Aug 5, 2015 4:18 AM - bamhm182: Got my conversion plate printed and tested. The wires look like garbage right now, but I plan on cleaning all that up. Just kind of wanted to see what it would look like
Aug 5, 2015 4:19 AM - bamhm182: I failed to think about where the holes to align to the current Mega holes would go, so I just stuck them in the middle. Turns out that was a bad call. Ended up using one of my old Megas as a template and drilling new holes
Aug 5, 2015 4:20 AM - bamhm182: Also, all those black screws are nylon, so I don't have to worry about the coming undone and shorting anything
Aug 5, 2015 4:42 AM - jim3Dbot: Just wondering, whats the wht box?
    Aug 5, 2015 4:45 AM - bamhm182: It's my Robo
Aug 5, 2015 4:46 AM - bamhm182: I fried the Mega 2560 and bought a replacement, then that one was broken as well, but at the same time I bought this Sainsmart RAMPs/Mega 2560 2-in-1, but it was a lot bigger.
Aug 5, 2015 4:47 AM - bamhm182: The black screws in the left picture are the corners of the original board, the orange is the size of the new one
Aug 5, 2015 4:51 AM - jim3Dbot: It's me, that looks small fot the robo enclosure....wiring can be cleaned up with some nylon spiral wrap...like the adaptor plate idea...
Aug 5, 2015 4:53 AM - bamhm182: I've got some better sleeving than the nylon spiral wrap
Aug 5, 2015 4:54 AM - bamhm182: Will probably end up using that
Aug 5, 2015 4:54 AM - bamhm182: Also planning on cutting some cable hangers into the robo
    Aug 5, 2015 4:55 AM - bamhm182: [IMG]
Aug 5, 2015 4:55 AM - bamhm182: This is another side project I've been working on tonight
Aug 5, 2015 4:55 AM - jim3Dbot: yeah the mesh, flexible stuff.......the 3M 4 ways ty-wrap holders stick well to the case...no need to drill holes....
Aug 5, 2015 4:56 AM - bamhm182: This thing is going to be MASSIVE. It's got a 5" screen, the XYBA buttons are the size of Xbox 360 buttons
Aug 5, 2015 4:57 AM - jim3Dbot: not a gamer but, excellent job on that case....
Aug 5, 2015 4:57 AM - bamhm182: Yeah, might end up doing that too
Aug 5, 2015 4:57 AM - bamhm182: I think I could get it to look a bit better with some holes though
    Aug 5, 2015 4:57 AM - bamhm182: Thanks
Aug 5, 2015 4:58 AM - bamhm182: Also planning on tossing Raspbian and Kodi on there as well for general purpose use and media, in addition to the emulators that this thing was obviously made for
    Aug 5, 2015 4:59 AM - jim3Dbot: xcellent
    Aug 5, 2015 4:59 AM - bamhm182: Yup
Aug 5, 2015 4:59 AM - bamhm182: I really should be sleeping as of like 3 hours ago...
Aug 5, 2015 5:00 AM - bamhm182: Hopefully I can make some good headway on the back half of the case tomorrow and get it printed within the next few days
Aug 5, 2015 5:01 AM - jim3Dbot: I'm ready for breakfast, hav a good 1......nice to see members designin' their own stuff. later

Aug 5, 2015 6:50 AM - jbigler1986: shouldn't be. but not different than people buying a 3d printer and can't afford filament for it

Aug 5, 2015 9:58 AM - Mike Kelly: MG for the 28 1.25" (31.75mm) bolts, would it be better to go under 30mm or over 35mm
Aug 5, 2015 9:59 AM - Mike Glass: what parts do they hold cause most of those are dead on
Aug 5, 2015 10:00 AM - Mike Kelly: i think those are all the bearing holders
Aug 5, 2015 10:00 AM - Mike Glass: on the middle z parts?
Aug 5, 2015 10:00 AM - Mike Kelly: i dunno man you built it lol
    Aug 5, 2015 10:01 AM - Mike Kelly: it calls for 28 5/16" - 1.25" bolts
Aug 5, 2015 10:01 AM - Mike Glass: those are critical there they are super tight, meaning the bolts and nuts fit perfect with no room to make longer or shorter
    Aug 5, 2015 10:02 AM - Mike Glass: a few mm shorter should'nt make a difference
Aug 5, 2015 10:03 AM - Mike Kelly: ok i figured shorter (1.5mm) is pretty marginal
Aug 5, 2015 10:03 AM - Mike Glass: 35 mm you may end up cutting a few that are in tight spaces.
Aug 5, 2015 10:04 AM - Mike Glass: all of them fit perfect, no bolt sticking out the ends as I recall, at least on the middle z parts
Aug 5, 2015 10:05 AM - Mike Glass: did you print the new Z parts btw?
Aug 5, 2015 10:07 AM - Mike Kelly: nope not yet
Aug 5, 2015 10:08 AM - Mike Glass: I need to cut something, I have not used it yet, but holy hell its nice and tight now.
Aug 5, 2015 10:08 AM - Mike Glass: He is working on a new version now, so should see alot of changes coming soon.
Aug 5, 2015 10:09 AM - Mike Kelly: heh of course
Aug 5, 2015 10:09 AM - Mike Glass: But I think it is a new design.
Aug 5, 2015 10:10 AM - Mike Glass: He is making a micro adjusting feet now at my request.
Aug 5, 2015 10:10 AM - Mike Kelly: neat how does that work
Aug 5, 2015 10:11 AM - Mike Glass: kinda like the adjustable cable tentioners work
Aug 5, 2015 10:12 AM - Mike Glass: Will see what he comes up with, was just an idea I poked at him, he tells me I keep him very busy..lol
    Aug 5, 2015 10:14 AM - Mike Kelly: haha
Aug 5, 2015 10:14 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah he said 30mm is probably best
Aug 5, 2015 10:14 AM - Mike Kelly: i might buy a handful of 35 just to have in case
Aug 5, 2015 10:16 AM - Mike Kelly: what the hell are speed washers
Aug 5, 2015 10:24 AM - Mike Glass: I just used regular washers, they hold the belt from going anywhere off the bearings.
Aug 5, 2015 10:25 AM - Mike Kelly: aren't those the fender washers
Aug 5, 2015 10:26 AM - Mike Glass: I think I just ended up getting them from lowes
Aug 5, 2015 10:26 AM - Mike Glass: cant remember that long ago..lol

Aug 5, 2015 10:28 AM - Mike Glass: yep they are the fender washers on the fastenal
Aug 5, 2015 10:29 AM - Mike Kelly: i'm in such a sour mood for some reason

Aug 5, 2015 10:30 AM - Mike Kelly: are you pretty happy with your choice to go steel? i'm considering going stainless but not sure it's worth it
Aug 5, 2015 10:38 AM - Mike Glass: the EMT?
Aug 5, 2015 10:43 AM - Mike Glass: The Galvanized flakes is the only thing I dont care for, but I clean it everytime with wd40 keep it off the bearings, it wears away eventually.
Aug 5, 2015 10:44 AM - Mike Glass: not sure if the stainless is as ridged?
Aug 5, 2015 10:44 AM - Mike Kelly: no the bolts
    Aug 5, 2015 10:47 AM - jbigler1986: 3d print the bolts. come on
Aug 5, 2015 10:48 AM - Mike Glass: Oh bolts not worth it

Aug 5, 2015 11:29 AM - Bill Monroe: ya but I can do it safe, legal, and relaxing :)
Aug 5, 2015 11:30 AM - Mike Kelly: oh lame
Aug 5, 2015 11:31 AM - Bill Monroe: that lady must watch How's It Made?
Aug 5, 2015 11:31 AM - Bill Monroe: they refer to everyone as a "worker"
Aug 5, 2015 11:33 AM - PeterkSharma: you should print the nut
Aug 5, 2015 11:33 AM - toy: f u fastnall, i will never shop their, they DO NOT accept cash, wtf
Aug 5, 2015 11:33 AM - Seshan: now I gotta figure out how I will attach this nut to the robo,
Aug 5, 2015 11:34 AM - Seshan: thinking of drilling out a coupling nut and gluing in this one
    Aug 5, 2015 11:34 AM - jbigler1986: ?
Aug 5, 2015 11:34 AM - Seshan: i got lead screws, but not from robo so i don't have there nut
    Aug 5, 2015 11:34 AM - PeterkSharma: for what
Aug 5, 2015 11:35 AM - Mike Kelly: seshan which kind did you get
    Aug 5, 2015 11:35 AM - PeterkSharma: hot glued

Aug 5, 2015 11:36 AM - jbigler1986: probably have to print the lead screw adapter
Aug 5, 2015 11:36 AM - Mike Kelly: bah humbug bolt depot doesn't sell M3.5
Aug 5, 2015 11:36 AM - Seshan: the round nut

Aug 5, 2015 11:36 AM - Mike Kelly: what's the bolt pattern dimensions?
    Aug 5, 2015 11:36 AM - jbigler1986: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:764780
Aug 5, 2015 11:37 AM - jbigler1986: i only used one screw then super glued the nut to the adapte
Aug 5, 2015 11:37 AM - Seshan: ahh that would work
Aug 5, 2015 11:37 AM - Seshan: and that works with the auto leveling to?
    Aug 5, 2015 11:37 AM - jbigler1986: yeah
    Aug 5, 2015 11:37 AM - Mike Kelly: alt option: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:370914
Aug 5, 2015 11:39 AM - jbigler1986: his length is probably the same as mine though. so i would use the first one
Aug 5, 2015 11:39 AM - toy: be careful ordering linear steppers on ebay, i got burnted even though the picture showed one i still got stupid couplers
    Aug 5, 2015 11:39 AM - jbigler1986: i very very rarely use ebay
Aug 5, 2015 11:40 AM - Seshan: thanks, ill print both, see what works better
    Aug 5, 2015 11:40 AM - Seshan: toy I got a custom length 450mm from aliexpress
Aug 5, 2015 11:40 AM - Mike Glass: MK, Single nut is for the z threaded rod.
    Aug 5, 2015 11:41 AM - jbigler1986: oh. then print the 2nd one
Aug 5, 2015 11:41 AM - jbigler1986: 1st one is if you have shorter screws
Aug 5, 2015 11:47 AM - Mike Kelly: alright just ordered
Aug 5, 2015 11:53 AM - Mike Glass: So end of this month you going to have a working cnc?
    Aug 5, 2015 12:29 PM - Mike Kelly: haha
Aug 5, 2015 12:29 PM - Mike Kelly: i like your confidence in me
Aug 5, 2015 12:38 PM - Mike Kelly: hmm difference between IE z middle and regular...
    Aug 5, 2015 12:41 PM - Mike Glass: International
Aug 5, 2015 12:42 PM - Mike Glass: for the europeeing folk
    Aug 5, 2015 12:42 PM - Mike Kelly: ah
Aug 5, 2015 12:43 PM - Mike Glass: sounds like 5 axis maybe coming to the next version.
Aug 5, 2015 12:44 PM - Mike Glass: or revision..at least there was a not yet! when asked..lol
Aug 5, 2015 12:45 PM - Mike Kelly: heh i saw your comment on his fb
Aug 5, 2015 12:46 PM - Mike Glass: guess you should start at the 4th axis first.
    Aug 5, 2015 1:09 PM - Mike Kelly:
Aug 5, 2015 1:09 PM - Mike Kelly: it doesn't even seem to be printing the support layers..
    Aug 5, 2015 1:10 PM - jbigler1986: did you break it
    Aug 5, 2015 1:11 PM - jbigler1986: yep. air printing
    Aug 5, 2015 1:11 PM - jbigler1986: wait
Aug 5, 2015 1:12 PM - Mike Kelly: just killed it
Aug 5, 2015 1:12 PM - Mike Kelly: i think it's like retracting the filament before it starts a print
Aug 5, 2015 1:12 PM - Mike Kelly: really annoying
    Aug 5, 2015 1:12 PM - jbigler1986: sucks
Aug 5, 2015 1:14 PM - Mike Kelly: i've got to figure out how to extrude from the second extruder on the LCD
    Aug 5, 2015 1:14 PM - jbigler1986: how did that frog look
Aug 5, 2015 1:14 PM - Mike Glass: looked good after it was blasted and vapored
Aug 5, 2015 1:15 PM - jbigler1986: god damn those blue leds are so bright
Aug 5, 2015 1:19 PM - daniel871: I think the firmware has to have an option for the 2nd extruder for the LCD section of the code, similar to how you can do independent temps for the nozzles.
Aug 5, 2015 1:21 PM - daniel871: It ought to be an option since you have independent nozzle temp controls on the LCD anyway.
    Aug 5, 2015 1:33 PM - jbigler1986: that it should
Aug 5, 2015 1:34 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah i know it is possible
Aug 5, 2015 1:34 PM - Mike Kelly: but it requires :effort:
Aug 5, 2015 1:36 PM - jbigler1986: it should give you the option after you pick which axis to move. then nozzle0 or nozzle1
    Aug 5, 2015 1:37 PM - Mike Glass: Hips
Aug 5, 2015 1:37 PM - jbigler1986: where is ziggy when you need him
Aug 5, 2015 1:39 PM - Mike Kelly: heh it's funny to me the sound is getting picked up from the lifecam
Aug 5, 2015 1:39 PM - Mike Kelly: you can hear how loud those new steppers are

