel871: http://reprap.org/wiki/Pololu_stepper_driver_board#DRV8825
Jul 7, 2015 6:00 PM - daniel871: I'm afraid to try and move the actual axis motors because the Robo is currently on it's side.
Jul 7, 2015 6:00 PM - daniel871: So that I can actually access the ramps.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:00 PM - jbigler1986: plug in a stepper to the x motor
Jul 7, 2015 6:01 PM - donhuevo: the y is definitely safe to move on it's side
    Jul 7, 2015 6:01 PM - daniel871: Hm.
Jul 7, 2015 6:02 PM - donhuevo: what are we trying to dial in again?
    Jul 7, 2015 6:02 PM - daniel871: The extruder stepper.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:02 PM - daniel871: The Y-axis moves.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:03 PM - daniel871: Huzzah.
Jul 7, 2015 6:03 PM - jbigler1986: one step in the right direction
Jul 7, 2015 6:04 PM - donhuevo: you can always pull your filament out, heat the hot end then run the extruder motor as much as you want
    Jul 7, 2015 6:04 PM - jbigler1986: 600c?
Jul 7, 2015 6:05 PM - donhuevo: I don't know where you buy your crack jb, but I need to meet your dealer
Jul 7, 2015 6:06 PM - donhuevo: theres a little bit of code in the firmware to prevent dangerous (ie unheated) extrusion
Jul 7, 2015 6:07 PM - daniel871: The extruder motor doesn't even try to turn.
Jul 7, 2015 6:07 PM - donhuevo: it won't unless the thermistor senses the hot end is hot enough
Jul 7, 2015 6:07 PM - daniel871: Wait, so I have to heat the nozzle to even try to tune the extruder stepper?
    Jul 7, 2015 6:07 PM - daniel871: Christ.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:07 PM - daniel871: What's the minimum temp?
Jul 7, 2015 6:08 PM - donhuevo: that's why I said pull the filament. All you need is for the hot end to be at temp
    Jul 7, 2015 6:08 PM - daniel871: 175?
    Jul 7, 2015 6:08 PM - daniel871: I have no filament in there.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:08 PM - donhuevo: cool
    Jul 7, 2015 6:08 PM - donhuevo: 175 might work
    Jul 7, 2015 6:08 PM - donhuevo: should work
    Jul 7, 2015 6:08 PM - jbigler1986: You can cold extrude
    Jul 7, 2015 6:09 PM - jbigler1986: Let me get the gcode
Jul 7, 2015 6:09 PM - donhuevo: you have to trick the system with a 1ohm resistor in place of the thermistor or comment out some code
Jul 7, 2015 6:09 PM - daniel871: Waiting on the nozzle to heat up now, then I'll try again.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:10 PM - jbigler1986: Nope
    Jul 7, 2015 6:10 PM - jbigler1986: M302 P1 enables cold extrude
Jul 7, 2015 6:10 PM - Mike Kelly: it's always a strange feeling when someone you knew through online passes away
    Jul 7, 2015 6:11 PM - jbigler1986: M302 P0 disables it. Did it a few weeks ago

Jul 7, 2015 6:11 PM - donhuevo: thank you jb. I did not know
Jul 7, 2015 6:11 PM - donhuevo: yeah, we lost Melody Bliss a ways back
    Jul 7, 2015 6:11 PM - jbigler1986: Yw
Jul 7, 2015 6:12 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah anytime someone you even remotely know passes its a crappy feeling
    Jul 7, 2015 6:12 PM - daniel871: Well fuck.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:13 PM - jbigler1986: ?
Jul 7, 2015 6:13 PM - daniel871: Now I get a power failure of some kind when the nozzle tries to heat up and the system blinks/resets or something.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:13 PM - daniel871: God damnit.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:13 PM - jbigler1986: cold extrude
Jul 7, 2015 6:13 PM - donhuevo: you pulled the ramps fan off to get at stuff I'm guessing. Yeah, try jb's gcode
    Jul 7, 2015 6:14 PM - jbigler1986: send that gcode then send like G1 E10 F90 or something similar
Jul 7, 2015 6:14 PM - daniel871: That fan is still plugged in and I have the room's ceiling fan on full blast.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:14 PM - daniel871: I'll run a USB cable and try that G-code.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:15 PM - daniel871: M302 P1 then G1 E10 F90
    Jul 7, 2015 6:17 PM - jbigler1986: Yep or E50 or whatever
Jul 7, 2015 6:23 PM - daniel871: Got an OK on the M302, then another OK on the G1, but can't seem to get any response from the motor no matter how many times I make a tiny adjustment to the POT and check the reading. It'll go to .280v and then back to zero about as quick as I can get a measurement.
Jul 7, 2015 6:24 PM - daniel871: Even went with E100 just to see if it was a timing thing, no better.
Jul 7, 2015 6:24 PM - daniel871: Going to swap the driver for another one out of the set of five in case the driver itself was bad.
Jul 7, 2015 6:24 PM - donhuevo: forget the multimeter and keep turning up the pot until it moves
Jul 7, 2015 6:24 PM - donhuevo: didn't that same driver move the y motor?
Jul 7, 2015 6:24 PM - daniel871: Spun several revolutions doing that and no result.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:24 PM - daniel871: No.
Jul 7, 2015 6:25 PM - donhuevo: then definitely try another driver. Power off, usb out before swapping
Jul 7, 2015 6:25 PM - daniel871: Well, one of the drivers has a blob of solder between two pins so I'm not even going to try that one.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:25 PM - daniel871: Christ.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:25 PM - daniel871: What a cluster-f
Jul 7, 2015 6:26 PM - donhuevo: it's after hours... maybe you should just say it.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:26 PM - donhuevo: we'll say it with you
    Jul 7, 2015 6:27 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah
Jul 7, 2015 6:28 PM - donhuevo: ok... one time... from the diaphragm...
    Jul 7, 2015 6:28 PM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Jul 7, 2015 6:28 PM - daniel871: Doesn't work as well in text either way.
Jul 7, 2015 6:29 PM - daniel871: Just take it on faith that I'm muttering a steady stream of variations on "cheap chinese pieces of fucking shit"
Jul 7, 2015 6:29 PM - donhuevo: never thought about blowing up its ass
Jul 7, 2015 6:30 PM - donhuevo: that works daniel
Jul 7, 2015 6:30 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah. Gonna print a fan mount for it but gotta print new extruder mount first.
Jul 7, 2015 6:31 PM - jbigler1986: As you can see not anymore room to add a mount to it to help airflow
Jul 7, 2015 6:31 PM - daniel871: Okay, on that G1 command, how much time will I have on F90 to adjust the POT before the command should be done?
Jul 7, 2015 6:32 PM - daniel871: Thinking about going F9 and just looking for the damn thing to move.
Jul 7, 2015 6:32 PM - daniel871: There's a sort of countdown going on S3D in verbose mode but it kind of stops before reaching actual zero and moves pretty damn fast.
Jul 7, 2015 6:33 PM - donhuevo: I think the f is optional. make the e high though that should be mm of theoretical filament
    Jul 7, 2015 6:33 PM - jbigler1986: Yep
    Jul 7, 2015 6:34 PM - daniel871: Went G1 E100, no result on board 3 of 5 after three full slow revolutions.
Jul 7, 2015 6:35 PM - donhuevo: and that was immediately following the cold extrude code?
    Jul 7, 2015 6:36 PM - daniel871: Yep.
Jul 7, 2015 6:36 PM - jbigler1986: Maybe cold extrude didnt work for you
    Jul 7, 2015 6:36 PM - jbigler1986: Heat it up and try
Jul 7, 2015 6:36 PM - daniel871: Fucking delayed shipment over the weekend probably treated them to sitting in the Sun the whole time or something.
Jul 7, 2015 6:36 PM - donhuevo: ok, what about moving the extruder plug to a known good stepper (y)
Jul 7, 2015 6:37 PM - daniel871: Powered off, unplugged USB and trying to relocate. wire length will be kind of tight though.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:42 PM - daniel871: Y-axis spins the motor. WTF.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:42 PM - daniel871: Okay, going to try board 4 of 5.
Jul 7, 2015 6:42 PM - daniel871: God damnit, if everyone of these things is dead I'm going to be pissed.
Jul 7, 2015 6:42 PM - daniel871: Waited five days for them to get here and none of them appear to be any good.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:44 PM - donhuevo: that blows
Jul 7, 2015 6:44 PM - Mike Kelly: i struggled with that too
Jul 7, 2015 6:46 PM - donhuevo: you've never had your ramps separated from the arduino board have you?
Jul 7, 2015 6:46 PM - jbigler1986: Woops i forgot to clean the drive gear after all of those failed prints
Jul 7, 2015 6:47 PM - daniel871: No. This is the most I've done and the only wire plugs I've moved have been the ones we've talked about.
Jul 7, 2015 6:47 PM - donhuevo: that's cool. just going down the list of things to rule out
Jul 7, 2015 6:48 PM - donhuevo: are we connected via usb again?
    Jul 7, 2015 6:49 PM - daniel871: We are now.
Jul 7, 2015 6:49 PM - daniel871: Weird thing though, none of the Axes respond in S3D on Com3.
Jul 7, 2015 6:49 PM - donhuevo: k, just do an M302 with nothing after it to report on the cold extrude status
Jul 7, 2015 6:49 PM - daniel871: But they would on the LCD before.
Jul 7, 2015 6:49 PM - donhuevo: it's possible it jumped com ports
    Jul 7, 2015 6:50 PM - daniel871: Restarted it.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:50 PM - daniel871: Keeps sending M105 and getting OK
Jul 7, 2015 6:50 PM - donhuevo: do your m302 p1 then just m302 to see if it's actually disabled

Jul 7, 2015 6:56 PM - daniel871: Manually telling the extruder to turn should still work though. I remember MC doing that crap so S3D should still do it.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:57 PM - daniel871: God, I don't want to run Matter Control again.

