    Hello everyone,

I bought this Robo3d R1 printer. It appears to be the R1, since it is not the beta, and not the R1+..

I connected to my pc, the software lets me move the x and the y, however the z does not move. When I try to home, it does not move the z, instead I get a humming noise..

It has z stops on both sides, which should mean its got "auto level" calibration. However it does not move the z neither up nor down..

Im pretty frustrated. Not sure what can be causing this..

Bad stepper driver probably. Small card that sits on the RAMPS board which is itself on top of the Arduino Mega (under the bottom). That or mechanical binding. I assume with the power off you can spin the threaded rods easily?

Yes, they move. Where can I buy a replacement? Is it a matter of just swapping out?

Yes, generally it is just a matter of swapping them out.
Sometimes they can require calibration, but 90% of the time new ones come ready to use.
Buy them where ever you find RepRap printer parts. Here is an example:

Make sure when you swap it in that :
    1) The heat sink is installed (sometimes they come without them installed, but they will be included in the kit)
    2) It is installed the same direction as the one you remove.

If that does not fix it then the stepper motor itself is the next thing to look at and since both of your Z motors are not responding (and the R1 has a single stepper driver for the Z) I would suggest it is the stepper driver.... not the motors.

Yes. Look under the printer (or carefully around the bottom edge) there is a slot for the SD card reader

    An actual SD card itself?

    I do not know.

New machines did when I got mine years ago, not sure about now but I'd assume so.
