We needed to have Robo's LED's do a little more for us so we added a 2n2222 transistor, and a 1k ohm resistor to the existing Robo LED's, added some modifications to the marlin firmware and came up with this. Cost is minimal, $.08ish.

-lights pulse slowly when in standby
    -pulse faster when heating
-solid when extruder is close to set temp (from slice, or manual control)
-back to slow pulse when print is done

Any suggestions? I think they could be a little better. If we get this dialed in next step is smart extruder lights.

I'll send you the parts if you would like to test them out. So far I haven't had an issue at all but only one tester doesn't prove much.

Sure I'd be willing to give it a go so long as they don't use the servo aux port on the ramps.

Yup, servo port...I'm sure I can use one of the other open pins. When I have some free time I'll take a look and put you together a little test board.