Aug 5, 2015 1:40 PM - TxKent: Did any of you guys see this: http://www.woot.com/plus/flashforge-creator-3d-printers?ref=cnt_wp_1
Aug 5, 2015 1:40 PM - TxKent: Oh, and first: "Greetings everybody!"
    Aug 5, 2015 1:40 PM - Mike Kelly: nope
Aug 5, 2015 1:41 PM - TxKent: 729 for a dual extruder... I don't know if they are any good.
Aug 5, 2015 1:41 PM - jbigler1986: we run deals with them sometimes. the are a pain in the ass
Aug 5, 2015 1:41 PM - TxKent: Woot is a pain... yes. I'm waiting on a hard drive right now that shipped about 10 days after it should have.
    Aug 5, 2015 1:42 PM - jbigler1986: i don't even want a makerbot clone
Aug 5, 2015 1:42 PM - TxKent: Oh, so the FlashForge is a pain?
    Aug 5, 2015 1:43 PM - jbigler1986: idk. i know woot is. FlashForge i don't know enough about. But it's a makerbot clone
Aug 5, 2015 1:53 PM - TxKent: Reviews say you have to relevel the bed every other print or so. I think I'll pass.
Aug 5, 2015 2:01 PM - Mike Glass: not sure if that is such a big deal, I shut it off for a whole week on my robo, as long as you do a manual level its fine.
Aug 5, 2015 2:17 PM - Mike Glass: Is that hips your using for support MK
Aug 5, 2015 2:30 PM - Printed Solid: the flash forge is great in general. Amazing if you put in a few upgrades.
Aug 5, 2015 2:30 PM - Printed Solid: Robo goes from not so good to pretty good with upgrades.
Aug 5, 2015 2:30 PM - Printed Solid: Flashforge goes from good to great.
Aug 5, 2015 2:31 PM - Printed Solid: and it actually CAN be manually leveled, which is the right way to do it.
Aug 5, 2015 2:32 PM - TxKent: Oh... you shouldn't tell me that. It was hard to sell the wife on ONE 3d printer.
    Aug 5, 2015 2:33 PM - Printed Solid: lol.
Aug 5, 2015 2:33 PM - Printed Solid: sorry dude.
Aug 5, 2015 2:33 PM - Printed Solid: I actually resell them... I may be able to get you a discount and have you not deal with the woot thing.
Aug 5, 2015 2:34 PM - Printed Solid: although honestly, backing the big box kickstarter is probably the best thing going right now IMO.
Aug 5, 2015 2:34 PM - Mike Glass: yep, looks awesome
Aug 5, 2015 2:34 PM - Printed Solid: you will have to wait for fulfillment of course, but at least you know you're getting it from experts instead of...
Aug 5, 2015 2:35 PM - Printed Solid: who knows what on your typical kickstarter.
Aug 5, 2015 2:35 PM - Printed Solid: I think cobblebot was my fave. Don't complain about our delays or failure to respond to your messages or we'll sue you and refuse to ship!
Aug 5, 2015 2:36 PM - Mike Glass: Im will have the robo paid off this month so really looking into another printer.
Aug 5, 2015 2:37 PM - Blake Benefield: MG... I pulled tve trigger on hictop last night
Aug 5, 2015 2:37 PM - Printed Solid: back the big box. Get them up to the sensors perk!
    Aug 5, 2015 2:37 PM - Printed Solid: what's hictop?
Aug 5, 2015 2:38 PM - Blake Benefield: Prusa kit
Aug 5, 2015 2:38 PM - Mike Glass: cool bud.
Aug 5, 2015 2:39 PM - Blake Benefield: We will see
Aug 5, 2015 2:39 PM - Mike Glass: PS, not sure what the speed of the big box is, they were streaming some stuff but it was printing really slow, and was a big part
Aug 5, 2015 2:39 PM - Mike Glass: should be a 100mm/s printer at least wouldnt you think?
Aug 5, 2015 2:41 PM - Mike Glass: So how you doing blake, take the day off?
Aug 5, 2015 2:42 PM - Blake Benefield: Im ok. Went in after i got basic details sorted out
Aug 5, 2015 2:42 PM - Blake Benefield: The distraction was good
Aug 5, 2015 2:43 PM - Mike Glass: yea, hear yea there, again sorry to hear, had a tough year already.
Aug 5, 2015 2:44 PM - Mike Glass: I was waiting for your phone call this morning on my drive to work then looked at messenger.
Aug 5, 2015 2:46 PM - donhuevo: don't feel bad... he didn't call me either
    Aug 5, 2015 2:46 PM - Mike Glass: lurker
Aug 5, 2015 2:47 PM - donhuevo: no sir. I've been here all day commenting and being ignored. Ignorer
Aug 5, 2015 2:47 PM - Mike Glass: looks like MK's hips gave out.
Aug 5, 2015 2:47 PM - donhuevo: did he get dysplasia
Aug 5, 2015 2:48 PM - Mike Glass: not poopen out the white stuff.
Aug 5, 2015 2:49 PM - Blake Benefield: Yeah i was having to make other calls at that time
Aug 5, 2015 2:54 PM - Mike Glass: so you putting inductive heater on your bed don.
Aug 5, 2015 2:54 PM - donhuevo: no, just thought it could be cool
    Aug 5, 2015 2:54 PM - donhuevo: kind of an instant-on thing
    Aug 5, 2015 2:55 PM - bamhm182: Hey all
Aug 5, 2015 2:56 PM - Blake Benefield: I was considering auto level on the prusa... Seems sort of meh for a stationary printer. Csn always add it later if i change my mind
Aug 5, 2015 2:56 PM - Mike Glass: I still want to wire mine I can shut it off when a print is done.
    Aug 5, 2015 2:56 PM - bamhm182: Start small, build big
Aug 5, 2015 2:57 PM - bamhm182: The Robo 3D on its own is a pretty solid printer, for example, but the amount of mods you can do to it are endless. Basically the same for every printer
Aug 5, 2015 2:57 PM - Mike Glass: thats what I say in the bathroom.
Aug 5, 2015 2:57 PM - bamhm182: The only thing you really need to take into consideration is build volume
    Aug 5, 2015 2:57 PM - bamhm182: Haha
    Aug 5, 2015 2:58 PM - donhuevo: howdy bam
Aug 5, 2015 2:58 PM - Mike Glass: I may have to print that.
    Aug 5, 2015 2:58 PM - donhuevo: what? a Marvin?
    Aug 5, 2015 2:58 PM - Mike Glass: or a Duke
Aug 5, 2015 2:59 PM - Mike Glass: got my 60mm ramps fan holder printed last night, so that goes on and back to chair printing.
Aug 5, 2015 3:01 PM - donhuevo: how does 450mm robo build height sound?
Aug 5, 2015 3:01 PM - Mike Glass: topless yes.
Aug 5, 2015 3:02 PM - donhuevo: I still have to work out the new base bracket but the idler ends are sorted for the new carriage
Aug 5, 2015 3:04 PM - daniel871: One of these days I'll go a full week without some stock part tearing up.
Aug 5, 2015 3:05 PM - donhuevo: one of these days, all your stock parts will be replaced with your own
    Aug 5, 2015 3:05 PM - daniel871: Getting there.
Aug 5, 2015 3:06 PM - daniel871: Hotends and extruders, carriage and Z travel lead screws. Next is the bed.
    Aug 5, 2015 3:06 PM - bamhm182: Hey don
    Aug 5, 2015 3:06 PM - donhuevo: hey
Aug 5, 2015 3:07 PM - bamhm182: My 60mm fan holder is currently a pair of helping hands, haha
Aug 5, 2015 3:07 PM - donhuevo: mine mostly sit there not helping
Aug 5, 2015 3:08 PM - bamhm182: I'm still using the stock hotend/extruder, but sometime I'm going to screw it up again
Aug 5, 2015 3:08 PM - donhuevo: did you see the fan I put on my ramps?
Aug 5, 2015 3:08 PM - bamhm182: And at that point, I'll replace the carriage at the same time
    Aug 5, 2015 3:08 PM - bamhm182: Nope
    Aug 5, 2015 3:09 PM - donhuevo: [IMG]
Aug 5, 2015 3:11 PM - donhuevo: it's either a 6020 or 6025 but it's tall enough to blow across the top of the ramps
    Aug 5, 2015 3:22 PM - bamhm182: Looks like that would help
    Aug 5, 2015 3:23 PM - bamhm182: [IMG]
    Aug 5, 2015 3:23 PM - bamhm182: That's how I've got mine set up right now
    Aug 5, 2015 3:23 PM - bamhm182: [IMG]
Aug 5, 2015 3:24 PM - bamhm182: Up until this morning, that's how it was printing. It was much better the bottom way, but the board is actually installed in the top one
    Aug 5, 2015 3:25 PM - donhuevo: this looks like it would kick a ramp's ass... http://www.amazon.com/75mm-0-36A-Co...sim_147_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=17M5NESYM8SWKMRPYB8C
Aug 5, 2015 3:26 PM - Mike Kelly: that'd blow it out the bottom
Aug 5, 2015 3:26 PM - Mike Kelly: ugh damn just noticed the hips got stuck
Aug 5, 2015 3:27 PM - Mike Kelly: i've GOT to improve the spool holder arrangment before i try anything else
Aug 5, 2015 3:27 PM - donhuevo: I've been running the crap out of mine since I put the blower in but it's up on those 25mm feet
Aug 5, 2015 3:28 PM - donhuevo: the case above the ramps is cool
    Aug 5, 2015 3:28 PM - donhuevo: didn't used to be
    Aug 5, 2015 3:31 PM - bamhm182: Haha
    Aug 5, 2015 3:32 PM - bamhm182: Y'all see how I ended up mounting the Sainsmart board?
    Aug 5, 2015 3:32 PM - bamhm182: I think my stilts are like 60mm
Aug 5, 2015 3:33 PM - donhuevo: if it's different then the pic with the helping hands then no
    Aug 5, 2015 3:34 PM - donhuevo: *than
Aug 5, 2015 3:35 PM - bamhm182: Got an actual mount printed up last night
    Aug 5, 2015 3:35 PM - bamhm182: [IMG]
    Aug 5, 2015 3:35 PM - donhuevo: very nice
Aug 5, 2015 3:36 PM - bamhm182: Garbage quality, but you get the idea. I also didn't think about where I wanted the Mega 2560 holes well enough, so I ended up having to use one of my broken Megas as a template

Aug 5, 2015 3:36 PM - bamhm182: The wires are a total mess right now, but it's got the potential to look MUCH better than a traditional RAMPs
Aug 5, 2015 3:44 PM - bamhm182: Plus there's not all those wires over the board if you run them under the board like I did, so I imagine that can only help airflow
Aug 5, 2015 3:44 PM - donhuevo: running them under the boards is cool
Aug 5, 2015 3:47 PM - bamhm182: Yeah, I made sure to leave enough room to do that (10mm)
Aug 5, 2015 3:48 PM - bamhm182: Also used Nylon screws just to make sure none of them holding the mount to the printer wouldn't come loose and short anything out
Aug 5, 2015 3:50 PM - jbigler1986: only took almost 2 hours to get home
Aug 5, 2015 3:52 PM - Mike Kelly: por que?
Aug 5, 2015 3:53 PM - Mike Kelly: pork 'eh?
Aug 5, 2015 3:53 PM - Mike Kelly: canadian spanish
    Aug 5, 2015 3:53 PM - jbigler1986: traffic. idk why
    Aug 5, 2015 3:53 PM - jbigler1986: oh well
    Aug 5, 2015 3:53 PM - Mike Kelly: c'est la vie
    Aug 5, 2015 3:54 PM - jbigler1986: is it friday?
    Aug 5, 2015 3:55 PM - Mike Kelly: i so wish
Aug 5, 2015 3:55 PM - Mike Kelly: i also forgot i have a dr's appt at 10 and i'm supposed to be prepared to present my work to potential investors....
    Aug 5, 2015 3:55 PM - Mike Kelly: at 10
    Aug 5, 2015 3:55 PM - Mike Kelly: (ish)
    Aug 5, 2015 4:13 PM - Mike Glass: Oops
Aug 5, 2015 4:13 PM - bamhm182: The only reason that it is a good thing that I can't seem to keep my printer running is because everyone at work has come to accept that I probably can't waste a spool of filament on whatever stupid thing they want
Aug 5, 2015 4:14 PM - bamhm182: They keep wanting me to print out these knight's helmet trophy going away present things that eat nearly an entire spool of filament
Aug 5, 2015 4:20 PM - Mike Kelly: so i normally have to load the sd card from my computer to be able to use repetier hosts sd print
Aug 5, 2015 4:20 PM - Mike Kelly: anyone been able to do it where you load the g-code from repetier onto the sd?
Aug 5, 2015 4:27 PM - jbigler1986: Nope. I would get the to transfer but they wouldnt show up under the sd print in repetier
Aug 5, 2015 4:30 PM - jbigler1986: it would complete the transfer but then wouldn't show up in repetier that it was on the sd card
Aug 5, 2015 4:35 PM - Mike Glass: yea done it a few times but its slowwwww
Aug 5, 2015 4:47 PM - Bill Monroe: serial feed to an SD card is inherently slow, none of the slicers are any better
Aug 5, 2015 4:47 PM - Bill Monroe: octoprint is the worst
    Aug 5, 2015 6:01 PM - Mike Kelly: [IMG] http://imgur.com/a/I2m5T
Aug 5, 2015 6:04 PM - donhuevo: not sure what it is, but I like it
    Aug 5, 2015 6:04 PM - Mike Kelly: it's a spool holder
    Aug 5, 2015 6:05 PM - donhuevo: alrighty!
Aug 5, 2015 6:05 PM - Mike Kelly: i guess it's printing so good i'm kinda wondering if i should go lead screw
Aug 5, 2015 6:05 PM - donhuevo: sometimes it's hard to let go of your HfnC's
    Aug 5, 2015 6:06 PM - donhuevo: can I ask a servo question?
    Aug 5, 2015 6:08 PM - donhuevo: this is what I have... http://www.electronicoscaldas.com/datasheet/MG90S_Tower-Pro.pdf
Aug 5, 2015 6:09 PM - donhuevo: I have it plugged into the far right (D4) [IMG]
Aug 5, 2015 6:10 PM - donhuevo: Taurino, Ramps and USB power only. Firmware set as far as I know. do this... M280 P0 S100 and nothing happens
    Aug 5, 2015 6:16 PM - Mike Glass: try s0
Aug 5, 2015 6:16 PM - Bill Monroe: servo or stepper?
    Aug 5, 2015 6:16 PM - Mike Glass: servo
    Aug 5, 2015 6:16 PM - donhuevo: servo and tried different s's
Aug 5, 2015 6:16 PM - Bill Monroe: oh wait you mean those RC servos huh?
    Aug 5, 2015 6:17 PM - donhuevo: YEP
Aug 5, 2015 6:17 PM - Mike Glass: what did you put in the firmware to enable?
    Aug 5, 2015 6:17 PM - donhuevo: defined servo0_pin as 4
Aug 5, 2015 6:18 PM - donhuevo: uncommented the stuff at the end of configuration.h
Aug 5, 2015 6:19 PM - donhuevo: I don't have anything else connected to these boards except the servo and the USB
Aug 5, 2015 6:19 PM - Bill Monroe: certain the servo plug is the right direction?
Aug 5, 2015 6:19 PM - Mike Glass: did you jump the servo power
Aug 5, 2015 6:20 PM - donhuevo: per the pdf, orange is on the D4 pin
Aug 5, 2015 6:20 PM - donhuevo: jump the servo power...
Aug 5, 2015 6:20 PM - donhuevo: it's 5v and therefore should be pulling it from the mega
Aug 5, 2015 6:21 PM - Mike Glass: yes still have to have a jumper I think, thats what I did on the cnc
Aug 5, 2015 6:21 PM - Bill Monroe: perhaps there's a temp error since no thermistor and it's frozen the program
Aug 5, 2015 6:21 PM - donhuevo: that could be it
Aug 5, 2015 6:22 PM - Bill Monroe: Marlin really hates temp errors :)
Aug 5, 2015 6:22 PM - donhuevo: trying to think if I have a thermistor wired up with a plug...
    Aug 5, 2015 6:23 PM - Mike Glass: just use a 200k ohm resistor
Aug 5, 2015 6:23 PM - donhuevo: if I had one of those lying around...
Aug 5, 2015 6:28 PM - donhuevo: I'll take another run at it tomorrow. In the meantime... [IMG]
    Aug 5, 2015 6:28 PM - Mike Glass: 15k ohm
    Aug 5, 2015 6:28 PM - Mike Glass: 5v and vcc jumpered
    Aug 5, 2015 6:28 PM - Mike Glass: ?
Aug 5, 2015 6:29 PM - donhuevo: I have a little soldering to do to an old hot end thermistor and then I can plug it in and test again. don't have it in me tonight
    Aug 5, 2015 6:33 PM - Mike Glass: I had to jump the 5v and vcc here.[IMG]
Aug 5, 2015 6:34 PM - Mike Glass: look at this video he has it jumpered as well.
    Aug 5, 2015 6:35 PM - jbigler1986: New autolevel don?
Aug 5, 2015 6:36 PM - Mike Glass: that servo is huge
    Aug 5, 2015 6:38 PM - donhuevo: it's the biggest one I could find
Aug 5, 2015 6:39 PM - donhuevo: k... vcc and 5v jumpered but still no action. I think I need the thermistor in place
Aug 5, 2015 6:54 PM - donhuevo: ok... it thinks the extruder is at about 177C and still no movement
Aug 5, 2015 6:55 PM - Mike Kelly: might be lacking sufficient amperage
Aug 5, 2015 6:57 PM - donhuevo: I could bring a power supply into the mix
Aug 5, 2015 6:57 PM - Mike Glass: they take so little though, but could be.
Aug 5, 2015 6:58 PM - donhuevo: turns out the motor windings of a 40mm fan are the same resistance as a thermistor reading 177C
    Aug 5, 2015 7:01 PM - Mike Glass: nice
Aug 5, 2015 7:03 PM - donhuevo: MK, do you agree the vcc-5v jumper is necessary to run a servo?
    Aug 5, 2015 7:33 PM - Mike Kelly: uh
    Aug 5, 2015 7:33 PM - Mike Kelly: i don't think so
Aug 5, 2015 7:34 PM - Mike Kelly: the 3 pins are your digital pin, then 5v and ground
Aug 5, 2015 7:41 PM - donhuevo: it's all good now. got it working. found my two angles
    Aug 5, 2015 7:42 PM - Mike Kelly: good
Aug 5, 2015 7:53 PM - Mike Glass: So you dont need the jumper?
Aug 5, 2015 8:08 PM - Mike Glass: What color shouls I use on this chair besides white and smoke?
Aug 5, 2015 8:14 PM - donhuevo: it worked with the jumper so I left it
Aug 5, 2015 8:16 PM - Mike Glass: Oh.. should try without see what happens
Aug 5, 2015 8:16 PM - Mike Glass: I had to on mine is all I remember.
Aug 5, 2015 8:17 PM - Mike Glass: But I have different code on the cnc so dont know if that is correct
    Aug 5, 2015 8:18 PM - Mike Glass: I just winged it