Jul 7, 2015 6:58 PM - daniel871: I have Repetier Host, but have never used it for anything.
    Jul 7, 2015 6:58 PM - donhuevo: no need.
Jul 7, 2015 6:59 PM - donhuevo: it's just that the plain old m302 doesn't seem to be behaving as advertised is all
Jul 7, 2015 6:59 PM - donhuevo: I'm gonna dive into Marlin a little and see what the minimum extrusion temp actually is
Jul 7, 2015 7:00 PM - daniel871: Thought the most recent Robo firmware had a line in it about lowering the minimum temperature.
    Jul 7, 2015 7:01 PM - donhuevo: mine has it at 170
Jul 7, 2015 7:01 PM - daniel871: But it doesn't actually tell you what it is.
    Jul 7, 2015 7:01 PM - daniel871: (in the release notes)
Jul 7, 2015 7:01 PM - daniel871: I'll try to heat it again and then tell it to extrude if it doesn't fault out again.
Jul 7, 2015 7:01 PM - jbigler1986: How low can you set it?
Jul 7, 2015 7:02 PM - daniel871: The LCD will let you set whatever, but I don't know what the real minimum is.
Jul 7, 2015 7:02 PM - donhuevo: as low as you want I suppose. The worst that could happen is that you chew filament at the hob
Jul 7, 2015 7:02 PM - daniel871: Just told S3D to heat it to 75C on the nozzle
    Jul 7, 2015 7:03 PM - daniel871: Red LED on the Ramps
    Jul 7, 2015 7:03 PM - daniel871: And everything stopped.
Jul 7, 2015 7:03 PM - daniel871: Well, it cancelled the heating command.

    Jul 7, 2015 7:03 PM - donhuevo: in configuration.h... [IMG]
    Jul 7, 2015 7:04 PM - daniel871: Well, there it is then.
Jul 7, 2015 7:06 PM - daniel871: Seeing if it'll get there. Apparently the Red light just means heater is on.
    Jul 7, 2015 7:06 PM - daniel871: It's still heating any way.
    Jul 7, 2015 7:06 PM - donhuevo: 75 won't be enough to extrude though. go for 175
    Jul 7, 2015 7:08 PM - daniel871: Not a damn thing.
    Jul 7, 2015 7:08 PM - daniel871: At 175 I'm getting Cold Extrusion Prevented.
    Jul 7, 2015 7:08 PM - daniel871: Hm.
    Jul 7, 2015 7:09 PM - daniel871: That's with the Robo v3 firmware.
    Jul 7, 2015 7:09 PM - donhuevo: hm is right. goto 190
    Jul 7, 2015 7:09 PM - daniel871: Fuck it, 195.
    Jul 7, 2015 7:09 PM - donhuevo: boom
Jul 7, 2015 7:09 PM - daniel871: nozzle is empty and new anyway, might as well cure out the oil in it.
Jul 7, 2015 7:11 PM - daniel871: Code goes, but the motor doesn't turn over 100mm at F20 while slowly turning the pots.
    Jul 7, 2015 7:11 PM - daniel871: The hell.
    Jul 7, 2015 7:12 PM - daniel871: That's card 4 of 5.
Jul 7, 2015 7:12 PM - donhuevo: s3d has a nice manual control panel, right
Jul 7, 2015 7:12 PM - daniel871: Going to try the other two that didn't have a blob of solder on them, then go for the last one.
    Jul 7, 2015 7:13 PM - daniel871: [IMG]
Jul 7, 2015 7:14 PM - donhuevo: what's on the jog controls panel?
    Jul 7, 2015 7:14 PM - daniel871: [IMG]
    Jul 7, 2015 7:15 PM - donhuevo: [IMG]
    Jul 7, 2015 7:16 PM - daniel871: That's the one I tried a minute ago.
Jul 7, 2015 7:16 PM - daniel871: No results doing nothing, then again slowly turning the pot while giving it about a minute to go through the command.
Jul 7, 2015 7:17 PM - daniel871: So back to the other two boards that apparently needed to have the nozzle at 195 before trying.
Jul 7, 2015 7:17 PM - donhuevo: yep. trying another stepper driver seems like the right approach
    Jul 7, 2015 7:17 PM - daniel871: Before trying the final one.
    Jul 7, 2015 7:17 PM - daniel871: This sucks.
Jul 7, 2015 7:19 PM - donhuevo: what doesn't kill you can sometimes just really piss you off
Jul 7, 2015 7:21 PM - daniel871: Okay, just for shits and giggles I put the original Robo board back in place.
Jul 7, 2015 7:22 PM - daniel871: I'm going to throw something if it works.
    Jul 7, 2015 7:23 PM - daniel871: Mother Fucker!
    Jul 7, 2015 7:23 PM - daniel871: It's spinning the gear.
    Jul 7, 2015 7:23 PM - daniel871: Jesus H Christ.
Jul 7, 2015 7:24 PM - daniel871: One of those chinese drivers from Amazon took a trip into the back yard because I don't want to throw anything more expensive than that.
Jul 7, 2015 7:24 PM - daniel871: Now to just clean up everything, reassemble stuff and print something.
    Jul 7, 2015 7:25 PM - donhuevo: well alrighty!
    Jul 7, 2015 7:29 PM - jbigler1986: I know how it goes.
Jul 7, 2015 7:31 PM - jbigler1986: Forgot to clean my teeth and print failed after first layer bc it couldnt keep up with rhe loss of grip. Woops
    Jul 7, 2015 7:48 PM - jbigler1986: Rookie mistake
Jul 7, 2015 8:02 PM - daniel871: Ugh. extruder is running backwards and I really don't want to open everything up again. Is there a quick way to reverse the extruder in the firmware?
    Jul 7, 2015 8:04 PM - daniel871: // For Inverting Stepper Enable Pins (Active Low) use 0, Non Inverting (Active High) use 1 #define X_ENABLE_ON 0 #define Y_ENABLE_ON 0 #define Z_ENABLE_ON 0 #define E_ENABLE_ON 0 // For all extruders
    Jul 7, 2015 8:05 PM - daniel871: Change #define E_Enable_On 0 to #define E_Enable_On 1?
Jul 7, 2015 8:07 PM - daniel871: What the hell, I'll try it and if it doesn't work I'll revert it and do things the other way tomorrow evening.
Jul 7, 2015 8:09 PM - jbigler1986: yep. just enable or disable invert
Jul 7, 2015 8:26 PM - daniel871: Damnit. The extruder is locked in place under power and won't turn, regardless of what temperature the nozzle is at.
Jul 7, 2015 8:27 PM - daniel871: Fuck it, I'll open it up tomorrow night, flip the connection, undo the invert on the firmware and try again.
    Jul 7, 2015 8:32 PM - jbigler1986: hmmm
    Jul 7, 2015 8:32 PM - jbigler1986: that is odd
Jul 7, 2015 8:38 PM - daniel871: A lot of the revisions in the Robo v3 firmware seem to have made things worse.
Jul 7, 2015 8:39 PM - daniel871: Why the hell would you set min extrude temp to 195?
    Jul 7, 2015 8:39 PM - jbigler1986: really?
    Jul 7, 2015 8:39 PM - jbigler1986: bc it's robo
Jul 7, 2015 8:40 PM - jbigler1986: it was already set to high
Jul 7, 2015 8:40 PM - daniel871: F everyone with an e3d extruder I guess. Double that for volcano users.
Jul 7, 2015 8:41 PM - jbigler1986: not sure what their deal has been lately
Jul 7, 2015 8:42 PM - daniel871: And yeah, seems like inverting confuses it. It ran in reverse just fine but locked when invert was turned on for the extruder.
Jul 7, 2015 8:43 PM - jbigler1986: let me check the code really quick. i had no issues
    Jul 7, 2015 8:44 PM - jbigler1986: #define INVERT_E0_DIR false
Jul 7, 2015 8:44 PM - jbigler1986: change false to true or vice versa
    Jul 7, 2015 8:45 PM - daniel871: I'll do it tomorrow.
Jul 7, 2015 8:45 PM - jbigler1986: yeah i'm about to go to bed as soon as this damn first layer finishes
Jul 7, 2015 8:46 PM - daniel871: Almost midnight and I have to get up at 4:30. Tomorrow is going to suck.
    Jul 7, 2015 8:46 PM - jbigler1986: same
    Jul 7, 2015 8:46 PM - jbigler1986: i'm use to it though

