    Hi Guys. From forums that i am reading it looks like 3D printers should have 5 step motors. I am confused why i only see 2 step motors for my ROBO 3D ? does the rest of 3 motors are somewhere under the machine ? if not then how this machine is working with only 2 step motors ?

    Thanks
    Arbi

    It has five.
    X -> 1
    Y -> 1
    Z -> 2
    Extruder -> 1

    Yes, there are 3 under the machine.

    Can smaller step motors also work for 3D printing ? so it dosn't take so much space ? If so is there any brand or model available that would work ?

    Nema 17 are chosen because of the good balance between supplied torque, size, and cost. I would advise against going down in size