    Aug 5, 2015 10:12 PM - Nickbrown17: Mike* sorry :)
Aug 6, 2015 4:31 AM - Bill Monroe: good morning
    Aug 6, 2015 4:56 AM - JeffTheMess: morning
Aug 6, 2015 4:57 AM - JeffTheMess: my hobbed bolt screwing me up!
Aug 6, 2015 4:57 AM - Bill Monroe: how so?
Aug 6, 2015 4:59 AM - JeffTheMess: keeps grinding my filament, i spent hours last night trying to tweak it with no good results
Aug 6, 2015 4:59 AM - Bill Monroe: ah... direct or bowden?
    Aug 6, 2015 4:59 AM - JeffTheMess: direct
Aug 6, 2015 5:00 AM - Bill Monroe: is it the stock unit from Robo?
    Aug 6, 2015 5:00 AM - JeffTheMess: yup
    Aug 6, 2015 5:00 AM - Bill Monroe: PLA?
    Aug 6, 2015 5:01 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah
    Aug 6, 2015 5:02 AM - JeffTheMess: might try this .....
Aug 6, 2015 5:02 AM - Bill Monroe: ok.. what temp are you using?
    Aug 6, 2015 5:02 AM - JeffTheMess: 210
Aug 6, 2015 5:03 AM - Bill Monroe: still have the factory hexagon?
Aug 6, 2015 5:04 AM - JeffTheMess: yup, if my printer was anymore stock it would be in there shop :)
    Aug 6, 2015 5:04 AM - Bill Monroe: :)
Aug 6, 2015 5:07 AM - Bill Monroe: you clean out the teeth after a grinding event, yes?
    Aug 6, 2015 5:08 AM - JeffTheMess: ofcourse
Aug 6, 2015 5:09 AM - Bill Monroe: ok.. nothing holding the filament back? spool is nice and free to turn?
Aug 6, 2015 5:10 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah, at first it printed a part just fine them second part started okay, but then nothing
Aug 6, 2015 5:11 AM - Bill Monroe: alrighty. I guess I'm leaning towards a restriction in the hot section.. making it harder to push the filament through
    Aug 6, 2015 5:11 AM - JeffTheMess: oh boy
    Aug 6, 2015 5:12 AM - JeffTheMess: sounds expensive
Aug 6, 2015 5:12 AM - Bill Monroe: its not a slam dunk.. but it's kinda leaning that way
Aug 6, 2015 5:13 AM - Bill Monroe: naw.. on theing to try is to get everything up to temp and manually turn the wheel about the same speed as it goes when running, see if you can feel intermittent changes in the way ot flows through
Aug 6, 2015 5:15 AM - Bill Monroe: try to think about anything that you're doing that might be raising the pressure in the nozzle more than usual.. faster extrusion rates, thin layers, etc..
Aug 6, 2015 5:16 AM - Bill Monroe: nozzles can sometimes get debris in them that partially blocks the flow.. usually purging with temps up high can help that.
Aug 6, 2015 5:16 AM - JeffTheMess: other than the pressure in my head...layers came out pretty much perfect when it was coming down, right now i think it is too tight
Aug 6, 2015 5:17 AM - Bill Monroe: changing plastic types a lot while using the same nozzle.....
Aug 6, 2015 5:18 AM - Bill Monroe: when I had issues with grinding, it was due to a very aggressive hob with too much clamping force. it raised up tooth makrs on the plastic essentially making the filament diamter larger
Aug 6, 2015 5:18 AM - Bill Monroe: doesnt sound like that's your problem though
Aug 6, 2015 5:21 AM - JeffTheMess: ahh...i don't think that was it...i guess more time with the printer i guess
Aug 6, 2015 5:26 AM - Bill Monroe: I used the totally stock extruder setup for a long time.. fairly successful
Aug 6, 2015 5:26 AM - Bill Monroe: but I will say ALL my extruder problems disappeared when I switched to the E3D unit.
Aug 6, 2015 5:26 AM - Bill Monroe: what would retraction? using a lot of it?
    Aug 6, 2015 5:32 AM - donhuevo: constipation
Aug 6, 2015 5:34 AM - JeffTheMess: oh..i want the e3d, i hear the same all the time
Aug 6, 2015 5:42 AM - Bill Monroe: Hi Don
    Aug 6, 2015 5:42 AM - donhuevo: morning Bill
    Aug 6, 2015 5:50 AM - jbigler1986: morning
    Aug 6, 2015 5:50 AM - donhuevo: sup jb
Aug 6, 2015 5:52 AM - JeffTheMess: morning don jb
    Aug 6, 2015 5:52 AM - donhuevo: hey jeff
    Aug 6, 2015 5:54 AM - jbigler1986: yeah the hobbed bolt doesn't like a ton of retraction
Aug 6, 2015 5:54 AM - jbigler1986: run a drill through the heatsink/heat break to clean it out
Aug 6, 2015 5:54 AM - donhuevo: with direct drive, you don't need much at all
Aug 6, 2015 5:55 AM - donhuevo: it's the filament slack in a bowden tube that takes extra retraction
    Aug 6, 2015 5:57 AM - JeffTheMess: should I try this?
Aug 6, 2015 5:57 AM - jbigler1986: probably slightly clogged. after you clean it out it should be good
Aug 6, 2015 5:57 AM - JeffTheMess: i want to start with the hobbed bolt first before i go on to the extruder, i think its the hobbed bolt
Aug 6, 2015 5:58 AM - JeffTheMess: ive had this problem before
Aug 6, 2015 5:58 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah i will clean it out
    Aug 6, 2015 5:58 AM - jbigler1986: hobb itself is probably fine
Aug 6, 2015 6:01 AM - JeffTheMess: i've gotten this twice, this morning [IMG]
Aug 6, 2015 6:01 AM - donhuevo: I've seen some effed up ways to make your own hob, that was not one of them. I like that method
Aug 6, 2015 6:02 AM - JeffTheMess: i stole that pic from the forum here
    Aug 6, 2015 6:02 AM - jbigler1986: yeah i agree. easy too
Aug 6, 2015 6:03 AM - jbigler1986: that means it's jamming in the hotend. hobbed is still pushing the filament though which is why it gets bent like that
    Aug 6, 2015 6:04 AM - donhuevo: ^
Aug 6, 2015 6:04 AM - Bill Monroe: ya know, if the hobb can keep pushing against a jam so well it can smoosh up the filament like that, do you really think the hob is the problem?
    Aug 6, 2015 6:04 AM - Bill Monroe: <hi5>
Aug 6, 2015 6:05 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah but that just twice out of the 30 times i didnt get filament out :)
Aug 6, 2015 6:06 AM - Bill Monroe: well then, go for it! :)
Aug 6, 2015 6:07 AM - donhuevo: still... there are lots of other things to suspect
Aug 6, 2015 6:07 AM - donhuevo: drag at the spool
Aug 6, 2015 6:07 AM - donhuevo: parts cooling fan putting too much air on the nozzle
Aug 6, 2015 6:07 AM - donhuevo: the partial clog
Aug 6, 2015 6:07 AM - Bill Monroe: "one test is worth a thousand expert opinions"
    Aug 6, 2015 6:07 AM - Bill Monroe: 1050 canadian
Aug 6, 2015 6:07 AM - donhuevo: yep. there needs to be some differential diagnoses going on
Aug 6, 2015 6:09 AM - JeffTheMess: well you guys no a shit ton more than i do so ill check on those things
Aug 6, 2015 6:09 AM - donhuevo: that pic eliminates the drag at the spool
Aug 6, 2015 6:09 AM - donhuevo: see if you get further in the same print by backing off on the cooling fan pct
    Aug 6, 2015 6:12 AM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Aug 6, 2015 6:12 AM - jbigler1986: Jam in the hotend. Drive gear kept pushing filament though
Aug 6, 2015 6:12 AM - donhuevo: ah... good times
    Aug 6, 2015 6:12 AM - JeffTheMess: ^ seems legit
Aug 6, 2015 6:13 AM - jbigler1986: more extreme example of what you have going on
Aug 6, 2015 6:14 AM - JeffTheMess: oh i had a good chunk out for one of the runs
Aug 6, 2015 6:14 AM - jbigler1986: and if you actually look at the filament you will see the ridges in the filament from the drive gear. which caused the jam
Aug 6, 2015 6:16 AM - JeffTheMess: was that your printer jb?
    Aug 6, 2015 6:17 AM - jbigler1986: YEP
Aug 6, 2015 6:18 AM - JeffTheMess: you came a long way, my friend
Aug 6, 2015 6:20 AM - jbigler1986: you saw my last pic of my setup didn't you?
Aug 6, 2015 6:21 AM - JeffTheMess: your profile pic?
    Aug 6, 2015 6:21 AM - jbigler1986: no
    Aug 6, 2015 6:21 AM - jbigler1986: hold on
    Aug 6, 2015 6:22 AM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
    Aug 6, 2015 6:23 AM - JeffTheMess: beauty
Aug 6, 2015 6:23 AM - jbigler1986: that was the last time i have seen my printer too.
    Aug 6, 2015 6:25 AM - jbigler1986: :( :(
Aug 6, 2015 6:26 AM - JeffTheMess: :( any luck on your campaign on getting another?
    Aug 6, 2015 6:26 AM - jbigler1986: i'm ordering the hictop today
Aug 6, 2015 6:27 AM - jbigler1986: since my wifes attorney refuses to respond to mine
Aug 6, 2015 6:33 AM - JeffTheMess: damn thats sucks
Aug 6, 2015 6:35 AM - jbigler1986: oh well. sent a settlement to get twice now. still haven't heard 1 thing from them. court next week. so we shall see
Aug 6, 2015 6:36 AM - jbigler1986: drill out the hotend and see if that fixes it

Aug 6, 2015 6:51 AM - JeffTheMess: who recommended that printer you getting? or was it your own reseach?
Aug 6, 2015 6:52 AM - jbigler1986: own research. i like to modify and upgrade anyways. so i'm sure if there is an issue it will get upgraded anyways
    Aug 6, 2015 6:54 AM - jbigler1986: this one http://www.amazon.com/HICTOP-Self-a...=1438869422&sr=8-2&keywords=hictop+3d+printer
Aug 6, 2015 6:56 AM - Bill Monroe: you can help me paint my house :)

Aug 6, 2015 6:57 AM - JeffTheMess: painting for a printer sounds good
Aug 6, 2015 7:10 AM - Mike Glass: JB, my buddy blake ordered the Hictop should have it today.
    Aug 6, 2015 7:10 AM - jbigler1986: which one
Aug 6, 2015 7:10 AM - Mike Glass: same one you linked, but in black
Aug 6, 2015 7:15 AM - jbigler1986: oh yeah. i am going to order that one too
Aug 6, 2015 7:17 AM - Mike Glass: reviews look good
Aug 6, 2015 7:18 AM - Mike Glass: other than no autolevel looks nice
Aug 6, 2015 7:18 AM - Mike Kelly: if you bed maintains a tram there's not much need for autolevel
Aug 6, 2015 7:19 AM - Mike Kelly: also morning
    Aug 6, 2015 7:19 AM - jbigler1986: yeah autolevel is a slut bed sometimes
    Aug 6, 2015 7:20 AM - jbigler1986: slut bag*
Aug 6, 2015 7:20 AM - JeffTheMess: just dont forget about us jb when you go Hictop
    Aug 6, 2015 7:21 AM - JeffTheMess: morning mike
Aug 6, 2015 7:21 AM - jbigler1986: oh i will be getting the robo back at some point too
    Aug 6, 2015 7:22 AM - JeffTheMess: ahh...nice two printers
Aug 6, 2015 7:23 AM - daniel871: Woah, I like the look of the bed assembly on that printer, JB.
Aug 6, 2015 7:24 AM - daniel871: Actual adjustment screws for leveling instead of auto-level software crap.
    Aug 6, 2015 7:25 AM - jbigler1986: yep
Aug 6, 2015 7:25 AM - jbigler1986: lead screws will be changed for sure
    Aug 6, 2015 7:27 AM - daniel871: An aluminum heated bed. Mmmm
    Aug 6, 2015 7:29 AM - JeffTheMess: ^
Aug 6, 2015 7:31 AM - jbigler1986: easy to toss on sheet of glass
Aug 6, 2015 7:34 AM - Mike Glass: Mornig MK, got a question for you, did you purchase the spindle motor yet for the cnc?
Aug 6, 2015 7:35 AM - Mike Kelly: not yet
Aug 6, 2015 7:36 AM - Mike Kelly: whys that
    Aug 6, 2015 7:36 AM - Mike Glass: got a 20% off coupon
    Aug 6, 2015 7:37 AM - JeffTheMess: boom!
Aug 6, 2015 7:37 AM - Mike Glass: so be around $41 shipped
    Aug 6, 2015 7:37 AM - Mike Kelly: nice
Aug 6, 2015 7:37 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah i need to grab one from my car
Aug 6, 2015 7:39 AM - Mike Glass: do you have one, if not you can have mine.
Aug 6, 2015 7:47 AM - nonmindo: hi all, first time printer here.... i had a question, im preheating before print, both bed and extruder, when it probes, it leaves behind little dots, is there a way to fix this, without turning off preheat? (still using MC... for now)
Aug 6, 2015 7:48 AM - Mike Kelly: retract a bit of filament before you start and clean the nozzle
    Aug 6, 2015 7:48 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah mike i got a bunch, get like 2 a week
Aug 6, 2015 7:48 AM - daniel871: A little bit of retraction and cleaning the tip of the nozzle first will do it. Just do a couple extra skirts around the print to prime the nozzle again.
Aug 6, 2015 7:50 AM - nonmindo: thanks guys, would it be ok to just retract manually like 1 or 2 clicks on the gear, or best to do with gcode?
Aug 6, 2015 7:51 AM - Mike Kelly: i always do it by spinning the gear a bit
Aug 6, 2015 7:51 AM - Mike Kelly: you can do it in g-code and that would also keep track of filament position
Aug 6, 2015 7:51 AM - daniel871: That or manual retraction with the control panel in MC if you use that.
Aug 6, 2015 7:53 AM - nonmindo: awesome thanks again.... been a few hours over a couple days since i got it and only managed a 3/4 calibration box.... still got some refining to do and learning....but im sure itll get going before weekend....thanks again, time for bed
    Aug 6, 2015 7:53 AM - donhuevo: friggin' boogers
Aug 6, 2015 7:53 AM - donhuevo: and if you don't remember to get all of them off the bed before the next print, the nozzle is going back to exactly the same place during autolevel
Aug 6, 2015 7:54 AM - nonmindo: i had been scraping them off after dropped, but i think its messing with the leveling acccuracy
Aug 6, 2015 7:54 AM - jbigler1986: well the autolevel can be a pain at times
Aug 6, 2015 7:55 AM - donhuevo: not sure how to tell you what you'd need to change to do a cold autolevel with MfnC
Aug 6, 2015 7:55 AM - JeffTheMess: if you have a skirt on manually retracting id s dont care, right?
    Aug 6, 2015 7:56 AM - daniel871:
Aug 6, 2015 7:56 AM - nonmindo: hah ya...my firs attempt to print it was doint the move over then up during probe....got that sorted....
Aug 6, 2015 7:56 AM - daniel871: Good grief the kid in the 3dhubs featured hub has the deadest eyes.
Aug 6, 2015 7:58 AM - daniel871: Honey, why don't you pose in front of the camera for my 3d printing business.
    Aug 6, 2015 7:58 AM - daniel871: [IMG]
    Aug 6, 2015 7:58 AM - Mike Kelly: "I hate you dad"
    Aug 6, 2015 7:58 AM - daniel871: Yep.

Aug 6, 2015 9:55 AM - quazi78: Hi guys. So quick question. If I am in matter control and extrude 100mm of filament, shouldn't that be a consistent speed that it comes out of the nozzle? Right now I get 3-4 seconds of consistent speed and then a bit of a hang, then 3-4 more seconds. I'm thinking that is the cause of some of my woes. That sound like a clog or something else?

Aug 6, 2015 8:44 PM - bamhm182: I feel like 1.3 mm is probably too drastic of an increase, where'd you get 1.3mm from?
Aug 6, 2015 8:45 PM - PeterkSharma: its whats i correct the print on the lcd amount
Aug 6, 2015 8:46 PM - PeterkSharma: the problem is that I can adjust the 1.3 mm on the first layer, but the second layer just goes back down to whatever the print was set at
Aug 6, 2015 8:46 PM - PeterkSharma: then will tear up the first layer
Aug 6, 2015 8:46 PM - bamhm182: I use Simplify 3D and in there there is a starting gcode option. Is there anything like that on Cura?
Aug 6, 2015 8:47 PM - bamhm182: Actually, there is a "first layer height" option, I feel like that would be a better bet
Aug 6, 2015 8:47 PM - PeterkSharma: how do you like simplify 3d?
Aug 6, 2015 8:48 PM - PeterkSharma: i just have inial layer thicknes
Aug 6, 2015 8:48 PM - bamhm182: Does it go in percentage or mm?
    Aug 6, 2015 8:48 PM - bamhm182: I love Simplify 3D.
    Aug 6, 2015 8:49 PM - PeterkSharma: ill give it a try
Aug 6, 2015 8:49 PM - bamhm182: I got it because the software that came with the Robo 3D was, in my opinion and the opinion of many others, garbage. Was looking around for a while on slicers and kept coming back to Simplify 3D
Aug 6, 2015 8:50 PM - PeterkSharma: yeah i'm not too happy with cura

Aug 6, 2015 8:50 PM - PeterkSharma: i havent personally had good luck with it
Aug 6, 2015 8:51 PM - bamhm182: They don't have a trial, and their price point is pretty steep, but everything I had read about it was positive and I was tired of the support material screwing up my prints. I also knew that this wasn't a hobby I was going to be giving up any time soon, so I figured might as well spend the money and have the "best" slicer I could find
Aug 6, 2015 8:52 PM - bamhm182: The main selling point for me was their support material. It's fantastic. It's not uncommon that it sticks to the bed more than it sticks to the print. The TON of other features that it has, VERY fast slicing times, and outstanding customer support are also nice
Aug 6, 2015 8:52 PM - PeterkSharma: wirth the money?
    Aug 6, 2015 8:52 PM - Mike Glass: 100%
Aug 6, 2015 8:56 PM - PeterkSharma: you use it mike?
Aug 6, 2015 8:58 PM - Mike Glass: yes sir
Aug 6, 2015 8:59 PM - Mike Glass: only thing I dont use is spiral, I use repetier for vases, for some reason I cant get the same results with S3d.