    Jul 8, 2015 4:17 AM - jbigler1986: morning
    Jul 8, 2015 4:35 AM - daniel871: morning.
    Jul 8, 2015 4:51 AM - jbigler1986: I need to print a new extruder. ugh
    Jul 8, 2015 5:19 AM - donhuevo: morning
    Jul 8, 2015 5:19 AM - jbigler1986: morning
Jul 8, 2015 5:19 AM - donhuevo: so why a new extruder? don't you have like 30 new ones?
Jul 8, 2015 5:20 AM - jbigler1986: when it retracts the filament doesn't stay straight and bunches up.
Jul 8, 2015 5:22 AM - donhuevo: so it's still getting soft at the hob?
Jul 8, 2015 5:22 AM - jbigler1986: not. it's not retracting straight basically. not staying in alighment
Jul 8, 2015 5:25 AM - donhuevo: happen to have a picture of it bunched up?
    Jul 8, 2015 5:25 AM - daniel871: Needs support on the extruder lead-in, basically?
Jul 8, 2015 5:26 AM - daniel871: Probably end up just putting some ptfe in the leadin part similar to the outgoing end.
Jul 8, 2015 5:26 AM - jbigler1986: i tried to cut a recess in the ptfe tube for the drive gear that way it would be in ptfe tube the whole time. but that failed
Jul 8, 2015 5:26 AM - donhuevo: there's no reason why you couldn't just oversize the inlet diameter
    Jul 8, 2015 5:27 AM - jbigler1986: i didn't take a picture
    Jul 8, 2015 5:28 AM - jbigler1986: http://i.imgur.com/2Zpwmbph.jpg
    Jul 8, 2015 5:29 AM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Jul 8, 2015 5:30 AM - jbigler1986: looked similar to that. except it came off of the drive gear. i was going to use a different drive gear but they are to small for this extruder. the idler doesn't press against it enough
Jul 8, 2015 5:31 AM - jbigler1986: also on my current one it doesn't have that lip that you see there. i forgot to add that
Jul 8, 2015 5:31 AM - jbigler1986: to help guide the filament. maybe i should add that and reprint it
Jul 8, 2015 5:32 AM - jbigler1986: gregs wade works perfectly until there is a lot of retraction going on then it grinds the filament
Jul 8, 2015 5:32 AM - donhuevo: yep, I remember that pic. I kept a copy. I'd still love to see the idler arm redesigned so that the pulley hits the hob the way its supposed to
Jul 8, 2015 5:32 AM - jbigler1986: it lines up good on the current one
Jul 8, 2015 5:32 AM - donhuevo: I'm also guessing that the inlet and outlet are aligned for a bigger hob
    Jul 8, 2015 5:32 AM - jbigler1986: i modified that yellow one
    Jul 8, 2015 5:34 AM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Jul 8, 2015 5:34 AM - jbigler1986: current one. with my failed ptfe recess attempt
Jul 8, 2015 5:34 AM - donhuevo: hey! my sleeve!
    Jul 8, 2015 5:34 AM - jbigler1986: yep
    Jul 8, 2015 5:35 AM - donhuevo: that looks perfect alignment-wise
Jul 8, 2015 5:35 AM - daniel871: That cutaway could be closer to the gear.
Jul 8, 2015 5:36 AM - jbigler1986: i think i need to add a filament guide on the bottom like on the yellow one
Jul 8, 2015 5:36 AM - donhuevo: the fact that you have some ptfe in between the filament and the bearing bothers me
Jul 8, 2015 5:37 AM - Stephen Capistron: I'm with Don on the idler alignment
Jul 8, 2015 5:37 AM - daniel871: The PTFE between the bearing and the filament shouldn't matter, as the PTFE shouldn't have much resistant/friction to it.
Jul 8, 2015 5:37 AM - Stephen Capistron: I printed a new extruder a short while back and could not get it to extrude well. Through the old stock idler arm on there and it worked great
Jul 8, 2015 5:38 AM - daniel871: But the angle of applied force on the bearing may make a difference.
Jul 8, 2015 5:38 AM - donhuevo: under normal conditions it wouldn't but what about after squeezing it tight?
Jul 8, 2015 5:38 AM - donhuevo: the bearing is there to move with the filament
Jul 8, 2015 5:39 AM - jbigler1986: it was just a test. others have had success with it
    Jul 8, 2015 5:40 AM - jbigler1986: i just need to use a different extruder
Jul 8, 2015 5:40 AM - donhuevo: before printing another, how about cutting away the lower ptfe just above where hob meets bearing
    Jul 8, 2015 5:42 AM - jbigler1986: that's how i normally have it
    Jul 8, 2015 5:42 AM - donhuevo: ok
Jul 8, 2015 5:43 AM - donhuevo: i'm still on my first cup of coffee. forgive me if I'm being slow
Jul 8, 2015 5:46 AM - Bill Monroe: gooood morning
    Jul 8, 2015 5:47 AM - jbigler1986: morning Bill
    Jul 8, 2015 5:47 AM - donhuevo: morning Bill
Jul 8, 2015 5:48 AM - Bill Monroe: These are the day when San Diego is the only place to be
Jul 8, 2015 5:48 AM - Bill Monroe: cool calm dawn.. great ride around the lake..
    Jul 8, 2015 5:56 AM - jbigler1986: stephen, enclosure?
Jul 8, 2015 6:19 AM - jbigler1986: don any extruder suggestions? i don't mind mind buying some smaller bearings if needed
Jul 8, 2015 6:45 AM - jbigler1986: maybe i should try the air tripper. lots of people seem to have good results with it
Jul 8, 2015 6:57 AM - donhuevo: hmmm... I would say bondtech because everyone seems to love them but that's a lot of money. I don't know anything about the air tripper
Jul 8, 2015 6:57 AM - jbigler1986: bondtech is out of stock even if i wanted to
Jul 8, 2015 6:57 AM - daniel871: Those Google Deep Dream images are the stuff of nightmares.
Jul 8, 2015 6:58 AM - jbigler1986: printed ones have to be fine. just need to find the right one
Jul 8, 2015 6:58 AM - donhuevo: they're usually designed around a particular bearing and hob
    Jul 8, 2015 6:58 AM - daniel871: [IMG]
Jul 8, 2015 6:59 AM - donhuevo: if you find one that matches what you have, you should be golden
Jul 8, 2015 6:59 AM - daniel871: Google's Image Recognition thinks everything is dogs and eyeballs.
    Jul 8, 2015 6:59 AM - jbigler1986: most seem to be mk8 or mk7. i believe i have both
Jul 8, 2015 6:59 AM - jbigler1986: i have 608 bearings but can buy smaller ones if needed
    Jul 8, 2015 7:02 AM - donhuevo: daniel... I have no words
Jul 8, 2015 7:07 AM - daniel871: Of course, someone did this with it http://imgur.com/gallery/QEIwEfz
    Jul 8, 2015 7:08 AM - daniel871: Here's a serious gallery though. http://imgur.com/gallery/Y5Q4b
    Jul 8, 2015 7:10 AM - donhuevo: trippy
Jul 8, 2015 7:12 AM - donhuevo: jb, what's the orange extruder look like without the ptfe in between the bearing and filament?
Jul 8, 2015 7:12 AM - daniel871: Tons of lithophane material to choose from, haha.
    Jul 8, 2015 7:12 AM - daniel871: http://artofericwayne.com/2015/07/08/google-deep-dream-getting-too-good/
Jul 8, 2015 7:13 AM - jbigler1986: doesn't look much different just minus the ptfe tube that is in between the bearing
Jul 8, 2015 7:14 AM - donhuevo: so the bearing center and hub center are perpendicular to the filament?
    Jul 8, 2015 7:14 AM - jbigler1986: yep
Jul 8, 2015 7:14 AM - donhuevo: and how was that setup misbehaving?
Jul 8, 2015 7:15 AM - donhuevo: and daniel, that one picture was vagina
Jul 8, 2015 7:15 AM - jbigler1986: when it would retract the filament would get out of alignment. like come off of the drive gear
    Jul 8, 2015 7:16 AM - Mike Kelly: mornin
    Jul 8, 2015 7:16 AM - donhuevo: morning mike
Jul 8, 2015 7:16 AM - donhuevo: ok but you said you could put the lip back on the bottom?
Jul 8, 2015 7:17 AM - jbigler1986: see the one on the yellow one that was like a filament guide
Jul 8, 2015 7:17 AM - jbigler1986: i modified the yellow one and added that to it. that would probably help. not sure
    Jul 8, 2015 7:18 AM - donhuevo: I'd agree with that
Jul 8, 2015 7:20 AM - jbigler1986: might as well add one to the top too so they both run as close to the drive gear as possible instead of just the ptfe tube
Jul 8, 2015 7:22 AM - donhuevo: I think I've shown you this before... [IMG]
    Jul 8, 2015 7:22 AM - jbigler1986: yeah that's what i need to do
Jul 8, 2015 7:23 AM - jbigler1986: gonna have to put on gregs wade bowden to print it
Jul 8, 2015 7:23 AM - donhuevo: I have a good feeling about it. Once your setup to print it, may as well do two
Jul 8, 2015 7:24 AM - jbigler1986: why do so many people have bowden extruders with non geared stepper? esteps like that are like 200
    Jul 8, 2015 7:26 AM - donhuevo: no clue.
Jul 8, 2015 7:26 AM - Mike Kelly: speed mostly
Jul 8, 2015 7:27 AM - Mike Kelly: according to someone on the google+ group you really want a gear ratio of like 1:1.5
Jul 8, 2015 7:30 AM - donhuevo: are they generally a smarter bunch of people?
Jul 8, 2015 7:30 AM - Mike Kelly: more experienced maybe
Jul 8, 2015 7:30 AM - Mike Kelly: it was Whosa Whatsit who i generally trust
    Jul 8, 2015 7:31 AM - jbigler1986: so non geared are fine?
    Jul 8, 2015 7:31 AM - jbigler1986: they stall rather easily
    Jul 8, 2015 7:31 AM - Mike Kelly: i didn't say that
Jul 8, 2015 7:32 AM - Mike Kelly: you'd probably want a high torque nema 17 combined with a light gear ratio
    Jul 8, 2015 7:32 AM - daniel871: Hm.
Jul 8, 2015 7:33 AM - jbigler1986: question as to why you guys hate the ezstruder? just wondering. not buying on

