Could someone post a picture of the first piece of extruded filament, like the first loop of a skirt? Maybe put an unextruded piece next to it for reference purpose. I'm wondering if my filament is coming out at the right size. It seems so thin that it might make sense why it's not sticking, with so little area to stick.

The first layer should be pretty flattened. Not ball like. If you're doing 2 skirts they should adhere together. If they're not adhering together you're too high.

I've seen this picture many times but I can't tell the thickness of a single strand. I'd like to see just one strand by itself to properly gauge the thickness. Saturday is the San Diego Mini Maker Faire and Robo will be there. I will bring examples and see them running a printer first hand. Seeing it in person should shed some light.

That thickness should be close to what you set in Slic3r.