Aug 6, 2015 9:00 PM - Mike Glass: There are a few annoyances, like easily moving objects on the bed with a mouse, have to use numbers to move.
    Aug 6, 2015 9:06 PM - bamhm182: I also agree that it is 100% worth the money
Aug 6, 2015 9:07 PM - bamhm182: I mean, if you think about it the way I did, I plan on doing this for a long time, if spending $140 now will make everything easier and better the whole time, it is 100% worth it
    Aug 6, 2015 9:07 PM - PeterkSharma: yeah
Aug 6, 2015 9:07 PM - Mike Glass: worth not having failures
    Aug 6, 2015 9:07 PM - PeterkSharma: saves a lot of plastic
    Aug 6, 2015 9:07 PM - bamhm182: True
Aug 6, 2015 9:08 PM - Mike Glass: uses alot for support, but you have a nicer looking piece.
Aug 6, 2015 9:09 PM - PeterkSharma: im going to give it a try
Aug 6, 2015 9:13 PM - PeterkSharma: i keep hearing a cat in my house
    Aug 6, 2015 9:13 PM - PeterkSharma: ...i have no cat...
Aug 6, 2015 9:17 PM - PeterkSharma: what baud rate did you use?
Aug 6, 2015 9:18 PM - Mike Glass: the highest setting
    Aug 6, 2015 9:22 PM - bamhm182: Printing out a mount for this new webcam I got
    Aug 6, 2015 9:22 PM - bamhm182: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:890584
Aug 6, 2015 9:23 PM - bamhm182: Started with the STL for that guy and made it so that I could attach a mount I made onto it and slide/rotate it a little
Aug 6, 2015 9:24 PM - PeterkSharma: need some more time to sit swith it and mess with it
Aug 6, 2015 9:25 PM - Mike Glass: what camera did you get
    Aug 6, 2015 9:27 PM - bamhm182: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NBL2KK8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage
Aug 6, 2015 9:28 PM - PeterkSharma: what programs do ya'll use for modeling?
    Aug 6, 2015 9:30 PM - bamhm182: I only use blender
Aug 6, 2015 9:31 PM - bamhm182: Don't know my way around the rest and the only problems I've had with blender are due to lack of knowledge on my part
    Aug 6, 2015 9:31 PM - bamhm182: Pretty much a "ain't broke, don't fix it" as I'm sure there's better software
    Aug 6, 2015 9:33 PM - PeterkSharma: whats blender?
    Aug 6, 2015 9:33 PM - bamhm182: it's a free program that can be used for 3d modeling
Aug 6, 2015 9:34 PM - bamhm182: It's main forte is animation, but it works for creating 3d models and has the ability to export them into stl files
    Aug 6, 2015 9:35 PM - PeterkSharma: ah gotcha
Aug 6, 2015 9:35 PM - PeterkSharma: have you tried google sketchup?
    Aug 6, 2015 9:36 PM - bamhm182: No
Aug 6, 2015 9:36 PM - bamhm182: Pretty much the only one I've tried was Blender
    Aug 6, 2015 9:37 PM - PeterkSharma: gotcha
Aug 6, 2015 9:39 PM - bamhm182: Man, the screen on this raspberry pi wants to work so badly, but it just won't do it
    Aug 6, 2015 9:40 PM - bamhm182: [IMG]
Aug 6, 2015 9:40 PM - PeterkSharma: what are you using the pi for?
Aug 6, 2015 9:40 PM - bamhm182: I'm pretty sure it's not broken, it's just that I can't get the software to send the signals right
    Aug 6, 2015 9:41 PM - bamhm182: Trying to make a gameboy type deal
    Aug 6, 2015 9:41 PM - bamhm182: http://i.imgur.com/iDwYec9.png
Aug 6, 2015 9:41 PM - bamhm182: Whoops, oh well, that'll still bring you to the picture
Aug 6, 2015 9:41 PM - bamhm182: Going to have a 5" screen on it, dpad, 4 buttons, start, select, 2 PSP analog sticks, and 4 triggers
Aug 6, 2015 9:42 PM - bamhm182: Trying to get some sort of progress made by Tuesday, when I leave for 2 weeks
    Aug 6, 2015 9:43 PM - PeterkSharma: ah
Aug 6, 2015 9:43 PM - PeterkSharma: that looks like it could be a bad cable
Aug 6, 2015 9:44 PM - bamhm182: That's what I thought too, so I desoldered the ribbon cable and I soldered in some headers and used jumpers and it was doing the EXACT same thing
Aug 6, 2015 9:44 PM - PeterkSharma: any buldging caps?
Aug 6, 2015 9:44 PM - bamhm182: Also, at the very beginning of turning on the Pi, there is this colored image that pops up for a second. It displays perfectly, which makes me further believe that it is some sort of firmware issue
    Aug 6, 2015 9:45 PM - PeterkSharma: yeah
Aug 6, 2015 9:45 PM - PeterkSharma: if you get a clean picture for any part its a software deal
    Aug 6, 2015 9:45 PM - bamhm182: Yeah
Aug 6, 2015 9:46 PM - Mike Glass: I use Solidworks and Blender
Aug 6, 2015 9:47 PM - bamhm182: Huh... I just read something that says that it may be under volted if the rainbow square appears
Aug 6, 2015 9:48 PM - bamhm182: I broke it now by trying to screw around with the firmware, but I'm going to get it back to pictured up there and plug it into a better power supply
Aug 6, 2015 10:00 PM - bamhm182: Finally figured out how to get my roommate's monitor to turn off when he's not using it. It was on 24/7 except for when I'd go and click it off. Bugged the hell out of me
Aug 6, 2015 10:04 PM - bamhm182: So I had a few rebates that I sent out for a while back and never heard back from them, then I just found a reloadable visa with my name on it. I'm going to be so happy if I just found $50
    Aug 6, 2015 10:11 PM - bamhm182: Nope, $0, dang
Aug 6, 2015 10:11 PM - Mike Glass: oh poo[
Aug 6, 2015 11:08 PM - Mike Kelly: well that was some of the worst traffic coming home from red rocks
    Aug 6, 2015 11:26 PM - bamhm182: How long did it take?
Aug 7, 2015 4:19 AM - Bill Monroe: good morning
    Aug 7, 2015 4:36 AM - daniel871: Morning.
Aug 7, 2015 4:36 AM - daniel871: People at work are upset that the debate last night was behind a cable network subscriber wall, lol.
Aug 7, 2015 4:38 AM - daniel871: I'm like "I thought the whole point of firing your cable company and putting up an HD antenna was to get away from that stuff anyway."
Aug 7, 2015 4:41 AM - Bill Monroe: they must be democrats :)
Aug 7, 2015 5:04 AM - daniel871: It was the Republican debate, so not likely.
Aug 7, 2015 5:04 AM - JeffTheMess: good morning robonauts
Aug 7, 2015 5:05 AM - JeffTheMess: took out my hex last night to clean it out, it was snowing pla
Aug 7, 2015 5:06 AM - JeffTheMess: also noticed the position of the spool matters; the stock spool holder on the side creates more tension for the extruder
    Aug 7, 2015 5:08 AM - bamhm182: snowing?
Aug 7, 2015 5:08 AM - bamhm182: You mean all the chewed up filament?
Aug 7, 2015 5:09 AM - JeffTheMess: there was a lot coming out as if it were "snowing" pla out
    Aug 7, 2015 5:09 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah
Aug 7, 2015 5:09 AM - bamhm182: I cleaned my hobbed bolt a few hours ago and had quite a bit of snow too, haha
Aug 7, 2015 5:10 AM - JeffTheMess: lol, i wish there was a better system than that,seems...ancient kind of..
Aug 7, 2015 5:11 AM - bamhm182: Been using hatchbox for a long time, but they were out of black on Amazon Prime and some people at work were like "Hey, we want all these things by Monday!" and I needed to get two more spools. Ended up having to get a couple of spools of filament I hadn't used before. Tried to print with it a couple times before giving up on it and finding out I actually had enough hatchbox black for everything
Aug 7, 2015 5:11 AM - bamhm182: The new filament I got just instantly gets chewed up
Aug 7, 2015 5:12 AM - bamhm182: A better system than gears pushing the filament through the hot end?
Aug 7, 2015 5:12 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah ever since JB told me about hatchbox thats all I use
    Aug 7, 2015 5:12 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah
Aug 7, 2015 5:12 AM - bamhm182: I love hatchbox. Dirt cheap and I've NEVER had an issue with it
Aug 7, 2015 5:14 AM - bamhm182: The new filament I bought is Augusto. I'm sure that after figuring it out it will work fine, but I tried to get it to work 3 or 4 times and it just got chewed up every single time
Aug 7, 2015 5:15 AM - JeffTheMess: should have bought hatchbox, then painted it lol :)
    Aug 7, 2015 5:17 AM - bamhm182: Yeah, haha, I guess that would work
Aug 7, 2015 5:18 AM - bamhm182: They have transparent black, but I'm making these going away trophy deals for our "Black Knight" squadron and didn't know how the transparent black would look, so I decided not to find out
Aug 7, 2015 5:19 AM - JeffTheMess: thats pretty cool
    Aug 7, 2015 5:19 AM - bamhm182: [IMG]
Aug 7, 2015 5:20 AM - bamhm182: Yeah, I hate printing them though. They use like 2/3 of a spool and take like 24 hours to print
    Aug 7, 2015 5:21 AM - JeffTheMess: wow,
Aug 7, 2015 5:21 AM - JeffTheMess: how often you print that?
    Aug 7, 2015 5:22 AM - bamhm182: Only the second time I printed one
    Aug 7, 2015 5:22 AM - bamhm182: Well, sucessfully
    Aug 7, 2015 5:22 AM - bamhm182: They ALWAYS seem to fail, I don't know why, it's like they're cursed, haha
    Aug 7, 2015 5:22 AM - bamhm182: I printed a smaller version twice
    Aug 7, 2015 5:23 AM - bamhm182: Of just the head
Aug 7, 2015 5:23 AM - JeffTheMess: lol, mold it
Aug 7, 2015 5:24 AM - bamhm182: We have this clip board in our office that people are supposed to sign in on, but everyone was overlooking it for the longest time. We had a broken monitor stand, so one weekend we decided it would be cool to use the broken monitor stand as a body, have a knight's helmet, find a "sword", and use the clip board as a "shield"
Aug 7, 2015 5:24 AM - bamhm182: Second mini one was for a contractor I work with that wanted to mount one on his drone
    Aug 7, 2015 5:25 AM - JeffTheMess: nice
Aug 7, 2015 5:25 AM - bamhm182: Don't you break molds after you use them?
    Aug 7, 2015 5:26 AM - bamhm182: [IMG]
Aug 7, 2015 5:26 AM - bamhm182: It's got a slot for our coin in the back, too
Aug 7, 2015 5:27 AM - JeffTheMess: silicon ones you can use a few times, just have the one helmet perfect so you can make more molds

    Aug 7, 2015 5:27 AM - bamhm182: Yeah, fair enough
Aug 7, 2015 5:28 AM - bamhm182: The only problem with that is that a little bit in, I put an M6 nut in there so it can be screwed onto the base
    Aug 7, 2015 5:28 AM - JeffTheMess: ahh ok
Aug 7, 2015 5:30 AM - bamhm182: Made a webcam mount last night that works pretty well, but I need to reprint it because I didn't think it through enough while designing it
    Aug 7, 2015 5:30 AM - bamhm182: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:890584
Aug 7, 2015 5:31 AM - bamhm182: Started with the STL from that and made it fit a webcam I bought the other day. Also made it so it will turn side to side a little bit and slide back and forth
    Aug 7, 2015 5:35 AM - bamhm182: [IMG]
Aug 7, 2015 5:37 AM - bamhm182: The parts that connects the camera and the part that attaches to the Robo needed to be a little thinner than they are in that picture, but I printed nut holders for the bottom so they could be loosened/tightened with your fingers. Made the slots that allow the camera to slide forwards and backwards pretty thick so you could rotate it a bit. Pretty happy with how it turned out.
Aug 7, 2015 5:47 AM - Mike Glass: Nice bam
    Aug 7, 2015 5:49 AM - bamhm182: ty
Aug 7, 2015 5:52 AM - bamhm182: Got to reprint the middle part mostly. I accidentally made the middle part too wide, so it was longer than the longest bolts I had. The hexagon bit you can see in the picture came with the camera. It's a tube that fits M3, so I ended up having to use that with a longer M3 screw, but I redesigned it to be thinner
Aug 7, 2015 5:53 AM - bamhm182: Also redesigned it so it can go lower. That's the farthest down it can go at the moment, and the top joint is EXTREMELY limited. Once I get a chance to print the new middle bit, it should allow it to move a lot better and use 30mm M3s
Aug 7, 2015 5:54 AM - bamhm182: Will probably upload it to thingiverse once I get it working right
Aug 7, 2015 5:55 AM - Mike Glass: camera's look better on the beds, I need to move mine, but I like mine sometimes as I can position it anywhere.
    Aug 7, 2015 5:56 AM - jbigler1986: Morning
    Aug 7, 2015 5:56 AM - Mike Glass: JB
    Aug 7, 2015 5:57 AM - JeffTheMess: morning JB
Aug 7, 2015 5:57 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah I have my cam mounted on the bed
Aug 7, 2015 5:57 AM - jbigler1986: Mounted on the bed is ok if you have very wide angle or fish eye lense
Aug 7, 2015 5:58 AM - Mike Glass: also true
Aug 7, 2015 6:01 AM - bamhm182: The only issue I'm having with this one is that I can't put it on the front of the printer because the molex connector is in the way
Aug 7, 2015 6:01 AM - bamhm182: So I have to put in on the back of the printer and show everyone my messy work bench, haha
    Aug 7, 2015 6:01 AM - bamhm182: hey JB
    Aug 7, 2015 6:03 AM - jbigler1986: Molex connector? For the camera
Aug 7, 2015 6:07 AM - JeffTheMess: you can make "U" shape to hold the cam on the bed and avoid your molex connector
Aug 7, 2015 6:10 AM - bamhm182: Nah, Molex connector on the heated bed, should have specified
Aug 7, 2015 6:11 AM - bamhm182: Yeah, I guess I could do that. I was also thinking I might be able to just flip the bed around or move the molex connector
Aug 7, 2015 6:23 AM - daniel871: If you're willing to sacrifice Z-print area, you could mount on one side or the other of the carriage and make everyone watching have motion sickness.
    Aug 7, 2015 6:27 AM - JeffTheMess: booo
Aug 7, 2015 6:30 AM - daniel871: If you have the safety enclosure, mount to the inside of it and make sure the camera won't stick inside of the actual print area of the bed as it moves back and forth.
    Aug 7, 2015 6:32 AM - JeffTheMess:
    Aug 7, 2015 6:33 AM - daniel871: http://www.technology.org/2015/08/07/transform-3d-printer-into-a-laser-cutting-machine/
    Aug 7, 2015 6:33 AM - daniel871: Next Robo hack.
Aug 7, 2015 6:33 AM - daniel871: Print something, then engrave onto it.
Aug 7, 2015 6:35 AM - JeffTheMess: should be too hard
Aug 7, 2015 6:36 AM - daniel871: I like that they call it the L-Cheapo laser while charging $195+shipping for the laser.
Aug 7, 2015 6:39 AM - bamhm182: I've been wanting to copy MG and made a Mostly Printed CNC for a while, my biggest concern is how I would transport it when the Air Force moves me
Aug 7, 2015 6:39 AM - daniel871: Very carefully packaged in a box and UPS?
    Aug 7, 2015 6:40 AM - bamhm182: I guess, if I knew my address beforehand
Aug 7, 2015 6:41 AM - bamhm182: Most of the time, we have other people pack our things and move them, which sounds nice, unless you have nice things with no boxes
Aug 7, 2015 6:42 AM - bamhm182: I was thinking about finding some sort of toolbox that could fit everything in it and a handful of layers of foam that I could cut to fit the parts, then whenever I move, just disassemble it and put it in the toolbox
Aug 7, 2015 6:57 AM - daniel871: How will you transport the Robo?
    Aug 7, 2015 7:02 AM - bamhm182: I've still got the box
    Aug 7, 2015 7:02 AM - bamhm182: I keep the boxes for everything I buy
Aug 7, 2015 7:03 AM - daniel871: Design and print some inserts that will hold the disassembled MPCNC in a shipping tube.
Aug 7, 2015 7:04 AM - daniel871: Get something like a 6" diameter tube by a couple inches longer than your longest rods for the MPCNC, then make three or four inserts that the rods go through and which will hold the various printed parts in little clip-insert places.
Aug 7, 2015 7:04 AM - daniel871: Assuming you have the time to do all that design work.
Aug 7, 2015 7:19 AM - bamhm182: I should. That seems like it would take a week or two at most if that's all you were working on. I've got until October before the earliest I can be shipped out of here
Aug 7, 2015 7:25 AM - daniel871: Seems like a cool side-project then. Figure it out and then post it on Thingiverse with instructions for Internet Points.
Aug 7, 2015 7:28 AM - daniel871: Oh look, it's Tilda Swinton dressed up as David Bowie and David Bowie dressed up as Tilda Swinton. [IMG]
    Aug 7, 2015 7:30 AM - bamhm182: lol
Aug 7, 2015 7:31 AM - bamhm182: Man, now you've got me wanting to switch from Metallica to David Bowie
    Aug 7, 2015 7:32 AM - daniel871: Apparently it's a Thing on the Internet about those two.