Jul 8, 2015 7:33 AM - donhuevo: like the spindle stepper on that pocket cnc
Jul 8, 2015 7:33 AM - daniel871: I got one of these before they went out of stock. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PNER4V6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00
Jul 8, 2015 7:33 AM - Mike Kelly: i didn't hate it really just kinda lacking
    Jul 8, 2015 7:33 AM - daniel871: How would that one do?
    Jul 8, 2015 7:33 AM - Mike Kelly: that's what we're all running
Jul 8, 2015 7:34 AM - Mike Kelly: i think the issue i had with the EZStruder was becuase of my method to secure it
    Jul 8, 2015 7:34 AM - donhuevo: I have a torquier version
Jul 8, 2015 7:34 AM - Mike Kelly: since it connects to nema 17 i had to make an adapter mount and the securing screws were tapping into plastic
Jul 8, 2015 7:34 AM - Mike Kelly: after a few removals it got weak and i couldn't secure it properly
Jul 8, 2015 7:34 AM - daniel871: 283oz-in max torque seems pretty good compared to the 64oz-in on the regular stepper I halfway have working on the Wade now.
    Jul 8, 2015 7:34 AM - donhuevo: ^
Jul 8, 2015 7:35 AM - Mike Kelly: so that caused the lever arm to get misaligned
Jul 8, 2015 7:35 AM - jbigler1986: gotcha. crossing my fingers that adding those (guides) to the top and bottom will solve my issue
    Jul 8, 2015 7:35 AM - donhuevo: I have these... http://www.omc-stepperonline.com/ge...rque-nema-17-stepper-17hs191684spg5-p-40.html
Jul 8, 2015 7:36 AM - daniel871: 3DHubs sent me a reminder email today about those Aluminum cast Y-axis belt clips. Looks like Thor is either stumped or a bad hub.
Jul 8, 2015 7:37 AM - daniel871: Yours looks like it has a higher holding torque, don.
Jul 8, 2015 7:37 AM - daniel871: But the rest of the stats look the same. Odd.
Jul 8, 2015 7:39 AM - donhuevo: that is odd
Jul 8, 2015 7:39 AM - donhuevo: did you get your plug reversed?
Jul 8, 2015 7:40 AM - daniel871: Pretty sure I did. But it was almost midnight by that point so I said screw it until I get home from work today.
Jul 8, 2015 7:40 AM - Mike Kelly: i wish i had bought those geared steppers
Jul 8, 2015 7:41 AM - daniel871: Tried to invert via firmware last night before quitting and it went from running in reverse to simply staying locked in place and not turning (but under power because it was impossible to spin the gear).
Jul 8, 2015 7:41 AM - daniel871: So I'm going to put the firmware back in non-inverted values on the extruder and fix the actual plug-in bit.
Jul 8, 2015 7:42 AM - donhuevo: yep, the simplest solution is just to turn the connector around which actually makes no sense because its kind of like a double-negative
Jul 8, 2015 7:42 AM - donhuevo: and yet the motor spins the other way
Jul 8, 2015 7:43 AM - daniel871: Yeah, I was all excited when it spun last night. Closed everything up and got it ready to print.
Jul 8, 2015 7:43 AM - daniel871: Bed level ran, everything heated up, then when the actual print started it rapidly spit the filament out the top of the extruder.
Jul 8, 2015 7:44 AM - donhuevo: look at the pile of new crap you learned though
    Jul 8, 2015 7:44 AM - daniel871: At least I know the motor works.
Jul 8, 2015 7:44 AM - daniel871: I'm a little aggravated at those "new" driver boards not being any good though.
Jul 8, 2015 7:44 AM - daniel871: Original robo driver is back in place.
Jul 8, 2015 7:45 AM - daniel871: So the whole thing about why it didn't work before vs working now being chalked up to the minimum extrusion temp being too high is an aggravating thing.
    Jul 8, 2015 7:45 AM - daniel871: Never should have put the v3 firmware on, I guess.
Jul 8, 2015 7:47 AM - Mike Kelly: they're all the same unless you installed waldos
Jul 8, 2015 7:48 AM - daniel871: It was there for about five minutes before putting the original Robo firmware back on.
Jul 8, 2015 7:49 AM - daniel871: Mainly because of the LCD controller reversing on the knob and the menus changing.
Jul 8, 2015 7:49 AM - daniel871: Is there a command that will verify what is currently on the machine matches the open sketch?
Jul 8, 2015 7:49 AM - Mike Kelly: the machine name
Jul 8, 2015 7:50 AM - daniel871: It says RoboR1V3 on the LCD when I fire it up.
    Jul 8, 2015 7:50 AM - daniel871: Waldo's version had RoboR1 and a different number string.
    Jul 8, 2015 7:50 AM - daniel871: 11494 or something like that.
    Jul 8, 2015 7:51 AM - Mike Glass: hayooo
    Jul 8, 2015 7:51 AM - daniel871: Is it Friday yet?
    Jul 8, 2015 7:51 AM - Mike Kelly: yo
    Jul 8, 2015 7:51 AM - Mike Kelly: ugh don't remind me
    Jul 8, 2015 7:52 AM - daniel871: Oh hey, it's this day.
Jul 8, 2015 7:52 AM - Mike Glass: Hey I like Galaxius printer thats gonna be the tits
    Jul 8, 2015 7:52 AM - daniel871:
Jul 8, 2015 7:54 AM - daniel871: I like the idea of Galaxius's frame better than the BEAST from yesterday as well. Be easier to make and mount stuff to.
Jul 8, 2015 7:55 AM - Mike Kelly: boxy printers... boxy printers everywhere
Jul 8, 2015 7:56 AM - donhuevo: well, at least until the Tiko hits the streets
Jul 8, 2015 7:57 AM - Mike Kelly: then dumpsters full of printers... dumpsters full of printers everywhere
    Jul 8, 2015 7:57 AM - donhuevo: haha!
Jul 8, 2015 7:58 AM - daniel871: Only if the Tiko is going to be made in a 12" diameter x 12"+ print size.
Jul 8, 2015 7:58 AM - Mike Kelly: at those speeds you really don't want more than like 4"
    Jul 8, 2015 7:58 AM - jbigler1986: tiko. hell yeah. can't wait
    Jul 8, 2015 7:58 AM - Mike Kelly: 20mm/s...
Jul 8, 2015 7:59 AM - daniel871: For a higher price or whatever, but the 4.9" size is smaller than pretty much everything I've done when not doing calibration cubes or whatever.
    Jul 8, 2015 7:59 AM - jbigler1986: .1 height at 20mm/s. 3 weeks later you will have a yoda MK
    Jul 8, 2015 7:59 AM - Mike Kelly: lol
Jul 8, 2015 8:00 AM - daniel871: The Tiko would be fun to have sitting on your desk at work printing vases.
    Jul 8, 2015 8:00 AM - daniel871: Be like a really expensive lava lamp.
Jul 8, 2015 8:00 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah it would be a nice desk toy
    Jul 8, 2015 8:00 AM - Mike Kelly: like a newton's cradle
Jul 8, 2015 8:00 AM - Mike Kelly: or one of those magnetically powered spinning deals
    Jul 8, 2015 8:00 AM - daniel871: Have it print a "Fuck/You" platform like the "Yes/No" platform.
Jul 8, 2015 8:01 AM - Mike Kelly: has anyone made that?
Jul 8, 2015 8:01 AM - daniel871: I haven't seen it, but I figure if anyone has someone here can help search for it.
Jul 8, 2015 8:02 AM - daniel871: Google is no help so far.
Jul 8, 2015 8:03 AM - Mike Kelly: google is the worst at finding 3d models
    Jul 8, 2015 8:05 AM - jbigler1986: yeggi
    Jul 8, 2015 8:06 AM - jbigler1986: http://www.instructables.com/id/3D-Printed-Magnetic-MotorGenerator/
Jul 8, 2015 8:08 AM - jbigler1986: probably not what you are looking for
    Jul 8, 2015 8:08 AM - daniel871: Nope.
Jul 8, 2015 8:09 AM - daniel871: Looking for a word illusion like the Yes-No thing that says "Fuck" and "You". :p
Jul 8, 2015 8:09 AM - Mike Kelly: i'm also not a fan of yeggi
Jul 8, 2015 8:09 AM - Mike Kelly: so much unprintable crap on there
Jul 8, 2015 8:12 AM - daniel871: Youmagine is getting blocked by Chrome. Something about an attack script.
    Jul 8, 2015 8:12 AM - daniel871: Hm.
    Jul 8, 2015 8:12 AM - daniel871: Nothing on Thingiverse
    Jul 8, 2015 8:12 AM - jbigler1986: MK when r u ordering your stuff
Jul 8, 2015 8:13 AM - Mike Kelly: i need to figure out what all i need vs want
    Jul 8, 2015 8:14 AM - jbigler1986: http://robotdigg.com/product/529/Ultimaker+Filament+Drive+Gear that's what UM2 uses?
Jul 8, 2015 8:16 AM - Mike Kelly: lemme ask
    Jul 8, 2015 8:17 AM - Mike Kelly: ok he wasn't sure
Jul 8, 2015 8:18 AM - Mike Kelly: just did a GIS, looks right

    Jul 8, 2015 8:19 AM - jbigler1986: hmmm
Jul 8, 2015 8:19 AM - jbigler1986: looks like the bulldog uses a welding drive roller
    Jul 8, 2015 8:21 AM - Mike Kelly: looks like a mk8 to me?
    Jul 8, 2015 8:22 AM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
    Jul 8, 2015 8:23 AM - jbigler1986: wait that the idler. nevermind
Jul 8, 2015 8:23 AM - jbigler1986: but does look like a welding drive roller though
    Jul 8, 2015 8:23 AM - Mike Kelly: 100m of 2020 for 400
Jul 8, 2015 8:23 AM - Mike Kelly: who wants some?
    Jul 8, 2015 8:24 AM - Mike Glass: mememememe
Jul 8, 2015 8:25 AM - jbigler1986: man their stuff is so cheap
Jul 8, 2015 8:26 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah i've got like 100 things on my list right now

Jul 8, 2015 8:26 AM - Mike Kelly: hey mike do you have a BOM for the eustathios or herculien
Jul 8, 2015 8:34 AM - jbigler1986: WTF. the guy about the fishing rod
    Jul 8, 2015 8:34 AM - Mike Kelly: ?
    Jul 8, 2015 8:35 AM - daniel871: The Adafruit article thing?
    Jul 8, 2015 8:36 AM - jbigler1986: yeah
Jul 8, 2015 8:36 AM - jbigler1986: was he saying he created it?
    Jul 8, 2015 8:37 AM - jbigler1986: that's pretty cool if he did
Jul 8, 2015 8:37 AM - Mike Glass: Yea, think I have on for the v2 also
    Jul 8, 2015 8:37 AM - Mike Kelly: i'd appreciate it
Jul 8, 2015 8:37 AM - Mike Kelly: his list is shit
Jul 8, 2015 8:37 AM - Mike Kelly: using MMC numbers...
Jul 8, 2015 8:40 AM - Mike Glass: OH I have just his list, I didnt update it with info I was gathering. 597 parts doh
Jul 8, 2015 8:42 AM - Mike Glass: I think I got one from another memeber that built one also, need to find that one as well
Jul 8, 2015 8:44 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah i really don't want to go through his MMC parts one by one
    Jul 8, 2015 8:44 AM - Mike Kelly:

