Well one feature that I don't like is the solid sides on the printer. Wouldn't it be nice to have transparent, easily renovable sides so you could see what is going on. Say remove 2 screws and take off the side panel. I am looking into just removing the 'insert' portion of the sides and replacing them with 1/4" plexiglas or maybe lexon.
You could get at those Z & X fittings with no trouble. It would take 2 -15" square panels that could be cut out.
    What do you think? Frank

Mark, If you don't run with the cover on, what do you do to stabilize the Z axis rods? Did you fabricate a top plate of some sort?

No, I have never had that be an issue.
I have done prints up to 8 inches tall with no issues (a shade over that really for the tallest one).
The smooth rods remain steady and that is all that matters.

Now, in the interest of full disclosure, I seldom do prints that tall, but the ones that were worked
I have stepped the speed down on tall skinny prints (tall and wide prints I did not bother).

The original beta did not even have the rods stabilized in any way (which is what I have).
I know some people have had issues with that, but I never did. I think if you were to replace the smooth rod bases with bigger ones that would be enough to secure it. I am doing that as part of the threaded rod upgrade kit.