    Aug 7, 2015 7:39 AM - bamhm182: Craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap
Aug 7, 2015 7:40 AM - bamhm182: There's those handful of layers that shifted in the middle for WHATEVER reason, now I'm going to have to start over on that piece...
Aug 7, 2015 7:40 AM - bamhm182: Going to let it finish since it's so far done, will let it match with my fucked up helmet that I finished, haha
Aug 7, 2015 7:41 AM - daniel871: Weird that it did that and then went back to normal.
    Aug 7, 2015 7:41 AM - daniel871: Slicer hiccup?
Aug 7, 2015 7:43 AM - bamhm182: I know, I don't know how it did that, and I seriously doubt it was a slicer hiccup since I'm using the exact same gcode as the last one that printed out just fine
Aug 7, 2015 7:45 AM - daniel871: Only time I've seen something like that was when the object being printed came loose from the bed and slid around while successive layers kept on printing on top.
    Aug 7, 2015 7:46 AM - daniel871: On my Robo.
Aug 7, 2015 7:46 AM - bamhm182: Not loose from the bed, just checked
    Aug 7, 2015 7:47 AM - bamhm182: I feel like it was because I bumped it up to 175% from 150% a while back
Aug 7, 2015 7:47 AM - bamhm182: It was fine printing at 150%, should have left it at that
Aug 7, 2015 7:48 AM - daniel871: Yeah, I don't screw with the speeds mid-print, every time I do that the print ends up failing.
Aug 7, 2015 7:48 AM - bamhm182: It's usually fine, but I think it got me this time
Aug 7, 2015 7:48 AM - bamhm182: I'm just hoping that I have enough to print a complete going away thing now
Aug 7, 2015 7:50 AM - daniel871: At least you're printing. I'm in limbo waiting on the replacement bed to come in.
Aug 7, 2015 7:51 AM - daniel871: I think I've replaced just about every mechanical part that can mess up at this point. All of the LM8UU bearings, steppers, hotend assemblies, the actual X-carriage.
Aug 7, 2015 7:52 AM - daniel871: I should have bought that HIC printer jb pointed out the other day and built an insulated box to put over it while printing.
Aug 7, 2015 7:53 AM - bamhm182: There's still the stepper drivers, those had me messed up for well over a month
    Aug 7, 2015 7:53 AM - daniel871: Oh, I've replaced those as well.
Aug 7, 2015 7:54 AM - daniel871: Only thing not replaced is the main RAMPS board itself.
    Aug 7, 2015 7:54 AM - daniel871: And the power supply.
Aug 7, 2015 7:55 AM - daniel871: Not really counting the framework because none of that actually moves.
Aug 7, 2015 7:55 AM - daniel871: Got some clamps from Home Depot to hold the safety enclosure open when I'm working inside the Robo.
Aug 7, 2015 7:56 AM - daniel871: Big spring-loaded metal clamps for $1 each that have rubber covers on the tips of the jaws and handles so that nothing is marred by them.
Aug 7, 2015 7:57 AM - daniel871: Need to adjust the one stepper driver for the 2nd extruder, motor runs a little hot.
    Aug 7, 2015 7:58 AM - Mike Kelly: morning
Aug 7, 2015 7:59 AM - bamhm182: Had to replace the whole electronics this weekend. Blew both the Megas I had, but had a Sainsmart All in One, put that in, it's pretty awesome
    Aug 7, 2015 7:59 AM - bamhm182: Yo MK
Aug 7, 2015 7:59 AM - Mike Kelly: how is everyone this friday
    Aug 7, 2015 7:59 AM - bamhm182: Not too bad
Aug 7, 2015 8:00 AM - bamhm182: Since it's 11 AM, and I've got an electrician coming between 1 PM and 5 PM, debating not going to sleep
    Aug 7, 2015 8:00 AM - bamhm182: Yourself?
    Aug 7, 2015 8:04 AM - Mike Kelly: oh it's friday
    Aug 7, 2015 8:04 AM - Mike Kelly: tired
Aug 7, 2015 8:11 AM - bamhm182: For some people, gotta work this weekend
Aug 7, 2015 8:14 AM - Mike Kelly: doesn't make it not friday
    Aug 7, 2015 8:14 AM - Mike Kelly: :)
Aug 7, 2015 8:17 AM - daniel871: I'm going to be glad to get the replacement bed in whenever it finally shows up.
    Aug 7, 2015 8:18 AM - Mike Kelly: i bet
    Aug 7, 2015 8:19 AM - bamhm182: True
Aug 7, 2015 8:21 AM - daniel871: Taping the fn cork down with that spare HVAC tape I have and then covering the top with regular masking tape to protect the glass.
Aug 7, 2015 8:22 AM - daniel871: After gluing the fn magnets on.

Aug 7, 2015 8:22 AM - daniel871: And wiring things up to make sure that it actually works.
Aug 7, 2015 8:34 AM - Mike Kelly: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007Y7CXMK/ref=biss_dp_t_asn daniel i'm gonna grab one of these
    Aug 7, 2015 8:39 AM - daniel871: For PEI?
    Aug 7, 2015 8:41 AM - daniel871: For use with PEI, rather.
Aug 7, 2015 8:46 AM - Mike Kelly: no for the cork
    Aug 7, 2015 8:49 AM - daniel871: That is double-sided. :p
Aug 7, 2015 8:49 AM - daniel871: Unless you plan to peel the cork off and re-apply it.
Aug 7, 2015 8:49 AM - Mike Kelly: well my R1.7 has no issues, this is for a different bed
Aug 7, 2015 8:50 AM - Mike Kelly: but if my r1.7 cork ever came loose i'd use that to reattach
    Aug 7, 2015 8:50 AM - daniel871: Paint over it with high-temp resin. :p
    Aug 7, 2015 8:51 AM - Mike Kelly: like?
    Aug 7, 2015 8:52 AM - daniel871: elastomeric resin?
Aug 7, 2015 8:53 AM - daniel871: Same stuff put on metal roofing sometimes to insulate/deflect heat and protect the metal.
Aug 7, 2015 8:53 AM - daniel871: Kind of expensive per gallon though.
Aug 7, 2015 8:53 AM - daniel871: (would probably be pretty cheap for a 3d printer seller to buy and apply to multiple printers)
Aug 7, 2015 8:54 AM - daniel871: Tell toy about it so he puts it on his metal robo.
Aug 7, 2015 8:55 AM - Mike Kelly: if you got a name of it...
Aug 7, 2015 8:55 AM - daniel871: Literally hundreds of brands out there.
Aug 7, 2015 8:55 AM - daniel871: Kool Seal is one, Henry is another (though that one is proud as hell of it).
    Aug 7, 2015 8:56 AM - daniel871: Lucas #1015.
    Aug 7, 2015 8:56 AM - Mike Kelly: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Henry-209-0-90-Gal-Elastomastic-Sealant-HE209142/100002730 like this?
    Aug 7, 2015 8:57 AM - daniel871: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=057CZPH3MK433Z7SM8P3
    Aug 7, 2015 8:57 AM - daniel871: Similar stuff, yeah.
Aug 7, 2015 8:57 AM - Mike Kelly: i bet that's what the guy that sells the heated beds for replicator 2's use
Aug 7, 2015 8:58 AM - daniel871: Shoot, paint both sides of the bed with it. Probably makes for one hell of a bed surface to print on if you can apply it smoothly enough.
Aug 7, 2015 8:59 AM - Mike Kelly: seems like a big if
Aug 7, 2015 9:00 AM - daniel871: Looks like you spread it on with a spatula rather than a brush.
Aug 7, 2015 9:00 AM - Mike Kelly: i wonder if plastidip can handle the temps
Aug 7, 2015 9:00 AM - daniel871: That FlexSeal stuff they advertise in infomercials for sealing boats.
    Aug 7, 2015 9:02 AM - daniel871: Plastidip is only rated to 200F.
    Aug 7, 2015 9:03 AM - Mike Kelly: gotcha
    Aug 7, 2015 9:05 AM - daniel871: About 93C.
Aug 7, 2015 9:05 AM - daniel871: If you never print ABS and do cold autoleveling it might work.
    Aug 7, 2015 9:05 AM - daniel871: :p
Aug 7, 2015 9:06 AM - daniel871: Off to play World of Warships during my lunch break. :p
    Aug 7, 2015 9:23 AM - jbigler1986: party time?
    Aug 7, 2015 9:24 AM - Mike Kelly: excellent

    Aug 7, 2015 9:36 AM - Mike Kelly: only the 3rd or 4th time i've made this...
Aug 7, 2015 9:36 AM - jbigler1986: give it time. it will be rev 40
Aug 7, 2015 9:37 AM - Mike Kelly: i'll be happy if we can build unit 6 and 7
Aug 7, 2015 9:38 AM - Mike Kelly: right now they're in limbo until we get more investment
    Aug 7, 2015 9:38 AM - jbigler1986: there is always prostitution
Aug 7, 2015 9:38 AM - Mike Kelly: that's a funny way to spell job hunting
Aug 7, 2015 9:39 AM - jbigler1986: well isn't that what prostitution is? always hunting for the next "job"
    Aug 7, 2015 9:41 AM - jbigler1986: alright i'm grossing myself out
    Aug 7, 2015 9:42 AM - Mike Kelly: haha
Aug 7, 2015 9:43 AM - jbigler1986: i need something to do tonight. no kids this weekend. hmmm
Aug 7, 2015 9:43 AM - Mike Kelly: did you buy that i3?
Aug 7, 2015 9:44 AM - jbigler1986: no. mk said they were not shipping them

Aug 7, 2015 9:47 AM - jbigler1986: i'm not picky on brands or anything either
Aug 7, 2015 9:47 AM - bamhm182: I made it so I can rotate it a little bit and slide it a lot forward and backwards too
    Aug 7, 2015 9:47 AM - bamhm182: [IMG]
    Aug 7, 2015 9:47 AM - jbigler1986: pretty nice bam
Aug 7, 2015 9:48 AM - bamhm182: What do you guys think about this? I am trying to make something for my brother (last name Wilson, Aug 20 birthday, Leo) for his 21st birthday
    Aug 7, 2015 9:48 AM - jbigler1986: i like it
    Aug 7, 2015 9:51 AM - bamhm182: [IMG]
Aug 7, 2015 9:51 AM - bamhm182: That's as far as it can rotate, but it's enough to get from side to side of the printer
Aug 7, 2015 9:54 AM - Mike Kelly: when are you adding servo controls
Aug 7, 2015 9:54 AM - bamhm182: As soon as I'm not afraid of touching my printer again, haha
    Aug 7, 2015 9:54 AM - Mike Kelly: heh
Aug 7, 2015 9:54 AM - jbigler1986: which should be now. don't ever be afraid of it. it's nothing you can't fix

Aug 7, 2015 10:10 AM - jbigler1986: He said he would give me a huge discount. So wanting to see what that exactly means

Aug 7, 2015 10:31 AM - Mike Kelly: are those supposed to be shot glasses?
Aug 7, 2015 10:31 AM - Mike Kelly: supposed to be a nice weekend here, high low 80's chance of rain saturday
Aug 7, 2015 10:31 AM - bamhm182: Yeah, I bought some shot glasses on Amazon and modeled them, going to cut them out of the final mold and replace them with the actual glass shotglasses
    Aug 7, 2015 10:32 AM - Mike Kelly: nice
    Aug 7, 2015 10:32 AM - daniel871: [IMG]

    Aug 7, 2015 10:33 AM - donhuevo: [IMG]
Aug 7, 2015 10:33 AM - bamhm182: This last Halloween, I wasn't feeling very into it, then a guy I work with suggested I should be Wilson. Went home and put on a white t-shirt, spray painted my hand rad and slapped it on my chest, then flipped some sweatpants inside out, close enough
    Aug 7, 2015 10:34 AM - daniel871: [IMG]
    Aug 7, 2015 10:34 AM - daniel871: Probably meant that Wilson.
    Aug 7, 2015 10:34 AM - donhuevo: [IMG]
Aug 7, 2015 10:36 AM - bamhm182: Went to Vegas for a month, had to work on some laptops, put my ID card in a few of them and noticed it cut my picture off at the Wilson level. I lost it
    Aug 7, 2015 10:37 AM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Aug 7, 2015 10:37 AM - Mike Kelly: that show took a weird turn
    Aug 7, 2015 10:37 AM - bamhm182: Yeah it did
    Aug 7, 2015 10:37 AM - daniel871: What show?
Aug 7, 2015 10:38 AM - bamhm182: I thought it was great for the first few episodes, then it got all "I REALLY WANT TO FUCK THIS GIRL THAT ISN'T MY PRETEND WIFE!"
    Aug 7, 2015 10:38 AM - jbigler1986: it was pretty funny though
Aug 7, 2015 10:38 AM - donhuevo: last man on earth
    Aug 7, 2015 10:38 AM - bamhm182: The Last Man On Earth
Aug 7, 2015 10:38 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah it was funny but we lost interest when they brought on the madmen wife
Aug 7, 2015 10:38 AM - donhuevo: show of hands for Mr. Robot?
    Aug 7, 2015 10:39 AM - bamhm182: That the "hot chick"?
    Aug 7, 2015 10:39 AM - Mike Kelly: yes
Aug 7, 2015 10:39 AM - jbigler1986: yeah. they brought in to many people
Aug 7, 2015 10:39 AM - Mike Kelly: "The last man on earth, except he's totally not at all"
    Aug 7, 2015 10:39 AM - jbigler1986: ^
Aug 7, 2015 10:39 AM - daniel871: There was a show called "The Last Man on Earth"?
Aug 7, 2015 10:39 AM - bamhm182: Yeah, I thought they could bring it back, then the Ron Jeremy type guy came in and I completely lost interest
Aug 7, 2015 10:39 AM - bamhm182: I watched all of the first season, but it's not a show I'll keep up with
Aug 7, 2015 10:40 AM - jbigler1986: i could see them bringing in more people on later seasons. they did it way to soon though
    Aug 7, 2015 10:41 AM - jbigler1986: Tandy lol
Aug 7, 2015 10:41 AM - jbigler1986: you guys ever watch Impractical Jokers?
    Aug 7, 2015 10:42 AM - bamhm182: Yeah, that show is great
    Aug 7, 2015 10:45 AM - daniel871: Nope.
    Aug 7, 2015 10:45 AM - daniel871: Is it on Cable?
    Aug 7, 2015 10:45 AM - jbigler1986: yeah. I don't have cable though
    Aug 7, 2015 10:45 AM - jbigler1986: Primewire ftw

    Aug 7, 2015 10:46 AM - jbigler1986: Mr. Robot?
    Aug 7, 2015 10:46 AM - bamhm182: I'd say that's a no
    Aug 7, 2015 10:46 AM - bamhm182: I hadn't heard of it
Aug 7, 2015 10:46 AM - donhuevo: it's your new favorite show, you just don't know it yet
Aug 7, 2015 10:46 AM - donhuevo: its on USA
    Aug 7, 2015 10:47 AM - jbigler1986: sounds good. I will check it out
    Aug 7, 2015 10:47 AM - bamhm182: Haha
Aug 7, 2015 10:47 AM - daniel871: Suits is pretty much the only USA show I've liked recently.
    Aug 7, 2015 10:47 AM - donhuevo: it's on immediately after Suits
Aug 7, 2015 10:47 AM - daniel871: Mostly because of the way people constantly give each other shit on it.
    Aug 7, 2015 10:48 AM - donhuevo: and Donna
    Aug 7, 2015 10:48 AM - donhuevo: mostly Donna
    Aug 7, 2015 10:48 AM - daniel871: I watch it via Netflix/Hulu.
    Aug 7, 2015 10:48 AM - daniel871: Also the fat lunatic.
Aug 7, 2015 10:49 AM - daniel871: Can't be bothered to remember his name because I haven't watched the show in a few weeks.
    Aug 7, 2015 10:49 AM - daniel871: Lewis something.
Aug 7, 2015 10:50 AM - bamhm182: Man, I've got an electrician coming sometime today
    Aug 7, 2015 10:50 AM - Mike Kelly: what's he fixin
Aug 7, 2015 10:50 AM - bamhm182: I wish he would hurry up and come because I've been awake for almost 24 hours now and I'm fading fast
Aug 7, 2015 10:51 AM - bamhm182: There's a good 10 or so outlets in this new house that don't work at all
    Aug 7, 2015 10:51 AM - donhuevo: http://www.whoismrrobot.com/
    Aug 7, 2015 10:52 AM - daniel871:

Aug 7, 2015 10:54 AM - Mike Kelly: but new tv shows
    Aug 7, 2015 10:54 AM - bamhm182: Possibly, not sure, they're scattered though, so I'm thinking not
    Aug 7, 2015 10:54 AM - daniel871: It's on Hulu.
    Aug 7, 2015 10:55 AM - bamhm182: I know a guy with an eye patch
Aug 7, 2015 10:55 AM - jbigler1986: just google whatever show and add primewire at the end
Aug 7, 2015 10:55 AM - daniel871: Not all that impressed with the premise though.