    Jul 8, 2015 8:50 AM - jbigler1986: 40 second mark in that video. Creepy
Jul 8, 2015 8:52 AM - daniel871: Someone posted the MPCNC build they did on a CNC group on FB, saying it came out a little out of square and wondering how to fix it.
Jul 8, 2015 8:52 AM - daniel871: Or it cuts out of square.
Jul 8, 2015 8:52 AM - daniel871: So many ways that could happen.
Jul 8, 2015 8:53 AM - daniel871: You'd think that if the frame was badly out of square the machine would bind up, though. Hm...
Jul 8, 2015 8:55 AM - jbigler1986: after modify the extruder tonight and it fails. i'm gonna flip out
Jul 8, 2015 8:56 AM - Mike Kelly: you should just use the hercustruder
Jul 8, 2015 8:58 AM - jbigler1986: what is holding the ptfe? just a nut?
Jul 8, 2015 9:03 AM - Mike Kelly: Yeah but it's easy to modify to other styles
Jul 8, 2015 9:04 AM - donhuevo: you're more than welcome to my cold end drawings but it's got some oddball hardware
    Jul 8, 2015 9:04 AM - donhuevo: like the 3mm heatset nuts
    Jul 8, 2015 9:04 AM - donhuevo: a 606zz bearing
Jul 8, 2015 9:06 AM - jbigler1986: MK wanna modify that for the bowden adapter? i will try it out
    Jul 8, 2015 9:06 AM - donhuevo: and one of these... http://www.filastruder.com/products/embeddedbowdencoupling
Jul 8, 2015 9:06 AM - Mike Kelly: which bowden adapter do you use
Jul 8, 2015 9:06 AM - Mike Kelly: oh you meant the one i'm mailing you?
    Jul 8, 2015 9:07 AM - jbigler1986: fuck
Jul 8, 2015 9:07 AM - Mike Kelly: lemme help you out there
    Jul 8, 2015 9:08 AM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Jul 8, 2015 9:09 AM - Mike Kelly: how does your existing extruder hold the ptfe tube
    Jul 8, 2015 9:11 AM - jbigler1986: that adapter
Jul 8, 2015 9:11 AM - Mike Kelly: ok then
Jul 8, 2015 9:12 AM - Mike Kelly: i can probably come up with something, lemme look into it a bit later
    Jul 8, 2015 9:12 AM - donhuevo: sorry, I used this... http://e3d-online.com/Embedded-Bowden-Couplings-For-Plastic-1.75mm-Filament
    Jul 8, 2015 9:12 AM - jbigler1986: no problem MK
Jul 8, 2015 9:12 AM - Mike Kelly: i use the first one you linked on my bondtechs
    Jul 8, 2015 9:13 AM - jbigler1986: i have an extra 1 or 2 of those
    Jul 8, 2015 9:13 AM - jbigler1986: i think just 1 now
Jul 8, 2015 9:13 AM - donhuevo: I want to say that you pointed me at the ones I just linked Mike
    Jul 8, 2015 9:14 AM - Mike Kelly: i believe so
Jul 8, 2015 9:15 AM - Mike Kelly: i forget can the eustathios spider v2 be enclosed?
    Jul 8, 2015 9:16 AM - jbigler1986: it looks like it
Jul 8, 2015 9:32 AM - daniel871: Looks like it'd be pretty simple to do everywhere but the top where the filament comes in.
Jul 8, 2015 9:32 AM - daniel871: Maybe build a secondary structure on top that would house the spool and then enclose everything?
Jul 8, 2015 9:33 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah like the herculien
    Jul 8, 2015 9:35 AM - jbigler1986: http://community.robo3d.com/index.p...t-replicator-mini-price-1275.6181/#post-51520
Jul 8, 2015 9:35 AM - jbigler1986: he has a ton of printers for sale
Jul 8, 2015 9:35 AM - Mike Kelly: spammy spammy
Jul 8, 2015 9:36 AM - jbigler1986: never. has to be true. the mods here would never allow spam ;)
Jul 8, 2015 9:36 AM - daniel871: Well that was fast. Got an error clicking the link.
Jul 8, 2015 9:37 AM - daniel871: Also yeah, like the Herculien, except with the spools actually inside that top cavity.
    Jul 8, 2015 9:37 AM - daniel871: So a taller top cavity.
    Jul 8, 2015 9:37 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah but it's bowden
Jul 8, 2015 9:41 AM - daniel871: Not seeing the problem since the bed raises/lowers for Z and the bowden tube length shouldn't go vertical too much if the spacing and tube length is right for the travel limits.
Jul 8, 2015 9:42 AM - daniel871: You just have a spanning bracket of some sort that is near the spools that the extruder is mounted to and tube feeding down from there.
Jul 8, 2015 9:43 AM - daniel871: You'd end up with bowden tubes that move around like the arms on a delta printer, but inverted and not moving in the Z direction.
Jul 8, 2015 9:43 AM - jbigler1986: yeah if carriage moved up like the robo mounting on top is a no go.
Jul 8, 2015 9:45 AM - daniel871: The problem would be in the mounting of the bowden end so that it stayed stationary when opening the top to change spools.
Jul 8, 2015 9:45 AM - jbigler1986: but since the bed is the z it should be fine
Jul 8, 2015 9:46 AM - daniel871: (top would basically be a flat lid instead of the rectangular thing on the Herculien you see here: [IMG]
Jul 8, 2015 9:47 AM - daniel871: Imagine the bowden extruders and spools inside that, but with the top bit being taller to accommodate them, and a flat hinged lid instead of the box lid there.
Jul 8, 2015 9:47 AM - Mike Kelly: too much void space means more area to heat
Jul 8, 2015 9:50 AM - jbigler1986: MK did you see how i had to mount my stepper fan?
    Jul 8, 2015 9:50 AM - Mike Kelly: nope
Jul 8, 2015 9:51 AM - daniel871: Did you re-use the original stepper screws to do that or put some longer ones in there?
Jul 8, 2015 9:52 AM - daniel871: If I'm thinking of the same one where I saw a fan bolted directly to the butt end of the stepper.
    Jul 8, 2015 9:52 AM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
    Jul 8, 2015 9:53 AM - Mike Kelly: uhhh
Jul 8, 2015 9:54 AM - Mike Kelly: couple things....
Jul 8, 2015 9:54 AM - Mike Kelly: well one thing really
    Jul 8, 2015 9:54 AM - Mike Kelly: that's almost completely blocked
    Jul 8, 2015 9:56 AM - jbigler1986: yeah i know
Jul 8, 2015 9:57 AM - jbigler1986: actually works pretty good like that. but i'm trying to print new mounts so i can move the extruder farther away. That way i can print a fan mount for the stepper
Jul 8, 2015 9:58 AM - jbigler1986: i can actually grab the stepper and hold onto it without my hand getting hot a hell
    Jul 8, 2015 9:59 AM - jbigler1986: definitely not ideal that's for sure.
Jul 8, 2015 9:59 AM - Mike Kelly: that's good then and all that really matters
Jul 8, 2015 9:59 AM - Mike Kelly: what direction is the air flow from the stepper
Jul 8, 2015 10:00 AM - jbigler1986: pushing. i would pull it but the hot air would just bounce back at the stepper
Jul 8, 2015 10:00 AM - Mike Kelly: hmm not sure how air could escape
Jul 8, 2015 10:01 AM - Mike Kelly: since it's basically sealed against the stepper
Jul 8, 2015 10:01 AM - Mike Kelly: can you print some spacers?
    Jul 8, 2015 10:02 AM - jbigler1986: gonna print this for it http://thingiverse-production-new.s.../34/41/64/be/69/IMG_0021_preview_featured.jpg
    Jul 8, 2015 10:02 AM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
    Jul 8, 2015 10:03 AM - jbigler1986: wrong one. here [IMG]
Jul 8, 2015 10:05 AM - jbigler1986: that's why i'm printing new mounts. currently i can't move the extruder any farther away. gonna be able to move it 50mm once i get the mounts printed
Jul 8, 2015 10:07 AM - jbigler1986: or i should just make the mounts so i can turn the extruder sideways.
    Jul 8, 2015 10:10 AM - WheresWaldo: Hello everyone
    Jul 8, 2015 10:15 AM - jbigler1986: hello
Jul 8, 2015 10:15 AM - Mike Kelly: http://www.foodbeast.com/news/beer-pong-fixed/ you could totally print these
Jul 8, 2015 10:17 AM - WheresWaldo: Did daniel871 see my response to the encoder running backwards (known issue).
    Jul 8, 2015 10:19 AM - jbigler1986: good idea
Jul 8, 2015 10:20 AM - jbigler1986: although the nasty water cup is part of the fun. and once you are drunk you dont really give a crap
Jul 8, 2015 10:26 AM - Mike Kelly: still kinda gross though
    Jul 8, 2015 10:28 AM - jbigler1986: oh yes it is
Jul 8, 2015 10:28 AM - jbigler1986: i played with warm steel reserve once. horrible idea

Jul 8, 2015 10:30 AM - Mike Kelly: costco brand light beer is hilarious
Jul 8, 2015 10:31 AM - Mike Kelly: it comes in grey cans with a "Lite Beer" onit

Jul 8, 2015 10:34 AM - Mike Kelly: they have some insanely expensive ones at ours
    Jul 8, 2015 10:34 AM - Mike Kelly: like $2k
Jul 8, 2015 10:35 AM - Stephen Capistron: The kirkland signature one at mine is like $600
    Jul 8, 2015 10:35 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah it's a Glenlivet
    Jul 8, 2015 10:37 AM - jbigler1986: yeah i saw a barrel of jim beam at mine
    Jul 8, 2015 10:43 AM - donhuevo: Laird's Applejack anyone?
Jul 8, 2015 10:44 AM - Mike Glass: kickstarter for a cup, are people stoopid
    Jul 8, 2015 10:44 AM - Mike Kelly: very
Jul 8, 2015 10:44 AM - Mike Kelly: kickstarter: free money for people with bad ideas
Jul 8, 2015 10:45 AM - Mike Kelly: they're gonna get it though
Jul 8, 2015 10:46 AM - Mike Glass: you dont think solo will beat them?
Jul 8, 2015 10:46 AM - Mike Kelly: i don't think solo really wants to embrace that
Jul 8, 2015 10:47 AM - Mike Kelly: even though 99% of their cups hold alcohol i don't think they'll admit to that
Jul 8, 2015 10:47 AM - Mike Glass: shouldnt you also patent before you kickstart, so somebody else doesnt steal it.
Jul 8, 2015 10:48 AM - Mike Kelly: i thought they said they submitted one
    Jul 8, 2015 10:48 AM - Mike Kelly: i don't think that's patentable anyways
    Jul 8, 2015 10:48 AM - Mike Kelly: maybe a design patent
Jul 8, 2015 10:48 AM - Mike Glass: not that in particlular, but...
Jul 8, 2015 10:49 AM - Mike Kelly: once the design is out in public no one can get a patent
Jul 8, 2015 10:50 AM - Mike Kelly: you might like this mike
Jul 8, 2015 10:51 AM - Stephen Capistron: So what you are saying is someone should write software that generates random amalgamations of shapes and post a picture of them to the internet?
Jul 8, 2015 10:51 AM - Mike Glass: So if somebody put a item on kickstart without a patent, somebody could copy the idea and get no patent.
Jul 8, 2015 10:54 AM - Mike Glass: ha nice way to center, wonder that the marker thing he was using, its strange.
    Jul 8, 2015 10:54 AM - Mike Kelly: agreed
Jul 8, 2015 10:55 AM - Mike Kelly: in principle yes stephen
Jul 8, 2015 10:55 AM - Mike Kelly: but yeah mike that's true for any product not patented
Jul 8, 2015 10:55 AM - Mike Glass: which is slim
Jul 8, 2015 10:56 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah that marker looked cool
Jul 8, 2015 10:56 AM - Mike Glass: not sure I would use ink on wood
Jul 8, 2015 10:56 AM - Mike Glass: or if it was some kknd of carbon pen

    Jul 8, 2015 11:10 AM - jbigler1986: on the kickstarter topic
    Jul 8, 2015 11:10 AM - jbigler1986: don't hate on it
Jul 8, 2015 11:10 AM - jbigler1986: how do you think i got the generator website going
Jul 8, 2015 11:10 AM - Mike Kelly: i'm not but there are some truly terrible ideas out there
Jul 8, 2015 11:11 AM - Mike Kelly: kickstarter is the reason we're here today
    Jul 8, 2015 11:11 AM - jbigler1986: very true

    Jul 8, 2015 11:16 AM - daniel871: I'm dying over here laughing at it.
Jul 8, 2015 11:16 AM - Mike Kelly: that was the worst
Jul 8, 2015 11:16 AM - daniel871: I feel bad for that poor kid if he is ever shown that video later.
Jul 8, 2015 11:16 AM - Mike Kelly: also i'm not sure why advertising no wood would be considered a benefit
    Jul 8, 2015 11:17 AM - daniel871: That stop-motion bit is hilarious, too.
    Jul 8, 2015 11:18 AM - daniel871: I want a tape measure that can shatter a wooden pencil.

