So, I have been having quite a bit of trouble with this temp fall error (as displayed on my lcd display).

I checked my thermistor and it was a bit beat up, wiring wise, so I wired a new one... with a new conector.
    still failed.

It keeps happening at the same height in the print. Which could be coincidence.

I have to get a new multimeter to test continuity of the wire loom back down below... but is there anything else this "temp fall error" could be related to? Whenever I come back to it, the print has stopped and the model is frozen to the head and of course, it does that "i'm bored" homing maneuver some time during the night and pulls the print off.

I thought I had it licked... just fishing for any other ideas before I tear apart the same thing again.

It is more likely the wire loom from the hotend back to the ramps.
Mine had not one, but two joints between the thermistor itself and the RAMPS board. That is* two opportunities for failure.

*was, I wired it straight back.. now one joint at the thermistor itself

I was thinking the loom at the hotend moves a lot. Break the wires? Like the back door electrics on a mercedes ...

I'll hit up .. whatever.. the place you get continuity testers and follow wire

Harbor Freight here in the US has meters for less than 5 bucks.

    :)

There are at least 6 (that I know of) around MickeyMouseTown where I live.
While the nearest one is 25 miles away, the nearest store of any kind is 12 so....

yea.. they're more prolific in some areas... I've never lived in an area that had one in or near my city. Even lived in some states without them.

Changed my hotend.. the old heater fell right out of the head. Could a loose head and vibration make it fail?

    Testing on new head now.

The J-head and E3D both that that heater core well mounted (it can't easily move unless you undo screws). Not sure how the Hex did it.

no.. the jhead.. i must have forgotten to tighten it or had something jamming it. The hexhead is fine. . same mounting type and all just the jhead wasn't tight.

The temp fall error went away with a new heater. Maybe it was shorting or something.

sorry for noob question, but I am having the same problem with the "Temp Fall Error". The "heater" you replaced, are you talking about a thermistor in the hotend or the hotend itself, or am I missing it completely.

Robo 3D R1 PLA+ABS 5/16 rods auto level bed, not sure what hot end I have but it looks like this, not my pic but it is the same one I have

From what I can see you got a lot of air blowing on your hot end, with the heatsink fan blowing back towards the other fan the air has nowhere to go but down towards your heater block. Your parts fan also appears to be blowing on your heater block too.

If I were still running my hex I would use this http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:821080

Noted on the fan situation ( I can probably print that on my working seemecnc rostock max), but since I have printed many many things like the setup is now on my Robo3D, I was thinking this may be not quite as simple.

I had the same issue is why I stated the fan, with me it turned out that the fan mount got tweeked just slightly causing the fan to blow on the heater block and cool it enough to cause the TEMP FALL ERROR

10mm should work fine, personally I'm working on putting dual 40x40x20mm fans on mine

I suspect the current 25w heaters just don't want a fan on them.
I can't reproduce this with mine, but the volcano has a 40w heater core.