Aug 7, 2015 10:55 AM - bamhm182: He sells me legitimately purchased goods.
Aug 7, 2015 10:55 AM - daniel871: USA recently changed things to where you had to have a cable provider login to watch some of their shows.
    Aug 7, 2015 10:55 AM - donhuevo: fucktards
Aug 7, 2015 10:56 AM - jbigler1986: primewire or the secret eye patch man
Aug 7, 2015 10:57 AM - Bill Monroe: is that more than just a cable account? I see USA fine - didnt do anything special
Aug 7, 2015 10:58 AM - daniel871: Can you watch the most recent episode of, say Suits?
Aug 7, 2015 10:58 AM - daniel871: A couple weeks back I couldn't get any shows to stream directly because they wanted a provider login first.
Aug 7, 2015 10:59 AM - daniel871: So it was back to the delay for Netflix/Hulu for the not over-the-air shows I want to watch.
Aug 7, 2015 10:59 AM - Bill Monroe: i dunno.. i dont watch that show.. is it on now?
Aug 7, 2015 10:59 AM - bamhm182: I have to get around to printing a mount for my Nvidia 3D Vision dongle that can attach to the top of my monitor so it's not sitting on my desk
Aug 7, 2015 11:00 AM - Bill Monroe: Law and Order is on now
Aug 7, 2015 11:04 AM - daniel871: Not on the actual TV. On the website.
Aug 7, 2015 11:04 AM - Bill Monroe: ah.. you guys and your bandwidth choking internet tv :)
Aug 7, 2015 11:07 AM - Bill Monroe: I turn on my RCA Victor and am able to watch TV with no trouble.. after the tubes warm up of course

Aug 7, 2015 11:09 AM - Mike Kelly: that guy looks like jimmy fallon
    Aug 7, 2015 11:09 AM - daniel871: It's not.
Aug 7, 2015 11:09 AM - daniel871: That guy was on the show for years.
    Aug 7, 2015 11:09 AM - daniel871: [IMG]
    Aug 7, 2015 11:10 AM - daniel871: Better angle.

    Aug 7, 2015 11:12 AM - daniel871: bed.
    Aug 7, 2015 11:15 AM - Mike Kelly: i don't think i can help that guy
    Aug 7, 2015 11:15 AM - daniel871: Yeah, I'm giving up there.
Aug 7, 2015 11:16 AM - daniel871: "I have version 1.3 and can't find that settings screen. Screw it, I'm putting -1.1 in the G-code and hoping for the best!"
    Aug 7, 2015 11:16 AM - daniel871: Bwahahaha.
    Aug 7, 2015 11:16 AM - daniel871: [IMG]
    Aug 7, 2015 11:16 AM - daniel871: I'd watch that show.
Aug 7, 2015 11:17 AM - Mike Kelly: aww sheep
Aug 7, 2015 11:19 AM - daniel871: Nothing but reaction shots of horrified people.

    Aug 7, 2015 11:41 AM - Mike Kelly: bushing Y axis don?
    Aug 7, 2015 11:41 AM - donhuevo: that's the plan
    Aug 7, 2015 11:42 AM - Mike Kelly: cool
    Aug 7, 2015 11:42 AM - donhuevo: I'm hopin'
Aug 7, 2015 11:43 AM - Mike Kelly: are you going for 4020?
Aug 7, 2015 11:44 AM - donhuevo: already have some so yes
    Aug 7, 2015 11:44 AM - bamhm182: I'm beginning to think the electrician is a myth...
Aug 7, 2015 11:45 AM - Mike Kelly: don i often wonder why you don't just start from scratch :)
Aug 7, 2015 11:46 AM - donhuevo: these outlets aren't switched by chance are they? like for floor lamps?
Aug 7, 2015 11:47 AM - donhuevo: yep. at this point, I am thinking about an aluminum base plate to my specs
Aug 7, 2015 11:49 AM - donhuevo: and I am starting from scratch on another printer. I want to use the robo as a guinea pig for the bushings first
Aug 7, 2015 11:50 AM - Mike Glass: use it as a pig and make it squeal!
Aug 7, 2015 11:51 AM - donhuevo: squealing would be a bad sign but otherwise...
Aug 7, 2015 11:51 AM - Mike Glass: lots of lube then don.
    Aug 7, 2015 11:53 AM - jbigler1986: Squealing, pig, lube? ummmmm
Aug 7, 2015 11:53 AM - donhuevo: I smell a new dg product on the horizon...
Aug 7, 2015 11:58 AM - jbigler1986: is that what you are working on?
Aug 7, 2015 11:58 AM - donhuevo: I'm not actually. but squealin' pig lube has a nice ring to it
    Aug 7, 2015 12:00 PM - Mike Glass: haha
    Aug 7, 2015 12:06 PM - Mike Glass: [IMG]
    Aug 7, 2015 12:11 PM - donhuevo: nice!
Aug 7, 2015 12:11 PM - donhuevo: and good to know you keep super lube nearby
Aug 7, 2015 12:13 PM - Mike Glass: free sample with every order of a wireless radio.:)
Aug 7, 2015 12:14 PM - donhuevo: how often do you lube your "wireless radio"
Aug 7, 2015 12:14 PM - donhuevo: jake from state farm
Aug 7, 2015 12:14 PM - Mike Glass: haha, its to lube the o-rings on the lightning arrestor box..lol
Aug 7, 2015 12:15 PM - Mike Glass: Not an AP radio, a WAN radio.
Aug 7, 2015 12:22 PM - Mike Glass: what does 4020 look like the only thing i find is not square?

    Aug 7, 2015 12:41 PM - jbigler1986: i like it
    Aug 7, 2015 12:46 PM - jbigler1986:
    Aug 7, 2015 12:46 PM - jbigler1986: etch a sketch 3d printer?
Aug 7, 2015 12:46 PM - Mike Glass: amazon damn that stuff is cheap.
Aug 7, 2015 12:47 PM - Mike Glass: not amazon..
    Aug 7, 2015 12:49 PM - Mike Kelly: need a shorter tube
Aug 7, 2015 12:51 PM - Mike Glass: way shorter whole video is waiting for the effin tube
Aug 7, 2015 12:55 PM - Mike Kelly: haha seriously
Aug 7, 2015 12:55 PM - Mike Kelly: i like how it takes 3 people to poop paste
Aug 7, 2015 12:55 PM - Mike Kelly: save yourself some time and get a frosting bag
Aug 7, 2015 12:56 PM - Mike Glass: or at least a colostomy bag
    Aug 7, 2015 12:56 PM - jbigler1986: it's a good idea. needs some fixes though
    Aug 7, 2015 1:00 PM - Mike Glass: damn
    Aug 7, 2015 1:02 PM - Mike Kelly: nice
Aug 7, 2015 1:18 PM - Mike Glass: ok I leave you with this.

Aug 7, 2015 1:21 PM - Mike Kelly: i definitely need that square tube one
Aug 7, 2015 1:25 PM - toy: i put some left over 8020 on my surface plate... and wow that stuff is not straight
Aug 7, 2015 1:35 PM - Mike Kelly: that gear grinding one is super boring
    Aug 7, 2015 1:37 PM - jbigler1986: so messy

    Aug 7, 2015 1:39 PM - jbigler1986: damn
Aug 7, 2015 1:47 PM - Mike Kelly: i think i need to start a company and buy cnc's to make people things
    Aug 7, 2015 1:53 PM - jbigler1986: i would be good with just 1
Aug 7, 2015 1:55 PM - quazi78: Any of you guys still using the hexagon successfully?
    Aug 7, 2015 1:56 PM - jbigler1986: Mike Glass does
Aug 7, 2015 1:56 PM - quazi78: Mine clogs like clockwork. 3 hours of printing and it's done.
    Aug 7, 2015 1:56 PM - jbigler1986: what is your issue
    Aug 7, 2015 1:56 PM - jbigler1986: have you seasoned it?
    Aug 7, 2015 1:56 PM - quazi78: I have
    Aug 7, 2015 1:56 PM - jbigler1986: ran a drill through the heatsink/heat break to make sure it's clear
Aug 7, 2015 1:56 PM - Mike Kelly: is the fan running
Aug 7, 2015 1:57 PM - quazi78: The clog always seems to be in the nozzle
    Aug 7, 2015 1:57 PM - quazi78: the heatsink is clear
    Aug 7, 2015 1:57 PM - quazi78: yes to the fan
    Aug 7, 2015 1:57 PM - jbigler1986: new nozzle?
    Aug 7, 2015 1:57 PM - quazi78: I've only had the printer 2 weeks
Aug 7, 2015 1:57 PM - quazi78: So it's the one that came with it
Aug 7, 2015 1:58 PM - Mike Kelly: dust can happen at any time
Aug 7, 2015 1:59 PM - quazi78: Does ABS vs PLA make a difference on clogging? Is PLA just more prone to it?
Aug 7, 2015 1:59 PM - jbigler1986: what does the end of the filament look like when you pull it out?
Aug 7, 2015 1:59 PM - Mike Kelly: but to answer your original question the hexagon has been working great for me
    Aug 7, 2015 2:00 PM - jbigler1986: oh yeah. forgot about the r1.7
Aug 7, 2015 2:00 PM - quazi78: The end will be slightly narrower with a small "tip"
Aug 7, 2015 2:00 PM - Mike Kelly: ABS is easeir to extrude PLA is more prone to clogging
Aug 7, 2015 2:01 PM - quazi78: Any tips for a cold pull to try and get this out without a full breakdown?
Aug 7, 2015 2:01 PM - quazi78: I tried 80 degrees but that doesn't seem to fuse with the clog
Aug 7, 2015 2:02 PM - jbigler1986: heat it to 240 then turn it down to like 110
Aug 7, 2015 2:02 PM - Mike Kelly: i've never had good luck with a cold pull
Aug 7, 2015 2:02 PM - Mike Kelly: grab some cleaning filament
Aug 7, 2015 2:02 PM - jbigler1986: slowly increase the temp until you are able to pull the filament out
Aug 7, 2015 2:02 PM - Mike Kelly: and something to clean out the nozzle
Aug 7, 2015 2:02 PM - Mike Kelly: like a bristle from a brass bristle brush, or a high E guitar string
Aug 7, 2015 2:03 PM - Mike Kelly: or one of those .4mm drills
Aug 7, 2015 2:03 PM - jbigler1986: normally it's not the nozzle itself. it usually happens in the heatbreak
    Aug 7, 2015 2:03 PM - jbigler1986: atleast for me anyways
    Aug 7, 2015 2:03 PM - Mike Kelly: that's if there's heat creep
Aug 7, 2015 2:04 PM - quazi78: I can push a new piece pretty far into the hot end right now which is why I didn't think it was in the break
Aug 7, 2015 2:04 PM - jbigler1986: take a drill to it. clean it out. then clean the nozzle
Aug 7, 2015 2:05 PM - daniel871: What kind of filament was in it?
Aug 7, 2015 2:05 PM - Mike Kelly: are you able to manually extrude filament?
    Aug 7, 2015 2:05 PM - quazi78: Solutech PLA
    Aug 7, 2015 2:05 PM - quazi78: No manually extruding doesn't work either
Aug 7, 2015 2:05 PM - quazi78: Can't push it through by hand, software control just eats a notch into the filament
Aug 7, 2015 2:05 PM - Mike Kelly: drop the nozzle out
Aug 7, 2015 2:06 PM - Mike Kelly: you probably have a piece of filament jammed in there
Aug 7, 2015 2:06 PM - quazi78: Is it ok to take the nozzle out without taking the hot end out completely?
Aug 7, 2015 2:06 PM - daniel871: Yeah, do it all the time.
Aug 7, 2015 2:06 PM - Mike Kelly: it's better to drop the hot end
Aug 7, 2015 2:10 PM - jbigler1986: yeah the hex is easier when you drop it
Aug 7, 2015 2:10 PM - Mike Kelly: especially if it's a piece of filament sticking out
Aug 7, 2015 2:15 PM - jbigler1986: the hex is just a pain in the ass for maintenance in general
    Aug 7, 2015 2:17 PM - quazi78: Next payday I'm pretty sure I'm going to order an E3D
Aug 7, 2015 2:18 PM - quazi78: I really don't like the way the thermister sits in the hex
Aug 7, 2015 2:18 PM - Mike Kelly: i taped mine in with kapton
Aug 7, 2015 2:19 PM - jbigler1986: yep. it sucks. that's where most have issues.
    Aug 7, 2015 2:22 PM - Mike Kelly: fa
Aug 7, 2015 2:22 PM - quazi78: Apparently it is in the break
    Aug 7, 2015 2:23 PM - quazi78: Can't get anything through it
    Aug 7, 2015 2:23 PM - jbigler1986: drill baby drill
Aug 7, 2015 2:25 PM - Mike Kelly: drop it out
    Aug 7, 2015 2:25 PM - quazi78: Oh it's out
    Aug 7, 2015 2:25 PM - quazi78: I just took it all the way
Aug 7, 2015 2:36 PM - Mike Kelly: and you heated it up to like 260 and tried to push filament through
Aug 7, 2015 2:43 PM - donhuevo: heat creep? now you're just putting words together
Aug 7, 2015 2:43 PM - donhuevo: butt swizzle. see, I can do it too
    Aug 7, 2015 2:43 PM - jbigler1986: lol
Aug 7, 2015 3:11 PM - Mike Kelly: finally checked the circuit board on the Rep2x to see why the fan was always running
Aug 7, 2015 3:12 PM - Mike Kelly: definitely blew the mosfet
Aug 7, 2015 3:12 PM - Mike Kelly: at least it failed open
Aug 7, 2015 3:13 PM - Mike Kelly: had W2K 36 on the working fet
    Aug 7, 2015 3:17 PM - Mike Kelly: 2N7002K probably
    Aug 7, 2015 3:19 PM - Printed Solid: I had a funny rep2x troubleshooting event today.
Aug 7, 2015 3:20 PM - Printed Solid: Engineer that owns it kept trying the same print and it would stop extruding at the same point every time. not really gradual stringing like you'd expect with a clog or plug.
Aug 7, 2015 3:20 PM - Printed Solid: Just like it decided to stop.
Aug 7, 2015 3:20 PM - Printed Solid: Turns out they had the heatsink on backwards so that the fan was just blowing directly on the plate and the fins were away.
    Aug 7, 2015 3:20 PM - Printed Solid: whoops.
Aug 7, 2015 3:21 PM - Mike Kelly: and you say he's an engineer...
Aug 7, 2015 3:22 PM - Printed Solid: he's actually a really good engineer. and I'm pretty critical.
Aug 7, 2015 3:22 PM - Printed Solid: I'm guessing someone else took it apart and he just didn't think to look there.
Aug 7, 2015 3:23 PM - Printed Solid: he thought it was a weird slicer bug.
Aug 7, 2015 3:23 PM - Printed Solid: it was pretty funny.
    Aug 7, 2015 3:24 PM - Mike Kelly: hah
Aug 7, 2015 3:24 PM - Mike Kelly: hmm do i need anything else from mouser
    Aug 7, 2015 3:40 PM - Mike Kelly:
    Aug 7, 2015 3:58 PM - jbigler1986: Anyone here a pc gamer?
Aug 7, 2015 4:02 PM - Blake Benefield: not for quite a while JB
    Aug 7, 2015 4:04 PM - Mike Kelly: i play some\
Aug 7, 2015 4:06 PM - Blake Benefield: toddlers took them away!
    Aug 7, 2015 4:06 PM - jbigler1986: What games?
Aug 7, 2015 4:06 PM - Blake Benefield: so I just play with them now
Aug 7, 2015 4:07 PM - Mike Kelly: mostly random stuff from steam
Aug 7, 2015 4:07 PM - Mike Kelly: i've been enjoying battleblock theater
Aug 7, 2015 4:07 PM - Blake Benefield: Actually was getting on here to ask, what software stuff do I need to start aquiring? I've got AutoCAD 2012 but I've heard mixed reviews on AC for printing
Aug 7, 2015 4:07 PM - jbigler1986: Probably gonna be bored later so just wonder if anyone would be playing and good multiplayer tonight
    Aug 7, 2015 4:08 PM - jbigler1986: Did they ship the hictop?
Aug 7, 2015 4:11 PM - Blake Benefield: NOPE! sent me an email saying they had a stocking issue lol. So I cancelled that one too! It's like it isn't meant to happen. BUT ITS GONNA
Aug 7, 2015 4:12 PM - Printed Solid: autocad is no good for printing.
    Aug 7, 2015 4:12 PM - Blake Benefield: That's what I've heard.
Aug 7, 2015 4:13 PM - Printed Solid: go with one of the 3d focused programs. are you a student or small business owner?
Aug 7, 2015 4:13 PM - Blake Benefield: Small business