    Jul 8, 2015 11:23 AM - Mike Kelly: I'M FUCKING NOT
    Jul 8, 2015 11:23 AM - daniel871: Are you sure?
Jul 8, 2015 11:23 AM - daniel871: I've had errors like that because a completely different assembly was open at the same time that also used the same component.
Jul 8, 2015 11:24 AM - Mike Kelly: it's also being painfully slow
Jul 8, 2015 11:24 AM - Mike Kelly: maybe i need to clear my vault cache and repull

Jul 8, 2015 11:31 AM - Mike Glass: Mike sent his resume to Tiko, I think he will be ok..lol
Jul 8, 2015 11:31 AM - Printed Solid: catia still exists?

Jul 8, 2015 11:35 AM - Stephen Capistron: Is Catia direct modelling or parametric?
Jul 8, 2015 11:36 AM - Printed Solid: I haven't talked to any suppliers or interviewers using Catia since about 2002.
Jul 8, 2015 11:36 AM - jbigler1986: sorry. over the line. delete that please

Jul 8, 2015 11:36 AM - Printed Solid: it must just be a few big companies with lots of expensive seats.
Jul 8, 2015 11:37 AM - Printed Solid: I remember seeing an IBM site using it in like 95 before they were bought by lockheed and switched over to something different.
Jul 8, 2015 11:39 AM - daniel871: I think some of the major plane manufacturers use it.
    Jul 8, 2015 11:39 AM - daniel871: Also probably some government contracts.
Jul 8, 2015 11:39 AM - Mike Glass: I believe Boeing uses it
    Jul 8, 2015 11:39 AM - daniel871: *joke about F-35 engine problems*
Jul 8, 2015 11:40 AM - Printed Solid: that would make sense.

    Jul 8, 2015 12:19 PM - jbigler1986: probably one software i should pay for

Jul 8, 2015 12:20 PM - Mike Kelly: i feel like virus software companies should release their software on warez sites and put spyware in it
    Jul 8, 2015 12:20 PM - Mike Glass: lol
Jul 8, 2015 12:21 PM - donhuevo: that's actually been done by fake av companies. 'You're Infected! Pay us $99 to fix it for you'

Jul 8, 2015 12:23 PM - Mike Glass: good thing the user just had access to a few drives
Jul 8, 2015 12:23 PM - donhuevo: what was the vector?
Jul 8, 2015 12:25 PM - Mike Glass: was from stupid sharing site she had with her husband. and she is only on in that office that is allowed in our system to do that.
Jul 8, 2015 12:26 PM - Mike Glass: nuance systems is the software, so basically it uses some unc path and thats why av didnt pick it up.
Jul 8, 2015 12:32 PM - donhuevo: I was just reading up on it. Not cool at all
Jul 8, 2015 12:42 PM - Mike Glass: it happened the day I was off...lol and she left her pc logged into all weekend..ugg

    Jul 8, 2015 12:55 PM - jbigler1986: lol
Jul 8, 2015 12:57 PM - daniel871: Does anyone take Symantec seriously any more?
Jul 8, 2015 12:57 PM - daniel871: They're right up there with McAfee for useless antivirus software to me.
    Jul 8, 2015 12:58 PM - jbigler1986: mcafee is crap
    Jul 8, 2015 12:58 PM - donhuevo: agreed
Jul 8, 2015 12:58 PM - donhuevo: on both counts
Jul 8, 2015 12:58 PM - Stephen Capistron: McAfee got arrested a while back right?
Jul 8, 2015 12:58 PM - Stephen Capistron: In belize

Jul 8, 2015 1:05 PM - daniel871: Put a little windup motor in it so it scoots along the floor and bounces off walls.
Jul 8, 2015 1:07 PM - Mike Kelly: how many feet of timing belt should i buy...
Jul 8, 2015 1:08 PM - Stephen Capistron: feet of pulley?
Jul 8, 2015 1:08 PM - Mike Kelly: i was looking at the word pulley when i typed that
    Jul 8, 2015 1:08 PM - daniel871: How many can you afford?
    Jul 8, 2015 1:08 PM - Stephen Capistron: 50 or 100
    Jul 8, 2015 1:09 PM - Mike Glass: 13 feet is what I bought
Jul 8, 2015 1:09 PM - Mike Kelly: didn't you get some with the other timing belt and pulley order
    Jul 8, 2015 1:09 PM - Mike Kelly: it's 1.80/ft
    Jul 8, 2015 1:10 PM - Mike Glass: yep, that too, I have 13 extra feet..lol
Jul 8, 2015 1:10 PM - Mike Glass: is that gold plated?
    Jul 8, 2015 1:10 PM - Stephen Capistron: so 20 feet
    Jul 8, 2015 1:11 PM - Mike Kelly: sorry 1.80/m
Jul 8, 2015 1:11 PM - donhuevo: just print her a hamster. a lot less upkeep

    Jul 8, 2015 1:22 PM - daniel871: Print her one of those.
Jul 8, 2015 1:23 PM - donhuevo: it would be great if we could get it to poop PLA pellets
Jul 8, 2015 1:24 PM - Stephen Capistron: For shame. It must poop hot ABS. That is the worst smelling option
Jul 8, 2015 1:24 PM - donhuevo: definitely the better option
    Jul 8, 2015 1:24 PM - donhuevo: ABS=poop
    Jul 8, 2015 1:28 PM - daniel871: Hamstruder
Jul 8, 2015 1:28 PM - donhuevo: we have a kickstarter on our hands
    Jul 8, 2015 1:30 PM - Mike Glass: don, XT=poop. ABS=cool
Jul 8, 2015 1:31 PM - AxisLab: XT kicks Abs ass
Jul 8, 2015 1:32 PM - Mike Glass: and warps worse while doing it.
Jul 8, 2015 1:38 PM - daniel871: Guess I'll save that XT spool for my mythical Herculien insulated build.

Jul 8, 2015 2:02 PM - daniel871: The Japanese response video is pretty great. "Sure, we'll fight, but we demand melee combat with the 5 ton robots"
Jul 8, 2015 2:03 PM - daniel871: Someone is going to get seriously injured/killed and it'll be awesome.
Jul 8, 2015 2:03 PM - Mike Kelly: i'd love to see that become a sport
Jul 8, 2015 2:05 PM - Mike Kelly: looks like the eustathios uses 4m of gt2
    Jul 8, 2015 2:05 PM - Mike Kelly: gah
Jul 8, 2015 2:07 PM - Mike Glass: axis, what would your recommendation be for xt then, temps and speeds, never had a good print from it, seems to be underextrusion , though everyone says run your flow lower with xt.
Jul 8, 2015 2:12 PM - AxisLab: For me the hardest part was getting up the right temperature, but that was before buying a better hotend. http://learn.colorfabb.com/print-_xt/
Jul 8, 2015 2:17 PM - AxisLab: Also like it says, keep the fan off for the first couple centimeters.
Jul 8, 2015 2:20 PM - Mike Glass: so what your saying is dont by a robo.
Jul 8, 2015 2:21 PM - AxisLab: I didn't say that at all. My first robo had the Jhead. Hence the need for the hotend swap.
Jul 8, 2015 2:23 PM - AxisLab: Also didn't have a heated bed. But I didn't get much warping at all just by using the tape.
Jul 8, 2015 2:25 PM - Printed Solid: MG, you're an engineer, right?