Aug 7, 2015 4:14 PM - Printed Solid: autodesk runs a free license program for many of their programs
Aug 7, 2015 4:15 PM - Blake Benefield: What do you use?
    Aug 7, 2015 4:16 PM - Blake Benefield: I have inventer Fusion 2012 and cad 2012
Aug 7, 2015 4:16 PM - Blake Benefield: those are the only Autodesk programs I have lol
Aug 7, 2015 4:17 PM - Printed Solid: i use geomagic, but I have a free license of fusion as a startup. Planning on spending more time with it.
    Aug 7, 2015 4:17 PM - Printed Solid: you don't like fusion?
Aug 7, 2015 4:17 PM - Blake Benefield: never used it. Only stuff I've ever designed was for plasma cutters. just needed dxf
Aug 7, 2015 4:17 PM - Blake Benefield: it just came with Cad
Aug 7, 2015 4:21 PM - Printed Solid: might be worth trying. People seem pretty into onshape now as well.
    Aug 7, 2015 4:21 PM - Blake Benefield: I'll check it out.
Aug 7, 2015 4:24 PM - Blake Benefield: Seems pretty straight forward actually... Just need to learn how to do a few things.
Aug 7, 2015 4:26 PM - Blake Benefield: like... add webbing lol
    Aug 7, 2015 4:34 PM - Printed Solid: yup
Aug 7, 2015 4:35 PM - daniel871: You sound like the perfect case study for OnShape.
Aug 7, 2015 4:35 PM - daniel871: Google it, sign up and try it out.
    Aug 7, 2015 5:42 PM - jbigler1986: Daniel. Pc player?
Aug 7, 2015 6:05 PM - Printed Solid: jb, did you ever get that printrbot from amazon?
Aug 7, 2015 6:18 PM - jbigler1986: I have not. Im waiting on a reply from Braydon. He said he would give me a big discount due to my situation. How much that is remains to be seen.
Aug 7, 2015 6:19 PM - jbigler1986: I keep forgetting to drop off your box. Its all taped up and ready. I have been working until like 8 all week. Its been madness
Aug 7, 2015 6:20 PM - jbigler1986: Its sitting right beside me. I dont have shit to do tomorrow so i will try and remember. I have a horrible memory
Aug 7, 2015 6:27 PM - daniel871: I play World of Warships and Hawken whenever I play PC stuff.
Aug 7, 2015 6:28 PM - daniel871: Blowing stuff up vs. any BS storyline garbage, basically.
    Aug 7, 2015 6:30 PM - jbigler1986: I like fps games
Aug 7, 2015 6:35 PM - Blake Benefield: Onshape... Ill look into it in a few
    Aug 7, 2015 6:55 PM - BryZad: Hey all
Aug 7, 2015 7:05 PM - BryZad: Does anyone live in Maine ?
Aug 7, 2015 7:07 PM - daniel871: Hawken is an FPS, except you pilot a lurching multi-ton mech instead of the usual
Aug 7, 2015 7:08 PM - daniel871: Seeing a lot of posts about the robo glass beds cracking on FB.
Aug 7, 2015 8:00 PM - jbigler1986: Amazon same day shipping is awesome
Aug 7, 2015 8:00 PM - jbigler1986: My glass bed is probably broke. My replacement probably is too
Aug 7, 2015 8:02 PM - TechSupportGo: if you like puzzle games like portal then you will love this! http://www.engadget.com/2015/07/30/jxe-streams-the-talos-principle-dlc/

Aug 8, 2015 4:57 AM - Bill Monroe: good morning
    Aug 8, 2015 5:05 AM - Mike Glass: Bill!
    Aug 8, 2015 5:05 AM - Bill Monroe: Mike!
Aug 8, 2015 5:06 AM - Mike Glass: What are we working on today
Aug 8, 2015 5:07 AM - Bill Monroe: at the moment I'm designing a linear actuator using a NEMA 11 stepper, and a strain beam
Aug 8, 2015 5:08 AM - Bill Monroe: and you?
    Aug 8, 2015 5:09 AM - jbigler1986: Happy saturday
    Aug 8, 2015 5:10 AM - Bill Monroe: Justin!
    Aug 8, 2015 5:10 AM - jbigler1986: Bill
    Aug 8, 2015 5:10 AM - jbigler1986: How is everyone doing
Aug 8, 2015 5:11 AM - Bill Monroe: pretty OK
    Aug 8, 2015 5:11 AM - Bill Monroe: you?
Aug 8, 2015 5:11 AM - jbigler1986: First kid free weekend in a long time. Kinda sucks and is kind of good at the same time. Gotta get use to not having them for a week at a time
Aug 8, 2015 5:12 AM - Bill Monroe: eventually, they'll decide where they want to be and that schedule will change
    Aug 8, 2015 5:12 AM - jbigler1986: Yep
Aug 8, 2015 5:12 AM - jbigler1986: To young to decide right now though
Aug 8, 2015 5:13 AM - jbigler1986: About to go buy some tools. Nobody to tell me that i can't :D
Aug 8, 2015 5:14 AM - jbigler1986: MG. Why are you up so early on saturday?
Aug 8, 2015 5:16 AM - Bill Monroe: a couple of weeks after my ex left she wanted to pick up stuff she forgot to take with her.. I gave her the address of my recently aquired "storage unit"
Aug 8, 2015 5:17 AM - Bill Monroe: it was a hanger, with my new plane in it :)
Aug 8, 2015 5:19 AM - jbigler1986: Lol. Yeah still have yet to get anything. Courts reshcheduled the date that was yesterday. Sluts
Aug 8, 2015 5:20 AM - Mike Glass: hey JB, had to set up another chair piece to print, will be non top till its done now, on vaca for 13 days.
    Aug 8, 2015 5:20 AM - jbigler1986: Didnt you just have 5 days vaca?
Aug 8, 2015 5:21 AM - Mike Glass: well only 3 work days though.
Aug 8, 2015 5:21 AM - Mike Glass: thats because my sis was in town
    Aug 8, 2015 5:35 AM - jbigler1986: Gotcha
Aug 8, 2015 5:36 AM - Mike Glass: what kind of tools you looking to buy
Aug 8, 2015 6:05 AM - jbigler1986: Drill press, band saw, circular saw
Aug 8, 2015 6:17 AM - jbigler1986: Probably some other stuff too. Who knows
    Aug 8, 2015 6:17 AM - Bill Monroe: grinder/buffer
Aug 8, 2015 6:17 AM - Bill Monroe: disc sander
Aug 8, 2015 6:18 AM - Bill Monroe: CNC router
Aug 8, 2015 6:19 AM - Bill Monroe: TIG Welder
    Aug 8, 2015 6:19 AM - jbigler1986: Welder is a good idea. Cnc i wish
    Aug 8, 2015 6:27 AM - bamhm182: http://bambuser.com/v/5710958
    Aug 8, 2015 6:27 AM - bamhm182: Got a stream set up and working
Aug 8, 2015 6:28 AM - bamhm182: Need to reprint my camera mount so I can slide it back further though
Aug 8, 2015 6:28 AM - Mike Glass: lol, yea little close there.
Aug 8, 2015 6:29 AM - bamhm182: Got it modeled, but I have to wait for this to finish before I can print it
    Aug 8, 2015 6:30 AM - bamhm182: 33% done at 4 hours or so
Aug 8, 2015 6:31 AM - bamhm182: By the way, anyone else every notice that the percentage is based on the current line of the code? It seems like it would be a better idea to take the extruder value from G1 and take it from that
Aug 8, 2015 6:32 AM - Bill Monroe: problem is, the total amount of extruder length must be calulated first
Aug 8, 2015 6:32 AM - Bill Monroe: Marlin doens so that
    Aug 8, 2015 6:32 AM - Bill Monroe: doesnt
Aug 8, 2015 6:38 AM - bamhm182: Seems like it would just say "Take the last G1, and take the E from that, use as total"
    Aug 8, 2015 6:39 AM - bamhm182: Wait, nevermind, I'm being stupid
Aug 8, 2015 6:39 AM - bamhm182: Had it in my head that G1 was going off of absolute positions, not relative
Aug 8, 2015 6:41 AM - Bill Monroe: i added a chuck a code that went throught th G code file and did the math, then used that number.. the overhead wasnt worth it
    Aug 8, 2015 6:41 AM - bamhm182: Gotcha
    Aug 8, 2015 6:42 AM - bamhm182: Guess it makes sense then
Aug 8, 2015 6:43 AM - bamhm182: Makes it easy for embedding nuts on the plus side. I just use Simplify 3D to find the line number that I want to pause the print at, go there, add G1 X5; M25; G1 X<PreviousValue>, then I can divide the total number of lines by the line number I put that code in and I know when I need to check on it
Aug 8, 2015 6:46 AM - bamhm182: Think I'm about ready to print off the first iteration of my Raspberry Pi gaming System
Aug 8, 2015 6:47 AM - bamhm182: After I get caught up on all the rest of the stuff I need to print out. :/
Aug 8, 2015 6:48 AM - Bill Monroe: use one process to print up to the layer you want to stop, add a pause to the ending script, insert hardware, remaining process begins with a resume
Aug 8, 2015 6:48 AM - Bill Monroe: but, whatever works for you
    Aug 8, 2015 6:50 AM - bamhm182: Guess that works too
Aug 8, 2015 6:51 AM - bamhm182: I like my method because it moves the carriage out of the way. I've had it stop with the fan over the hole I need to access or other annoying places
Aug 8, 2015 7:22 AM - jbigler1986: Pausing and resuming always gets messed up for me
    Aug 8, 2015 7:22 AM - donhuevo: morning
    Aug 8, 2015 7:23 AM - jbigler1986: Welcome
    Aug 8, 2015 7:23 AM - bamhm182: Gotta be quick
Aug 8, 2015 7:23 AM - bamhm182: And be careful not to bump anything
    Aug 8, 2015 7:23 AM - Mike Glass: Don
    Aug 8, 2015 7:24 AM - donhuevo: mg
Aug 8, 2015 7:24 AM - Mike Glass: question for ya
    Aug 8, 2015 7:24 AM - donhuevo: yep
Aug 8, 2015 7:24 AM - Mike Glass: do you think these will work for the trinket http://www.banggood.com/100Pcs-DC-5...MD-LED-Board-Built-in-IC-WS2812-p-979463.html
Aug 8, 2015 7:26 AM - donhuevo: most likely they'll behave the same as a neopixel
Aug 8, 2015 7:26 AM - Mike Glass: couldnt find the specs on the neopixels if they use that same 2812 chipset or not
    Aug 8, 2015 7:27 AM - donhuevo: they do use the ws2812 http://www.adafruit.com/products/1426
Aug 8, 2015 7:27 AM - Mike Glass: rockon then, gonna order 50 for $10 then
Aug 8, 2015 7:28 AM - donhuevo: have you read up on them and how they work at all yet?
Aug 8, 2015 7:29 AM - Mike Glass: not sure how it addresses , but must just be the first one in and last one out is the determining factor
Aug 8, 2015 7:30 AM - Mike Glass: basically a digital signal the addresses each one correct?
Aug 8, 2015 7:33 AM - donhuevo: this might be a good place to start... https://learn.adafruit.com/3d-printed-led-fire-horns
Aug 8, 2015 7:33 AM - donhuevo: and if you build it, maybe you can redefine casual Fridays at work
Aug 8, 2015 7:36 AM - Mike Glass: Yea I looked at that one before, wish I had some ninjaflex
Aug 8, 2015 7:37 AM - bamhm182: If I were to try and bring a Trinket into work, I'd be tackled
    Aug 8, 2015 7:37 AM - donhuevo: really?
Aug 8, 2015 7:38 AM - bamhm182: Well, maybe not tackled, but it'd go seriously bad for me
    Aug 8, 2015 7:38 AM - bamhm182: Work in a secured building
Aug 8, 2015 7:39 AM - Mike Glass: we have locks on our doors also
Aug 8, 2015 7:41 AM - donhuevo: so they'd make you leave your fire horns at the door?
Aug 8, 2015 7:43 AM - bamhm182: More of a problem with it having a USB port and that it's rewritable
Aug 8, 2015 8:01 AM - donhuevo: I'm thinking that, once programmed, you could remove the usb port
Aug 8, 2015 8:03 AM - JeffTheMess: morning folks quick question, if there is clicking noise by the hoobed bolt, that means the filament isn't aligned with the hobbed bolt, right?
Aug 8, 2015 8:04 AM - donhuevo: it may be stripping the filament, aligned or not
Aug 8, 2015 8:04 AM - bamhm182: I was thinking along the same line as don
Aug 8, 2015 8:05 AM - JeffTheMess: whats the fix for it?
Aug 8, 2015 8:06 AM - donhuevo: if it's stripping the filament, the most probable cause is a jam in the nozzle or heat break
Aug 8, 2015 8:06 AM - donhuevo: is it still extruding plastic?
Aug 8, 2015 8:07 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah, I just clean out the hex, no it just starts to strip the pla right away, just releasing bits of pla along the way
Aug 8, 2015 8:08 AM - donhuevo: the filament is able to come freely off the spool?
Aug 8, 2015 8:09 AM - JeffTheMess: when heated yeah, very smooth, no hard time pulling it out (thats what she said, sorry)
Aug 8, 2015 8:09 AM - Mike Glass: did you scrap the crap off the hob bolt, I take a razor blade on mine.
Aug 8, 2015 8:09 AM - donhuevo: don't need to apologize for pointing out things she said
    Aug 8, 2015 8:09 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah i cleaned it out
    Aug 8, 2015 8:09 AM - JeffTheMess: i use an oiler too
Aug 8, 2015 8:10 AM - donhuevo: yep, very important to brush the hob's teeth after EVERY filament meal
Aug 8, 2015 8:10 AM - Mike Glass: can you put the filament in and extrude?

    Aug 8, 2015 8:10 AM - Mike Glass: push i mean
    Aug 8, 2015 8:10 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah
Aug 8, 2015 8:10 AM - donhuevo: no chance you bent/kinked the heat break during maintenance?
    Aug 8, 2015 8:11 AM - JeffTheMess: at 2AM anything is possible
Aug 8, 2015 8:11 AM - donhuevo: if that neck is out of round even a little, odds are it's scrap
Aug 8, 2015 8:11 AM - Mike Glass: heat it up to 240 let it sit for 5 minutes then try again.
Aug 8, 2015 8:11 AM - donhuevo: yes, try and give it the runs
Aug 8, 2015 8:12 AM - Mike Glass: might be a small dry chunk givin it hell
Aug 8, 2015 8:12 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah might try that
Aug 8, 2015 8:12 AM - donhuevo: yes, having one caught sideways is not pleasant
Aug 8, 2015 8:13 AM - JeffTheMess: well thanks folks, i'll be coming on a little later to tackle it again
    Aug 8, 2015 8:13 AM - donhuevo: good luck
    Aug 8, 2015 8:14 AM - JeffTheMess: http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?threads/shoutbox-archive.4737/page-8#post-43755
Aug 8, 2015 8:14 AM - JeffTheMess: jeez they archive our convos
Aug 8, 2015 8:14 AM - donhuevo: a little creepy but mostly helpful
Aug 8, 2015 8:15 AM - JeffTheMess: if the hex is done, and I'll get the e3d is it a quick change (remove screws change leads screw back in)?
    Aug 8, 2015 8:16 AM - bamhm182: Huh, how about that
Aug 8, 2015 8:16 AM - donhuevo: new heating element, new thermistor so some wiring involved and possibly a firmware change for the thermistor too
    Aug 8, 2015 8:17 AM - JeffTheMess: great
Aug 8, 2015 8:17 AM - donhuevo: not horrible though jeff
Aug 8, 2015 8:18 AM - donhuevo: have you gotten your feet wet with the firmware and arduino yet?
Aug 8, 2015 8:18 AM - JeffTheMess: hardware wise i can handle, im no software guy at all lol
    Aug 8, 2015 8:18 AM - JeffTheMess: nope
Aug 8, 2015 8:19 AM - donhuevo: it really isn't a big deal. d/l and install the arduino environment, get a copy of the firmware you can edit, make your changes and upload to your board
Aug 8, 2015 8:19 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah, minor stuff like that I can do
Aug 8, 2015 8:19 AM - JeffTheMess: well no time like the present to learn
Aug 8, 2015 8:19 AM - donhuevo: everyone here on a daily basis has done it and can help if needed
Aug 8, 2015 8:20 AM - JeffTheMess: well catch you guys later
    Aug 8, 2015 8:20 AM - donhuevo: yep
Aug 8, 2015 8:24 AM - donhuevo: someone please let me know when daniel shows up so I can unhide him
    Aug 8, 2015 8:30 AM - jbigler1986: What?
    Aug 8, 2015 8:31 AM - jbigler1986: Why did you hide him
Aug 8, 2015 8:31 AM - donhuevo: when he puts an animated gif up, I switch him to ignore to make them go away.
Aug 8, 2015 8:33 AM - donhuevo: GIfnF's mess with my already fragile calm
    Aug 8, 2015 8:39 AM - jbigler1986: Lol
    Aug 8, 2015 8:39 AM - jbigler1986: How are your projects going
Aug 8, 2015 8:41 AM - donhuevo: I printed one of those base brackets with the integrated bushing holders last night and found out that the bushing holders have to be printed on edge and not flat
Aug 8, 2015 8:42 AM - donhuevo: so redrew some stuff so I can print the bushing holders separately and printing again now
Aug 8, 2015 9:07 AM - bamhm182: I don't know how I want to do this triggers on this PiBoy deal
Aug 8, 2015 9:08 AM - donhuevo: what are your options?
Aug 8, 2015 9:08 AM - bamhm182: I may just take the lazy/easy way out for the first version and do something like this http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:823648
Aug 8, 2015 9:09 AM - bamhm182: But I would like to have some triggers that come out of the body
    Aug 8, 2015 9:09 AM - donhuevo: maybe save them for v2
    Aug 8, 2015 9:11 AM - bamhm182: [IMG]
Aug 8, 2015 9:11 AM - bamhm182: Thinking something like that, but that I took more than two seconds on so they don't look like shit
Aug 8, 2015 9:13 AM - bamhm182: That's what I'm thinking. Trying to get SOMETHING printed before I leave on Tuesday, so there are going to be a handful of things that don't make it into this first version anyways
Aug 8, 2015 9:14 AM - bamhm182: An integrated battery for one. I screwed up and bought a circuit that can't recharge my lipo, and I didn't realize it until today, so I won't be getting one that will be able to until after I'm gone
    Aug 8, 2015 9:14 AM - donhuevo: bamnit
    Aug 8, 2015 9:15 AM - bamhm182: Yeah, haha
Aug 8, 2015 9:16 AM - bamhm182: Going to just have a USB cable hanging out the back that I can plug into my external battery pack for my phone.
Aug 8, 2015 9:21 AM - donhuevo: it'll look more 'hacked' and thus cooler
    Aug 8, 2015 9:35 AM - jbigler1986: Yep
Aug 8, 2015 9:47 AM - Mike Kelly: Howdy everyone
    Aug 8, 2015 9:48 AM - donhuevo: morning mk
Aug 8, 2015 10:07 AM - donhuevo: you aren't still mad about the whole butt swizzle thing are you?
    Aug 8, 2015 10:10 AM - jbigler1986: Lol. He is a little
Aug 8, 2015 10:11 AM - donhuevo: yeah, I'm starting to think so
Aug 8, 2015 10:11 AM - jbigler1986: He said they only rhing that will make him forget is when he gets his tiko
    Aug 8, 2015 10:11 AM - jbigler1986: The only thing*
    Aug 8, 2015 10:12 AM - donhuevo: haha

Aug 8, 2015 10:14 AM - Mike Kelly: butt swizzle?
    Aug 8, 2015 10:14 AM - donhuevo: heat creep?
Aug 8, 2015 10:14 AM - Mike Kelly: ohh lol
Aug 8, 2015 10:15 AM - Mike Kelly: just found a dead pigeon in the yard
Aug 8, 2015 10:15 AM - Mike Kelly: missing its head
Aug 8, 2015 10:15 AM - Mike Kelly: really hope it wasn't from the dog
Aug 8, 2015 10:15 AM - donhuevo: sounds like the apocalypse just kicked off
Aug 8, 2015 10:15 AM - jbigler1986: Oh yeah. Sorry about that MK. I was hungry
Aug 8, 2015 10:15 AM - Mike Glass: was all the blood sucked out of it MK?
Aug 8, 2015 10:16 AM - donhuevo: we had a dead wren this morning
    Aug 8, 2015 10:16 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah
Aug 8, 2015 10:16 AM - Mike Kelly: had flys and everything already
    Aug 8, 2015 10:16 AM - jbigler1986: Zombies. Always zombies
Aug 8, 2015 10:18 AM - Mike Glass: have you seen that disease they get and there head goes all crooked, its effin wierd, we found 2 this week in our lightwell at work. so sad.
Aug 8, 2015 10:18 AM - donhuevo: I was happy to see z nation was coming back for another season
Aug 8, 2015 10:19 AM - bamhm182: Got this PiBoy all ready to print
    Aug 8, 2015 10:20 AM - bamhm182: [IMG]
    Aug 8, 2015 10:21 AM - bamhm182: [IMG]
Aug 8, 2015 10:21 AM - bamhm182: Triggers are just going to be like that for now
    Aug 8, 2015 10:22 AM - bamhm182: I like your carriage, don
Aug 8, 2015 10:22 AM - donhuevo: awe gee thanks, bam. are you talking about what I'm streaming?
Aug 8, 2015 10:23 AM - jbigler1986: Bam i would print those small parts one at a time
Aug 8, 2015 10:24 AM - bamhm182: So they don't come apart from the bed and mess up the others?
Aug 8, 2015 10:25 AM - bamhm182: I'll probably do the main button plate by itself, then the trigger plates with the D-Pad and the buttons/ triggers together
Aug 8, 2015 10:26 AM - bamhm182: I need to make the "backbone" of my camera rig so it's adjustable too, I think. Either that or just make it longer. It's too short

    Aug 8, 2015 10:27 AM - bamhm182: I've seen that before, haha
Aug 8, 2015 10:27 AM - bamhm182: The dog lets out the most pitiful noise
Aug 8, 2015 10:27 AM - Mike Kelly: i love it's eye in the last picture
Aug 8, 2015 10:27 AM - Mike Kelly: "OH SHIT"
    Aug 8, 2015 10:27 AM - bamhm182: Source:
Aug 8, 2015 10:28 AM - bamhm182: Hahaha, yeah. That whole video is pretty cringy
Aug 8, 2015 10:32 AM - Mike Kelly: that guy is awful lol
Aug 8, 2015 11:16 AM - Mike Kelly: just found a stanley number 4 plane
    Aug 8, 2015 11:16 AM - Mike Kelly: at a garage sale
Aug 8, 2015 11:17 AM - toy: i got my linear actuator mounted and working finally
    Aug 8, 2015 11:20 AM - toy: max speed for the y-axis is 190mm/sec
Aug 8, 2015 11:21 AM - Mike Glass: thats it
Aug 8, 2015 11:21 AM - toy: yup anything above that and it loses / stops makes weird noises

Aug 8, 2015 11:21 AM - Mike Glass: or is that with 25lbs on it
    Aug 8, 2015 11:21 AM - toy: with 25lbs on it
    Aug 8, 2015 11:21 AM - Mike Glass: sweet
Aug 8, 2015 11:22 AM - toy: i made a short video of it moving at 185mm not sure how i can upload it
Aug 8, 2015 11:23 AM - donhuevo: and if you were to put Channing Tatum onto your extremely flat surface, what do you suppose your results would be?
Aug 8, 2015 11:23 AM - donhuevo: straight? not straight?
    Aug 8, 2015 11:24 AM - toy: hmm
Aug 8, 2015 11:25 AM - toy: i think 20mm lead with drv8825 is the way to go
Aug 8, 2015 11:26 AM - bamhm182: I like my DRV8825s, only problem I have with them is that the pots are SUPER touchy
Aug 8, 2015 11:26 AM - toy: channing tatum is not straight in relationship to the granite surface? im not sure if i answered that correctly
    Aug 8, 2015 11:27 AM - toy: i wish the smoothieboard had the 8825's
Aug 8, 2015 11:30 AM - bamhm182: I don't see any pots on the smoothieboard. Is it softare based?
    Aug 8, 2015 11:30 AM - bamhm182: *software
Aug 8, 2015 11:31 AM - bamhm182: "Digital control of the current setting for each driver instead of trimpot manual control." I like that
    Aug 8, 2015 11:31 AM - toy: yup
Aug 8, 2015 11:31 AM - bamhm182: And honestly, I can't tell the difference between something that is printed in 1/16 and 1/32
Aug 8, 2015 11:32 AM - toy: it should be smoother and less noise / vibration
Aug 8, 2015 11:33 AM - bamhm182: I haven't seen that to be true, although to be fair, mine are still poorly calibrated. :/
Aug 8, 2015 11:35 AM - bamhm182: Mine's been making some terrible noise, but I need to get a few things printed and it seems to be working despite that random noise
Aug 8, 2015 11:36 AM - bamhm182: Anyways, got to get to work, later
Aug 8, 2015 11:40 AM - Mike Glass: you can add the dirvers to the smoothie
Aug 8, 2015 11:44 AM - JeffTheMess: okay time to tacke this problem
Aug 8, 2015 11:47 AM - toy: seems dumb to have to add 8825 to the smoothie...i can see running external drivers for larger nema 23's
Aug 8, 2015 12:05 PM - JeffTheMess: had a question...what would happen if I covered the idler bearing for the hobbed bolt with a rubber coating? will it get a better grip?
Aug 8, 2015 12:07 PM - Mike Glass: it would wear very quickly
Aug 8, 2015 12:07 PM - donhuevo: and no, it would have zero impact on grip strength
    Aug 8, 2015 12:08 PM - JeffTheMess: cool
Aug 8, 2015 12:11 PM - Mike Glass: the sharpness of the hob is the factor and the pressure from the bearing
Aug 8, 2015 12:13 PM - JeffTheMess: yeah, so even cleaning it over time can wear it out, right
Aug 8, 2015 12:14 PM - donhuevo: only if you're cleaning it with an angle grinder
Aug 8, 2015 12:16 PM - JeffTheMess: so i did what you guys suggested, i heated it up to 230 push it through by hand came out smooth
    Aug 8, 2015 12:16 PM - JeffTheMess: im running a print now, instead of 60mm/s now 50mm/s
Aug 8, 2015 12:17 PM - Mike Glass: how tight do you have the hob screws?
Aug 8, 2015 12:17 PM - JeffTheMess: right now it about 1mm passed the nut
Aug 8, 2015 12:18 PM - Mike Glass: might want to tighten it
Aug 8, 2015 12:19 PM - Mike Glass: I screw mine all the way in then back off a few turns
Aug 8, 2015 12:22 PM - donhuevo: do you have the hex off the carriage?
Aug 8, 2015 12:23 PM - JeffTheMess: i just put it back to try and run the print again.
Aug 8, 2015 12:23 PM - JeffTheMess: what would you suggest?
Aug 8, 2015 12:24 PM - donhuevo: while it was out, did you try passing some filament thru the heat break to make sure everything was smooth?
Aug 8, 2015 12:24 PM - JeffTheMess: (if this fail, but for future reference )
Aug 8, 2015 12:25 PM - JeffTheMess: no but i did that while it was in the carriage
    Aug 8, 2015 12:25 PM - JeffTheMess: is there a difference?
Aug 8, 2015 12:25 PM - donhuevo: no difference, if it wasn't hanging up inside the heatbreak then you're good there
Aug 8, 2015 12:26 PM - Mike Kelly: it's a good feeling to have 3 printers churning out parts
Aug 8, 2015 12:27 PM - donhuevo: not anything she would have ever said. ever.
Aug 8, 2015 12:28 PM - Mike Glass: MK, maybe you should go for the dewalt tool for your cnc
    Aug 8, 2015 12:28 PM - JeffTheMess: trade in all three get a um2 extended :)
Aug 8, 2015 12:28 PM - Mike Kelly: instead of the flex one?
    Aug 8, 2015 12:29 PM - Mike Kelly: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:952564 this is neat
Aug 8, 2015 12:30 PM - Mike Glass: yea with the new z it should give more power, I havent looked at the specs on that particular one, I am making a mount for my Bosch colt and gonna give that a try.
    Aug 8, 2015 12:31 PM - Mike Glass: Dewalt DW660
    Aug 8, 2015 12:32 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah i think i'll do that
    Aug 8, 2015 12:32 PM - Mike Glass: just relized I have one those..lol
    Aug 8, 2015 12:32 PM - jbigler1986: I need a draft beer.
Aug 8, 2015 12:32 PM - Mike Glass: but its the rechargeable one.
    Aug 8, 2015 12:33 PM - Mike Glass: shit
    Aug 8, 2015 12:33 PM - Mike Kelly: damn
    Aug 8, 2015 12:33 PM - jbigler1986: Fuck
    Aug 8, 2015 12:33 PM - donhuevo: butt swizzles
Aug 8, 2015 12:33 PM - Mike Kelly: horse piss
    Aug 8, 2015 12:34 PM - Mike Kelly:
Aug 8, 2015 12:35 PM - Mike Glass: I have another one too, a rotozip that would work..haha
    Aug 8, 2015 12:35 PM - jbigler1986: Gtfo
Aug 8, 2015 12:37 PM - JeffTheMess: damn it failed again!
Aug 8, 2015 12:39 PM - donhuevo: what about temps, type of plastic and speeds?
    Aug 8, 2015 12:40 PM - JeffTheMess: i bumped temp from 210 to 220, PLA(hatchbox) 50mm/s
Aug 8, 2015 12:40 PM - Bill Monroe: what color?
Aug 8, 2015 12:40 PM - Mike Kelly: have you inspected your hobbed bolt for damage/bent teeth/wear?
    Aug 8, 2015 12:40 PM - jbigler1986: What is failing
Aug 8, 2015 12:41 PM - JeffTheMess: pla keep getting grinded by the hobbed bolt
Aug 8, 2015 12:42 PM - JeffTheMess: yeah it looks like, i thought that was the first problem
Aug 8, 2015 12:43 PM - donhuevo: I say let it cool then pull just the nozzle and turn the big gear by hand until you get about 50mm or so of filament to come out and inspect that
Aug 8, 2015 12:44 PM - JeffTheMess: good idea don
Aug 8, 2015 12:52 PM - JeffTheMess: all I see is the normally cuts from the hobbed bolt
Aug 8, 2015 12:52 PM - donhuevo: alrighty how about some closeup pics of your nozzle
    Aug 8, 2015 12:53 PM - donhuevo: wait...
Aug 8, 2015 12:53 PM - donhuevo: that may not have come out right
Aug 8, 2015 12:54 PM - JeffTheMess: (where dan with the giddy gif)
Aug 8, 2015 12:56 PM - Mike Glass: Oh my

Aug 8, 2015 1:00 PM - donhuevo: can I see the tip of the nozzle?
Aug 8, 2015 1:03 PM - Mike Kelly: these chess pieces need some extra weight on the bottom i think...
    Aug 8, 2015 1:04 PM - JeffTheMess: [IMG]
Aug 8, 2015 1:05 PM - JeffTheMess: i know it looks clogged but it wasn't before
Aug 8, 2015 1:07 PM - donhuevo: too much plastic to see what's going on with the metal.
Aug 8, 2015 1:07 PM - donhuevo: have any laquer thinner?
    Aug 8, 2015 1:07 PM - JeffTheMess: nope
    Aug 8, 2015 1:08 PM - donhuevo: spare nozzle?
Aug 8, 2015 1:10 PM - JeffTheMess: never needed one
    Aug 8, 2015 1:10 PM - JeffTheMess: (until now)
Aug 8, 2015 1:11 PM - donhuevo: I probably have 1/2 dozen .4 e3d nozzles laying around. when one starts misbehaving, I'll take it out of rotation and give it a good cleaning.
    Aug 8, 2015 1:12 PM - donhuevo: http://www.makerfarm.com/index.php/...s/4mm-hexagon-nozzle-for-1-75mm-filament.html
    Aug 8, 2015 1:12 PM - jbigler1986: That needs some cleaning
Aug 8, 2015 1:12 PM - Mike Kelly: brass bristle brush to the rescue
    Aug 8, 2015 1:14 PM - JeffTheMess: sounds good...
Aug 8, 2015 1:14 PM - JeffTheMess: how is it taken out just manually unscrew it?