    Jul 8, 2015 2:48 PM - Printed Solid: I didn't know there was a /r/3dprinter
    Jul 8, 2015 2:49 PM - Printed Solid: what's up with that?
Jul 8, 2015 2:49 PM - Mike Kelly: me neither
    Jul 8, 2015 2:49 PM - Mike Kelly:
Jul 8, 2015 2:50 PM - Mike Glass: isnt that the same guy selling that?
Jul 8, 2015 2:51 PM - Printed Solid: I've seen that one. He's definitely very 'inspired' by mr berg.
Jul 8, 2015 2:51 PM - Mike Glass: hah watch out Jerry.
Jul 8, 2015 2:51 PM - Printed Solid: 2 of the 4 upgrades I don't really agree with, particularly the over the top spool holder. Too many broken beds from people that can't put their filament away properly.
Jul 8, 2015 2:52 PM - Printed Solid: I'm also not a fan of the whole raspi / octoprint thing, but I'm sure for all of you IT types it is probably an awesome solution.
    Jul 8, 2015 2:52 PM - Mike Kelly: yup
    Jul 8, 2015 2:52 PM - Mike Kelly: i hadn't seen it before
Jul 8, 2015 2:53 PM - Printed Solid: man, there really are quite a few Robo3D youtube vids.
Jul 8, 2015 2:53 PM - Printed Solid: BTW, MK, I used the rep2X to make that replacement part. In honor of you :p
Jul 8, 2015 2:54 PM - Printed Solid: I almost even used ABS, but then I saw that spool of nylon...
    Jul 8, 2015 2:55 PM - Mike Kelly: haha
Jul 8, 2015 2:55 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah if i had 910 i'd use that as well
Jul 8, 2015 3:12 PM - donhuevo: how thick do you suppose silicone would have to be around a heater block to keep PLA from melting?
Jul 8, 2015 3:13 PM - Printed Solid: how thick of a layer? probably not much
    Jul 8, 2015 3:14 PM - Mike Kelly: like 1-2mm probably
Jul 8, 2015 3:14 PM - Printed Solid: your heat transfer is going to drop pretty rapidly with a coating like that.
    Jul 8, 2015 3:14 PM - donhuevo: maybe 4mm?
    Jul 8, 2015 3:14 PM - donhuevo: 5?
Jul 8, 2015 3:14 PM - Printed Solid: are you talking transient contact or mounting something to it?
Jul 8, 2015 3:14 PM - Mike Kelly: that would probably be safe to touch imo
    Jul 8, 2015 3:14 PM - donhuevo: cool
    Jul 8, 2015 3:15 PM - donhuevo: I'm having an idea
Jul 8, 2015 3:15 PM - donhuevo: I want my ducted part cooling air as close as possible to the heater block but blowing away from it
Jul 8, 2015 3:18 PM - Mike Glass: ohoh watch out
Jul 8, 2015 3:19 PM - donhuevo: watch out for what?
Jul 8, 2015 3:19 PM - Mike Glass: your thinking again
Jul 8, 2015 3:19 PM - Mike Kelly: i suggest using radial blowers
    Jul 8, 2015 3:19 PM - donhuevo: squirrel cages?
Jul 8, 2015 3:20 PM - Mike Glass: They are the "in" thing now
Jul 8, 2015 3:20 PM - Mike Kelly: they do better with ducting
Jul 8, 2015 3:21 PM - donhuevo: I think they do a better job blowing air thru a duct.
    Jul 8, 2015 3:21 PM - donhuevo: ^
Jul 8, 2015 3:21 PM - Mike Kelly: i wonder how robotdigg's pla stacks up
    Jul 8, 2015 3:21 PM - donhuevo: damn you
    Jul 8, 2015 3:21 PM - Mike Glass: http://www.amazon.com/12V-Blower-Co...=8-2-fkmr0&keywords=radial+blower+3d+/printer
Jul 8, 2015 3:21 PM - donhuevo: yep, it looks like I can duct 3 sides of the block
Jul 8, 2015 3:21 PM - Printed Solid: they are way better. the computer fans sucks with ducting. I don't know why we use them so much.
Jul 8, 2015 3:22 PM - Mike Kelly: size mostly
Jul 8, 2015 3:22 PM - Mike Kelly: radial blowers are hard to fit at times
    Jul 8, 2015 3:22 PM - Mike Kelly: they're kinda awkwardly shaped
    Jul 8, 2015 3:23 PM - donhuevo: http://www.amazon.com/Vktech-Brushless-Cooling-0-1-0-3A-50x15mm/dp/B00EL938E6
Jul 8, 2015 3:23 PM - Printed Solid: that's true. But if makerbot could do it...
Jul 8, 2015 3:23 PM - donhuevo: I'm doing a new carriage from scratch so I'm building around that fan
Jul 8, 2015 3:23 PM - Printed Solid: aaargh. my brain doesn't work. mike kelly, what's that filament company I was asking about yesterday that I couldn't remember?
    Jul 8, 2015 3:23 PM - Mike Kelly: polymaker
Jul 8, 2015 3:24 PM - Printed Solid: thanks
Jul 8, 2015 3:24 PM - Mike Kelly: had to check the log...
Jul 8, 2015 3:24 PM - Printed Solid: don, the blowers really are much better. You can actually duct them and still get flow.
    Jul 8, 2015 3:24 PM - Printed Solid: I don't have it open.
    Jul 8, 2015 3:24 PM - Mike Kelly: i noticed
    Jul 8, 2015 3:24 PM - Printed Solid: I don't know why I have a mental block on them.
Jul 8, 2015 3:25 PM - donhuevo: the v6 won't be centered in the carriage but not nearly the end of the world
    Jul 8, 2015 3:25 PM - Mike Glass:
Jul 8, 2015 3:26 PM - Mike Kelly: nope that doesn't really matter
Jul 8, 2015 3:26 PM - Mike Kelly: we need to make walters tank extruder work on the robo
Jul 8, 2015 3:33 PM - Stephen Capistron: I'm slowly heading down that path. My main focus was switching to a groove mount hot end with a wade style extruder mounted on top.
Jul 8, 2015 3:34 PM - Stephen Capistron: And actually have the fasteners for the groove mount face forward so they are easy to get at
Jul 8, 2015 3:36 PM - Mike Kelly: alright i think i've narrowed down what i want to buy from robotdigg
    Jul 8, 2015 3:36 PM - Mike Kelly: only 185...
Jul 8, 2015 3:41 PM - Stephen Capistron: Free shipping at that price?
    Jul 8, 2015 3:42 PM - Mike Kelly: nope
    Jul 8, 2015 3:42 PM - Stephen Capistron: Ouch
Jul 8, 2015 3:43 PM - Mike Kelly: or at least i don't think so
    Jul 8, 2015 3:43 PM - Mike Kelly: we'll see
Jul 8, 2015 3:43 PM - Mike Kelly: i think i need to trim a bit more fat off
Jul 8, 2015 3:46 PM - Mike Kelly: they don't quote shipping until you pay i think
Jul 8, 2015 3:46 PM - Mike Kelly: you gotta submit your cart first
Jul 8, 2015 3:46 PM - Stephen Capistron: Just like mcmaster
    Jul 8, 2015 3:47 PM - Mike Kelly: yup
Jul 8, 2015 3:47 PM - Stephen Capistron: Though if you call them they'd quote a price
Jul 8, 2015 3:55 PM - Printed Solid: that submit your cart, then get a surprise bill after you pay for shipping is insane.
Jul 8, 2015 3:55 PM - Printed Solid: I don't know how big companies get away with it.
Jul 8, 2015 3:56 PM - Printed Solid: I'd be skewered if I tried pulling that crap
Jul 8, 2015 4:04 PM - Stephen Capistron: In this day I feel like you are best served by adding $5 to each item and just advertising free shipping
    Jul 8, 2015 5:13 PM - jbigler1986: Ufh
Jul 8, 2015 5:14 PM - jbigler1986: Just cleaned a jam from this morning due to my dumbass. Print failed on first layer. Just shut of the printer bc i was pissed.
Jul 8, 2015 5:15 PM - jbigler1986: Cleaned it and put it back together. Pulled the ground wire from one of the parts fans. Now gotta solder it back to the fans pcb.
    Jul 8, 2015 5:26 PM - jbigler1986: Never fails.

    Jul 8, 2015 5:32 PM - donhuevo: damnit jb
Jul 8, 2015 5:35 PM - jbigler1986: I know right. Got the extruder edited. Just trying to print it. Lol
    Jul 8, 2015 5:47 PM - donhuevo: I'm still conceiving my new v6 carriage. I think it's gonna be a while
    Jul 8, 2015 5:48 PM - jbigler1986: What r u thinking
Jul 8, 2015 5:50 PM - donhuevo: this is as far as I've gotten... [IMG]
Jul 8, 2015 5:54 PM - jbigler1986: How is it gonna be held on place?
    Jul 8, 2015 5:54 PM - jbigler1986: The hotend that is
Jul 8, 2015 5:55 PM - donhuevo: still working on a top end kinda like this [IMG]
    Jul 8, 2015 6:06 PM - jbigler1986: Nice
    Jul 8, 2015 6:07 PM - jbigler1986: Fan is soldered back
    Jul 8, 2015 6:07 PM - donhuevo: yay!
Jul 8, 2015 6:07 PM - donhuevo: hurry and up and print
Jul 8, 2015 6:10 PM - daniel871: Well, reversing the plug fixed the extruder. Now I just have to get the tension screws right so that the thing will go without stripping out the filament as soon as it starts turning.
    Jul 8, 2015 6:11 PM - donhuevo: that's good news
Jul 8, 2015 6:11 PM - daniel871: Or figure out what is causing it to strip so fast.
Jul 8, 2015 6:11 PM - daniel871: I'm assuming tension screws and gradually tightening them.
Jul 8, 2015 6:11 PM - daniel871: (Started off with them just barely threaded and holding the bearing against the hobbed bolt)
    Jul 8, 2015 6:12 PM - daniel871: Theoretically
Jul 8, 2015 6:12 PM - daniel871: Now about four or five half-turns in on each screw.
Jul 8, 2015 6:12 PM - donhuevo: brush your hobs teeth before you start
Jul 8, 2015 6:12 PM - donhuevo: brush after every filament meal
    Jul 8, 2015 6:12 PM - daniel871: :p
Jul 8, 2015 6:13 PM - daniel871: Using Waldo's firmware as well. I like how the auto-level runs on it.
Jul 8, 2015 6:14 PM - daniel871: Also now the homing/autolevel ends up with the bed back on the actual outline printed on it for the heated area. The Robo firmware had it about 1" off toward the rear.
    Jul 8, 2015 6:14 PM - daniel871: When doing the autolevel points.
Jul 8, 2015 6:15 PM - daniel871: Dual fans triggered the temp drop the first time they came on, lol.
Jul 8, 2015 6:20 PM - donhuevo: if they're blowing on your heater block, that could cause jamming too
Jul 8, 2015 6:22 PM - daniel871: Not clogging. The filament goes right on thru when I set up and turn the gear by hand. it just strips when the motor kicks in.
Jul 8, 2015 6:22 PM - daniel871: Hm. Maybe I need to change the acceleration on the extruder?
Jul 8, 2015 6:23 PM - daniel871: Let me look up what Waldo's firmware has for it and compare to the Robo firmware.
Jul 8, 2015 6:23 PM - jim3Dbot: Wow! I had same problem, printing 9" part, warped & lifted, towards rear. Used Ir gun & found heater was not centered. Revised Y bed center number, cured problem.
Jul 8, 2015 6:24 PM - daniel871: Hm. Both firmwares have 10000 as the extruder acceleration
Jul 8, 2015 6:25 PM - daniel871: Ah. Robo has 723.38 for the esteps and Waldo has an even 780 for the esteps
Jul 8, 2015 6:26 PM - daniel871: Now I'm trying to figure out if Waldo's number would slot things down or speed things up.
    Jul 8, 2015 6:26 PM - jbigler1986: It varies
Jul 8, 2015 6:26 PM - daniel871: Need more coffee, but too late for another cup.
    Jul 8, 2015 6:26 PM - daniel871: slot = slow
Jul 8, 2015 6:27 PM - jbigler1986: Never trust some elses esteps. Calibrate yours
Jul 8, 2015 6:31 PM - daniel871: Seems odd that I'd have to if the setup is stock Robo other than a new motor for the extruder (which matches stock specs except it's 64oz-in instead of 48oz-in)
    Jul 8, 2015 6:35 PM - jbigler1986: I would still do it
Jul 8, 2015 7:01 PM - daniel871: Trimmed the PTFE tubing down a bit, it was rubbing right up about halfway around the hob and may have been interfering with the tensioner operation.
Jul 8, 2015 7:01 PM - daniel871: Also filling the hob with PTFE bits.
    Jul 8, 2015 7:04 PM - jbigler1986: Printing the extruder. Finally
Jul 8, 2015 7:07 PM - jbigler1986: Are you running normal gregs wade again
    Jul 8, 2015 7:12 PM - daniel871: Yes.
Jul 8, 2015 7:12 PM - daniel871: Was going back to basically stock + volcano
Jul 8, 2015 7:13 PM - jbigler1986: Should stick with trying ro solve direct
Jul 8, 2015 7:14 PM - jbigler1986: Bowden has been pissing me off but i refuse to give up. Learning a lot on the way
Jul 8, 2015 7:15 PM - daniel871: I'll go back to it when the MK7 gear comes in, right now all I have is the stock Wade and the gears that go with it.
Jul 8, 2015 7:15 PM - daniel871: So regular stepper + Wade, trying to get running again.
Jul 8, 2015 7:16 PM - daniel871: It's bugging me because the esteps appear to be right and the thing will extrude fine when manually ordering however many mm of filament to extrude. But when an actual print starts it seems to strip within a few mm of starting.
Jul 8, 2015 7:17 PM - daniel871: It's like the hotend fan isn't cooling fast enough and the filament gets too soft while waiting for the program to start.
Jul 8, 2015 7:19 PM - daniel871: It's running and sounds about like always and I can feel a slight breeze coming thru the back side of the carriage while it is on.
    Jul 8, 2015 7:19 PM - daniel871: So that can't be right.
Jul 8, 2015 7:19 PM - daniel871: Back = Left/right depending on how you look at the carriage, not back of the machine.
    Jul 8, 2015 7:35 PM - jbigler1986: so it is or isn't working?
Jul 8, 2015 7:36 PM - daniel871: Totally dead as of right now.
Jul 8, 2015 7:36 PM - daniel871: Won't even come on when turning the power switch on.
    Jul 8, 2015 7:36 PM - daniel871: God fucking damnit.
    Jul 8, 2015 7:36 PM - daniel871: Is there a fuse anywhere I can check?
    Jul 8, 2015 7:37 PM - jbigler1986: got me on that one
    Jul 8, 2015 7:37 PM - jbigler1986: fuck you shaxon
    Jul 8, 2015 7:38 PM - daniel871: Who is shaxon?
    Jul 8, 2015 7:38 PM - jbigler1986: cheap brand of filament
Jul 8, 2015 7:39 PM - jbigler1986: getting towards the end of the spool and it's bent like hell so it jams in the ptfe tube. just figured it out
Jul 8, 2015 7:40 PM - jbigler1986: using justpla now and it's getting towards the end of the spool but it's fine
Jul 8, 2015 7:42 PM - daniel871: Sent a reply off of the email where I asked for some more wires for the extruder motor because they were loose in the plug. Maybe I'll get some help.
    Jul 8, 2015 7:42 PM - jbigler1986: to robo?
    Jul 8, 2015 7:42 PM - daniel871: Yep.
Jul 8, 2015 7:42 PM - daniel871: Brian was looking to see if he could find any of the wires lying around for the original motor.
Jul 8, 2015 7:43 PM - jbigler1986: he seems good and i know Jerry is good. the others I cannot say the same
Jul 8, 2015 7:44 PM - daniel871: This shit with little things fucking up and breaking is pissing me off even if they are relatively easy fixes.
    Jul 8, 2015 7:44 PM - jbigler1986: i know. i haven't really printed in like a week or so
Jul 8, 2015 7:45 PM - daniel871: And the thing with the main power switch has me getting pissed because I know for a fact that it isn't from anything I've been doing.
Jul 8, 2015 7:45 PM - daniel871: Turn the machine off when it fails after aborting the print, wait a minute, turn it back on.
Jul 8, 2015 7:45 PM - daniel871: No wait, now something inside has decided that the power supply isn't going to work any more.
    Jul 8, 2015 7:47 PM - jbigler1986: sounds like something came loose
    Jul 8, 2015 7:47 PM - daniel871: Between the plug-in and the PSU? How?
Jul 8, 2015 7:48 PM - daniel871: It isn't like there are any moving parts other than the switch itself and the cooling fan.
Jul 8, 2015 7:48 PM - daniel871: At the very least the fan in the PSU should come on.
    Jul 8, 2015 7:48 PM - jbigler1986: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/jbigler1986
    Jul 8, 2015 7:49 PM - jbigler1986: going to bed.
    Jul 8, 2015 7:53 PM - jbigler1986: Sorry i cant help out more tonight
Jul 8, 2015 8:08 PM - daniel871: Weird as hell. I plug in the USB and the LCD screen lights up and displays options as usual.
    Jul 8, 2015 8:09 PM - daniel871: So definitely a PSU problem then.
Jul 8, 2015 8:10 PM - donhuevo: did you put a multimeter on the screws on the psu?
    Jul 8, 2015 8:13 PM - daniel871: No.
Jul 8, 2015 8:14 PM - daniel871: I was clearing filament jams and chatting on here between power down/power up cycles.
    Jul 8, 2015 8:14 PM - daniel871: Or filament stripping, not jamming.
    Jul 8, 2015 8:16 PM - donhuevo: gotcha
Jul 8, 2015 8:16 PM - daniel871: Maybe Brian will be of some help.
Jul 8, 2015 8:45 PM - Mike Kelly: ah it's nice to have the robo up and printing again
Jul 8, 2015 8:46 PM - donhuevo: glad to hear it

    Jul 9, 2015 3:37 AM - jbigler1986: Haven't heard a good chuck norris joke in a while
Jul 9, 2015 3:40 AM - Bill Monroe: double stuff oreos and raspberry snapple breakfast ....mmmmmmm....
    Jul 9, 2015 3:49 AM - jbigler1986: Healthy as can be
Jul 9, 2015 3:50 AM - Bill Monroe: I'm counting on the crash after the sugar rush knocking me out for a 3 hour nap :)
Jul 9, 2015 4:39 AM - jbigler1986: I cant nap during the day. If i do its game over. Im tired the rest of the day
Jul 9, 2015 4:55 AM - JeffTheMess: Good morning robonauts
    Jul 9, 2015 4:59 AM - jbigler1986: morning Jeff
Jul 9, 2015 5:04 AM - JeffTheMess: Hey JB, haven't been updated lately, you ever finish that gumball machine?
    Jul 9, 2015 5:07 AM - jbigler1986: I did
Jul 9, 2015 5:07 AM - JeffTheMess: how it came out? it worked?
    Jul 9, 2015 5:07 AM - jbigler1986: http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?threads/vend-machine-candy-dispenser.5406/
Jul 9, 2015 5:09 AM - JeffTheMess: nice, very nice
Jul 9, 2015 5:10 AM - jbigler1986: works great. if you make it i would edit the drum. it gives way to much candy
Jul 9, 2015 5:11 AM - JeffTheMess: all pla right
    Jul 9, 2015 5:11 AM - jbigler1986: yeah
Jul 9, 2015 5:23 AM - daniel871: Assuming I'm on my own frankensteining my Robo into working again, does anyone have a list of the electronics needed starting at the power supply and going to the stepper and heater wires?
Jul 9, 2015 5:24 AM - JeffTheMess: what have you done
    Jul 9, 2015 5:25 AM - daniel871: The power supply died yesterday.
Jul 9, 2015 5:25 AM - daniel871: Things light up on the USB connection but the actual main power switch does nothing.
Jul 9, 2015 5:26 AM - daniel871: I can flash firmware all day long if I want, but not actually do anything.
    Jul 9, 2015 5:26 AM - Mike Glass: http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Reg...36444928&sr=8-2&keywords=12+volt+power+supply
Jul 9, 2015 5:27 AM - Mike Glass: although you could probably get one from robo.
Jul 9, 2015 5:29 AM - Mike Glass: didi you check it with a voltmeter?
Jul 9, 2015 5:30 AM - daniel871: Not yet, but I've seen enough bad PSUs at work to know when a crappy one has burned out.
Jul 9, 2015 5:31 AM - daniel871: Or at least a crappy switch is broken.
Jul 9, 2015 5:31 AM - Mike Glass: guess if you dont hear the fan running on it, then its prolly dead
    Jul 9, 2015 5:32 AM - daniel871: No fan of any kind.
Jul 9, 2015 5:32 AM - JeffTheMess: how old is your robo?
    Jul 9, 2015 5:32 AM - daniel871: April this year.
Jul 9, 2015 5:33 AM - Mike Glass: warranty will cover that
    Jul 9, 2015 5:33 AM - Mike Glass: submit a replacement part
Jul 9, 2015 5:33 AM - donhuevo: you could try bypassing the switch as well
Jul 9, 2015 5:34 AM - daniel871: Problem is I still haven't recieved the replacement stepper from robo for the one that died three weeks ago. I have zero confidence I'll get anything on the rest of it.
Jul 9, 2015 5:34 AM - JeffTheMess: that was a quick death of a ps
Jul 9, 2015 5:35 AM - Mike Glass: yep, I would check with a meter to start off
Jul 9, 2015 5:35 AM - Mike Glass: I hear ya, took me 2 months to get x axis rods replaced.
Jul 9, 2015 5:36 AM - Mike Glass: I actually ended up buying parts from amazon to get it going.
Jul 9, 2015 5:36 AM - Mike Glass: on top they sent me really bad rods.
Jul 9, 2015 5:37 AM - Mike Glass: then another pair, that were better but still crap
Jul 9, 2015 5:37 AM - daniel871: That's what I've been doing and I'm at the point where I'm ready to let it collect dust until I can afford to build one myself for all the trouble I'm going to anyway.
Jul 9, 2015 5:37 AM - Mike Glass: last pair I got are perfect.
    Jul 9, 2015 5:44 AM - jbigler1986: they sent me parts within a week 2 different times
    Jul 9, 2015 5:44 AM - jbigler1986: morning MG and Don
    Jul 9, 2015 5:46 AM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Jul 9, 2015 5:47 AM - jbigler1986: i turned down retraction distance and speed just so it would finish. that's why it's so stringy
Jul 9, 2015 5:48 AM - jbigler1986: gonna need to round the right side for the bearing.
    Jul 9, 2015 5:48 AM - donhuevo: morning jb.
Jul 9, 2015 5:50 AM - jbigler1986: will try that out. should do the trick
Jul 9, 2015 5:51 AM - donhuevo: ya, after a haircut, it looks promising
    Jul 9, 2015 5:52 AM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Jul 9, 2015 5:53 AM - jbigler1986: i could make the one on top longer and round it. but it should do
Jul 9, 2015 5:55 AM - donhuevo: what's the diameter of the filament channel?
    Jul 9, 2015 5:55 AM - jbigler1986: top or bottom one?
    Jul 9, 2015 5:55 AM - donhuevo: both
    Jul 9, 2015 5:56 AM - jbigler1986: top is 2.5mm and bottom is 4.3mm i believe i did it at
Jul 9, 2015 5:57 AM - donhuevo: that should work. you may want to clean out the top one with a drill bit close to 2.5mm
    Jul 9, 2015 5:57 AM - jbigler1986: yeah i always do
    Jul 9, 2015 5:57 AM - jbigler1986: same with bottom too
    Jul 9, 2015 5:58 AM - donhuevo: cool
Jul 9, 2015 5:58 AM - jbigler1986: also tossed the spool of orangw
